So you wanna adopt?
A lot of professional hockey teams are adopting animals and bringing them onto their teams. My friends and I are completing some research on the online presence of one of the most popular adoption agencies; The Ontario SPCA. Have you heard of them?
Take a look below at some of my findings.
INTRODUCING THE SPCA....
Established in 1973, the Ontario SPCA is known for their uniqueness amongst animal welfare organizations in Ontario. The Ontario SPCA provides programing and resources that is focused on providing for animal welfare; sheltering, health & wellness, spay/neuter services, animal rescue & relief, animal advocacy, indigenous partnership programs and humane education. The Ontario SPCA responds to 50 communicates across the province, making it one of the largest, most responsive organization in the Nation. The Ontario SPCA is responsible to maintain and enforce animal welfare legislation in Ontario, in accordance with receiving authority under the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. The SPCA is recognized for their difference making abilities in animal welfare. More specifically, they promote human-animal interaction and are recognized for their essential volunteerism and support.

WHAT ABOUT ONLINE MEDIA PRESENCE?
It was found that the Ontario SPCA tends to stick to a traditional marketing plan when advertising to their audiences. While this has its benefits, it may not be the most modern approach to take while advertising. In comparison, The Dodo which is an organization that is committed to sharing animal stories to tap into human emotions as a way to engage and motivate people about caring for animals. The Dodo uses a digital marketing approach to pull in their audiences. While their purposes differ from on another, they are both about the caring for animals. The Ontario SPCA takes a more professional approach as a way to run a business. While this has many benefits to it, their social media presence on platforms such as Instagram and twitter could benefit though the use of digital marketing methods.
SO WHAT?
THIS IS BORING :’( :’(
I KNOW RIGHT...
The SPCA tends to stick to a traditional media approach where they are about connecting to their supporters using mass marketing. This is illustrated through the way their website is designed as well as how they have utilized their Instagram.
BUT our friends from “The Dodo”..
The Dodo has utilized a more modern approach on their website through use of “GIFS” and Search Engine Optimization (we know all about SEO’s).
IS IT TOO MUCH??
While “The Dodo” relies on colour, this may come as a strength for the Ontario SPCA. Their website is not overly colourful and stimulating, which for some viewers could be too much. However, as mentioned previously if they want to expand their audience, they should try to incorporate modern-day social media trends such as ‘GIFS’ and individual stories to connect to the viewers heartstrings.

Don’t be late for a game ever again...
Have you ever feared traffic to be the reason that you do not make it to your game on time? What about a car accident on the road? Have you ever come across unexpected construction that added on two hours of driving time?
I have come across a mobile app known as “waze.” This app allows users to see whats happening, get them there faster and to always FIO (figure it out).
Don’t laugh Sid this a serious manner.

HI EVERYONE!
I am making my very first tumblr post. This is my first time every using this platform and I hope while enrolled in this class I can learn more about it and reaching important people! The class that I am enrolled in is titled “WRIT 240: Writing for Social Media and the Web.” I have decided to enrol in this course in hopes of learning how to better articulate my arguments for specific audiences through social media.
Currently, I am in my 5th year of studies at Queen's University while being an active member of our Women’s Varsity Hockey Team. In my five years I have attended two University Sport National Championships, where 8 of the Nation’s best women's hockey teams in University Sport are competing for the ultimate title of “Champions.” From my experience I began to wonder why not only these championships weren't being televised but other female hockey championships were not. These include but are not limited to championships like the U18 Women’s Hockey championships and U22 4-Nations Cup which is typically overshadowed by the World Juniors.
I believe that there is an underrepresentation of female athletics in the media. Specifically, one of our countries most played sport ice hockey. More specifically, women’s hockey in Canada is not given enough attention given the talent that each individual brings to the game. Not only that, but there is also a misrepresentation. It is not rare for some sport broadcasters to use words towards female athletes that may categorize them based on their gender.
Sports coverage platforms such as Rogers Sportsnet and TSN have underrepresented female ice hockey for years. While I give them credit for their acknowledgement of failure through their attempt to advertise this years 2019 Canadian Womens Hockey League (CWHL) all-star game. It is merely a trial to see if their will be enough interest to pursue full time opportunities.
I hope throughout the semester I can further expand on my belief. I wish to be pointed in the direction of someone else who believes and has a passion for the same topic. Lastly, I am hoping that my voice can be heard and appreciated for these topics.
