Even more back on theme – tales, and how they provide solace.

(Meaning I got the mental image of a Gnome-cap bonnet giving tunnel vision to someone reading, and HAD to draw it, and of course Tock herself claimed the idea. Ahahaha.)

If there was ever an example of "God is in the details," it's the line that opens this show: "Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd." Detail 1: the use of "attend" to mean "listen to" is just archaic enough to tell the audience that this will be a period piece. Detail 2: the idea of a "tale" suggests that the audience not take the story realistically but as a fable, and opens them up to accept the bizarrerie of the events which follows; it also promises a story that will unfold like a folk ballad, foreshadowing the numerous choruses of the song that will pop up during the course of the evening. Detail 3: the alliteration on the first, second and fourth accented beats of "Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd" is not only a microcosm of the AABA form of the song itself, but in its very formality give the line a sinister feeling, especially with the sepulchral accompaniment that rumbles underneath it. If all of that seems like the kind of academic hyperanalysis which regularly shows up in studies of literary forms, I can assure you that even if the audience is not consciously aware of such specific details, they are affected by them.

It's a year today since I got the keys for my flat! I feel so incredibly lucky to be able to be a homeowner, so I want to mark the occasion by giving to people who are without the safety and comfort a home should provide.

My itch store has digital copies of all my books (for half the price of print copies) including several that are now out of print. It is also the only place to get the special digital versions of my goblin zines, which have loads of art and writing you can't get elsewhere!

I hope you'll consider getting some of my silly little books to help an important cause, this felt like the best way to mark the aniversary of getting a home of my own, as I don't have much money to give hopefully donating my shop income will help boost the difference it makes!

Seeking therapy in America is countless hours of calling people on the phone who are mad at you for calling them and for being poor until you finally find something somewhere and they make you fill out a bunch of forms that are like "Greetings, Citizen! Are you worried about Wrongthink? Take this survey to see how Wrong you are" and then you might get to talk to somebody and it's a coin flip whether they'll be remotely competent at their job or even a halfway decent person. And of course this is the best system and it works very well.
