I can just be and he can just be and we're together not out of need, but out of choice.
Because being together is an additionnal happiness, not a vital requirement I will be responsible for (in addition to all the things I am already responsible for).

see I really love the "we never got the timing quite right", "in another life" and "almost lover" aspects of codywan. Though I read most if not all versions of codywan, so many, every day— the pining and longing part of it, is really my favourite.
It's the staring at one another just a moment too long when they think they can get away with it,
the lingering touches and the unnecessary ones.
The hyper awareness of the other's presence.
It's the pain of sharing whispers of affection or vulnerability in moments of weakness (nightmares, panic attacks, grief, existential crisis) and having to go back to pretending nothing at all occurred the next time they see each other.

My friend convinced me to post the au idea so here goes nothing.
Due to some misunderstanding the men on 212th come to the conclussion that Kenobi and Jango Fett were married (possibly shinies overhearing Cody mentioning that Kenobi 'visited' Jango on Kamino and it spirals down from there). With Fett now gone and the clones worried about their General's loneliness they decide, that given they are clones of Jango, they should step up as substitue husbands.
All of them.
Ofc nobody informs Kenobi (or Cody) about this mission which only leads to more misunderstandings as the clones try to act out romantic gestures.
Romantic dinner? -> they shove Kenobi in a closet that is only lit by candles with dinner -> Kenobi interprets it as a very forceful signal that his men worry he isn't eating enough.
Handholding? -> whenever a clone is walking in the same direction as the jedi they grab his hand and wordlessly walk with him down the corridor until Kenobi slips out his hand out of theirs -> Obi wa assumes this is some random spike of protectiveness after his less than successful fight with grevious last week.
Flowers? -> after a mission on a planet lush with flowers each clone picks Kenobi a sizable bouquette and the jedi returns to a room willed with all of his tea cups actict as flower vases -> is this some comment about his tea addiction?
BONUS: Unfortunatelly all of the clones effort only seem to make the General more uneasy, so they decide to ask for help the only other adult jedi who they meet regulary - Anakin. Except they explain it poorly and Anakin comes to the conclussion thay the clomes figured out his marriage. This only leads to more horrible ideas on how to properly 'romance' Kenobi
BONUS 2 (Codywan): through all of this Cody and Obi wan are dancing around dating each other and the vod are not helping. No one bothered to tell Cody about their plan of being substitute husbands to Obi Wan.
