#Buck is really fighting for every kid he will ever see because it's everything he wanted as a kid but didn't get from his parents

Buck has never felt so hungover. He doesn’t drink a lot and last night he drank…more than a lot. There had been karaoke, hadn’t there? Oh God, he hopes there isn’t video.
And now he has to tell his sister on her wedding day that they’ve lost her fiancé.
At least Eddie’s here beside him, looking just as worse for wear. Or maybe even more so. Buck’s not sure why he even bothered with the collar of his shirt.
Telling his sister goes just about as well as he thought it would. She and Hen immediately start pacing, reaching for phones, and calling numbers so fast Buck’s not even sure they let the line connect before they start another call.
And he and Eddie stand there awkwardly. Immobile with hangover. And honestly, Buck wishes his parents weren’t here at the moment. He doesn’t overly care what they think anymore (okay maybe he does but he’s working on it) but he sort of wanted to see them for the first time since they…found out…a little more presentable.
Maddie had asked him if he wanted her to tell them before the wedding. So they wouldn’t go all ‘Phillip and Margaret Buckley’ and make fools of themselves when he showed up at the wedding with Tommy. Who is probably waiting for me downstairs looking gorgeous, Buck thinks with an inaudible groan.
But now it’s HIM making the fool out of himself wearing a ridiculous outfit, destroyed within an inch of its life, and more hungover than he’s ever been.
His dad coughs to break the silence between the four people not currently pacing around the room.
“Um,” Phillip says with an awkward shuffle forward, “You, um, must be Buck’s date. We’ve heard…a lot about you. Nice to meet you.”
It’s almost in slow motion as Buck watches his dad extend a hand toward…Eddie. He thinks Eddie is Tommy. He thinks Eddie is Buck’s date. Buck’s not sure if he wants to laugh or cry or vomit.
His parents, in their own weird way, are trying. And while he can’t forgive and forget, a part of him heals a little more in this moment.
And then he glances over at Eddie. Eddie, who is vacillating between looking at Buck’s father’s hand and Buck himself, straightening his ruined suit jacket like that will make it look any less ruined.
A weird feeling fills Buck’s chest at the gesture. His eyebrows furrow as something almost…unfurls behind his ribcage. Between the insinuation and Eddie’s reaction to it, Buck can’t make heads or tails of the increased beat of his heart. What…is happening?
“Dad, that’s Eddie. You’ve met him before. He’s not Buck’s date. Tommy is.” Maddie huffs from near the window; phone still at her ear as she rolls her eyes.
Phillip apologizes immediately and Buck thinks he tries to make a joke to lighten the mood but Buck’s now focused on the new feeling in his chest. The feeling that popped up right after Maddie set their father straight.
Disappointment.
What the hell is happening?

So what would you say are the "must read" Buddie fics for someone who's never read any?

Q: When you first met that character, and you seemed a little standoffish and maybe threatened, and not a big fan. Do you think it's because deep down you had these... something there brewing, but you didn't know what it was?

Eddie's sitting closer to Buck than he's allowed himself since Buck came out - since Buck started dating Tommy. But Buck isn't dating Tommy anymore and Eddie came out to Buck fifteen minutes ago and now they're having conversation so intense that Eddie thinks he might need to go to an emergency therapy session after they're done. So Eddie's sitting closer to Buck than he's allowed himself to in over a month, but it feels too close and not close enough at the same time.
"What am I supposed to say Buck? That I lied when you asked me what I remembered about getting shot? That if I told you what I remembered you'd never be able to look at me the same way?"
"Eddie -" Buck starts, but Eddie cuts him off before he can say more.
"You want to know what I remember about that day? I got shot in the middle of the street on a sunny fucking morning in L.A. and as I was laying on the ground bleeding out I reached for you. I thought I was dying and all I wanted was to touch you one last time. Do you want me to tell you that I was bleeding out and all I could think was that I never told you how much I love you? Because it's true, it's true."
"W-why didn't you tell me after?" Buck sounds as broken as Eddie feels.
"I thought I did," Eddie says and he reaches over the empty space between them but doesn't close the gap. It's only a foot, maybe less, but it feels as wide of a gap as it had felt like while he was bleeding onto the pavement. "I gave you my son Buck. I gave you my heart."
The "oh" that leaves Buck's mouth sounds like a revelation and an accusation all at once. It sounds like 'you didn't tell me' and 'I didn't realize' and 'I wish I'd known sooner'.
But then Buck does close the gap between their hands, just like he had all those years ago while Eddie had lay dying on the street, saved by the same hands that cover Eddie's now. His blood forced to stay in his body with the same fingers that slot through Eddie's now.
Eddie lets out a breath he hadn't realize he was holding and his next inhale feels better than his first breath after leaving that well. It feels like breathing for the first time.
"I'm still in love with you," Eddie tells him, because it's the only thing unsaid between them. It's the only thing left to say.
"Yeah?" Buck's eyes are wet and Eddie realizes his are too.
"Yeah."
"Me too - I-I love you too. I think I have for a really long time actually. I just didn't - didn't realize what that feeling was."

No Big Deal (A Buddie Fic)
Summary:
Buck is adopting Chris, and Eddie has found a useful little loophole to speed up the process: they're getting married. It's only for the paperwork, of course. They're both in relationships, and not with each other. And speaking of relationships, what Marisol and Tommy don't know won't hurt them, right? It's not like they're cheating… they're just getting married! It's no big deal.
Part 1: Carla
It was not a big deal. It really wasn’t. Despite Carla’s raised eyebrow and it being type of thing that usually is a big deal, in this context, it was not. It was simple and almost too easy; a trip to the registry office and a few signatures and yet another raised eyebrow from Carla later, and Buck and Eddie were married. Only on paper, of course. There was none of the generally expected emotion behind it that would make it anything more than a marriage of convenience.
Because really, not being married was inconvenient as hell.
It was all about Christopher, as most things in Eddie’s life were. Specifically, Chris’s most recent surgery, and the hospital’s absolute refusal to let Buck sign any of the paperwork, or to discharge a tired and sore Chris into Buck’s care. It had been more upsetting to Chris than anyone, and it had been the final straw.
There had been problems before, of course, with doctor visits and the school and even Eddie’s own parents. Far too many people thought it was strange that a “random friend of his dad’s”, as one nurse put it, had so much involvement in Christopher’s life. Eddie didn’t know how to explain to them that Buck wasn’t some random friend, he was Buck. And to add to the entire dumpster fire, his parents had made it clear that, will or no will, if something happened to Eddie, they were going to fight for custody. That couldn’t be allowed to happen.
It had been Carla’s idea, the marriage, although she would say later that it wasn’t quite what she had meant. She’d refused to elaborate when interrogated though, and had agreed to be their witness with a long-suffering sigh that Eddie thought was undeserved. It was a good idea, and it would make the process of Buck adopting Chris infinitely easier.
The adoption would take six months or so to finalise, but in the meantime, Buck being Christopher’s legal stepdad would have to be enough.
“After you, husband,” Buck laughed, fitting his key into the Diaz house’s front door and holding it open with a flourish.
“Why thank you, husband.” Eddie chuckled right back, and wondered when it would stop being funny. Probably not for a good, long while. “Beer?”
When Buck nodded, he grabbed two from the fridge and a soda for Carla, and plopped himself down on the couch. Buck was already in his usual spot, and Carla was perched in the chair opposite, huge handbag crouched at her feet. She didn’t drink much, and Eddie had stopped offering a long time ago.
“Well,” she had an odd, pinched look on her face, like she knew the answer to a joke she was yet to share. She raised her can. “Here’s to the happy couple.”
They clinked their drinks together and there was a beat of silence as they sipped, Buck’s shoulder jostling Eddie with the movement.
“Didn’t think I’d be married again so soon, or ever.” It was a joke, mostly, and Buck gave the appropriate snort.
“Oh, but darling,” he draped an arm over Eddie’s shoulders, drawing out the word with a chuckle. “We’re so in love, how did you not see it coming?”
Eddie was right, and he shoved Buck away with another laugh; this was going to be funny for a very long time.
“So,” Carla asked, when their drinks were almost empty and the clock warned it was nearly time to get Chris from school. Her voice was too casual, and Eddie picked up immediately on the underlying curiosity; this was more than just an offhand question. “What do Marisol and Tommy think about this?”
Oh. Oh shit.
