Seen a lot of speculation that all of the ratgrinders died and came back in the mountains of chaos, but that doesn't line up with where Lucy's body was found nor with the time of her death. We'll probably get an actual answer, but have a horrible one instead!

Jace's target in the mountains of chaos was exclusively Kipperlily. The party gets split, he gets her alone, and...

The others are used to Kipperlily being in a mood, of course, and them having this minor quest when the Bad Kids had just been broadcast to the world a couple of weeks before fighting a villain of legend had made it worse, but she seemed like she might spit fire every time she opened her mouth. Even Reuben didn't want to argue with her at the moment, and he always wanted to argue with her. Getting the mission done fast seemed like a good idea, so splitting into duos was fair enough.

Ivy had wanted to protest, when Kipperlily had paired herself up with Oisin instead of letting Ivy and Oisin stick together as usual, but she'd paired up with Lucy nicely enough and in fact Oisin and Kipperlily were the last to meet up. Oisin seemed to be in a foul mood, too, probably because of having to deal with the rogue.

"I've got something to show you, Ivy." Oisin had offered, while they were camping that night before heading back to Solace, and she hadn't suspected her friend for a moment before their mastermind's knife had found her back.

Reuben was easy to isolate, after. Just pretend they were interested in hearing his music for once.

Mary Ann was harder, but they just needed to hide it from Lucy now; four on one was strong enough odds to overcome even their barbarian.

It wasn't until the first day back in school from the quest that they got Lucy alone, the five of them in the woods with her, and by then whatever small qualms Kipperlily had had that had caused her to take on the harder fights of Mary Ann or Ivy or Oisin first had been quelled.

Of course she'd come back for them. Of course Lucy loved them more than her god. Why would Kipperlily have ever had a doubt?

5K Fic Celebration!

AO3 hit 5,000 Dimension 20 works on AO3 today, thanks to a lot of great writers over the years <3

For those who spend less time there than me, some stats on the most popular characters at this point and all. I'm going to list an overall edition and then one that excludes Fantasy High characters, as Fantasy High dominates the lists otherwise:

Overall Characters: Adaine Riz Fig Fabian Kristen Gorgug Aelwyn Ayda The Bad Kids as a whole Jawbone

Hob is 11th, if you were to exclude the Bad Kids tag. There's a sizable gap in between Fabian and Kristen, though it's actually shrunk slightly since Junior Year started; I think we might see a lot of Kristen and Gorgug fic with their Junior Year selves in the books. There's a big drop between the PCs and the NPCs, though Aelwyn and Ayda are the two most popular NPCs by a mile. They used to be closer to each other, but Aelwyn's been in Junior Year more than Ayda and she's been increasing her lead as a result.

Overall Ships: Riz/Fabian Ayda/Fig Hob/Rue Adaine & Aelwyn Kristen/Tracker Riz & Fabian The Bad Kids & The Bad Kids Zelda/Gorgug Adaine/Fig The Bad Kids & Riz (If we exclude the Bad Kids relationships:) Esther/Ricky Adaine & Riz

My guess is that Riz/Fabian gets dethroned in the next few months; this used to be the most popular pairing by a mile, and Ayda/Fig are close on their heels now. A lot of the popularity of that pairing is from prior to Sophomore Year finishing, though it's not totally waned, obviously.

Hob/Rue are, for the record, tagged in one more fic than Rue themselves is, which I think is hilarious.

It wouldn't surprise me if long-term Zelda/Gorgug in particular falls entirely off this list; we'll see what we get the rest of the season though.

Also, speaking for my non-romance writing aroace self, I LOVE that there are so many platonic relationships on this list.

Not-Fantasy High Edition! Characters first: KP Hob Amethar Rocks Theobald Gumbar Ruby Rocks Delloso de la Rue Pete Conlan Jet Rocks Caramelinda Rocks Liam Wilhelmina

This is maybe a surprising list, a mix mostly of Crown of Candy and ACoFaF with Pete at least making the list to break up that monopoly - this tracks as those are by far the second and third biggest campaigns for fics on AO3. To me the biggest highlight here is Caramelinda making it at ninth, above Liam and Lapin among others.

Rue/Hob Ricky/Esther Lapin/Theobald Andhera/Binx Caramelinda/Lazuli Elody/Gerard Deli/Colin Jet & Ruby Calroy/Amethar Dale/Sofia

I mean, I have a Rue/Hob fic that certainly doesn't present the relationship in a positive light. I feel like it's less interesting in a happy light than the others of ACoFaF, alas, and the gap between first and second on this list is massive - there's more than twice as many RueHob fics as Ricky/Esther. Half or more of the Elody/Gerard fics are focused on them breaking up, which is reasonable.

I really need more details in these last few episodes about how everyone in Mordred is dealing with there suddenly being not just a prickly librarian but also fifteen cats suddenly living there.

Yes, specifically as the assassin of the Elven Oracle Eleminthindriel, who had held the position for close to a millennia and was a legendary figure in her own right.

Edit: Oh, maybe also for being the one to actually break at least one of the Nightmare King's curses - she was the one to dispel the plague of Kalina, at minimum. Tracker and Adaine would potentially also have some credits there, I'd have to double check the transcript for who got which of the others.
