An oldie, but a goodie.
Found this KCOU radio station poster in the archives from February 2016. I loved working on this request because the client came with an idea and tons of inspiration, which made things so easy and fun to create that the client and I both agreed on. If you’re ever asking a graphic designer for something, the best thing you can do is come with ideas, tons of examples (pictures, actual objects, etc) and an open ear to hear what the designer thinks. There are a few things I would change looking at this now, but I think this is worth the post.

I’ve been MIA for a little bit, but hopefully this keeps you waiting. This is for an internship I’m currently applying for. Tell me what you think!

NABJ shenanigans. It took about 2 ½ hours for all 3 fliers, done on Illustrator. Talk about timing progress!

Sometimes life gives you lemons. You’re supposed to make something out of them, right? Have you ever achieved something, but know you want something more out of it? 2015 made me realize I need to take bigger steps. I accomplish a lot, from graphic design skills to taking leadership roles. The moments that impacted me the most were the ones I had a full vision for and didn’t let anything affect it. I let myself be happy and got what I wanted. 100% me. Unfortunately there were a lot of things I didn’t do to that standard, resulting in being unhappy. My unhappiness always revolved around judging my actions instead of doing something about them or being concerned about how others saw me instead of myself.
Well... I don’t care anymore about what anyone has to say. 2016 is dedicated to me (LOL, but really). Being yourself is not called “being conceited”. It’s about being happy. This is going to be the year of Seinga getting her groove back. The year of understanding who Seinga is. I hope this newfound happiness also makes others find their own happiness. I’ve been so used to blending in with the crowd and keeping to myself. It’s time to be loving, bold and true.
It’s also time to step outside the box, creatively. This is the year of establishing my brand. I’d love to explore photography, sketch more and blend both of those activities with my graphic design skills.
I pray that I look back to this post and say I’m happy with myself.

Resume check.
It's internship application season and the resume design requests are in. To me, designing resumes are fun because you get to establish a visual to a person's personality. It's also tricky due to the amount of information they need to hold. As I work my way through these emails, here are some useful design tips.
If your client does not give you specific design ideas or examples, ask them for three adjectives that describe who they are. Usually with that, plus reading the information/copy they give you, they should give you a good start. Taking a look at their social media accounts is also a good indicator of pinpointing personality.
Be open to new inspiration you may find on the way that makes it more personable. (Yes, that may mean a design change.) It's different if a client wants their resume to look a certain way, but as the designer, the client came to you (the expert) for advice on what looks good. As long as your design has meaning, the client will connect more to it (aka, their brand made visual). And if a client just wants something exactly how they present it, then just do it their way. No need to worry.
Simplicity is key. One thing that makes resumes a pain to look at is if there's no space on the page. I'm not just talking about having lots of information on the page, but a resume design does not have to take up every inch of the page. Personally, I think white space is the most powerful element you can use in design. I love how it can make something look very clean that actually has a lot of words. It's pleasing to the eye and is definitely recommended to use when working on these projects.

Christmas was here. So were ugly sweaters.
Ugly Christmas sweaters are common around this time of the year. Christmas sweater party fliers are somewhat common too. After asked to create a Christmas party flier + googling Christmas sweater fliers + being given Drake and Santa pictures to use, my first ugly Christmas sweater flier was made, and it was actually fun to do.
Don't think the patterns were hard to make! Be creative and use what's given to you! The decorative elements were mostly keyboard symbols using one of the christmas fonts below (I also edited a few to add color, etc.). The circle pattern surrounding Drake was also an easy 3 minute task. Just create two lines of small circles and then copy & paste the lines next to each other, forming a pattern.
Fonts I used?
Christmas Jumper & LL Xmas (both from dafont.com.)
Happy Holidays!
