Redeemers: Greenest in Flames! Part 4
Temple Bell: RING. RING. RING.
Narration: The Temple of Chauntea is a large square building, made of fieldstone with a peaked slate roof. One of its two bell towers rings, catching a gleam of moonlight every swing, a cry for help. Several groups of masked men and kobolds surround the building, seeking to force their way in, or force the trapped townsfolk out. Jaune and Adam peer over the cobble stone wall that borders the sacred grounds to the south.
Jaune: *Holds onto his holy symbol, stemming his anger at the sight of a religious sanctuary being flagrantly defiled this way.* …What’s the count?
Adam: Two gray masks and six kobolds at the back door. Looks like they’re trying to start a fire.
Neon: *Slinks her way to their sides from the left.* I also got two gray masks and six kobolds with a battering ram at the front doors. There is also a really creepy guy with a white mask. Looks like the boss.
May: *Drops down from a tree from behind them* I also count a wandering parade of three gray masks, ten kobolds, and two guard drakes. Should be coming around the corner… now.
Narration: *On May’s que, a trio of men in masks slowly lead a procession of chanting kobolds, all either stomping their clawed feet and spears or banging their shields with their fists and blades. On either side of the line of kobolds prowls two dog-like reptile creatures that snap, growl, and foam at the mouth, wanting to tear apart anything that even looks their way.*
Gray Mask: *Beating a hand drum.* Do not be fooled by your false idols! Their promises cannot protect you anymore than these doors can. Only the Dragon Queen can spare you now…
Kobolds: Break. To. Bits! Burn. To. Ash! Break. To. Bits…!
The Party: *They watch as the procession turns the corner again, taking their chants of violence with them.*
Adam: Outnumbered 8 to 1. You don’t need to be a seasoned general to know those are unfavorable odds.
May: We just need to get the civilians out. By my calculations they’ll circle the church every eight minutes. That’d be a four minute window at best before the rest discover us attacking one side.
Neon: Well we better attack quickly, because I’m not totally confident in that front door holding for long.
Jaune: *He studies the group of invaders at the back piling hay and dried grass at the bottom of the heavy wooden door, thick smoke rising to the night sky* Alright, then here’s the plan…
~O~O~O~O~O~
Narration: *Caught up in their task of tending to the fire by the back door, many of the kobolds failed to notice the elementally charged crossbow bolt that zipped past them, striking the tinder pile. The resulting explosion sent a shower of burning debris into the air, accompanied by a thick cloud of blinding smoke that engulfed the area, leaving the kobolds and masked men disoriented and struggling to breathe.*
Gray Mask #1: *Cough! Cough* What the hell?
Adam: *Charges in from out of nowhere, shoulder checking the masked man flying straight into the wall of the temple so hard, you’d swear he cracked the stone.*
Gray Mask #2: *Coughs as she draws her hand crossbow on Adam, but has it immediately knocked out of her hand by a nun-chuck.*
Neon: *Spins her nun chuck and hits the Gray Mask right in the jaw, knocking her mask off, then immediately roundhouse kicks a kobold.*
Jaune: *Charges in and shield bashes a kobold then raises it against the spear of a different one, fending the kobolds off until the masks are dealt with.*
Gray Mask #1: *Coughs blood as he stumbles back to his feet, raising a poisoned dagger. Before he can strike, a crossbow bolt nails his arm to the wall. Before he can yell in pain, Adam knocks his head against the wall again, causing him to slump.*
Adam: *Grunts and wields his massive great sword in two hands and slashes through two kobolds in one swipe.*
Gray Mask #2: *Draws a hand ax and swings at Neon*
Neon: *Catches the arm and judo throws the woman over her shoulder*
May: *Runs up and hits the woman with the butt of her great crossbow, knocking her out.*
Jaune: *Gets stabbed in the arm by a kobold’s spear. He uses his sword to cut the spear in half and kicks the kobold back into the squad.* SLEEP!
Kobolds: *The kobolds scramble to get back on their feet, but the spell has been done. Jaune points his sword at them, commanding them to sleep. Almost instantly, the kobolds start to drool and yawn, falling into a deep slumber before they even make it on their feet again.*
Jaune: *He can barely take a single breath before he orders the team back into action. There just wasn’t any time to waste now.* Adam, get the door.
Adam: *Nods before thrusting the tip of his great sword along the hinges of the thick wooden door. With a show of effort, the minotaur managed to pry the door out of the doorway, causing an uproar of screams and cries of terror from inside.*
Woman: They broke in!
Man: Get the women and children away from the door!
Jaune: *Runs in, weapon holstered and holding up his Talisman of Boldrei.* It’s okay! We won’t hurt you!
Preacher: *Signs a religious symbol in praise.* Oh thank Chanteau, a paladin! Are you here to rescue us?
Jaune: Yes. But we have to go, now! We’re going to the keep! Come on!
Narration: *The preacher urges the rest of the people in the temple to follow Jaune outside, and they obey as quickly as they can. Unfortunately, there were quite a few elderly and injured people amongst the crowd, making evacuation very time consuming. The front door began splintering and cracking under the battering of the invaders, and the chanting of the procession was coming closer towards the back of the temple.*
May: *Peering around the corner at the oncoming mob of hostiles. She dips back and grabs the discarded mask from the ground and a black coat from the unconscious woman, putting them both on.* Contingency time. You think you can out run a couple of drake hounds?
Neon: Please, leading things that want a taste of me on a chase is, like, my specialty. *Takes a quick moment to stretch her legs.*
Narration: *Just as the large group of masked men and kobolds were halfway to the back of the church, they were suddenly halted by the sight of a tabaxi sprinting across their path, and then jumped right on top of the stone wall surrounding the church* Wow! Didn’t know the Ugly Parade was in town! *Laughs and winks as she drops down out of view on the other side*
May: *Limps out in her disguise, bloodied and holding herself up against the side of the temple. She points to where Neon had run off to* What are you doing?! STOP HER! *Crumples down to her knee*
Narration: *Without waiting for an answer, there was a loud roar and the pair of drake hounds burst forth and bound over the stone wall after their prey, followed by the mob of kobolds that were excited for a hunt, and lastly followed by two of the gray masks giving orders to give chase. All that was left was one Gray Mask that rushed to May’s side.*
Gray Mask: *Helping May to her feet* What happened? How did they…? *Anyone could recognize the moment of realization in the man’s eyes even through his scaled mask. It was the very moment he saw the stream of villagers escaping through the back of the church, and also the second before May slit his throat with a knife.*
May: *Covers the man’s mouth with one hand, and wraps an arm around his waist to pull him back around the corner with her before any of the other’s saw. She leaned him up against the wall before taking off her mask and helping with the evacuation.*
Adam: *As the invaders were making headway on the front doors of the temple, he would lift up entire pews and stack them right in front of it to slow them down.* We don’t have much time, Knight!
Jaune: *Ushering an old lady out* This is the last of them! We can-
Narration: *The front doors of the temple managed to be broken open with a loud crash, allowing a man in a White Mask to push his way in, along with a couple kobolds following in behind*
White Mask: You dare stand against the might of the Dragon Queen?! Infidels!!
Adam: *Hefts his great sword* I’ve been called worse.
Jaune: *Draws his long sword* You defile sacred grounds. Drop your weapon or redemption will be out of your grasp.
White Mask: *Draws a large dagger shaped like a jagged icicle* The only thing I wish to grasp is your frozen heart! *Swings his blade, sending a magical spike of ice towards Adam*
Adam: *Tries to duck out of the way, but his large frame was an easy target. The icicle sunk into his shoulder, then shattered into crystalized fragments that rained onto Jaune before he could raise his shield.* GAH!
White Mask: *Smirks* Can’t handle a little bit of ice-?
Jaune: *Channels Divinity* Rebuke the Violent!
White Mask: Huh-? *Before the man had a chance to respond, a brilliant, radiant light emanated from Adam's wounded arm, and gleamed onto White Mask's own arm, aligning perfectly with the spot where the spell had struck. In an instant, the masked man's arm erupted into a blinding explosion of searing, radiant burns.* GAAAH!!!
Adam: *Roars at the top of his lung and charges forward, dragging his great sword into an uppercut that slashes right through the middle of the White Mask and sends him flying up towards the ceiling before landing in a bloody heap on the pile of pews by the door. This sight alone was enough to send the kobolds retreating right back through the front entrance.*
Jaune: *Runs to Adam’s side* Adam! Are you ok?
Adam: *Looks down at his frostbitten and badly slashed arm* Heal it later. We have to move.
Jaune: *Still looks worried but nods as the two of them rush out the back*
~O~O~O~O~O~
Narration: *It took a few minutes for Jaune and Adam to catch back up with the refugees, now hiding by the river with May.*
May: *Looks at Adam’s arm* Shit, what happened to you?
Adam: It’s just a scratch, I’ll be fine.
Jaune: *Sighs* We’ll heal it later, right now-
Narration: *All of a sudden the sound of rustling bushes came from behind them, causing all three adventurers to turn their weapons on the source.*
Neon: *Limping out* Jeez, not even a hello for your favorite girl?
Jaune: Neon! Did you get hurt?!
Neon: No big whoop. Guess those ugly lizard dogs were a little faster than I thought, but I gave them a few good kicks and then the slip. We get everyone?
May: *Nods* Yes. We managed to get everyone out, and then some. *She gestures to a pair of townspeople keeping a hold on the once masked woman they had knocked out in the initial fight, now trying to curse through a gag and pulling at the ropes that bind her hands.*
Adam: You took a prisoner.
Neon: The heck you bring her along for?
May: I figured it was time for us to start getting some answers. This group is clearly well organized and highly motivated by some sort of cause - it's imperative that we know who we are dealing with.
Jaune: *Takes a moment to take in this new development.* May is right. We are not dealing with regular raiders here. When we get back to the keep, we need to interrogate her for whatever information we can get.
Neon: Well, Detective. Who’s gonna play Good Cop and Bad Cop?

Redeemers: Greenest in Flames! Part 3
Narration: *The tunnels below Greenrest is dark, damp, and filled with the echoes of skittering rats. The walls are cracked, covered in moss, and cobwebs hang from the ceiling. Jaune leads Cinder and Neo with the help of a torch, shining light on the ground to reveal any rats for either Cinder to lob a firebolt or Neo to shoot with her hand crossbow.*
Cinder: …You know, after running through a town under siege from masked men and a dragon, this would have been the last thing I thought I’d have had to do today.
Jaune: *Awkwardly chuckles* It’s certainly a change of pace, isn’t it? But hey, if it’s a job that needs doing, we gotta do it.
Cinder: *Rolls her eyes* There’s hardly any rodents around this tunnel to even warrant a “rat problem". I’m sure the fleeing refugees that are going to be running through this tunnel are not going to be too picky about a few rats.
Neo: *Is silently counting each rat she sees. With each kill, she casts an illusionary sound of a bell.* Ding... Ding…
Jaune: Well think about it this way, the real goal here is to secure the tunnel, investigate the secret entrance, and make sure it's safe for us and the villagers. Killing the rats is more of a side objective to make sure that they don’t bite someone and spread a plague in the keep.
Cinder: Fine, I’ll admit there’s importance to this task. But only if you admit that it’s bullshit that we are the ones doing it and not the guards.
Neo: *Casts Minor Illusion to conjure a voice.* “You’re just upset that I’m getting more kills than you.”
Cinder: By all means, the title of “Rat Queen” is all yours.
Neo: *Sticks her tongue out as she nails another rat.* Ding.
Cinder: Anyway, now that we have a lull in excitement, how about we take this time to become better acquainted? Seeing as the possibility of us all dying together has risen significantly.
Jaune: Grim way of pitching it, but sure. What would you like to know?
Cinder: Well , what made you want to become a paladin? No offense, but you seem a little… “too sweet,” for this kind of work.
Jaune: Oh, I guess you can say that’s because my dad is a paladin. And so was my grandpa. And my great grandpa. And my great-great grandpa…
Neo: *Conjures Minor Illusion* “Does every man in your family have to be a paladin or something?”
Jaune: N-No, not really. It’s not like it’s a mandatory thing. It just sort of made sense. I wanted to help people, and paladins help people. *Laughs bashfully* I know, I know it's a boring answer. But I can't put it any other way other than... I like to do it. It's my calling.
Cinder: Gods, you really are “sickly sweet.”
Neo: *Gags mockingly*
Jaune: *Blushes* W-Well what about you? What made you want to worship… Satan?
Cinder: *Huffs* I don’t worship Satan, Boy. I am a servant of the demonette, Lilistor. She’s an up and comer, and has gained quite the following since I came along. As for how I came to be in her employ… let’s just say I wasn’t in the position to be too choosy with how I survived. Lilistor was there when I had nothing else… *A brief moment of silence.* Enough about me, what about you Neo? What made you into the career criminal you are today?
Neo: *Shrugs before casting minor illusion* Because stealing is fun. *Fires off another bolt that sticks a rat in the rear, causing it to squeak and immediately limp into a hole in a nearby barricaded passage. Neo looks annoyed and crawls over to the hole to reach in to try and grab the rat. All of sudden she hisses in pain and yanks her arm back out, shaking her bitten hand.*
Jaune: Neo! You ok? *Goes over and checks her finger*
Neo: *Pouts with a single tear in her eye, glares at Jaune and then points demandingly at the barricaded passage.*
Jaune: Sure, I think I get it. Hold this a second. *Jaune hands her the torch and puts both hands on either side of the passage before rearing a single swift kick into the rotten wood to make a much bigger hole.*
Narration: In the dim light of the torch, a single rat lies still, with an arrow piercing its rear end. The black shadows behind it dance and twitch with the glow of hundreds - maybe even thousands - of bright red eyes, each pair of them a pinprick of glowing malice within the darkness.
Jaune: …Uh oh.
Neo: *Unable to scream, did the very next best thing, dropping her torch and jumping into Jaune’s arms like a cat running up  a tree.*
Rat Swarm: *Start surging out in a wave of vermin bodies, immediately engulfing the torch and making towards Jaune’s armored boots.* Squeaksqueaksqueaksqueak!
Jaune: *Back pedaling frantically towards Cinder* C-C-C-CINDERRRR!
Cinder: *Stares in shock for only a moment before snarling and pushing past Jaune and Neo and holding out her arm* Burning Hands!
Narration: The dark tunnel suddenly fills with flames. The sound of roaring fire and death squeal of hundreds of rats were deafening. The smell of smoke and burnt hair was overwhelming. The heat of the hellish power was scorching. After a few seconds, the fire from Cinder’s hand stopped coming forth, leaving the only light in the tunnel to be the pile of small burning carcasses.
Cinder: *Slightly out of breath* Alright, so maybe there really was a “rat problem.” You two alright?
Jaune/Neo:
Tumblr media
Jaune: Y-Yeah. Good job. Guess all that leaves is to check the entrance. *Goes to put Neo down before suddenly being choked.*
Neo: *Holding onto Jaune’s neck like a vice, conjuring another auditory illusion.* “If you think I’m stepping on this ground after that, you have another thing coming. Carry me.
Narration: Jaune, Neo, and Cinder make their way to the end of the tunnel and find the locked grate. It’s worn and rusted, but it should be able to open with a good twist of a key or a hard knock. They can peer outside through the grating to see some overgrown foliage and the night sky.
Cinder: Hear anything?
Neo: *Shakes her head.*
Jaune: Looks like the raiders haven’t found this entrance yet. That’s good.
Cinder: *Seems pleased.* That’s very good. Now all we have to do is head back-
Bell Toll: RING. RING. RING. RING.
Cinder: What is that?
Jaune: …That’s a church bell. Something is wrong. We have to hurry back to the keep!
~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~
The Party: *The party meets back together at the highest parapet of the keep with Governor Nighthill, who is currently looking off towards the sound of the ringing bell in town.*
Adam: What is it? Reinforcements?
Neon: Ours or theirs?
Nighthill: No. That’s the bell of the Temple of Chauntea. It must be villagers calling for help!
May: *Pulls out a periscope* I see a group of invaders surrounding it. It looks like they have a battering ram.
Jaune: We have to help them. Governor, we just secured the tunnel. What’s the fastest route to the Temple?
Nighthill: The river winds right behind the church. Follow the water and into the surrounding treeline, you should be unnoticed. Quickly, form a rescue team and get there as soon as you can!

Boldrei: *Humming to herself as she knits by the fireplace, her smile widens when she hears a whisper on the wind.* "Gasp!" My champion is praying to me! *Gets excited as she waves her hand over the fireplace to conjure a real time view of her hero.* Lets see what Jaune Arc is in need... of...
Scyring Fire: *Shows a live image of Jaune and his party frantically running across an open field with a horde of marauders chasing them and a full grown blue dragon soaring above.*

Redeemers: Greenest in Flames Part 2
Jaune: … I think we should make a distraction. While the raiders are busy, we take the citizens the next street over and make a run for the keep. Anything that comes at us, we deal with.
Neon: Well that would be a great plan if we had a distraction. Any plan for that?
Reese: Don’t you dare think about using me as bait!
Jaune: No is going to be bait. We just need… *Starts thinking hard while looking around. Eventually his eyes come upon Neo.*
Neo: *Currently counting gold from her large sack of loot she had been collecting off raiders and unattended local businesses.*
Jaune: *Grabs Neo into a bear hug* Adam! Grab that sack and try to toss it over the raiders! May, when the sack is right above them, shoot the sack.
Neo: *Starts silently panicking and thrashing as the minotaur grabs her loot. She casts Minor Illusions to send a flurry of insults and curses straight into Jaune’s ears.*
Jaune: I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I promise to make it up!
Adam: *Starts spinning the large bag around several times before throwing it with all his might.*
Jaune: *Turns to the civilians.* Everyone get ready to run on my mark!
May: *Kneeling down and is following the bag with her crossbow’s crosshairs.* “Zephyr Strike.” *Her crossbow bolt is encased in green whirlwind energy and then pulls the trigger.*
The Raiders: The raiders in the distance were taken off guard by the sound of a small explosion overhead and looked up just in time to see the sky start raining money, jewelry, and expensive heirlooms. The kobolds were the first to dive for the treasure, scooping them up by the handfuls and biting hands that went near theirs. The humans soon joined along and both groups dove for the scattered loot, some scuffling over the larger valuables and getting in fist fights to possess them. It was only the more veteran looking mercenaries and the people in the strange masks that were barking orders at their men to stop acting like fools and kicking the kobolds for them to knock it off.
Jaune: Now! Go!
Narration: The Party along with the civilians rush forward towards the fortress, the guards at the front gate spotting them and waving them in desperately. The children and wounded were carried, those that were having trouble keeping up were practically dragged, and Jaune had to keep a tight grip on Neo as she tried to go back for the gold. They had made it about half way across the field before they heard the-
Blue Dragon: ROAAAAAAAAAR! *The blue dragon flies low overhead, swooping over the field below and causing a powerful burst of wind with its wings that causes the group to stumble and fall. The civilians around the party start shrieking with fear, several children starting to cry. Even the kobolds on the field below stare up in awe and fear, forgetting the fight for the loot.
Masked Man: *See’s the fleeing refugees, he takes the stunned awe of his soldiers to kick a kobold forward and push a mercenary into action.* After them!! *The kobolds, mercenaries, and other masked figures quickly start after the fleeing citizens, some of them trying to use their bows and crossbows to shoot them before they reach the safety of the fortress walls.*
Jaune: *Stops to watch for a moment before yelling* Get up! Run for the keep! *Puts down Neo and helps a man and child back up.* Get everyone up! We can still make it!
Narration: The civilians stagger to their feet, the men trying their best to help those who can't do so themselves. As they ran, half the party was split between quickly ushering the refugees up the hill or firing off cantrips and ranged weapons at the ensuing enemies. The kobolds and mercenaries have closed in further now, firing their bows, crossbows, and throwing spears at them.
Jaune: *Intercepts a javelin going for Cinder with his shield.*
Cinder: *Flings a fire bolt* They’re catching up. We need to hit them with something big.
Jaune: I think I got something. *Touches his holy symbol, a fireplace with a warm flame, and speaks a quick prayer.* SLEEP!
Narration: *The quicker kobolds were running on all fours ahead of the raiders, making them the sole targets of Jaune’s spell. Their chase was suddenly halted by a unexpected coma that tumbled them into heaps on the grass, causing the other kobolds and mercenaries to trip over their sleeping bodies into a bigger pile.*
May: *Looks on with a smirk as she loads another bolt.* Impressive.
Jaune: Thank you, but we need to go! Hurry!
Narration: *The party and the refugees manage to make it to the gate, the defenders quickly leading them all inside and closing the heavy wooden doors and barring them. The Party barely had a second to catch their breaths before some of the guards approached them.*
Guard: Are you Adventurers?
Jaune: *Gasping for breath.* Uh, kinda-?
Guard: Then you need to see the governor right away. Come with us.
Neon: Huh. Guards usually aren’t that happy when they tell me to follow them.
Reese: This feels like a trap.
May: *Looks flatly at them* It’s called being “Needed for help.” Come on.
The Party: *Follow the guards up to the keep’s parapet.*
Nighthill: *Tarbaw Nighthill is a human man of sixty years. The right side of his tanned face and head are bandaged, his right arm hangs in a sling. His noble blue tunic is stained in blood, his or another’s, the party can’t tell. He paces the parapet that gives him a great view of the town of Greenest, and it is not a pretty sight. He turns to the Party.* Just when I thought the gods were forsaking me, they drop the lot of you at my doorstep. I saw what you did out there and I thank you wholeheartedly. What is your party’s name?
The Party: *Suddenly it gets really awkward.*
Cinder: It’s a… work in progress.
May: *Steps forward.* What’s the tactical situation?
Nighthill: Fucked. But it could be worse. The invading force outnumbers the garrison at least 5 to 1. We’re not exactly sure who they are, but it seems the people in the dragon masks and purple clothes are the ones leading this. They don’t seem keen on attacking the keep, but rather keeping us locked in here as they loot the town. That damned dragon has been a big problem for any sizable counter offensive, but luckily just seems more interested in scaring the daylights out of us and any reinforcements that may come to aid us. As long as we’re with in these walls, we should be able to weather this out until they leave, but it’s the citizens outside that I’m worried about.
Jaune: Is there any other way they can get in?
Nighthill: That’s where you all come in. There’s an old tunnel in the keep’s cellar that leads to a secret entrance by the river that runs through town. It was originally built to secret water from the river or be a sallyport for a siege…
Neo: *Already feeling it coming, summons the illusion of the word “But?” above her head.*
Nighthill: *Starting to feel a little embarrassed to say this.* …but the tunnel has developed a bit of a rat problem since it hasn’t been used or needed until now. I need you to go secure the tunnel and the secret entrance so we can have a way to sneak in townspeople still trapped outside.
Reese: Great. Just when I thought we were done with the hardest part of the day.
Adam: This battle is far from over. If anything, it’s probably going to be a very long night until the enemy leaves.
Neon: Guess that means we’re all going down to the tunnel for pest control?
Jaune: *Thinks tactically.* …No. Adam is right, this is going to be a very long night for all of us and clearing this tunnel isn’t going to be the end of it. I think it’s best we split tasks so that we have some party  members resting and guarding the keep while the other half goes to handle any problems that come about.
May: *Nods* Then who is going down to clear the tunnel then?

Redeemers: Greenest in Flames Part 1
Narration: The streets of Greenest were cast in dim light by the half-moon above, choked in smoke as the town burned. Bursting forth from an alley, three children quickly help a limping man across the street to the safety of shadows. Their mother follows close behind them with a blood spattered round shield and a broken spear, she whirls around and faces the direction from which they came. Eight kobolds stream out of the alley on the family’s heel and fan out around the peasant woman, whose hand shakes as she holds the jagged pole against the creatures.
Child #1: Mama!
Linan: *Doesn’t take her eyes off the kobolds who slowly encroach on her with blades and spears.* Don’t look back! Take your father and go! *Her eyes welled up with tears.* I-I won’t let you have them!
The Kobolds: *They’re scaled reptile lips stretch with malicious grins as they edge each other on to strike the woman first. Just as one looked like he was going to charge he suddenly falls flat onto the ground with a crossbow bolt in the back of his head.*
May: *Looks down on the group from a rooftop as she pulls back the string on her heavy crossbow.* Cowards…
The Kobolds: *Look at the dead kobold on the ground before something large and hairy bulldozes pass straight through them, sending half of them flying*
Adam: *Screeches to a halt and plucks the kobold hanging onto dear life on one of his horns. Adam then proceeds to crush the creature’s rib cage in one hand like a yogurt tube.*
Kobold: *Tries chucking a javelin at Adam.*
Neon: *She intercepts the javelin with her nunchaku, sending it soaring upwards, before executing a swift spinning kick that propels the javelin directly into the kobold's chest.* Finally! Some ass to kick!
Cinder: *Strolls up the street and headshots a kobold with a firebolt spell.* Barely even a warm up, really.
Kobolds: *Start panicking when a loud thunderclap sounds, and two kobolds are sent flying through a store front window.*
Reese: *Blows arcane smoke from her magic flintlock pistol. Her eyes glint with mischief only a goblin could.*
Kobold Looter: *Quickly starts running with a heavy sack of stolen treasure before bumping into one of his squad members who suddenly slays him with a dagger.*
Neo: *Drops her magical kobold disguise and cleans off her dagger before she starts sifting through the loot sack.*
Last Kobold: *Drops his weapon and starts running for his life.*
Cinder: Looks like one got away.
Jaune: *Rounds the corner trying to find his party.* Guys? Where’d you go?
Last Kobold: *Hits his shield like a brick wall and is immediately knocked out*
Jaune: *Stumbles.* S-Sorry! Are you-? Oh. *Pokes the kobold with his foot before looking up* There you are.
Neon: Good catch, Blondie.
Adam: We saved these civilian’s lives. The quest is complete.
Reese: Yeah, can I go home now?
Linan: *Still holding her broken spear out before her knees buckle, staring at the party of adventurers with wide eyes. Her family rushes to her side, enveloping her in a tight embrace. Tears stream down her cheeks as she looks up at the group of adventurers who had just saved their lives.* Th-Thankyou. We owe you everything.
Cinder: How much is “everything,” exactly?
Party: *Stares at Cinder*
Cinder: What? I was joking, obviously. It’s called “Dark Humor.” Lighten up.
Jaune: *Notices the wounded man and rushes to his side.* Hold still, sir. I can help you. *He holds out his palms and they start to glow, magically healing the wounds with holy healing.*
Children: *Stare on in wonder*
Jaune: *Smiles gently* There, that should be better. Do you all have a safe place to stay until this is over?
Linan: W-We were trying to make it to the keep. It’s the only safe place left in town.
May: *Hops down from the rooftops.* It doesn’t seem that the raiders have established an effective cordon around the fortress yet. If we’re quick and lucky, we can get there before it’s too unsafe.
Jaune: *Nods and stands* Then that’s where we’re heading. *Looks to the civilians* Are all of you good for traveling?
Narration: Linan and her husband, Cuth, both nod and each pick up one of their children, leaving Jaune to pick up the third. The party heads out towards the keep, doing their best to keep a low profile and quickly dispatching any invader that stumbles upon them. By the time they party makes it near the open fields surrounding the keep, they manage to pick up another ten civilians.
At the heart of Greenest, towering stone walls of the fortress known as Greenest Keep stand as a beacon of hope amidst the chaos. The front gates stand wide open for any fleeing peasants fleeing the onslaught. Stationed guards usher refugees in as archers line the ramparts to rain down on any enemies that get to close. The main road between the Party and the Keep is guarded by a platoon of about thirty enemies, a mix of kobolds and mercenaries seemingly being directed by strangely dressed men and women in dark purple garbs and colorful reptilian masks.
Reese: *Whistles* Well shit, that’s a problem.
Adam: I think we can take them. They haven’t impressed me with a good fight so far.
Neon: With all these people with us? Our best chance is to sneak around.
May: It’s an open field around that fortress. The second we make a run for it those raiders will be on our tail. We need a distraction.
Cinder: Creating a distraction could take too long. Whatever we’re doing, we better do it quick before even more enemies surround the keep.
The Party: *Look at Jaune.*
Jaune: …What?
Neo: *Gestures for him to speak up.*
Jaune: You’re asking me what we should do?!
Neon: Yeah, aren’t you, like, our boss or something?
Cinder: You’re the only one here who technically has any real authority.
Reese: So what’s the plan?
Jaune: *A single sweatdrop falls along his face as he scans over his Party and looks over to the scared civilians with them. He takes a deep breath to calm his nerves and takes careful consideration of the situation.* Alright then. I think we should…

Tales from the Celestial Nexus: Part 1
Narration: The Celestial Nexus is a breathtaking palace suspended within the cosmic expanse, encased in a shimmering crystal sphere amidst swirling galaxies. Within its circular walls adorned with divine murals, gods from all pantheons convene upon a luminous platform, surrounded by thrones of celestial design. Illuminated by an eternal flame and ancient runes of wisdom, the Nexus is where divine beings unite to discuss matters of cosmic import, forging alliances and shaping the destiny of existence itself. In one of it's many many meeting chambers, the gods and goddesses meet to discuss the various issues and notes of interest within their shared domains...
Hiatae: *Bangs gavel* Alright, as this meeting's designated Lead Chair, I formally begin the "Cross Pantheistic Gathering of the Family Domain". Would any member here like to bring forth an agenda?
Boldrei: *Raises hand giddily*
Rest of the Council: *Exasperated sighs*
Lliira: *Rubs her hands together* Oh this ought to be good.
Hiatae: *Pinches the bridge of her nose* Yes, Boldrei of the Sovereign Host?
Boldrei: *Stands up, clears her throat, and pulls out a scroll* Thankyou, Hiatae of Jotunheim. I have an important update on my Champion-
Luthic: *Sneers, while picking clean one her orc tusks* You mean, "Farm Boy"? What did he do this time? Marry a pair of horses?
Yondolla: Oh that'd be adorable! Did he?!
Boldrei: *Pouts* NO! In fact he didn't, Luthic of Neshrik! My brave knight, Sir Arc of Bourbon, has taken up his first Redemption Quest, and is now going out on his first adventure!
The Council: *Some scattered congratulations and polite clapping*
Berronar: *Boredly stroking one of her Dwarven braids* That's dandy and all Boldrei, but is there an actual agenda you're getting at? Because we all have several other domain gatherings after this that'll take up enough of our, and most importantly my, day as is.
Boldrei: What I'm trying to get at is since Jaune is now on the road, and I wanted to inquire if any of you had any followers that may be able to lend him aide if he happens to cross their path? Hopefully single and fertile?
Council: *Groans in annoyance*
Boldrei: *Looking at the Council* What? What is it?
Yondolla: *Awkwardly clasps her hands together* W-well, I'm not too sure if my girls will be willing accommodate... those certain needs. But if he does happen to cross a Halfling village, I'm sure they'll more then welcome him for supper and provide a warm bed, to sleep in that is.
Berronar: My kind won't bar him from our Under Cities. But I hardly expect any self respecting Dwarven woman will take up a human for romp.
Lliira: *Leans on her desk, the rest of her floating up into the air as she kicks her feet* Why not send him to one of my groves? I'm sure the nymphs will have a wonderful time with a cute boy like him~
Luthic: *Darkly chuckles* Or I can send you one of my war bands. The girls could use some target practice.
Hiatae: *Smacks gavel* That's enough from you two! Boldrei, I think its wonderful that your... "Champion" is taking his first steps, but I think most of the Council would agree that until he actually makes a name for himself, we see no reason to arrange our own followers to seek him out as a mate. For now, the best I'll do his not let my girls accidentally step on him.
Boldrei: Oh is that what's this about?! My Jaune isn't good enough for your followers?! Well, I tell you you're missing out! He is the Goodest Boy! You'll see! You'll all see!
Hiatae: *Smacks gavle* Order! ORDER! Boldrei, don't make me call your husband in here again!
Boldrei: *Crosses her arms and sits down pouting.* Hmph!

Redeemers: Greenest in Flames! Prologue
Narration: A caravan of brightly painted carriages cuts through the verdant hills, heading for town of Greenest. The air is thick with the scent of pine trees and the chirp of birdsong, and the warm breeze blows through the leaves, creating a tranquil atmosphere. The travelers are eager to reach the sanctuary of Greenest before day’s end, hoping to enjoy a peaceful respite after their journey.
Among these travelers they are joined by a peculiar party of adventurers, newly formed and heading to their first mission together…
Reese: (Goblin Artillerist Artificer. Crime: Mass Destruction of Public and Private Property.) Are we there yet???
Party: *Groan in annoyance*
May: (Dark Heritage Half-Elf Gloomstalker Ranger. Crime: Vigilantism and Murder.) Reese, I promised you already. The second we are there, you are the first I will be telling. Now please… shush.
Reese: But we’ve been traveling forever!
Adam: (Minotaur Champion Fighter. Crime: Insurrection and Banditry) *Growls* It’s only been three days.
Cinder: (Tiefling Fiendish Pact Warlock. Crime: Soul Racketeering and Organizing a Cult without a Permit.) It probably only feels so long because of your incessant whining.
Neon: (Tabaxi Kensei Monk. Crime: B&E and Assault with a Deadly Weapon) You should, like, totally take a note from Neo's book. She’s barely said anything this whole trip.
Neo: (Changeling Arcane Trickster Rogue. Crime: Grand Larceny and Identity Theft) *Flips Neon off.*
Reese: *Grumbles* Well maybe next time Sir Shiny-Pants should pick a closer quest! Where is he anyways?
May: I think he went off to pray.
Cinder: *Chuckles* Pray for mercy, maybe. Who ever heard of a knight with motion sickness?
Neo: *Makes some mocking dry heaving motions and then conjures an illusion of sparkles flying from her mouth.*
Adam: *Huffs* To think, our fate is in the hands of that human. My soldiers would never let me live it down.
Neon: Meh, at least he seems harmless enough. We could have been put with a real hard ass. I give it a week before we bully him into releasing us early.
Party: *Snickers and jeers amongst themselves*
Jaune: (Human Oath of Redemption Paladin. Duty: Redeeming the Party Before the Eyes of the Law and the Sovereign Gods.) *Jogging up after meditating to calm down his motion sickness* Hey everyone! Did some tell a funny joke or something?
Cinder: Oh just the usual banter. Nothing you’d find amusing I’m sure.
Reese: KNIGHT ARE WE THERE YET?!
Cinder: See?
Jaune: Actually, yes Reese. We should be there in like 10 minutes. *Points over pass them* Should be just over that big hill.
The Party: *Various sighs of relief.*
Reese: See?! I knew it was a valid question!
May: So, what are we going to be doing here?
Neon: Yeah, and how exactly is this “Redemption Quest” even supposed to work? Are we, like, building karma points or something til you let us go?
Neo: *Casts Minor Illusion to create a scoreboard with 100 points above her head.*
Jaune: Well, to complete a Redemption Quest, you six will have to complete a good deed with pure of heart in order to make up for your past sins. I’ll be there to watch over your progress and help usher you to the path of good and get you pardoned for your crimes.
Cinder: And so you’re sending a bunch of convicted criminals to do quests for the state.
Adam: Yeah, what are we, some kind of Suicide Sq-?
Jaune: NO! No. We are “Adventurers”. A group of adventurers who most of which just so happen to have darker paths…
May: That still doesn’t answer the question of why we’re going to Greennest. Is there a quest already decided for us?
Jaune: There should be. We’ll be meeting a man in Greenest that goes by the name Qrow Branwen. Apparently he needs help with an investigation.
Neon: What is he investigating?
Jaune: I’m not too sure. Something about bandits I think? But don’t worry, I’m sure it’s nothing too dangerous. The Church wouldn’t give out something big or important for a “Redemption Quest,” or to a squire of my level. All you will probably have to do is help out however you can and we will get you all pardoned in no time! Simple as that.
Narration: Sundown is approaching just as the caravan crests the hill and spots the town of Greenest just a few short miles away. But instead of the pleasant welcoming town they expected, the Party sees columns of smoke rising from burning buildings, running figures that are little more than dots from this distance, and a dark winged shaped wheeling low over the stone keep that rises from the center of town. The red skies of sunset turn a violent purple as the far off dragon breathes lightning bolts down onto the town.
The Party: …
Jaune: …Well. This may be-
Adam: *Bellows at the top his lungs and charges off towards the town.*
Neon: *Runs after him* I’m getting that pardon first!
Reese: *Runs* Jokes on you shitheads, I’m getting DOUBLE pardoned!
May: *Rolls her eye and chases after them* That’s not how pardons work.
Cinder: *Rushes forward* If you see any extra souls lying around, save them for me!
Neo: *Gleefully runs towards the town to start looting.*
Jaune: *Stands there watching as his half a dozen criminals run into a burning town.* …Boldrei give me strength.
