More stories from hell (retail) today I was ringing up this lady and she goes oh I want to do part of this on a gift card and the rest on normal card and I go ok and then she hands me a folded piece of paper. I think oh OK it must be folded around the gift card, right? Wrong. It is a folded sheet of 8×11 printer paper with "$40" written on the inside in ballpoint pen. I go what is this. She says a gift card. I say this is not a gift card. She says yes it is. I say this is a piece of paper with "$40" written on it. She says "well it's a gift card." I say it absolutely is not. I am grinding my teeth. She says well I want to use it. I say you physically cannot do that bc it is a piece of paper. I cannot scan or swipe it. I apologize, as if this is my fault, and not because she is completely insane. I hate it here

My face is having uncontrollable spasms. Great. It hurts really, really, really bad.
I think part of why I have trouble explaining pain to the doctor is when they ask about the pain scale I always think “Well, if someone threw me down a flight of stairs right now or punched me a few times, it would definitely hurt a lot more” so I end up saying a low number. I was reading an article that said that “10” is the most commonly reported number and that is baffling to me. When I woke up from surgery with an 8" incision in my body and I could hardly even speak, I was in the most horrific pain of my life but I said “6” because I thought “Well, if you hit me in the stomach, it would be worse.”

Attention College Alums - You Can Help Pro-Palestinian Student & Faculty Protestors by Writing Your Schools
Friendly reminder that alumni can support student and faculty pro-Palestine protestors by writing your schools, canceling alumni memberships or donations (check where your money is going at least), and boycotting athletic events and school merch. Most colleges, universities, and alumni associations have an easy to locate "contact us" link on their home page. Bonus if you use your school email address to send the note because then they know you're really an alum.
Here's a sample email you're welcome to copy:
Dear (Members of the Board, School President, Dean, Alumni Association, Etc),
I am writing today as a (school name) alumni to express my support for the pro-Palestinian student protestors. As an American and an alumnus, I am horrified by the school's use of law enforcement violence to silence these students' constitutionally protected free speech and right to protest. Further, I cannot support the decision to (suspend, expel, evict) these students for participating in these protests and demand that the students be allowed to return to their housing and have their (enrollment and financial aid reinstated, suspension lifted).
The International Court of Justice, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and many other reputable human rights organizations have condemned the ongoing atrocities that the State of Israel is committing in Gaza, where Israel has killed more than 33,000 people and injured over 78,000; where the state of Israel uses internationally banned weapons such as white phosphorus which additionally cause longterm harm to the environment; where the state of Israel targets protected individuals including medical staff, journalists and aid workers; and where the state of Israel continues to block desperately needed humanitarian aid from entering the strip. By materially or verbally supporting the state of Israel, (school) is also supporting these horrific acts. As an alumnus, I cannot stand for that.
On these grounds, I demand the (school) board of directors to immediately divest from any support of the state of Israel. If (school) continues to suppress students' constitutionally protected rights and continues to support the state of Israel, I will cancel my membership in the (school) alumni association and end my financial support of the school and it's athletic programs. Further, I will encourage my large network of personal and professional peers to do the same.
Sincerely,
(Name)
(College) Class of (Year)

The US single-handedly blocked the UN from recognizing Palestine by vetoing a draft resolution in the Security Council that recommended that “the State of Palestine be admitted to membership of the UN.” With 12 council members voting yes, a clear majority voted in favor; only the UK and Switzerland abstained.
Meanwhile, 139 of the 193 UN member states already recognize Palestine, virtually all of the world safe for the Global North and its closest allies.
Even in the EU, several countries are set to recognize Palestine soon. Since 2012, the Palestinians have been a non-member observer state to the UN, a de facto recognition of statehood granted by the UN General Assembly.
However, the Security Council and then at least two-thirds of the General Assembly must approve an application to become a full member of the world body.
The Palestinian push for full membership came six months into Israel’s devastating war of extermination against the Gaza Strip, and as Israel is expanding settlements in the occupied West Bank, which the UN already considers to be illegal.

For fans of Chevalier D'Eon and Julie d'Aubigny, If It Please the Court is out now! Sapphic romance, surveillance, and swordplay is the name of the game as you infiltrate 18th century Versailles, spying for the legendary Secret du Roi.

Empower the crown, subvert the king, or betray France to its enemies.
Reunite your family, expose your father’s past, or sever all ties.
Take a slow-burn path for romance or cut to the chase with seduction.
