I’ve decided that I’m incapable of watching The Clone Wars in strict order and just need to break free and skip around to whichever episode or arc I’m in the mood for.
I watched Bounty Hunters because the zabrak character in that episode, Sugi, is Jas Emari’s aunt, and there were some passages in the Aftermath books where Jas thought back about her aunt. It was a cool connection.
I watched the Zillo Beast. The episodes where Anakin and Mace are on missions together always get to me because in TCW they seem to get along for the most part and it makes Anakin’s betrayal sting even more. Whenever I see them working together during the Clone Wars I just wish they could have worked together to bring down Palpatine. I know, it wasn’t meant to be, Anakin was predestined to fall and become Vader and all that. But still. Man. “Maybe the next time I watch RotS it’ll be different and Anakin will side with Mace,” says the tiny goblin in my brain.
I rewatched the Mortis arc for the first time in a long while and I enjoyed it a lot... more than I thought I would. I guess when I’m not caught up in reading a long critique of it on tumblr I just find it pretty and trippy and fun. I mean it still suffers from both Ahsoka and Anakin going temporarily dark side for The Aesthetic and coming right back, thus cheapening the idea of it being very hard to return from the dark side, but maybe I’m just in a mood where I don’t care so much.
I did think about that scene in RotS where Palpatine talks to Anakin in the Opera about the Dark Side having the power to cheat death and thought, that’s the part where Anakin should be like “Right have I ever told you about that time I brought Ahsoka back from the dead? Ahsoka, my padawan, remember her? Short, snippy little togruta? anyway there was this embodiment of the light side and I touched her forehead and touched Ahsoka’s forehead and all this magical energy happened and them BAM Ahsoka was alive again. It was amazing. I’m amazing. I literally saved someone I loved from dying. Now let’s watch this opera in silence because I rarely get to just sit back an enjoy entertainment and Padme’s box seats are not nearly this nice.” Palpatine: “...huh?”
Ah well here I am picking it apart again.
Anyway, I also watched two episodes that I had never previously seen. I had just skipped over Mercy Mission and Nomad Droids before because I wasn’t interested in a couple filler episodes just focusing on droid hijinks. But I watched them. Huzzah. They were exactly what you would expect from a couple of episode’s focused on Threepio and Artoo having adventures by themselves. I did think it was interesting how Threepio said they both belonged to Sentor Amidala... funny that he just doesn’t bother to mention Anakin, even though Artoo is with Anakin 99% of the time and Anakin literally built Threepio. Yet another reason it was obvious to absolutely everyone that Anakin and Padme were more than just friends.
