Let's jump back to the past on this date-31/08/1957- shall we?
youtube
Let's have a brief recap on what happened during that day!
The festivities were transferred to the recently finished Merdeka Stadium early on August 31, 1957. The ceremony, which got underway at 9:30 am, was seen by more than 20,000 people. Leaders of the Malay states, foreign dignitaries, federal cabinet members, and civilians were present. The Duke of Gloucester, who was the Queen's agent, gave Tunku Abdul Rahman the declaration of independence. After reading the Proclamation of Independence, Tunku concluded by leading the audience in chanting "Merdeka!" seven times. The national song was played by a military band as the national flag of Malaya was raised, followed by a 21-gun salute, an azan call, and a prayer of appreciation for this occasion.
Now let's do a small writing activity...
In your own words, write a 100 word short essay on the importance of independence for our country. Students are allowed to access the Google Doc Link to write their essays with their names attached.
