Writeblr Re-Introduction 💛
Tumblr media
(GIF ID: Pikachu from Pokemon turning around and waving with a stick with a leaf on it)
Hello everyone, nice to meet you. My name is Mariah and I am a fantasy and contemporary writer that is an in-between of young adult and adult. I am aiming to do more writing advice, writeblr appreciations, and overall writing content, but I also reblog cute, funny and informative stuff. Besides writing, I enjoy reading, gaming and watching anime and other series.
I'm happy to share other people's content and just so you know I'm in my mid twenties so if you are uncomfortable following me I 100% understand.
My WIPs under the thread (hoping it works)
A Knights' Loyalty (fantasy): After serving the royal family since childhood and doing everything by the books, Seren is now exiled from the very person they protected and is now on a journey around the continent with unexpected allies, finding themselves along the way.
Why She Died (contemporary): Winona finds a journal left behind by her late friend who died by suicide. She left her with clues to find the rest of the pages to figure out her story to possibly find the reason why she died. TW for mentions of suicide.
Walking Parallel to Happiness (contemporary): A nineteen year old woman and her mum move into her new boyfriend's home after living in a safe house for a few years from the abuse the two suffered from her dad. Gwendolyn is now navigating her anger, fear, sadness and frustration in a new area in an attempt to move on from the trauma. Currently up to chapter 3. This one will have TW such as domestic abuse, animal abuse and maybe others but can't remember.
Other WIPs include:
A Royal's Decision (fantasy): A story from Seren's life bringer's perspective where she wants to prove herself as the royal child yet not end up like her own life bringer. This one is gonna be a political story with a side romance.
Untitled (fantasy): A sequel to A knights' loyalty about an orphan and xir lovers entering a tournament to become the next royal child of Fort Barric.
Untitled (fantasy I think?): a demon and angel must work together as colleagues in order to get resurrected. They do not get along, but have to in order to get another chance at life.
Untitled (Danganronpa fanfic): won't share on here more likely but like to mention this. Does not have any of the danganronpa characters and plot isn't exactly the same but does use its premise so I still like to consider it a fanfic

writeblr intro
Hello! Thought it'd be nice to have a bit more about myself since I think the last time I made an intro was...2020? Early quarantine? A while ago!
about me
I'm Lee! I'm an artist and writer who loves urban fantasy, psychology, character building, and meta-analysis. I've been leaning more towards creating webcomics and visual novels as of the past few years so I can work on my art and my writing simultaneously!
I am a 20 year old Black American non-binary lesbian as well, which influences much of my work and interests! I go by they/them pronouns.
I have a fascination with the ideas of fate, narratives, love (romanticized and otherwise), heroes, and sacrilegious (agnostic? removed?) christianity. Some more of my interest tags can be found here. (though I haven't updated that page in a sec haha)
I interact from my main, @sapphsoon ! I love interacting with the writing and art communities, so please feel free to include me in tags, tag games, asks, and the like! Storyteller Saturdays in particular are a favorite of mine ☆
current works in progress
Slips of the Stars -- a webcomic about a "background character" trying to discover the truth about their origins as their day keeps looping over and over in an endless cycle.
my current focus! genre mishmash adventure about neurodiversity, feeling like the "odd one out", unchosen circumstances, and loneliness. in the stages of drafting and development, both art-wise and writing wise. content tag | inspiration tag
Liho -- a webcomic about a hopelessly romantic college student that has been granted the power to become a magical girl to keep the pureness of love safe on her campus! ...too bad adult relationships aren't as simple as they seem in the shows.
urban fantasy coming of age about being weird, good intentions, unrealistic expectations, and what "love" really means. in developmental stages. inspiration tag
Ghosters -- a story about the best friend in a standard YA fantasy novel suddenly realizing that someone else has been pulling the strings for them for a long, long time.
fantasy paranormal horror novel looking at genre conventions and tropes and their roots in racism, colorism, sexism, and other discrimination. currently on pause. inspiration tag
additionally, you may see me post occasionally about my undergraduate thesis study, which is a survey of the causes, mediators, effects, and potential interventions in university students suffering from chronic loneliness. I'm also working with a friend on a post-structural analysis on the subject of fairytales in different cultures and the story of Princess Tutu.
thanks for reading! please feel free to reach out at any time. Have a lovely day and happy writing!

N A M E S A K E
He takes her in his arms. He wants to say I love you, nothing can hurt you but he thinks this is a lie, so he says in the end you’re dead, nothing can hurt you which seems to him a more promising beginning, more true. - Louise Gluck
a hades and persephone myth retelling in which hades is a skeleton, stripped of his godhood and powers, and persephone is a young flower maiden in search of her missing mother.
POV: third person, present tense
Status: Third rewrite
Genre: Fantasy
Projected word count: 85,000
read my writing here.
CHARACTERS
persephone
a maiden stolen from her mother and forced to marry a man at the blessing of a father who neither knew who her nor cared. a young bride tricked into the throne of a queen, lost in a world of frost when she returns to the living and her mother’s despair has plunged the planet into everlasting mourning.
hades
a deity who loses his agency and godhood, and learns to survive without all the power and might his birthright afforded him. misanthropic goth king forfeits the body to bed a wife, but finds a heart to love one.
demeter
a mother who grieves a world without her beloved daughter. her disappearance creates a chain of events in which the dead spill into the land of the living while an unrelenting winter threatens to end all life.
about
ultimately, namesake is a story about agency, how families overcome tragedy and come to heal. i didn’t want to write a typical hades and persephone story in which persephone is a consenting adult who chose her fate as queen of the underworld. i wanted to explore the repercussions of the men who ultimately dismantled her life and made those choices for her. i’ve been writing this project since 2014, evolving it as i studied classics and writing in university. this project means everything to me. tag list under the cut.
tag list:

The last two issues of LampLight Magazine are available for free for awards consideration! This is a great chance to read some amazing pieces, including my lesbian werewolf short story “Emmory and the Wolf.” I highly recommend checking these issues out if you like weird horror.

Shamir Worm, 2021.
the shamir worm is one of Jewish folklore’s “miracles of creation,” made at twilight on the sixth day (along with things like the rainbow and Moses’ staff): a tiny creature that could cut stone - either by its piercing gaze or with its mouth - it was used by King Solomon to build the first temple, due to the fact that no iron tools or other potential instruments of bloodshed could be used to build a holy monument to peace. some say it was also used to engrave the tablets with the 10 commandments, and to engrave the names of the 12 tribes of Israel on the stones in the priestly breastplate. the mystical shamir is a symbol of creative destruction and a reminder that powerful things can come in tiny forms.

Reminder to write at YOUR pace. If you take 10 years to finish one WIP, that's fine !!! If you finish a novel a month, that's also fine !!! You're not going too slow or too fast, it's your story. Do your best to make it good & if you feel you need loads of time to do that or you feel you need a short amount of time to do that, that's chill !!

Writeblr Introduction
Tumblr media
Hello hello! I'm Riley Shahar (they/them or ze/zir), old to tumblr but new to writeblr and looking to make some writer friends :) Especially to help get through NaNo, lol. Feel free to come chat with me anytime you'd like!
I'm a mid-20s genderqueer lesbian who mostly writes (dark) fantasy, horror, and sci-fi, with a focus on queer, disabled, and/or Jewish characters. Also, characters with Issues. Feral freaks (affectionate). "Poor little meow meows," as the kids say. Always a lover of a good redemption arc.
I'm forever the victim of shiny new idea syndrome, currently wrangling multiple novels and short stories and begging my brain to finish one. In addition to writing, I also enjoy folk ballads, Dungeons & Dragons, tea, goth music, cats, bdsm, kpop, and getting lost in the woods by my house.
My blog is 18+ as I write sexual content and dark themes!
Current Novels in Progress:
#PiratesWIP: Dark Fantasy. Luca, a navy sailor, has turned twenty years old, meaning it's time to visit the oracle and see which of seven deities has chosen him as a devotee. He assumes he'll be picked by the God of Death, as his well-respected parents and brother were before him. Instead, he earns the mark of a disgraced Goddess who has supposedly been dead for a thousand years -- executed by Her husband, the God of Death Himself. While fleeing, Luca is kidnapped by pirates, led by a captain still devoted to the fallen Goddess despite the futility and illegality of worshiping Her. The captain intends to kill Luca, but when he sees the fresh mark of his Goddess on the sailor's skin, he instead brings Luca along on a harrowing journey to resurrect Her.
#MorticianWIP: Supernatural Horror. A Jewish trans man goes back to his late mother's Appalachian hometown with a grant to research a disturbing anomaly in the local wildlife. Doing so brings back his unwelcome childhood ability to see ghosts, and has him crossing paths with the shy mortician of the local funeral home. The researcher falls hard and fast for this mortician, despite the growing evidence that he may be dangerous, and something more than a mortal man, and could even be playing a part in the wildlife corrupting around them.
#TheaterWIP: Dark Fantasy. When they were thirteen, Elec's identical twin sister Zuli was scouted by the world's most prestigious theater and left home to train with them. A decade later, Elec lives a blissfully simple life in their home village, while Zuli is a successful actress abroad, famous for her role as the main villain in an ongoing story told through weekly performances. When Zuli goes missing, Elec is asked to come to the theater and take her place in performances until she's found. They agree for the sole purpose of discovering what happened to their sister. As they learn to live and breathe the arts the same way Zuli did, Elec comes to find the playhouse apparently haunted; and not by the spirit of Zuli, but by the spirit of the fictional villain she played.
(Those are just the ones I'm actively writing, you might see more tags pop up for my dozen other ideas lmao)
If you think we have a thing or two in common, please like or reblog this post! I'm looking for cool folks and blogs to follow. :)

Nanowrimo day one: 2,081 words
Off to a good start! I meant to begin writing my dark fantasy pirates wip on day 1, but I haven't nailed down my deities or magic system well enough to feel confident starting yet, so I'm working on a fanfic in the meantime. Hopefully I'll have enough worldbuilding to get writing soon! It shouldn't take too much longer. (<- famous last words)
