Gonna be honest here—I've looked through AO3 trying various searches but all I'm getting is single dad Stede (and Ed step-dadding) or single cat dad Ed.

Season Three Cancellation
In case you haven't heard, OFMD was not picked up for season three at Max. There is a major fan campaign going to try to change this.
Please sign the petition and call (855) 442-6629 to provide feedback to Max regarding this decision. The phone line is active 24/7. There is info pointing to diversity-related criticism for cancelling the show being given high weight as well.
Fandom will always be here. We won't be going anywhere. But wouldn't it be nice if the story got to be told the way David Jenkins intended?

hi there, im in a rough spot rn and was wondering if there's anything out there where Ed is a drug addict/alcoholic? would prefer it to be about drug addiction but will read either. also either canon or au, doesn't matter to me. thank you.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of fics with this focus in mind, rather there's a lot with it as a background. So I am reccing the closest thing I have found:

Stede fell in love with Ed the day they met, the moment the man walked into Stede’s newly opened bakery and breathed reverently, “Holy shit, this is fucking insane.”
The only hitch? Stede is pretty sure Ed is married and off-limits.

Hello! Your ask made me think of Celestial Bodies by Skrifores, which has been removed from the archive by the author. This doesn't quite fit though, so I looked through the science fiction tag in the fandom on AO3 and found one singular fic tagged virtual reality - could you be thinking of the archive-locked Elysium by Prismaticwitch? I have not personally read this fic, so I don't know how well it fits what you are looking for.

Happy OFMDMotiMarch! Today is March 22: Olu Wednesday!
OFMDMotiMarch is a month long fandom celebration. It is not exclusively focused on the creation of new fanworks. I had the loftiest of goals to post recs routinely throughout this month but alas, life. Regardless! We press on!
Trouble Me Always: Being A True Chronicle of the Early Deeds of Oluwande Boodhari, Outlaw Shipwright by zmayhem [T], 30k Oluwande-focused backstory featuring Jim, Spanish Jackie, and a splash of magical realism
A young sailor with no idea which end is up needs a good mentor, and Oluwande Boodhari's first true captain knows just who to send him to.
This fic from early last summer (end of May, beginning of June) swept in with a fantastic imagining of how Oluwande and Jim met and how Oluwande knew Spanish Jackie and has taken up residence in my brain ever since. If a fic doesn't include its own world-building backstory for these three, I mentally fill in this fic without noticing I'm doing so. It has completely filled that vacuum left by canon. This fic is absolutely my headcanon for pre-S1 events for Oluwande and Jim. If canon can have crocs Ed can suck Stede's cock it can have magical realism.

Look, as much as I love Ed and Stede and reading about them falling in love over and over and over in all sorts of different situations... Jim and Oluwande are fucking amazing too!! This exemplary “bit of fanfiction” comes to us courtesy of the 2022 @ofmdbigbang. This fic has everything: Frenchie focus with backstory; rare pairs; tropes on tropes on tropes; a My Immortal reference; meta fanfiction references; Vine references; symbolically significant strawberries before The Last Of Us made us all cry over strawberries; mysterious seagulls… Seriously, everything. This fic will make you laugh, make you cry, make you squirm, and make you hot under the collar. It is phenomenal. I don’t often reread fics (stares at firehose of thousands of fics) but I have now read this at least three times and it’s hit me just as hard each time. The quality of writing is absolutely superb and the content is incredible. If you haven’t read it yet (the Big Bang was a little overwhelming! Kinktober came right on its heels! easy to get lost in the sauce!) you are in for a major treat, and if you have read it let’s be honest with each other: a reread would not go astray.
What better way to kick off con weekend than with a fic that celebrates fandom so gloriously?

We're also not sure if you have read these before, because we started our hunt in some predictable tags (sex pollen, fuck or die, bad guys made them do it, etc). You didn't include omegaverse in your trope list, but some has been included here because heats provide a lot of fodder for this type of dubcon. Izzy, who's wearing a fucking collar now; shiny, good quality leather, wide and thick and cleverly made, though the craftsmanship doesn't do anything to disguise the fact that it's locked shut.
