Hey! Happy New Year! I love your content btw and I was wondering did you draw the braid base at the scalp in your Basil braids? Not the braids themselves but like the way the parts are so nice and neat. Or if you didn't draw them where did you find them? Thanks for your help!
happy new year to you too anon! i'll put my explanation under the cut but in short i didn't *draw* the scalp myself but like frankensteined the texture together using blender!
the technique i used was inspired by some of the alpha braids that i've seen (think ebonixsims). if you look at their meshes, the parts aren't textured onto the sim but like meshed parts of the alpha hair. so i created a scalp mesh using the texture from the bg twist hair we got in an SDX to get this
(this took a lot of trial and error, i heavily referenced those brick-laying patterns braiders put out to come up with a reasonable layout. i used the shrinkwrap modifier to get my own mesh *on* the scalp)
i then texture baked by meshed scalp onto the ea head to get my texture. next, i blended my baked texture with the parts from that one growing together updo to get a more interesting look? idk mostly to get the hairline to look cute
⬑ how the parts looked after baking + blending
tbh i was motivated to make my own braid base to free myself from the inconsistent parts in the br*ndysims/savvysweet/qicc/enriques4 braid base 😭😭 but yeah that's how i made the parts and definitely feel free to reach out w/ any questions or use the parts from my basil braids in your own hairs!

somehow managed to mess up the specular map in between taking preview pics and uploading causing white spots around the hairline on basil braids v2, please redownload if this is an issue for you!
