hi everyone! it's javi (he/they) back at it with my 5th muse, sunny! she's a rebranded muse and one of my absolute favorites, so i hope you all love her! as always, you can reach me through ims or discord (preferred) upon request. i'm usually always around and respond pretty quickly to plotting. under the cut, i'll have more info about her, if you're interested!

sunny is from california originally and lived there until she was in 7th grade, before moving to korea and going to an international school in seoul. her father died when she was young and her mom basically blew all of his insurance policy payout bc she thrived on living the high life. she then married a wealthy korean man who moved her and sunny back home to seoul where they could "start anew".

she ended up leaving the city when she graduated high school and instead of going back to california, decided to explore more of korea. she ended up loving the small town of yuseong bay and got a job at daeyanghwa florals. when the owner learned she was essentially homeless, she took sunny in and the two became really close. tragically the owner would pass away, leaving her home and daeyanghwa florals to sunny since she had no other living relatives.

sunny never wants to leave yuseong. she's quite content here, although the resort encroaching on the small town's blissful sort of untouched environment is ruining her vibe and she's very vocal about it.

sunny's very chill, friendly, and super intelligent. she is very easy to get along with because she generally never has a bad thing to say about anyone (mostly because she's someone who thinks deeply before saying anything). depending on the person, sunny can be quite outspoken or very unresponsive. it's not surprising that someone could either find her very intimidating or her presence very warm and alluring.

other than gardening and arranging flowers, sunny's spent time studying botany and plant biology. she grows her own garden, started and maintained by the previous owner, but is pretty self sustaining just based on the various types of fruits and vegetables found in her yard.

she also maintains a medium sized green house, where she grows plants of a certain illegal variety, which she dries and sells to trusted customers only.

she also can be found baking and selling her local goods at the farmers market.

It occurred to me in the last hour or so that I keep mentioning Basil this and Basil that and with the exception of one or two people there’s no one that currently writes with me that followed that blog he was on lol 😂 Apologies for that. Allow me to take a quick moment, then, to explain who he is, how I write him, and why I will continue to write him despite his actor/co-creator having dumb opinions as of late.

“Basil” is Basil Fawlty, the protagonist of the 70s British sitcom Fawlty Towers (a show I love dearly that, while beloved in the UK, has zero presence online or in the US). He owns and runs the titular hotel, but he’s the last person who should be in a position of customer service. He’s rude, snobbish, arrogant, has more than a bit of a temper, he’s a chronic blame shifter…you get the point, he’s a horrible person to be around. A lot of the comedy in the series comes from both karma kicking in and making his life a living hell and the antics that ensue as he tries to maintain the flimsy lies he starts. Yeah…British comedy is a lot more “Always Sunny” than “Friends” lol

On my old blog, however, I tried to make him…less annoying, is the word I would use? For the sake of threads not being unbearable to continue I allowed him to warm up and show reluctant forms of gratitude towards the muses I wrote with, and I’ll be continuing that here. Just don’t expect it to happen for a long while or unless it’s under extraneous circumstances. I also completely ignore he and the rest of the cast’s tendency to be xenophobic and/or bigots, because I’m not comfortable writing that and that’s not the kind of stuff I want to project out into the world. He’s still plenty rude in other ways, though. And that’s what makes him fun to write! None of my other muses are as unquestionably stuck up as he is.

However, the problem comes in with his actor and co-creator, Monty Python alum John Cleese. In the months following me starting to write him he began a track of saying and agreeing with the stupidest things, particularly regarding a certain author’s LGBTQ+ opinions, and this track has continued to this day. He’s becoming his own character, which distresses me greatly as a fan of both the Pythons and the sitcom he created. In hindsight, it’s no wonder (minus people not having knowledge of the series) that interactions with Basil dropped off.

It’s all a bit disheartening, the stuff with John, to say the least. But in the least political way possible, because I refuse to get involved with politics, I could not give less of a shit about John’s opinions and stupidness and what he chooses to say or not say in his old age. The fact of the matter is, I’m a fan of his comedy work and his comedy work only, and to me no controversy can take away how brilliant his Python and Towers work is. And me writing my interpretation of his most entertaining character is my way of celebrating that work. Rping is supposed to be a fun hobby that involves writing characters you love, free of politics. Basil, for me, is just an example of that, nothing more and nothing less.

So, he’ll be my first male muse on this blog, coming sooner than later, followed by more well-known ones that aren’t as controversial for sure 😂 but I don’t want to abandon Basil. You don’t have to interact with him if he’s not your cup of tea, but don’t judge me based on whatever he may say or do-even if I am toning him down where it matters. If ever there was a place for a “mun does not equal the muse” disclaimer, this is it.

I’ll probably link to this post in my muse bio for him, too. Just felt like all of this needed to be said prior to his reintroduction so no one gets any weird ideas. Thank you all for listening.

one could say that artistry was in their blood, creativity bursting from both parents. paola campos, an internationally recognized children's illustrator & valentine solis an established glassblower.

the campos solis children were a rambunctious bunch, but nearly inseparable. as a middle child surely it would be easy to slip through the cracks, but inez was hard to ignore. with a big personality and a loud voice, lucia and francisco usually caved to inez's will ( with love ). playing pretend was the name of their game and inez was VERY adamant that everyone plays their role correctly.

their parents tried to harness all that energy into something productive and then it wasn't long before inez was cast in a handful of indie projects around their childhood home in san miguel allende, mexico. from age six to fifteen she had post credits ( however small the project ) in around 10 projects in mexico.

the family relocated to los angeles around their fifteenth birthday, inez's love of the industry sparked their older sister's interest in screenwriting, and her brother's love of cinematography. a family affair ! it didn't take long for inez to break into hollywood & they haven't looked back since!

it's nearly impossible for inez to take anything BUT acting seriously. always joking, laughing, and making light of situations. they have the outward expression emotional rage of a teaspoon as themself, but boy can they emote as any character thrown their way.

fame did bring some anxieties, especially since word vomit was her absolute specialty. it helped that inez deeply and unconsciously pushed down every single negative emotion of their own, couldn't fuck up if you're positive polly and goofy gabby !

Building A Better RP Ad

“I am seeking a Natasha to play against my Bucky” “I am seeking a Steve Rogers to play against my OC” I see a ton of ads that look like this. I used the Marvel fandom, but it could be any. And I think that people who post super-sparse, bare bones ads like this would get MUCH better results if they got more specific about the dynamic they’re seeking between characters (is it romantic? If so, is it slow burn or instantly established? Snarky sex partners? Enemies to lovers? Domestic fluffy lovebirds? Married with children?) and offered up a few plot ideas. Not only would the latter showcase what sorts of plots and themes you’re interested in—thrillers, fluff, AUs, emotional conversations, fast-paced action–it would also demonstrate that you have ideas you can bring to the table, you’re not just going to expect the other person to think of everything. You don’t need to pitch a novel, just a few basic sentences about what you’ve got in mind. Here are some examples: “I really want to do a fantasy AU, something with dragon-riding! I’m looking for a mixture of action/adventure with more chill domestic aspects, like just hanging out flying together or taking care of their dragons and talking.” “I’m seeking a nitty-gritty exploration of both our character’s trauma. Healing might be at the end of the tunnel, but only after they’ve both faced the worst parts of themselves and their pasts. I don’t want any sanitized, instantly-fixed-with-love stuff here, I want realness and long, drawn-out angst.” “I really like conspiracy/thriller plots, and I have ideas for several. For instance, one or both of our muses loses their powers and they have to track down who caused this and find out why, or an important figure from one of their pasts comes calling with a dubious agenda, or there’s a heist where our thieves are both racing towards the same prize but fall in love on the way due to being so impressed with each other’s skills!” These are admittedly pretty specific, so if you don’t have an idea that concrete in mind, you can always do something like: “I’m seeking a romance in a dark setting” “I’d like something lighthearted with a pre-established ship” “I want platonic slice-of-life most, but I also have a couple AU settings I’d love to try” And if your ad is for someone to play against your OC, whether it’s OCxCanon or OCxOC, a brief bio or overview of who your OC is and what they’re like would probably do WONDERS both at helping your advert stand out, as well as making people more likely to respond. After all, there’s nothing enticing about a total blank whom you know nothing about, but “my OC Maya, a no-nonsense pipefitter in her 30s with strong feminist and environmentalist leanings, a frank and direct demeanor, and a touch of paranoia due to past trauma. She’s likely to be found at the farmer’s market getting fresh local produce, enjoying some Korean food, or rocking out at a 90s alternative cover night.” See? That wasn’t a massive bio, but it gives someone a pretty good quick picture of who Maya is, and they probably will have a better sense of if their muse would vibe with her or not. It may still be a “not” of course, but now the people who DO have muses who would like her will KNOW! Here’s some more examples with my OCs: “My girl Lemon is in her late 20s and she’s a big buff boisterous ball of energy! She’s not the brightest around, but her heart is big and so are her biceps! She’s super sunny and always eager to meet new people and explore new things, but she can be a little (or a lot) much for people. She could be a shy friend’s extrovert besty OR their worst nightmare!” “Aviram, or Avi for short, is a sensitive and introverted plant dad. He’s a conflict-avoidant vegetarian and while he’s great at listening and offering sympathy, he’s not good at actual solutions. Despite this, he has a love for controlled thrill scenarios like sky-diving, paint-balling, or spelunking.” “Alya is a married woman in her 40s who is currently struggling with her faith due to a miscarriage. She’s maternal and empathetic, but these same qualities sometimes lead her to being manipulative with those she cares about due to feeling she knows what’s best for them.” Then just combine them! I’d introduce the character first, then the scenarios you’re interested in. And even if you’re writing a canon character, it still may be useful to include any specifics about your own portrayal, such as what sources you draw on, if there’s any source material you ignore/disagree with/don’t include, relevant headcanons, etc. So yet again, here are examples, this time using my OCs with canon characters from X-Men, She-Ra, and The Vampire Chronicles/Interview With the Vampire: “I’m seeking a found family RP for Laura Kinney and/or Gabby Kinney with my OC, Maya. Maya’s an adult woman, so it would be a protective/platonic thing. She’s a no-nonsense pipefitter in her 30s with strong feminist and environmentalist leanings, a frank and direct demeanor, and a touch of paranoia due to past trauma. I like the idea of her finding one of the girls and protecting them as best she can from those after them while also trying to convince them she’s safe, especially since she knows how hard it is to trust when you’ve been hurt. Definitely a feels-heavy RP, with some action scenes from the bad guys after Laura/Gabby/both girls. It would be set in the Marvel comics universe or the “Logan” movie setting. Trigger warnings for a lot of dark themes and trauma exploration definitely apply.” “I’m seeking someone to play Scorpia against my OC Lemon! Lemon has a LOT in common with Scorpia, she’s also a big energetic buff lady!  She’s not too bright, but she has a HUGE heart. I think they’d bounce off each other really well! NGL, I’m hoping for a ship but that doesn’t have to happen. Wholesome fluff either way! Also, I’m a sucker for college and coffeeshops AUs! My biggest plot bunnies right now is that they’re university study-buddies, roller derby teammates, or that Scorpia gets set up on a blind date with Lemon (maybe by Netossa and Spinnerella who know her from a local Pride group?) after being rejected by Catra again. Open to other ideas though ;) “ “I’m seeking someone to write Claudia, Armand, Petronia, Gabrielle, or their own Vampire Chronicles OC against my VC OC Gaspard. Gaspard is a non-binary English vampire as well as a fencer and a violinist; they’re dapper, elegant, reserved, and chivalrous. I think they would really want to protect Claudia or Armand, and I’ve always wanted an ending where Claudia survived. Of course, if they protect Claudia, any relationship with an Armand would be kill-on-sight! For Gabrielle or Petronia, I’m seeking more shippy vibes, but they could end up enemies with Petronia too due to Petronia’s predatory nature. I really like the tragic, existential themes of the books, so that’s what I’d want to play out, but I do love goofing around with crack too! Gaspard became a vampire in the Victorian era, so my picks for setting would be either that, the 1920s in Paris, or modern-day US or UK, but I’m open to other scenarios. Please note I use the BOOK canon, I haven’t seen the show and I don’t like the movies much. I won’t write nsfw with Claudia or Armand, but it could be on the table for the others with the right buildup.” Also, while I think this advice could help ALL kinds of ads, I do admit it was inspired by seeing so many adverts that just say  "I want someone to play [popular male canon] against my OC" I don’t mean to sound mean, but I often wonder if the people posting these ads realize just how MANY ads exactly like their own are out there----why should players of these often highly in-demand characters pick YOUR ad to answer when they're probably swamped with such requests? The fact is, they’re probably quite wary at this point of these sorts of ads, as some will always be people just seeking someone to fulfill their personal fantasies while contributing nothing in return. I’m not saying that’s all OCs–lots of canon writers are the same, I can attest to this!---but if you’re playing a popular canon, especially a male, you do get gun-shy after awhile due to too many bad apples. So hopefully spicing up your advert with the above will help you stand out as a very good apple, and get you some bites! Some other things helpful to specify in your ad: - Your typical reply length and reply speed. For instance, I tend to reply every few days to a week at my best, and prefer multi-para - Triggers, squicks, and no-gos. You could also include stuff that, while it doesn’t bother you, you’re just not interested in. For instance, I’m not a meandering fluff-type person and I’m largely not interested in romance/shipping. I also don’t like writing the female half of m/f couples. And there are some FCs that I won’t write with. - If you’re seeking a nsfw RP or not, if you’re willing to do smut or not, and what sort of kinks or sex acts you WON’T do (similar to triggers and no-gos, but specifically for smut) Including the sort of sex acts and kinks you’d strongly prefer can also be helpful finding someone with similar interest! - If you’re a minor or not, and what age range you prefer to roleplay with. Even for sfw stuff, many older roleplayers can be uncomfy writing with someone significantly younger, and vice versa. - If you do doubling - If you give out your Discord, or if you’d prefer to communicate through Tumblr’s IMs or asks Note that of course I understand you can’t send this much detailed info in an ask to an RP advert blog, but if you’re just posting in the tags? More detail might be the way to get more results! Give it a try, you have nothing to lose!

Today's musings are on the complex and fascinating bonds between humans and how those are viewed in various cultures. In particular, I want to talk about found family and my personal experiences regarding the topic.

First, I want to set the stage as to what larger cultural norms are at play for me personally. I'm a US American, generally raised in the South (though there were childhood years spent in the Southwest and Inland Northwest as well) who has, as an adult, largely lived in New England and the Mid-Atlantic regions of the US.

My bio family is...well the politest terms would probably be "a dumpster fire of generational trauma, dysfunction, and toxicity." Those relationships are complex and fraught with issues for the most part. I was fortunate to mostly patch things up with my dad before he passed and after he sobered up and acknowledged a majority of his fuckups as a dad. I still talk with my bio brother, and we love each other, but we're not particularly close these days. I haven't talked with my bio mom for twenty years. The only other person from my bio family that I'm close to is a second cousin who is only a year older than me and who was a dear friend to me growing up. Always felt more like a sibling than a cousin, to be honest.

Despite the lack of supportive and healthy relationships with my bio family, I have a wonderful found family that I've been a part of for more than twenty years. And the thing about familial relationships (found or bio) is that they are layered and complex, and sometimes it's easier to use shorthand to refer to relationships rather than a whole long ass story on how you are connected or, in the case of bio family, disconnected.

My found family is largely made up of a group of women and their partners, plus some of our extended friends. Most are in the same age range, with some variation. And we all consider each other family. For the core group, we tend to refer to each other as sisters, because that is the easiest way to explain our relationship to others. One couple tends to get referred to as the parental units of the group though we do not call them mom and dad.

One of the key reasons we end up using familial terminology to refer to each other is cultural expectations. These folks are my next of kin. They are the ones who will visit me in the hospital should something happen. It's a hell of a lot easier and quicker to say "sister" when visiting someone at the hospital, especially if someone is in critical care and only family is allowed. It was also easier when one of us had to go pick up one of the kids from school or something to be listed as their Aunt. People understand those relationship terms and it's shorthand to help you get through social situations without having to give a longwinded explanation of your relationship that makes you feel like the guy from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia with his conspiracy board.

Is this the case with all found families? No. Found families, like bio families, come in a wide variety of configurations. But I bet in certain situations, people do use shorthand just to bypass the cultural bullshit or restrictions that come into play (e.g. visiting someone in ICU). But I wanted to share my experiences and thoughts. Because I am getting a bit tired of some of the "stop using family terms for found family" dialogue. It feels a bit like a slap in the face and someone telling me that my lived experience isn't valid or real.

Like all such discourse, it is nuanced. I agree that people shouldn't police others' interpretations of things (i.e. tell someone they can't ship someone because they are siblings in a found family). But that is a different issue. One more related to people being unable to see that their interpretation doesn't supersede anyone else's--that there is no one true way to see anything. It's all filtered through our own experiences and views.

Human relationships are complex and varied across the board, and languages don't always have words to express those connections fully. English is fairly limited when it comes to words describing relationships. Add in that certain cultures, in my case US American culture, often favor some relationships more than others, and you have a bit of a mess that can make describing your loved ones and family challenging. It would be lovely if we could all keep that in mind when discussing these things. There are many ways to live your life and many types of families, found or otherwise. Maybe someone's experience is beyond your ken, but that doesn't mean it's less valid or real.

Hello! I’m July and these are my muses! I decided to put all their mini intros into one bulk post for now so it’s easier to digest!! I’m still working on all their pages and bios but I have them all worked out in my head so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Josefine:

Dreamshade, Black Jaguar, 530 years old, deceit manipulation.

A high profile lawyer- Josefine isn’t one who can be caught off-guard easily. She’s vivacious, cunning and decisive. Her ability of deceit manipulation means she can convince anyone that anything she says is true- if she give it enough gusto. Be wary around this big cat, she’s a good ally to have however she may not be telling you the whole truth: whether friend, or foe.

Celine:

Human, 25 years old (23, on her official website), minor healing.

You’ve no doubt seen her in an advert, on a billboard or you’ve heard her latest single playing on the radio, but you’d be mistaken if you thought the starlet was a conceited snob. Celine is a little sweetheart who has been following her sisters dreams since she was young and has found a fame equal to her talents. However, a curse inflicted on her by a die-hard fan (who was trying to make her fall in love with him) has caused a strange side effect- petals fall from her hair when she feels a strong emotion, sometimes building up such a mess that it seems unbearable- however just wait 45 minutes and they’ll disappear on their own!

Gabs:

Spirit Warrior, 23 years old, Telekinesis, aligned with House Beltran. Enchanted Ring .

Being born into a family that deals mainly in crime, Gabs has had a rather strange upbringing to say the least. With her grandfathers empire growing, her mother uprooted their family from their home in Rigbarth to settle in Selphia and assist Gyeonggu “Giovanni” Ryu with his work. The Ryu’s set up multiple restaurants and businesses all across the city to launder their money- however to their surprise they all boomed and ended up becoming very popular places for the people of selphia- and other cities to visit. All the locations are named “Giovanni’s”, merely stating what the actual business is after the initial name (Giovanni’s pizzeria, Giovanni’s korean-italian fusion, Giovanni’s dream stone evaluation etc.). Her mother, Sunny Ryu, wants Gabs to understand the true value of money rather than continue being the spoiled brat she is, Gabriella has found herself working at these various businesses to help her family out.

Val:

There is no honour amongst thieves, this is something Valerie Kaur knows to be true. A relic hunter by trade, if you hire her to find an item for you there’s a 100% chance she’s going to sell you a forgery that will turn to sugar glass after a few months pass. However, if you try to complain to her, she’ll show you the fine print on the contract you signed which gives her all rights and ownership to any relic she retrieves- essentially making her exploits legal (she had Josefine read it all over, it’s fine). Despite her slippery nature as a businesswoman, Val is a solid friend and is always there when those she loves need her. She’s also a skilled sorceress, having studied magic for the majority of her life- she’ll help you out with anything you need if you’re nice enough to her. She holds a deep grudge against the wizards apprentices as she was refused by Rasmodius for being “too unpredictable” and “possessing volatile magic”. 

Petyr:

Dreamshade, Grizzly Bear, 330 years old, Earth Manipulation.

A bounty hunter by trade, Petyr is well versed in the strengths and weaknesses of various creatures that inhabit the lands surrounding Selphia. Originally from the town of Orre, he relocated long before the Boundary laid it’s curse upon his kinsmen and women. He lives in a cottage on the outer edges of Selphia with his husband and their adopted daughter, a family man through and through he keeps their photos on him at all times and has a lunch packed with a note every day by that girl he rescued so many years ago. Petyr knows his work is dangerous, thus makes sure to message his husband and daughter throughout his days when on the job- to alleviate any worry they may have. Known for his darker sense of humour, he’s been known to send a selfie in a precarious situation or with a monster in the background to his family, knowing he’ll be scolded when he gets home later on.

Bitna:

Dreamshade, Daltokki, 29 years old, Blood Healing, House Vanitas

Taken in by her uncle Haneul at a young age after the tragic passing of her parents, Bitna has tried to live her life fully in their absence and make something of herself so they’ll be proud of her. She’s always had an interest in fashion, studying it in college and pursuing a career in blogging and writing columns for various websites and magazines as a freelance writer until she broke into influencing. She still writes in her downtime but the majority of her time is taken up with photoshoots and filming for her various social media channels. She’s very cheerful on the exterior, but is haunted by the death of her parents, although she’d never show it in polite company.

Bryan:

Human, 32 years old, potioneer

Bryan is a sweet soul who only wants to help people, extremely smart he was given the opportunity to graduate high school early, but refused so as to not leave his friends behind. His impeccable studying skills allowed him to graduate medical school with top marks and while he could have made moves to become a high paid surgeon or private doctor, he instead opted to be a General Practitioner, able to help as many people as possible. He’s very protective of his little sisters, Barbara and Celine, and constantly worries about his superstar siblings wellbeing as he’s well aware of the diets she goes on to maintain her image. Despite being so close to fame, Bryan is very down to earth and tends to shy away from those who want to get to know him just to get to his sister.

Min:

Dreamshade, Viper, 903 years old, Weapon Proficiency - Touch

Raised in the wildwoods, Min’s family believed themselves to be above those mere mortals known as “humans” that lived beyond the trees edges. Their fealty to the Lady of the Wildwoods was absolute and unwavering. Min didn’t enjoy having to follow such strict rules and thus parted ways with her family to explore the world outside of the woods. Although it appears that her parents weren’t quite so truthful about their refusal to breach the borders as she was handed the responsibility of an infant sibling who’s human Mother didn’t want anything to do with him. She raised Simon dutifully until eventually she met her husband and they had children of their own. While attending an appointment with her son, Nemo, their elder daughter spent time with her Uncle Simon and tragically turned to seafoam after giggling at the ice cream splotch on his nose.

Regina (Meemaw):

Human, 69 years old, ecological empathy

Everyones Meemaw, Regina prides herself on her family first and foremost. She was born a city native, but on a family vacation to the countryside she fell in love with a bumpkin who stole her heart with a cob of corn and a crooked grin. They eventually grew up and took on his family farm. Her ability helped her maintain the crops and livestock and she loved everything about her life, they had kids and eventually grandkids and her home was always warm and full of laughter. When her grandson got called to be head of Beltran- she was proud, but mostly worried. She tries to keep her nose out- but she simply cant sometimes

julia (charismatic, stubborn, restless, quick-tempered) is a twenty-something beach child who grew up in california and spent nearly all her free time surfing. she attended college until a family emergency demanded her back, after which she accidentally fell pregnant when out on the town with friends. since her baby daddy was an nyc rising pro athlete, but they both wanted to work out co-parenting, julia exchanged the sunny beaches of LA for the busy streets of new york and has since taken up a job as a part-time florist while providing her baby son with the most love in the world, all while trying to build a life in a city that feels so unlike herself. – originally from a group.
