|| 🍍• If Sonic 3 coming out later this year does embrace a Sonic Adventure 2/Sonic X take on Shadow’s Arc…

…I think he’ll be the one to try and get through to Shadow:

Why?

Because of: Longclaw

The one being who scarified themselves to ensure the other could survive and/or fulfill their future purpose.

The similarities are uncanny, and - as much as I feel exploring the comparability between this all would be amazing - I’m hesitant to suggest that this was always the plan to complete a trilogy. It might not be. But I’m sus.

In this universe, we’re presented with a Sonic character who can - to some degree - directly relate to being ripped away from that one person in his life who was all he’d ever supposedly known, trusted, and cared for. If Movieverse Shadow follows close to other iterations and arcs of the character, the same trauma can naturally be said for him. And I feel that would lead to a very interesting set-up if done right. And Shadow isn’t made into some prick edgelord

Cue the: “How could you possibly know what loss feels like?” spiel mid-scuffle and Sonic snaps.

“Because I lost everything, too. I made a mistake, and…everything went wrong because of me…”

“Her name was Longclaw, and she protected me so I could get here. To safety. I put people in danger. I put her in danger because I wasn’t responsible. And now she’s gone.”

“I miss her everyday. Sometimes I wonder if things had been different…if I…”

“Look, I can be angry and upset about what I did; what happened, I still kinda’ am, but revenge isn’t going to bring Longclaw back.”

Sonic lost a great deal when he left Longclaw behind; his carer, his home, his everything. But throughout the Movieverse, he’s come to gain something just as beautiful - a caring family and amazing friends.

We also begin to journey alongside Sonic as he starts to get used to the idea of being responsible in Sonic 2 and concluding he still wanted to ‘be a kid’. And what could be more of a perfect act of responsibility and ‘growing up’ than directly showing another the power of being a just hero and supporting someone who’s pain he can understand.

None of this, “yeah we were besties” bullshit with no actual deep, meaningful visuals.

I wanna see it all.

• Did Maria sneak into the lab and watch Shadow grow in his pod? Did they have a hands -touching-through-glass moment?

• What happened when they first met on the Ark? Was Shadow the kind of hedgehog that hid behind Gerald’s leg all shy of new faces, or did he shake her hand sort of deal right away?

• Did they get up to mischief together on the Ark?

• Did they stay up late under blankets with Maria narrating all her best stories?

• Did they have old Disney movie nights?

• Did Shadow study the Disney Princess movies so he could learn why Maria got that beautiful far away gaze when the Prince Charming characters appeared?

• Did they spend all of their time together?

• Did they make silly nicknames for each other like kids do and play with the staff’s walkie talkies?

• Did they steal all the snacks and have midnight feasts together?

• Did Shadow learn how to tame her hair when she became too unwell to do it herself?

• Did Shadow stay with her during these times and watch her sleep to make sure she was ok?

• Does Shadow see her face every time he closes his eyes?

• Does Shadow see Maria in others he comes to know?

|| 🍍• I’m a sappy fuck - but fr i can’t help but picture a “found family” end credits scene in Sonic 3 for Shadow.

It’ll never happen but, say that Maria had a bucket list of all the places she wanted to go when she got to Earth. And Shadow being the cool brother ultimate lifeform remembers it back to front, left to right.

Cue Shads actually getting to Earth, and not doing the “very Shadow thing to do and die protecting Earth”, and deciding to embark on a quest to experience everything Maria wanted to do and see - obviously on his very cool motorcycle…can’t forget the very cool motorcycle…

Coincidentally, a certain blue hedgehog also kinda wants to see the world for fun rather than getting his ass kicked across every biome playing hero…(and he’s most likely at an age where he probably wants to spread his wings a little away from home).

Somehow after incessantly pleading, Shadow agrees, although not without a strict and rigid “do not do this, this, that, or this�� list for Sonic.

So off they pop on his…now theirs…travels.

Initially, like Shadow’s strict and rigid “do not do this, this, that, or this” list for Sonic, Shadow is also very strict and rigid with where they go. And this continues for a while. But Sonic the ever talkative little fuck rambles on and on about some cool places he’s seen or has heard about being amazing…and that’s when the detours start to crop up. Shadow begrudgingly thinks it’s fine. An hour stop here and there, two tops.

Weirdly though, these new places he’s certain Maria would’ve loved. First just one or two short stops, but then eventually whole days worth of detours.

And eventually…a good few months in perhaps, Shadow realises, through Sonic’s bubbly and energetic zest for life, he doesn’t mind as much, because he’s got an eternity to see what Maria was so keen to see, but Sonic doesn’t…make every moment count, am I right?

So they go wherever the roads take them and the end credits is just snapshots and photographs of all the idiot things the two dumbasses get up to…
