I wish it was more acceptable in fandom for Snape to just have poor hygiene. Why can't his hair just be greasy instead of it being a hair serum or from potions? It's not... He's been greasy since he was a neglected child. Maybe bad hygiene makes him seem less appealing but it makes the most sense.
It tracks not only because he's so busy he barely has time to sleep, not only because JKR (sorry to mention her I hate her) said he doesn't take care of himself, but it tracks too perfectly with his history too, and even the fact he wears layers and buttoned up clothing. He is walking unresolved trauma and he's just trying to survive his life and keep his promise.
Being physically vulnerable has never been safe.
Ouch ouch ouch.
