Well, this little stove is slow! Took 16 minutes to get to a boil. Its 42kmph windgusts here today so I think that kept it from boiling. A windscreen might help. I dont love this stove. When you put it away you're putting your canteen inside of it and the inside of it gets burnt all black every time you use the stove. I think if the fuel door were about twice as big you'd be able to get a decent sized fire going to boil 2cps in 10minutes in a strong wind.On a more positive note, I tested out the saw on my 111mm Swiss Army Knife and it seems to work pretty well for processing wood small enough for any of my packable stoves. I chopped it into thumb thickness pieces with my axe and then sawed it down to test the saw out and it works. I was craving the 2lb Lasagna from Eastside Mario's so I made my own. The centre 3 pieces are over 2lbs each. 4 layers of meat sauce and 2 layers of egg, cottage cheese and spinach. I used a lb. Good quality pizza mozza on top. Meat sauce made with love 1.5lbs LGB, .5lbs Ground spicy Italian sausage, 3 good quality pepperoni sticks, sliced, .5lbs of diced good quality salami, onion, garlic, fresh basil, dry oregano, red pepper, 1 can diced tomato, 1 can crushed tomato, .5cp merlot, sea s n p to taste. I heated up a jar of my home canned tomato sauce from last summer to top with some parm. It was a magnificent beast of a lasagna! Oh and I used plain old Catelli lasagna noodles and they were great! Only ONE noodle broke out of 2 boxes, they cooked perfectly. Went for a short hike and a bush lunch today. I made steak on the Firebox, green chili shrimp over my Pathfinder Alcohol Stove and red beans and rice over my PF Alcohol stove as well. The rice and beans was a mix that was actually really tasty. Everything was really good except I feel I could have cooked the shrimp less, they were a bit rubbery, but the flavor was great! I used my Stanley Basecamp Cookset and my Pathfinder Canteen Kettle with a surplus Esbit burner to boil my coffee water. What can I say, I love bush cooking! I like messing around with all the different stoves and pots and pans. It all cooked up.nicely considering it was 0c and a 20kph wind. MMM Coconut cake! I was able to salvage the cake. I had to cut the bottom off it got too dark. But it baked nice inside and came right out of the pan. I'd definitely try that backpacking. The cake is fluffy, coconutty and delicious! Baked over a Self Reliance Outfitters, Pathfinder Alcohol stove, using my Stanley Dutch Oven as an oven and two Coleman messkit pans as cake pans. Got my Bat Coffee and I've got a coconut cake baking in the Stanley Dutch oven. Using a modified Coleman messkit as cake pans. It's a made up recipe with small proportions for baking while backpacking. Once its perfected I want to post a step by step video of how it's made. Heavy crust from all the brown sugar, maple syrup and smoked paprika that was in the rub. The bark was a little too dry for me but it is still very tasty. Tested out my new tall windshield and new Trangia meths stove. 10min for 700ml of water to boil. Not too bad at all with an outside temp of 4c. I've had this pot for about a year now. Its stainless steel. It was a steal of a deal off Ebay and it's an excellent pot. The little barrel smoker runs hot! It got up over 300f and I only want it at 250f -275f. I closed some of the vents part way and the temp seems to be going down to a more steady 275f now. I shovelled all the coals to the left under the water. I'll only use 2/3rds of the coal I used this time, next time. I'm also using larger chunks of hickory which I really prefer to the chips as the larger chunk smolders away for a longer period of time whereas the chips seem to burn up fairly quickly. I'm having a good time figuring out this new smoker!
