theres smth So funny about how shuro was crushing so hard on falin but Cannot Stand laios despite them being the same. like i KNOW falin wasn’t aware of how shuro felt, i know she was thinking to herself “wow hes so nice to me :) what a good friend” , when laios would wedge himself in their private convos and hangouts i know falin was like “yay my brothers here :D now we can all hang out!” like shuro u never had a chance with her lesbian ass and her autism was just as dense as laios’s and u were too down bad to notice

which dungeon meshi character do you think would be most likely to do drag and what kind of drag do u think they would fw the most. i think senshi would love going to drag shows and tipping a generally ludicrous amount of money

This is the only ask in the worlddd to me.

I'm can't imagine most of the core party doing Drag themselves but the one's that come to mind immediately would be Fleki & Lycion.

Fleki's just bursting with personality, has the kind of confidence and banter that you want for a Drag artist. The little fashion explorations Ryoko Kui did too are soooooooo right for this. I think she'd 100% be drawn to the glamor and camp and stupidity drag has to offer. Probably play around between king and queen aesthetics. I also think she'd be so squarely be a baby queen tripping over her own heels but it's part of the fun and humor of it all.

Lycion is here bc he's besties with Fleki and also because his whole Everything of wanting to escape into being beast to alleviate his discomfort with his body and identity. Which idk I could talk about for ages, it's like Laois and Falin, another character who I have never seen before in media who speaks so deeply to myself as a person. Lycion is absolutelyyyyy doing monster drag it's not even a question. Like if we're talking about this in a modern setting then he's absolutely using some kind of wolfman drag persona as a way to alleviate his distress with himself. I think he'd be aiming for as inhuman as possible. I think he'd get a huge thrill out of performing it and it'd be an easy 1 to 1 with him feeling validated in fight rings as a beast. I think he'd also be able to beat his face so right if he was just dressing up nice, I know him and Fleki r doing makeup looks together.

Last character is Laois but also not quite. Like with any other modern day headcannon people have for him like fursuiting, being trans, being otherkin ect even if on paper these would absolutely speak to him I just don't think he'd ever come to those conclusions himself. I think that kind of repression and isolation are really crucial to how he views the world and I think he's more likely to be formulating his own ideas rather than fitting into any kind of community already. I'm putting him here for similar reasons to Lycion, since they're both characters who want to become beasts. Lycion though feels like an out twink with gay friends, who knows who he is and what brings him joy and I don't think Laois is quite there yet as a person.

UM thinking abt it now he'd be more likely be a creature suit actor. Drag monsters still are more symbolic / character focused, and with creature suits I think he'd be really abnormal talking about how he's bonded with the silicon. You know he'd be asking a thousand questions abt the designs biology. You know he'd ask about its diet so he can go eat like that too to get in character.

Other than that I think the main crew would show up to drag shows and have a good time. I'm kind of obsessed with the joke of Marcille being a bit of a prude / not knowing what a butch is so I think her going to a drag bar with Falin would be really really really funny. You know namari is a local, this might be out of left field but I could also see Chilchuck being around a drag bar a lot as some old queen (twink) manager who's catty about baby queens or ppls bar etiquette.

Kabru is there because he is gay. I think if Kabru saw Laois in his local drag bar he would burst a blood vessel and talk shit about how some people just shouldn't come to shows because they're not actually gay and how it's ruining his night and he stole his seat so now he has to stand or he's blocking his view LMAO. Senshi would absolutely be buying the queens drinks bc he wants them to stay hydrated.

I also think the winged lion would do drag, is that anything. I think the winged lion is a pageant glamour queen.

No, but, OK- Chilchuck and Church would literally be that joke of not liking each other until the moment they both tell everybody else to shut up at the same time and they share a moment- "We are the same... finally, somebody who GETS me". Tex is legit impressed with the union work Chilchuck has set up, she wants to get in on this, does he need a bodyguard?

Laios and Caboose are vibing. Laios also thinks Locus is So Cool, and they're both socially inept in opposite ways, but in the sense that it kinda fits together.

Tucker is over there trying to hit on Marcille and Falin, no need to be jealous ladies, plenty of him to go around, and he'd never want to ruin such a great friendship, just gals being pals. Kai is also flirting by she Knows.

Grif wants Senshi to adopt him (and Senshi is 100% cool with that, this poor boy is so hungry), and he has to ask Simmons- "Dude, is this how you feel about Sarge? Like, all the time?". Simmons is trying to math-hack all the fantasy rules.

Carolina just killed a dragon (what, like it's hard?). Wash is like- "Well, at least nothing is gonna run over me here in wacky magic land", and then the first car in this world ever hits him. Doc is having a FUN time learning about all the weird flora and fauna here, O'Malley is already trying to become some combination of dark wizard/necromancer (but he's not good at it).

Donut meets Evil Aslan, and is just- "OK, I'm just gonna skip ahead and kill you right now. I've been through this song and dance with demon-gods, I know how it goes".

I love to watch my boy Chilchuck skitter... what a guy. Also damn that sword does NOT want to be part of any of this. I guess if I was a little guy I'd get scared of being used to kill a dragon too but at the same time Laios almost had it that first time. It's been a bit since I last read, but it's so far only actively gone to attack things (usually that are easily defeated when you know where they are 🤔). A dragon wouldn't eat a sword, what's it even afraid of? I don't think it wants Laios and co to die that badly since it's saved him before when it could've let things gettim. Sigh. Ig we'll see.

Ik the fandom likes to focus on omg autistic Laios being autistic abt his monsters 😋 (and then the anime onlys still think he's a himbo so far lmfao) but I really love seeing how he gets in battles like this. Plan keeps going wrong, and he keeps calmly coming up with new move after new move on the fly. It might be going poorly, but he knows his and his team's strengths and weaknesses and is taking a calculated risk. God, I love this guy.

Woah. Like, I know revival and healing magic or whatever, but it takes BALLS to plan and then successfully enact a plan that involves having your leg be eaten and then chopping what's left off. My stomach dropped when I realized his plan ngl. Damn. Like, from the pain alone, most people would faint or at least hesitate enough to mess up the kill shot.

I think I have very many feelings about falin continuing adventuring after the end of the manga like... She wasn't that interested in it before she left the academy to take care of laios, but she's good at it! Like. Genuinely she is really well suited to adventuring! But I had wondered if she would be involved in the kingdom or keep looking after laios or what, bc if laios had needed her around still, she probably would have stayed around more or less- and she kinda did! She seems to return frequently! But she's still adventuring! She didn't go back to the academy now that her brother has friends, she didn't stay to help with politics or anything, the two of them found their dream jobs, practically, and she's still doing it! And snacking on monsters while she's at it! Like... Finding something so perfect for you in this moment of self sacrifice is sooooo

Her life was always very much about laios and then laios and marcille and so doing something that laios is notably unable to be involved in, and isn't about marcille either, it's just! Yes girl!!

And then, bc siblings, she comes home and immediately brags about getting to eat whatever monsters senshi cooked for her (like ur dad takes u to McDonald's and says not to tell anyone and you immediately run to say LOOK I GOT NUGGETS AND YOU DIDN'T. mega siblings behavior)

OK SO THE FARCILLE HALF FOOT INCIDENT THAT LIVES IN MY BRAIN. nobody look at me i'm really tender about my farcille headcanons

Spoilers for like ch22 til 50ish and for anime onlys

SO ROLESWAP WITH FALIN AS THE ONE GOING TO RESCUE LAIOS AFTER HE GETS EATEN BY THE DRAGON. things would be similar to in canon with some differences. Laios getting fuckin bit in half saving falin. Marcille being the one to teleport them all and feeling really guilty for leaving laios behind but she was unable to stomach the idea of losing falin when it was so close to happening… both of them still having chil tag along (chil is now the one pining for his missing touden btw. if you even care).

And meeting Senshi who is a bit more reserved about Falin’s magic but less wary because it’s gnomish and he knew gnomes at least. Falin and Marcille both doing dark magic together to resurrect him. (Um. Falin may have put herself in the dungeon a bit and well you see she might just be a beautiful puppy girl with gender affirming fangs and feathers and. um. the dragon cock) and

She is grappling with taking what she wants and no longer just being understanding and easygoing and protecting everyone else but having to confront seizing her own happiness and her own life and rescuing Laios even if other people don’t like him. i see her as being a fundamentally deeply enmeshed character and growing from that would be her plot arc. Namari would still leave but they might still have Shuro idk. Or maybe Falin would alienate him by saying something abt Laios mattering more and not caring about Shuro or if he loved her if he can’t save Laios then who gives a shit about him. And then he’d leave to get his retainers and prove himself to HER rather than his father I think. Yeah that’s pretty good

And ANYWAYS falin is already a chimera so the changeling shrooms maybe don’t affect her or maybe she just gets like. Um. you know how izutsumi just becomes a different race of beastkin. Don’t look at me. And then Marcille is still a half foot and she gets soooooo overwhelmed. The speculative bio of it all. The undocked long tail. (Chil could share a little lore about them traditionally being docked at adolescence to become an adult to avoid stigma of being considered basically beast men etc [and falin would be like ooooh shit that’s why he’s so weird about eating demihumans huh bcuz some ppl consider half-foots basically as that.] but also that more modern half-foots are eschewing the tradition... He let his kids pick what they wanted to do, and Fler wanted hers docked but Mei and Puck chose to keep them.)

And anyway overwhelmed Marcille just wants Falin to take care of her so Falin carries her away in her big strong chimera tallman arms and keeps brushing her whiskers and well. They simply get so curious about each others’ bodies (no chance to explore really with the pace of the dungeon and staying ahead of Others), that they simply must bang it out. Falin can smell her. Btw. Biting with the fangs. Btwwww

Chil also had an experience of chimera laios treating him oh so gently and staring at him w the same usual dopey laios look before wreaking havoc on everyone else. Btw. And it keeps him up at night. If u even care

i actually started reblogging stuff from it before i'd ever read it just because it was all over my dash and it looked neat by itself (and also people kept mentioning "hey this is just like the thing you wrote" so i got shown a lot of it anyway lol). started reading it a couple weeks ago even though i've had a bunch of the major spoilers revealed just via dashboard osmosis, and it's really good so far. haven't watched the anime yet. (also at random i read some later chapters too, i think the ones with the dumplings and the stuff after)

thoughts:

contains my exact brand of pedantry and wondering how exactly some classic rpg mechanics work except for once when you actually stop and dig into it it's not stupid and in fact very good and has something to say besides "durr hurr look at me i'm so clever for thinking about videoed game!" on paper this series is everything i'd hate but it really does go to show execution is everything.

also love to read something where i have trouble picking out a favourite character. might be chilchuck? everyone's great though. i'll probably change my mind next week again

i feel like people overstate how present falin/marcille is and are gonna wind up setting other people up for disappointment if they try and market it like that

and related people are reluctant to engage with the fact that she's there to do fucked up forbidden magic that's what she's there for! it wasn't a desperation move that's why she's in the dungeon! let her commit crimes against nature for HER own satisfaction GOSH

i fucking love making Food Mistakes and it got me back into cooking. i've made so much goddamn stew since i started reading. too intimidated to try anything with dough for now. botw and trails in the sky did this to me as well, just started cooking stuff irl every time i unlocked an in-game recipe

good so far and from what i know about it i expect it to stay that way.

i think. hmm shed be huge friends with izutsumi since at the end of the series they're both sort of half another creatures and i think they'd go on great adventures that could be as simple as lets go catch a fish or maybe falin would drag izutsumi to go attend errands with her. they both have similar mindsets of going with the flow but in two different directions so it would be intersting to see them interact as friends since izutsumi is in desperate need of disciple and self control whereas falin wants to learn what she wants.

favorite thing about them

honestly just his whole arc being a pretty blatant abuse/depression metaphor combined with like. some of the most realistic disabled writing ive seen in fantasy. like i remember reading dunmeshi for the first time and pogging about seeing a character with ptosis because i NEVER see that shit outside of my own ocs and also some of the stuff discussed about him like. having a weird sense of direction (which is partially bc of dungeon lord business but also iirc he is stated to have weird walking/gesture patterns so!) and not really being aware of his own energy or triggers.... like it hits very close to home for me as a chronically fatigued guy with bad balance and bad eyesight and its just really nice to see someone like me portrayed in like. a way which doesnt exaggerate mithrun's disability as laughable or tragic in a very unsympathetic way. like the way the canaries accommodate him and the way his arc finishes up (+ the little chats he has with marcille....) i think its very sweet very comforting. ive just been very into him recently after like. coming to terms with being abused by an ex and going through the whole rollercoaster of emotions that comes with that. like. ughhh. i saw this thread recently and it keeps swimming around in my mind. its good

i guess like the dude's bigotry but considering other chapters in the adventurer's bibble he seems to be self aware of it? its kind of an unexplored facet of him altogether.... and at the same time i think it informs a lot of like. the inherent supremacist ideas elf culture harbors.

It's actually kinda hard bc there's not a lot of characters I really hate that I can think of off the top of my head bc I blank them out from memory to not think about them. Ill try to find reasons for this one tho

-I do like his design. I'll always be weak for a long hair anime swordman obviously

-I like how silly he is,, I mean all characters from this manga are silly but he has some pretty silly faces

-Uhm...Uhhh...I like his group of retainers //not even really about him lol

I did like Shuro initially, but after that confrontation with Laios he really rubbed me the wrong way. I do understand that it was most likely intentional but like...ough as someone who is neurodivergent herself, seeing him yell at him at Laios for not being able to read the signs and pick up on his mood is like. Dude seriously. That's what made you hate him. A situation that would not be a problem if you used your big boy words and expressed that to him instead of being passive aggressive. Do you think Falin would ever accept someone who treats her brother like this? Anyway I'm glad he no longer pursues her in the end bc she's better off with Marcille //hit
