head up if you don’t want tumblrs partnered ai companies automatically scraping your blog for image datasets, you need to manually opt out.
You can’t do this in the app rn (apparently you can but I couldn’t find it so you might have to update), only the desktop version or web browser on your phone. It will also need to be done for every sideblog you have.
You find it by opening up your blog settings > scroll down to visibility > prevent third party sharing
As an aside, I’d thoroughly recommend opting out of having your blog scraped, even if you’re not an artist. Afaik Tumblr hasn’t explicitly stated which companies they’ll be partnering with, but the vagueness of that wording is really alarming.
These datasets use a lot of selfies for photorealistic results, moderation of who has access to these datasets is notoriously ass, and a lot of AI engines are being used to generate pornography and racist imagery (you can see this rn with the rise of ai generated propaganda). While ‘your likeness is used in an awful generated image without your consent’ IS a worst case scenario, it’s a really upsetting one. Protect yourselves.

What is this about the tumblr staff wanting to sell art data to midjourney?
An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don't have any more info. They probably won't have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:
I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.
Tumblr's CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and 'AI' companies.
A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data... tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)
So I don't have any extra info yet, but I'm keeping my ears open.

posting here as well since this is my main account
Due to some technical difficulties with my old laptop, my hard drive as well as all of my art on it have been lost. I'm working to see if I have any options to retrieve the files but in the meantime, my art blogs are going to be on a temporary hiatus. Whether or not I get them back wont have any barring on my return, but for the time being, the stress has been too much, and I need time to myself.
Hoping for the recovery to go well but if not, I'll need time to come back from the loss.

Just wanna add I don't think you have to "excuse" a m/f ship by saying "They could be bi/pan/ect" that shouldn't matter. People are shipping for fun here, there doesn't need to be an excuse just because you only want to accept a ship that isn't "heterosexual". Just mind your business if you don't like it, no one's forcing you to be here.
Also, complaining "Why can't males and females just be friends" is dumb lol, like does anyone realize like 9/10 the female in the group is friends with more than just the shipping partner?
Also, who cares?
you are allowed to dislike m/f ships, but:
don’t make every m/f ship you don’t like out to be ‘abusive’ or ‘problematic’ for nonsensical reasons that hold no ground
don’t accuse shippers of ‘making the characters straight’ when the characters could easily be bisexuals
similarly, don’t refer to m/f ships as ‘straight’ when one or both characters are confirmed to be bisexual
don’t get so mad about people putting canonically bi characters in m/f ships
don’t say that everyone who likes m/f ships must be heterosexual
don’t accuse shippers of m/f ships of being homophobic for putting a character that is part of a popular fanon same-sex ship in a m/f ship
don’t go into m/f ship tags to talk about how you don’t like it
