Ranpo is incredibly kind and charismatic to go with his intellect but y’all ain’t ready to have that conversation
All jokes aside
Ranpo helped yosano greatly with how she dealt with her past and trauma. Both fukuzawa and yosano saved her by helping remove her from the mafia and importantly mori but ranpo invited her to the agency and pointed out how she had kindness in her reassured her that she was a good person and told her their was worth to all the suffering she enduring. This helped her to move on.
In the light novel we see how fukuzawa and ranpo net and it’s pointed out how fukuzawa saves ranpo but I feel like it misses the point. Fukuzawa saved ranpo but ranpo also saved fukuzawa. Ranpo was alone and homeless with no one to turn to and fukuzawa and him met when ranpo went to a job interview but the guy got killed and ranpo solved the murder, fukuzawa was hired by the guy as a bodyguard. Fukuzawa gets ranpo lunch he asks for help, he tries to help ranpo get a job at a theatre a actor dies ranpo solves it then gets kidnapped and nearly shot but saved by fukuzawa. Along the way the ability user thing came up because ranpo is incredibly intelligent but wasn’t told so as a child to protect him and his parents planned it out to tell him later it seems but they died before that happened. Ranpo didn’t understand anyone because what was common sense to him took a lot of effort for a normal person so him was lost and confused as to why. So to help him fukuzawa told him the lie of him being a ability user.
That’s how fukuzawa saves ranpo.
Fukuzawa has formerly been an assassin for the government like fukuchi and had stepped back because he wanted to stop killing people in such away. He was resistant to ranpo at first but he needed help so he agreed to help him. Fukuzawa has previous be in a bad business and wanted to move on from it the problem was that while he had change professions I got the impression he was letting his past define him and mentally hasn’t moved on from it. Kept to himself and isolated and still in a combative violent career the book calls him someone who could never imagine having comrades or subordinates (and we know how imports that is to his ability) ranpo helped to actually move on from his past.
Ranpo helped yosano and fukuzawa start to heal as he’s kind and intelligent and charismatic and as a non combative Type character he represent peace in their lives that they so desperately needed. In shows in how close his relationships with both of the are and it’s one of the reason he’s so respected by those around him. Being smart is all fine but he uses his intellect to HELP people.
To clarify he is helping them heal but not the sole reason they’ve been able to move forward you can only do that if your own merits and that’s due to yosano and fukuzawa’s strength on their own and shouldn’t b discredited even if ranpo has positive effects on their lives that helped them with that
A thing I feel nobody ever notices about Ranpo is that he's actually one of the kindest people in the entirety of BSD. He acts playful and teasing but never in a way that's hurtful or degrading. When he confronts Chuuya, we can tell his taunts towards him differ from if they were in a casual situation. Even when dealing with police officers who tend to not take him seriously, he never comes off as more than annoying. He's canonically the most intelligent person in BSD and can tell a person's entire backstory in a glance but never judges them or treats them differently due to their past, on focusing on their present. He acts arrogant and yet is never too prideful to admit when he messes up or is at an disadvantage.
There are so many instances of Ranpo being kind-hearted. He's extremely caring of the ADA members as evident when he comforts Kunikida during Cannibalism and doesn't judge for breaking down or pressure him into letting the incident go. When he first met Yosano, he understands her grief and pain and reassures her that her ability and past do not matter to them because her heart is kind.
He even befriends Poe despite the fact he was previous aiming to harm him and subtly reassures him of his own skills.
When Ranpo confronts Oguri with the manuscript, Oguri sees him as a demon comparable to Fyodor. But we see Ranpo putting a comforting hand on Oguri's head and Fyodor's image becomes distorted signifying how Ranpo may have acted like Fyodor but could never be him. He also later both offers Oguri a job which would also promise him safety from Fyodor and burns the manuscript.
Just... I could go all day about this.
TL;DR: If I hear one more wrong take about Ranpo being an asshole or generally mean or uncaring towards both ADA and non-ADA members, I will riot.

I was unironically a mythology kid but like in a way that had nothing to do with Percy Jackson. I had no idea the series existed till mid-late teens
so everyone was either a space, dinosaur or greek/egyptian mythology kid, right?

Translation: @ce-la Raws: @bsdanthology Typesetting: Me!
We’re back with another one! We both put extra thought and care into this one. We both like Ranpo and Fukuzawa, and this is one of my favourite Anthology chapters! I like all of them though.
If you haven’t checked it out yet, please check out this live recording that I just got of my composition! It’s inspired by BSD (with more details within the post).
EDIT: Ce-la noticed some errors I made with the sound effect translations. Those have been changed!

Ok I just caught back up in the bungou stray dogs manga.
Read from chapter 73-91 took a while but
I LOVE this series any everyone who isn’t reading it is missing out.
Also the anime does the art style little but everyone who the corrupt scene comparison knows this.
akutagawa has never been one of my faves but .., I love ... this omfg. (Not spoiling tho) his characters development and everything was wonderful
Also his paternship with atsushi was just great and this isn’t even a ship thing it’s just them as the second generation of soukoku was great. When they brought up the original soukoku and started strategising, also I found myself wondering how they’d fight him but the development and end with these two was wonderful and tragic.
Also ranpo is a bamf and the powerful person in this series (my personal opinion) prove me wrong. he will defeat with nothing but his intellect.? Also ranpo winning over everyone saying he isn’t criminal when he defends was literally “am I dumb enough to get caught like this” was just wonderful and like that works you know it works and it’s believable because ranpo’s just that smart and he wins over like 30% of the police force that way. You go baby. Also his interactions with po and fukuzawa when explain the plan were adorable.
The introduction of bram stroker? The vampires? I love it. Every time you wake him up from his coffin he’s like how long have I slept like a dramatic goth vampire that he his. I love and fear this man.
Tachihara love of my life whom I would die for? You did so well even if it didn’t work well. I’m just so impressed by him ok. Great character loved the complexity to his interactions with the other and his fight with fukichi? Great every thing was great. Also his interactions with teruko were great too.
Also I’m kinda sympathetic towards fukuchi because Yh he’s trying to destroy everything and his ideals are kinda whack but like I get it. He has been fights ability users in wars for most his life and his body has been restructured and he’s been had to kill and torture. We’ve seen him in two serious fights so far and both times he says he doesn’t take pleasure from it and he wants to destroy nations to destroys wars (which won’t work because you’ll stop death in war for nations but death for chaos for individuals will replace it) like this dude obviously has some ptsd but like I still hate him for what he’s doing. Framing the agency and trying to destroy everything also the fear at how strong he is? The betrayal of ranpo and fukuzawa? Overall a great villain. Also the angels being politicos because of how they’re actions cause wars that they never have to fight and that they have to suffer for it like how and angel will inevitably suffer to die? Great concept there. Love this antagonist.
I guess my point is you should the bingo stray dogs manga. The series hasn’t had been talked about in a while and I stoped reading it awhile ago and randomly had the thought to catch up this morning but it’s amazing and your missing out

Saw a theory once that rather then his violent nature purple haze was representative of Fugo’s trauma as he joined the gang not long after everything that happened but this was based mostly off of the anime backstory and mixed slightly with PHF. So purple haze looks so scary because fugo feels/felt like a monster and ph hates being dirty as as he was being sexually harassed that lead to him feeling dirty and filthy. Purple hazes mouth was shown shut because fugo was forced to keep quiet about it. Getting into PHF the checked pattern was worn by his grandmother to represent how her death impacted him but someone wrote an au around this and purple hazes violence was supposed to be protective him that fugo violently tried to protect himself from his professor so when purple haze fights its similar so the pattern also so how his grandmother was the only one who cared or protected him. My own interpretation add on to this is also that the destructive nature of his ability; the flesh eating virus represents how after the incident his leg kind agot destroyed somewhat; kicked out of school and disowned by his parents left to fend for himself on the streets.
Anyway giorno talking about the stitches reminded me of this theory and what they represent so I Kia day just wanna give both of them a hug

Technoblade and dream had a conversion about it and basically he doesn’t mind working with people he doesn’t get along with for a common goal. Him and dream talk about how they aren’t friends but can work together for a common goal when collecting the wolves. During l’manburg technoblade called out tommy for using him as a weapon and said ‘I choose what I fight for now’ technoblade is choosing to fight the egg because he hates the egg and so does quackity. during the stream quackity says he explicitly states brought his enemy him and techno aren’t friends just because they both hate the egg they just can both fight against it together regardless of that fact. Dream and techno aren’t friends they were upfront about it it was a business partnership. Quackity and techno aren’t friends and explicitly state they are still enemies despite being able to fight together for a common goal. Technoblade felt treated like a weapon with Tommy and not here because in pogtopia they purposely lied and skirted around the truth, they needed technoblades strength and resources so they didn’t tell them the plan. They called themselves a revolution when it was coup d’ete. And They did all of it calling themselves technoblades friends. Technoblade joined dsmp as Wilbur and Tommy’s friend to help them in the revolution, he had his own ideology about anarchy he upfront about and they purposely kept him in the dark because the plan for the it went against those ideologies.
Obviously I know it’s more complicated then this but I’m telling it solely from technoblades perspective because technoblade made these decisions with only his own perspective to inform those decisions.
things i noted about the banquet
1) I know spin-offs are not a thing in the dsmp but I would pay untold amounts of money to see how the fuck the purpled/techno/quackity team up happened
it’s like.... the most unexpected teamup of the century. with probably an untold amount of tension/hilarity and hijinks that happened during. which we will never be able to see which is simply Tragic
2) hannahxxrose... amongus imposter
3) foolish and eret lore., hgnghsnchnashkslssnnnrrll
4) antfrosts death was sad in the moment but HOLY SHIT are the memes funny
5) Sam and ponk.... </3
the way Sam said “you look beautiful” even though he KNOWS there’s no way he can go back to what they once were
6) *shakes c!technoblades shoulders frantically* WHY DID YOU NOT MIND BEING USED AS A TOOL THIS TIME AROUND BUT NOT WITH TOMMY MAKE IT MAKE SENSE (/lh)
7) eret, the most fashionable mf at that gathering, the scene stealer, the loml
8) hbomb just being there... that man did not say a single word. and good for him!
9) ender walk ranboo doing this whole assassins creed lookin thing up there. what you doin up there all sneaky like, huh?

At this point padparadscha is one of the few If only moon gem I respect. Like don’t get me wrong I understand them. Phos has gone through a lot. Dia wanted out of bortz shadow and away from they’re ugly feeling and inferiority to bortz. Cairn I know ppl hate now and I don’t like how they are acting either but I understand them I don’t have to like but I can understand it. Cairn was being manipulated and controlled into protecting someone else who it turned out they had no attachment to that was their own and so wanted to separate themselves from that person. Under stable. It gets a bit dicey when start to look at the marriage with achmea and the other stuff also the just personality is jarring and while I understand it’s cus they’re in control now it’s all a bit weird and feels wrong. Moving on; Alexandrite wants to understand them. Yellow diamond well I’m not 100 on them but they’re sick of fighting and seeing other taking or shattered. No idea what Benito and amethyst thing is tho but they haven’t done anything to be hated for at any rate.
Padparadscha - Trying not to have regrets
Their bio from the volume 11 introduction page got me thinking. What is it that’s weighing on their mind so badly that the author makes note of it? Padpa has very little screen time in that volume, almost entirely dedicated to one scene within the first few chapters.
Tumblr media
When you couple this sequence of events together with their bio, a picture starts to form. Padpa seems to regret leaving Rutile behind. Even though it’s not their fault that they left, Phos being the one who took them to the moon, they’ve always been aware of how Rutile views them and how Rutile tied their self worth to their ability to fix Padpa. Phos states that the reason they took Padpa was so Rutile wouldn’t have to work so hard, but I’d say this is only a half truth. During Padpa’s first reawakening, they briefly confided that they wish Rutile would stop, presumably for their own good. This is where the regret stems from. They feel they’re to blame for Rutile’s breakdown, having been the one to plant the idea in Phos’s head. Take a look at their night raid reunion.
Tumblr media
Padpa’s expression says it all. Their fears came true, and their former partner is beyond recognition. There’s plenty to be said about how Rutile viewed Padpa as a goal rather than a person, but Padpa’s feelings remain the same. They care for their old partner. Possibly even more than they care about themselves. It’s hinted more than once that they see their situation as a lost cause. I don’t believe this means that they’re depressed or suicidal, but that they’ve accepted an inevitable fate. So they go along with Rutile’s obsession. Hey, it’s not like they had much room to argue with how infrequently they’re awake.
Look at the night raid to the 200 year time skip from Padpa’s perspective. They’re taken away by lunarians after being doused in poison, and the next time we see them is when Goshenite wanders into the building that’s housing them. Their corundum chunks have been removed, rendering them unconscious.
When they’re revived, the very first thing they do is request help to return to Earth. Keep in mind that gems are almost always in a state of suspended animation when shattered or missing parts, so for Padpa, meeting Rutile during the raid and making this decision hasn’t been a very long time.
Tumblr media
It’s easy to mistake this scene as Padpa sacrificing themself to save Phos the first time you read through. In truth, Phos being there is pure coincidence. Padpa had no way of knowing what happened on Earth given how long they’ve been unconscious, and you see this when they ask Goshenite if Phos has succeeded or not.
Their true goal, as their bio states, is to try and not have regrets. They willingly give themselves back over to Rutile. Their dialogue suggesting to use the chunk as a reference isn’t made in condescension; they’re being honest. Padpa can’t help but care for Rutile despite their unhealthy connection. They didn’t even know what to do with the second chance at life that Phos gave them, especially after the mercury rendered them too fragile to move without assistance. All these factors together culminate in Padpa’s most selfless act of the series.
Of course, this doesn’t fix Rutile’s madness. I wouldn’t be surprised if Padpa expected that outcome either. Like much of the arcs in this manga, it doesn’t end happily.
Tumblr media
Sleep well, Padpa. You were one of the few unambiguously good characters.

I especially like dia & bortz being pinning cheerleaders and padparadscha and rutile having the pretty similar dynamics to canon of athlete and doctor.

Note
honestly in pad's perspective, them being in a coma didnt make rutile happy and them being healthy still didnt make rutile happy so it's like fuck you. try fixing me then, here's a piece of something that fixed me, see if you can replicate it if youre so stubborn about it. meanwhile, im gonna pay back the gem that actually helped me by giving myself to them cause you clearly only care about being able to fix me and not my recovering itself
Tumblr media
after trying to answer this concisely, I found out that i had a lot of thoughts.
So have a meta about Padparadscha’s wish for death, Rutile’s insecurities and why Padpa came back to Rutile.

Bortz is abrasive was cared and wants to protects the others and dia because of how strong they are but this leads to dia feeling useless as in that dia doesn’t get the chance to fight properly under bortz protection. This is shown when dia uses their new technique when introduced and bortz shouts at them because it’s unsafe and required dia to strain and break their body. Dia undernearth hates bortz for the shadow they cast and dia also hates themselves and feels guilty for feeling that but when they left for the moon cast off from bortz. They resent bortz but no longer hate them as they aren’t cast in their shadow but they do want to more on from those ugly feelings from their resentment and uselessness and inferiority and so they want to beat bortz because if they were stronger or as strong as bortz they won’t have to resent them for being so strong and they won’t feel weak or useless and they won’t feel inferior as they’ll have proved to themselves that they were equals, that they were both diamonds.
Rutile and padparascha relationship is more on ruthless dependence on padparascha and how they put they’re whole worth into one thing and when phos took padparascha to the moon they took rutiles self worth with them because of that. This is why rutile snapped and wants to destroy the pieces padparascha got from the moon; this is why they want to destroy phos, phos took padparascha to the moon they took they’re self worth and they caused this from rutiles perspective. Rutile and padparascha relationship is unhealthy as padparascha is living for rutile when they want to let go, they see go through all that effort waking him up again and again futile because they’ll just fall asleep soon after and they see it futile to struggle against but because rutile has emerged themselves into the role of Doctor and put all of themselves and their self worth into it padparascha doesn’t fight it, not that they can really they can’t stop rutile from doing what they do when they are asleep. Padparascha is aware they’ve become a project to for rutiles self worth born from their insecurity they don’t hate rutile and rutile doesn’t seem to have been aware this is what they did, it was an subconscious emotional reaction to their own insecurities on rutiles part and padparascha noticed and recently shows pity in how loosing this has effected and destroyed padparascha.
Dia and Bortz - Rutile and Padparadscha - The difficulty of roles and bonds
In the society of the Gems, different roles matter a great deal. You`r constitution as a Gem largely dictates what kind of role and job you are given, and the other Gems expect you to be a productive member of their community. This role and job are one of the core foundations for the Gem`s identity. What also influences and affects these, are the bonds the Gem`s share. I think there are a couple of interesting examples of bonds, which influence the other person. The ones I am talking about the bond shared between Dia and Bortz and the one with Rutille and Padparadscha. I find these dynamics interesting, because they work in different levels.
In this post I`d like to inspect some of the elements found from the bonds between these four characters, and also discuss some other details that I find interesting about them.
Dia and Bortz - I wish you were not here
Tumblr media
I`ll start with Dia. As the name implies they are a diamond, one of the Gems that are the most solid. However they have a weak spot which can spread cracks if it is hit, but despite this, their solidness makes them rather suited for combat. As Dia`s definition of diamonds go, diamonds are strong, they are warriors. Dia is a rather good at combat but because of the existence of Bort, Dia feels that they cannot fulfil their role and purpose as a diamond. Since the diamonds are strong, what are you when you do not fit into this description?
