We learned about community helpers on the last school visit to the Northvail 2nd Graders!  First we read about a few community helpers...
Can I Be Your Dog? by Troy Cummings Arfy is a hound on a mission! Bound and determined to find a home, Arfy writes letters to everyone on Butternut Street. Honestly, he’s the best dog you could ever want. He’s obedient! He’s housebroken! He even has his own squeaky bone! Who will adopt Arfy in the end? You’ll never guess!
Miss Moore Thought Otherwise: How Anne Carroll Moore Created Libraries for children by Jan Pinborough Examines the story of how librarian Ann Carroll Moore created the first children's room at the New York Public Library.
Then we brainstormed other community helpers and picked one to think about more in depth by answering the questions below.
My community helper:
What does my community helper do?
How does that person help the community?
What equipment does he/she need?
Describe the uniform.
