The symbol, the 'S', is the House of El. It means 'hope'; embodied within that hope is the fundamental belief in the potential of every person to be a force for good. Sadly, not everyone will get it.

Game Night.
“It will be fun!!” Kara insisted ethunastically, placing several bags of groceries on her kitchen island. She had never hosted such a large group for game night and she wanted to make sure it went well. The last thing she wanted to do was run out of food. The food was the best part in her opinion.  “Of all games, Trivia Pursuit will definitely show everyone's true colors.” Alex smirked, popping a chip into her mouth as she leaned on the island. Her sarcasm was clear as day. Kara’s eyes rolled, “Real funny, Alex. Now, would you please help me instead of eating all the food before game night even begins!” Kara snapped. Alex threw a chip at Kara before following her little sister's demand.  A friendly game night with those that she loved. Just a group of friends enjoying a Friday night, especially with Alex, Talia, Susan, Winn and James in play.
____
“I put all of the questions in a bowl!” A quick adjustment of her glasses assured that before she continued, “Of course the teams are: Alex and myself. Talia and Susan. Winn and James.” Kara spoke, “Are we ready?”
Nods of heads allowed the game to begin. Kara grabbed a piece of paper out of the bowl, reading over it first before looking at Winn and James who won the draw to go first. “This sports team was the first to win three National Championships in football.”
Winn looked at James expectantly. “You do not know this do you?” James questioned his friend who frantically shook his head, “I do not watch sports!” Winn panicked. James laughed before nodding, “Metropolis Meteors!” James answered immediately after hesitation.
Kara raised a brow in surprise, “Correct!”
Winn excitedly bounced in his seat and gave James a high five. “Okay, Talia and Susan..” James spoke, letting them be the second ones to chime in, “At what temperature does water freeze?” He questioned them, his fingers tapped the paper in his hands.
“Oh. oh, oh, oh!!” Winn raised his hand making Kara glare at him, “Dude, let them have a chance to answer.” Kara reprimanded the eager in him. Both Talia and Susan chuckled at Winn and Kara. Talia munches on a chip really quickly, then looks at Susan,
“You want to say one and I say the other?” Talia asks Susan. Susan smiled and nodded, “Go for it,” she tells Talia.
Talia looked at everyone, “Well, that answer will be 32 degrees fahrenheit,” she answers.  Then Susan clears her throat, “Or if we’re going the Metric system, that answer will be 0 degrees Celsius. Now if we were talking about other worlds Mar-”  Talia cuts her off.
Kara’s eyes widened at the facts and she bit into the chip she held in her hands. Kara was impressive and also jealous of the facts Susan was currently spilling out into the playing field. The blonde's eyes narrowed competitively as she pushed her glasses further up the bridge of her nose.
“Susan, we’re talking about Earth, not Mars or Neptune or Tatooine. Okay?” Talia said. Susan smiled, “Sorry, couldn’t help it,” she says, then looks at everyone else before taking a bite of a chip. Talia nods then sticks her hand into the bowl and pulls out a question. “What month do people celebrate Halloween?” Talia asks. Susan smiled, “Ah Halloween…I love Halloween,” she says. Talia looks at Susan, “Just don’t get into the history of it…” “Don’t worry, I won't,”  Susan replied.
“October!!” Kara quickly shouted as she was eager to answer the question, but all eyes fell on her. Kara shrugged, taking a sip of her wine, “What? I love Halloween too.” She competitively teased with a smile.

You Are Not Alone.
One never realizes how much they truly miss someone when something happens, good or bad. And the only person they would want to tell is the one person that was no longer there. Alex Danvers was a loving and protective older sister. She was a beloved daughter. A friend. She was Kara’s whole world. Someone Kara looked up to even as Supergirl.
Yet, at this very moment - Alex was missing. The one person Kara needed in her life was gone.
Her arms pushed forward, using as much energy as she could. The wind whipping through her hair. Determined to figure out the truth. She had no clue how this happened or why, but Kara needed answers. Flying across Central City in a hurry, the only thing on her mind was her sister. She needed to find whoever took her sister before any more harm was done. Even though Alex was only human, she was one hell of a fighter. Alex had to hang on a little bit longer. She just had to.
Discreetly, Kara landed on her feet, fixing herself before quickly running into the building that housed Central City’s Police Department. With her CatCo ID badge, she quickly made her way through the building and to the only person she trusted within the CCPD. Detective Joe West. The man that treated Barry like his own son. The man who Barry swore Kara could trust if anything went wrong and he was unavailable.
Oh, how Kara wished she had her superfriend right now.
Everything was a blur. Kara was standing in a room with Joe as he spoke about the whereabouts of Alex. The last camera footage they had on her. What she was wearing. The reason she was in Central City. Everything swirled in her mind. The blonde reporter brought her slender digits up to the bridge of her nose, pinching it ever so lightly. Everything he was saying was too much. Kara could not live a life where her sister was not in it. She did not want to. Even superheroes have their weaknesses. Kryptonite may have been Supergirl's weakness, but losing her family was Kara’s weakness.
“Kara.. I know this is a lot to take in..” Joe’s voice was soothing. Almost like Jeremiah’s. Unfortunately, Jeremiah was lost and gone. Left for dead. But Joe was here. The one man Barry trusted more than anything. The one man she had gotten to know because of the West-Allen family. Someone who reminded her a lot like J’onn.
A friend. A mentor. A father figure.
Heavy tears formed in the blonde's eyes. Blurring her vision. The shake of her head was all she could muster. This was not supposed to be her life. She did not ask for this. Or did she? So much has changed. Kara was supposed to be a reporter at CatCo. And here she was, thrown into a whirlwind of lies, destruction, and utter agony. Kara had a love-hate relationship with karma. Ever since revealing herself to the National City, there had been nothing but havoc.
“I used to want to save the world…” Her voice was soft, quiet, and broken. Staring off into the distance. “To make a difference. To end the simplest of wars and bring peace to mankind..” Kara was hesitant. Her head shook as she took off her glasses. The one disguise that she had. Joe’s eyes went from her, to the paper in front of him. The click of the pen was all that was heard before he placed the pen down on the table. Simply listening to her. Pain and guilt filled the female, “I even glimpsed into the darkness that lives within the light… but only through the eyes of Cat Grant… How am I-?” Her breath was caught in her throat.
Kara was filled with self doubt. She had no idea how much pain both cities had endured since her arrival. Was it truly her fault? Did she truly cause devastation across National City? Did she truly become lost within herself? How could she possibly right the wrongs she had done? How could she save her own sister, especially in a city that was so foreign to her?
“Joe...” Green-blue optics moved to him; finally breaking. “I don't even know who took her… in- in Central City - a place for the Flash.. Not.. Supergirl..” Speechless and truly in shambles, Kara continued. “How am I supposed to continue being this hero.. When I do not even know if I am doing anything right to help my own sister?”
Joe’s eyes met hers. Finally, he stood, walking over to her. A small smile was planted on his face. At times like these, he learned to be the strong one. He had to hold it together so that those before him did not crumble beneath his feet. Kara was a lot like Barry and he admired her for that. No wonder they called each other superfriends. “The hardest thing you are going to face is not some monster out there with powers. It is going to be that feeling of uselessness when you cannot do anything alone…” He spoke, “You are not alone in this fight, Kara Danvers. You have me. You have Barry. You have the team.” A firm, but gentle hand was placed upon her shoulder.
“We will find your sister. We will bring Alex home. And that is one thing I can promise.”

A Shadow of Doubt.
Tumblr media
“Look in the mirror.” A shadow of doubt in her eyes. She stares into his, searching for any hint of insincerity and strangely there’s a great deal of distrust. It’s already been a hell of a day. There was a reason that she never wanted to come to Earth-1. And after a ridiculously long and not very pretty conversation, silence fell between Barry and Kara. Feelings of disappointment filled his eyes as fear filled hers. He did not trust her at this very moment and he had all the reasons not to, yet hearing those four simple words left her speechless. A trust fall that ultimately failed. Kara pretended not to be hurt, but Barry knew her too well. He saw right through her and she did not know if they could overcome this. Never mind that she had worked twice as hard the past few weeks alongside team flash in order to help them, only to be sucked into other wrongdoings to help keep him safe. Kara could feel her heart race in her chest and her mouth suddenly felt dry. She knew she needed to say something, but she never spoke more difficult words. Kara took a deep breath. A part of her wants to tell Barry the truth – that she would come to care for him, that he became someone very special to her, that she would do whatever it took to keep him and Earth-1 safe. That she does not want the kind of power over him that he might think. Barry shook his head, taking in the silence as the end of their conversation. Kara watched as he turned his back to her and began walking away. “Barry! Wait.. Please!!” Kara called out after him, quickly stepping forward, only to be remembered of the barrier that stood in between them. The meta-human cells within STAR Labs. A cell that kept the dangerous meta-humans from creating havoc throughout Central City. A barrier that stopped her from running after him. But, was she as distrustful as he may assume? Was he truly ready for the truth?

A cruel love triangle.
It’s completely natural for the girl of steel to feel defensive and afraid. She’s someone used to being indestructible and is told that the one thing that hurts her can now be created in a lab and is also stronger than normal. It’s not Kara’s fault that she’s on a planet that gives her these powers, and she certainly does not behave with a god complex because if she did she would not mind killing if necessary and would expect people to worship her.
Then again, having kryptonite in front of her, feeling like nails in her blood, would feel much better than the feeling she was consumed with now. Distrust. Pain. Jealousy. All those emotions of an emotional girl came to the surface. All because of him. The butterflies she got in her stomach every single time she was next to him. Those moments where she could not wait to jump to another earth just to partner up with him. Not just as two heroes, but as friends. And the annoyance she got by having to move on from him to forget those feelings.
Instead, watching him with her absolutely boogled her mind. The emotions running through her was never pleasant when she saw him with her. The way they held hands. The laughter between the two. The never-ending motto of her being his lightning rod. Yet, he felt the same about Kara. There were moments between Barry and Kara that were sweet and adoring. Moments where she could keep him in her heart until she died. Deep down he felt the same, but Iris was always stuck in the middle.
A cruel love triangle.
Kara stood in the circle of their friends and family. Listening to Joe’s speech about Barry and Iris. They all came together to celebrate the love between the two. The wedding rehearsal dinner of a true love story. Though to Kara, it was a true disaster. Especially when she tried getting over her feelings for him with Mon-El. Which helped over time, but the problems she was currently facing were worse. The blindsiding life event that Mon-El dropped matched the events she was currently at.
Her breath was caught in her throat momentarily, watching the toast go on for the engaged couple. Her optics scanned around her, watching as various glasses raised up in the air. Kara slowly and quickly raised her glass. Alex nudged her with a happy go-lucky grin. A grin that Kara knew far too well that Alex was drinking way too much. Kara gave her a small smile before taking a few strides backwards. The blonde disappeared into the shadows. For a mere minute, Kara’s breath was back. The blonde stood on the balcony overlooking the gathering of people. She was not feeling very social. Except for when he appeared. “Hey.” His soft voice snuck up behind her. Kara did not move an inch to look in his direction until Barry stood next to her. Her eyes met his. The butterflies returned. Her nervous laugh returned, “Hey..this is really nice. Thanks for having us.”
The scarlet speedster smiled, holding onto his champagne glass. His brown hues stayed on her before looking over the balcony, rambling onto what seemed like off topic as to why he really came up here, “Of course. Um - by the way your sister seems to be tipping the elbow pretty heavy.” Both Barry and Kara watched Alex downing yet another shot of vodka. A genuine laugh fell from the girl of steel’s lips, “Oh that's fine. She's just had a rough go lately and she's not the only one.” A small sigh was made.
The boy’s eyes fell upon the girl. He knew something was wrong. He noticed how she was avoiding him. She knew this was hard on her. Kara and Barry were best friends. Their relationship may have been short compared to everyone else here, but he knew. Deep down he wished he could change things, “I noticed you do not have your plus one with you.” Barry stated the obvious, causing Kara’s shoulders to raise, “I am plus zero these days.” A frown fell on his face. She did not have to be. Kara was gorgeous as hell. It was his fault, really. Though he never acted upon his feelings and now they were celebrating his wedding rehearsal dinner, “I’m sorry, what happened with Mon-El?”
Kara’s eyes looked anywhere but at him. “What didn't happen… The end of the world.”
“Faced that three times.”
“Time travel.”
“I've been there a lot.”
This one broke her. This one was supposed to help her get over her feelings for him. “He’s married to someone else.”
Barry’s eyes widened. His heart broke for Kara. “Oh that's … I got nothing for that. I'm sorry.”
“I mean it's my own fault.. I keep forgetting that my life should only be about Supergirl, but then life keeps finding a way to remind me.”
A brief silence fell upon the superfriends. His eyes never left her, but her eyes were on the floor. Something inside of him wanted to hold her. He wanted to tell her that everything will be okay, but it felt wrong. Something inside of him wanted to tell her how he felt, but he could not do that to Iris. Kara on the other hand was feeling all sorts of emotions, but never really said anything. Screw it. His eyes quickly scanned around them. Everyone was distracted, happy, laughing, drinking. This would be the perfect moment. He needed to let Kara know how he felt. Kara may need to do the same. Barry quickly grabbed a hold of his superfriends shoulders before speeding them off somewhere else.
In almost a blur, she was no longer at the dinner rehearsal. The blonde regained balance as she quickly looked around them. “What the-!” Was all she said as she now stood on the roof of one of the tallest skyscrapers that overlooked Central City. Though the brunette boy was not next to her. She quickly spun around and noticed his back was turned towards her, “Barry!”
Silence.
Until he slowly turned to face her.
“Stuck in a moment. The way your eyes hit the light.” His voice was soft as his hand moved from the back of his head to his pants pocket. Was he really singing right now? Yes. Yes, he was. “I never seem to see it right. Your head is tortured. Because she is perfect for me. What have I done? I can't believe it.” Barry slowly made his way towards Kara, standing only six feet from her.
Kara stayed silent, not saying a word. She watched him. His voice, his body language, his emotions; they all came to the surface and she could see it. There it was. Her breath was caught in her throat as her green-blue optics stayed on him. Were they really doing this now? Of all days? Barry continued to sing, “It would be so nice to wake up next to you, ohh.. but you never fall asleep.” Kara’s eyes glanced off into the distance, before looking back at him, “Kara.. your bed is a bullet. And I'm not bulletproof..”
The feelings inside of Kara intensified along with Barry’s. Both of them needed this moment, but never really could act upon it. Scared and afraid of what may come. Yet, what better way to solve this than a song? Classic Barry and Kara moment. Kara herself matched the harmony to his. “I want him, she wants him. He wants her. The love triangle stuck in our heads.” Kara sang softly as Barry watched her. Kara was anxious and had a nervous feeling in her stomach. “I'm not that pretty, but I'm the only one who makes you happy, happy, happy.” Kara and Barry both sang, “I will make you happy, happy, happy.”
Kara stepped forward, closing the gap between the two. Her eyes stayed on him, looking upward just an inch. “I will make you happy. Until I die, I swear.” She sang softly, matching Barry’s harmony as he sang, “I'll keep you safe till the end. Until I die, I swear. But will you love me till the end?” Their gaze never left each other as their bodies pressed up against one another.
In one single moment, there was nothing but the two of them. Barry’s hand made its way to her face, caressing her cheek gently. Kara’s hand grabbed a fistful of his shirt pulling him towards her. Their lips gently pressing together. This was the moment they both had waited so long for. To feel each other in a sexual way. Both of their eyes closed for a minute as they shared a long-lasting yet lust filled kiss. The kiss was filled with so much intensity that both Kara and Barry did not want it to end. Their lips moved in perfect rhythm. Orange hues and lights surrounded the two. Everything around them stood in slow motion while Barry and Kara only felt each other. Both of Barry’s hands were placed gently upon Kara’s cheeks while hers rested on his chest. A fistful of his shirt in one of her hands. Kissing each other passionately. Barry had used the speed force to slow down time while they continued to move.
Pulling away from each other, their foreheads were touching. Silence once again fell upon them. Barry and Kara had enough courage to trust love one more time and always one more time. Sometimes two people have to fall apart to realize how much they need to fall back together. Kara’s eyes looked around and noticed the speed force around them before she looked at Barry. Barry smiled at her, adoring the small excitement she had about the speedforce. Yet, her next question was nothing related to such a thing. This time, fear overwhelmed the girl of steel.
“Barry. What do we do?”
