Not gonna lie I read the new Emperor's Children short story, went to pick up Lord of Excess but decided to check something on my e-reader annnddd got side-tracked.
How side-tracked? I read the entire book Calgar's Siege.
To be fair, Calgar's Siege is a fun/good book. I might just have to write a review about it? Also the human cast wasn't bad either!
Took a brief pause from reading Emperor's Children things to take a look at the new Space Marine short stories released and tbh? Only two were "good", the ones for the Angels Vermilion and Iron Lords.
With the others it's a case of you swapped out any chapter and replaced them nothing would change. I know short stories are tricky because you have to keep them short but come on.
Worst was the Howling Griffons one though, mildly interesting set-up got ruined by "oh look! it's alpha legion! Why? Who knows!" and thus I wish I could throw it into the trash but I can't. Also the marines were kind of annoying. Not even in a fun way!
If I shake my recipe book I'm sure about a dozen sticky notes might appear! XD
Sometimes I read a recipe from White Dwarf and go "huh, maybe I'll try that out" and scribble it down on a sticky note to shove into the book. And god the forgetfulness is so real, that's why I started writing it all down, I just know I'll forget something!
Curious question for my fellow mini painters, do you have a recipe book? As in, a book where you write down the general steps/paints you used for certain models?
I keep one so I can try and be consistent across the factions I have painted though I know my mixes won't be 100% perfect. Doesn't have to be either so long they are close enough.
I've used sprues like that before! It really does help to keep some extra bits laying around for such reasons!
Also 10/10 lovely minis, love a good battletech mech!
