Cowboy like me pt2
Summary: Percy knows a thing or two about letting go of the bigger fish you’re after and he won’t see you go now the road he almost went down with the briarwoods.
A/N: Honestly and emotional pairing that would be good for each other. Definitely would be a slow burn romance if I had the time to write more. Glad I can end it with hopes of more for these two.
Part 1 if you haven’t read it yet.
Tumblr media
Fancy parties and dresses were a luxury I hadn’t seen in a while, but I wasn't here for the party. My bigger fish had taken me all the way to Emon, all the way to this celebration. I sneered in my inner thoughts. The man they were celebrating tonight was the man responsible for my brother's death. Lornak Syfe, he currently served on the Tal’Dorei council as the master of development, but I know. This man was not what he seemed.
He stood at the top of the stairwell, it was fairly crowded as people moved up and down talking about their rich people's things. My eyes stayed focused on Syfe as I slipped through the crowded, drink in hand, blending in. I was coming so close to what I had been searching for these last few years.
Before I could cross the rest of the distance to the stairwell, a hand slipped its way around my waist, pulling me away and towards the dance floor. “Just over this way.”
I turned, my eyes burning with anger at the person to drag me away from my target. “Percy?” There was venom in my tone, with a bit of fury, “what are you doing here?”
He took my drink out of my hand and placed it on a passing waiter's tray. He stopped pulling me along and turned to face me, keeping one hand on my waist as he took my hand in the other. “We,” he said firmly, “are dancing.”
I finally took stock that he had pulled me out to the dance floor. “Percival, I don’t have time for this.” I tried to pull away, but he only held me in position.
“I can see that, but I highly recommend that you hear me out first.” I watched as his eyes stayed tracked on Syfe. Percy continued to keep us dancing to the music, even as I was still hesitant.
“What are you really doing here, De Rolo?”
“Apparently stopping an assassination attempt.” I rolled my eyes.
“You don’t know my plans, maybe I just came here to speak to him.” He gave me a knowing glare.
He sighed, “I’m here with the rest of Vox Machina, they’re over by the drinks table close to drunk enough to cause a scene. I saw you and I could tell from your face something might be amidst. I couldn’t just sit back and not try to stop you, what kind of gentleman would I be?”
“We both know you’re no gentleman, Percival.” He gave you a weak smile. “That man killed my brother Percy, you can’t stop me from getting justice for that.”
“And I won’t, but this isn’t Justice (y/n), this is revenge. It costs more than you know.”
I swallowed my anger and brushed off the topic. “So what, you and Vox Machina frequent formal private council events now. I know you enjoy playing diplomat, but I thought the rest of your crew were above that.”
“We’re honorary members of the council.”
“Since when?”
“Since we killed a dragon.”
My eyes widened in shock, “you guys?”
“You know, we are actually quite capable when we use our brains, we just choose not to on most days.” I almost laughed.
“What happened to your brother?”
I gritted my teeth. “The Clasp.”
“The crime syndicate?”
I nodded. “My brother worked on one of Syfe project sites, he noticed some money was missing from the project. Syfe has been using these projects to fund his own personal expenses and paying off some debts to the Clasp. My brother was collecting evidence, he was going to report him when the Clasp shut him up on Syfe’s orders.”
“Your brother sounds like a good man.”
“He was.”
“Then he wouldn’t want you compromising yourself just for revenge.”
“He wouldn’t have wanted to die either, sometimes good people don’t get what they want.” I kept my eyes turned as I saw Syfe turn down a hallway heading to a secluded area of the party.
“You can’t do this (y/n), it's not justice, you know that. You’ll lose yourself.”
I couldn’t take it, I pulled away from him to stop dancing. I needed to get to Syfe while he was secluded, before he came back to the party. “What do you know about revenge, Percival? Who says I have to lose myself to get what I have wanted for four years now. I'm so close, why stop here?”
He grabbed my arm to stop me as I began heading up the stairs. “You know I understand better than anyone what it’s like. That hatred that fills you, I know it like the back of my hand. If you kill him, it won’t go away, it will just grow stronger.”
I stopped as I felt the tears burn behind my eyes. I swallowed hard as I turned around to face him. He had a soft look on his face, it showed just how much of this feeling he understood. “What do you suggest I do?”
“Your brother was collecting evidence, right? Do you know what he found? We could collect it and take it to the other members of the council. They’ll hear us out, they trust Vox Machina.”
“Are sure that would be enough? Putting him away in prison for what he did?”
“Sometimes I'm unsure, knowing the person who took it all away from you still breathes. But the alternative, letting them take what’s left, away from you.” He leaned in closer, reaching out to tuck a strand of my hair away behind my ear. “Letting them take you away, that’s just not an option.”
I swallowed and processed his words as I came to terms with him being right. I finally really looked at the man in front of me. “You’ve changed since I last saw you.”
“Let’s just say I found my bigger fish.”
“Did you get your revenge?” He knew what I meant, did he kill his Syfe
“The people responsible for my parents' death, what's left of them, is sitting in a cell where she will stay the rest of her life? I won’t to lie to you, I would have killed her if it weren’t for Vox Machina. I almost did, but if I had gone through with my revenge, I would be dead right now. They saved me, I owe them everything.”
“Well, I guess that means I owe you then.” I watched as he sighed and relaxed. He smiled as he linked our arms together, leading me away from the stairway.
“Looks like we need to get to work.” He said as we watched Syfe enter the party.
“Does that offer to join Vox Machina still stand?”
“Always.” He said quickly before he began stuttering. “I mean, I'm sure we can find room for you somewhere on the team.”
“Might not be so bad.” I smiled.

Cowboy like me
Summary: Having worked as a freelancer in Emon you’ve run into Vox Machina and their shenanigans on a handful of occasions. Often you feel drawn into their chaos and to one of their particular steampunk aesthetic members. But maybe that’s because you have more in common than one might think.
A/N: So what I’m using some Taylor Swift song inspiration this year. It’s fun I got some good ones lined up for it too.
Tumblr media
Maybe it was fate that I landed in this one small-town tavern, it certainly couldn’t have been luck. I had just been in town running “errands”, small gigs that didn’t take me too far off my desired path. This one was just a simple retrieval of a missing wedding ring, perhaps the man should have held on to it a bit tighter the last time he was here, but that wasn’t for me to say.
“Yeah, I found that one last week, but I put it with the other things that have gotten left here over the years. You’ll have to give me a minute to find it.”
“Take your time,” I said, tossing the barkeep a few spare coins for the effort.
I sat down, taking hold of my glass and staring at the wall behind the bar.
“(y/n)?”
I was surprised to even hear my name in a place like this, but his face was easily recognizable once I turned around. “Percy?”
He shook his head almost in disbelief, “I really didn’t think we’d ever run into you again. How long has it been?”
“Let’s see, the last time was the mimic case, so a while, I guess. So the whole crew is here then?”
“Oh yes, think I could leave them unsupervised?” He nodded his head in the direction of where a few members of his found family set, most of them drunker than they ought to be. “We were just passing through looking for work. You know how it is.”
“Tell me about it.” I said, turning back to stare at the wall.
“How are you handling these days?” He said, taking the seat next to me.
“I take the odd job for the money, I make ends meet, but I’m looking for bigger prey presently.”
“Bigger prey?”
“Story for another day.”
“And what might you do once you track down this bigger prey?”
“You don’t have to worry about me, Percival, I got some tricks up my sleeve.”
“You can call me Percy, you know?”
“I know,” I smiled while drinking from my glass.
“Well, the offer always still stands to join Vox Machina if you ever want the company.”
I tried not to smile at the offer. “Is that offer from the whole group, or just you?” He tried to hide the smile and light blush from my suggestion. “Can’t, a group like yours might just slow me down. Honestly, I’m shocked you're still with them.”
“Why do you say that?” I turned looking at him, he had a deep crease in his brow, questioning me. Almost like he was trying to figure out a puzzle.
“You may play the gentleman Percival, but I can read it in your eyes, you're just another cowboy. And like any true cowboy, you’re really after one thing.”
“And what is that?”
“Revenge.”
“What makes you think I want revenge?”
“Call it a woman's intuition.” Just as I took a long sip finishing my drink, the barkeep came back with the ring in hand.
“Here you go, miss.”
“Thank you, kind sir.” I smiled, pocketing the ring and standing up to leave.
“You’re going to leave already? At least let me buy you a drink,” Percy tried.
“I got what I came for, it’s time I head out.”
“You know, (y/n), you’re not as mysterious and cool as you think you are.” I raised my eyebrow, questioning where he was going with this.
He stood up, standing closer this time. “You're a woman on a mission.”
“Pray tell, dear Percival, what is that mission?”
He smiled, leaning in closer. “It's obvious, dear (y/n). You’re a cowboy, just like me.”
I tried to play it off with a shake of my head as I started walking toward the door.
“Hey (y/n)!” Percy shouted from across the room. “Good luck with your bigger prey” He smirked before he turned back to his friends.
As I left the bar, I could feel the goosebumps on my arms, shaking my head. Oh, y/n you are playing a dangerous game getting distracted like this. You’ve been there before, just run before it's too late. It still blows my mind how he could just read and call me out like that, but I guess it takes one to know one. But by now I should know to stay away from cowboys.

If I wrote a Steve Harrington x reader series would you guys read it?
It would go through the seasons, in hopefully not to much detail cause we’ve all seen the show we don’t need the entire thing again written out but like I would just do the parts relative to the reader and Steve.
Probably make Eddie and the reader friends in the begin. Do some fun enemies to lovers with Steve. Maybe set them up as neighbors

APPARENTLY NOBODY HAS MADE ANY MASTERS OF DEATH POSTS
so here I am having to fulfill my own hearts deepest desires myself. Gonna fill up all the tags to get people to read this book
Tumblr media
Types of people who should read this book
If you’re a good omens fan like me and are struggling with the ineffable husbands divorce this book is for you
If you like stories about death, literally about death as in like the entity that collects souls.
If you like vampires or angels or demons or reapers or lore for creatures you’ve never even heard of
If you like a romance where both counter parts are immortal chaotic bastards who have both been wallowing in self pity over love for the last century or two
If you like romance where both counter parts are actually sweet hearts but are dicks to each other and in denial of their feelings
If you like romance between two sweet hearts who are sweethearts and would never dare hurt each other.
Yes there are multiple romance sub plots. Hints at sex or morning after but not spicy.
You enjoy happiness
This book is a nice read, I describe it as a short story with just a lot of build up and background information. Almost as if you’re supplied with everyone’s life story just for it to build up to this crossover where you must understand everyone’s motivations and wants.
In masters of death there is a game that immortals play where there is only one rule, don’t lose. In the story you have Fox who was raised by death himself, their dynamic is the best thing I’ve seen. Death consistently calls Fox out as a little shit. Viola a vampire real estate agent who failing to sell a haunted house with an annoying ghost in it. Mayra the Angel who is in love with Cal the reaper, Brandt the knows it all the thief and Isis the demon who honestly is just there to watch the chaos.
You’ll follow the book in a dizzying head spin as it reveals so much about each characters past, present and their deepest wants. There will be huge reveals and low kicking cuts as the story progresses and not mention lots of jokes and gags that were just too damn funny. Did I mention the philosophical moral of the story about the meaning of life? It’s as if it were a brother’s Grimm tale (which Fox and deaths story is based on) or a legend of heroics almost too good to be true.
So just freaking read it already before I spoil too much.

Not The Same Without You – Steve Harrington
Tumblr media
Being Steve Harrington's childhood best friend is not easy. You've got Tommy and Carol, Steve's team, and the rest of the school against you. Everyone thinks he's crazy for hanging out with me.
Something you should know about me - I'm your stereotypical bookworm. I never go to school without at least two books in my bag in case I finish the first one. I choose to spend my lunch period and free period in the library reading. I am on a first-name basis with the librarian at our school and at the library down the street from my house.
No one understood why Steve would hang out with someone like me. And if I was being honest, I didn't understand it either.
It made more sense when we got to high school. He stopped talking to me when we started freshman year. I didn't mind. I was starting not to like all the attention our friendship got. I got tired of the sneer comments, the scoffs, and the glares. We had this big talk the weekend before we started freshman year.
~•~
"Y/N?" Steve said, sounding strange. "Can we talk about something? Something that I'm pretty sure is going to make you hate me?"
"Nothing could make me hate you, Steve," I said honestly. "What's up?"
"Well," he said, clearing his throat, "we start high school on Monday."
"That's true," I said when he paused.
"And I'm on the basketball team," he continued slowly. "The team and all the practices and the games are going to take up a lot of my time."
"Steve?" I pushed. "What are you trying to say?"
"Maybe it's better if we don't hang out in high school," he blurted out. My heart jumped into my throat as I stared at him. I could barely see it, but there was a little bit of guilt in his eyes.
"Is that what you want?"
Steve opened and closed his mouth, struggling to answer me. I studied his eyes, trying to see if this was what he really wanted.
"Yes," he said, his voice dropping.
"Okay," I said as I stood up and started slipping on my shoes.
"Okay?" Steve stuttered. "You're really. . . You're okay with this?"
"Not really," I shrugged, not facing him. "But if it's what you want. . ."
I gasped when Steve grabbed my wrist and spun me toward him. "I'm sorry, Y/N," he whispered. "I just. . . I was. . . I thought. . . I'm sorry."
"I understand," I said, my voice dropping. "At least, I can pretend to."
~•~
When my parents found out that I was no longer hanging out with Steve, they tried to hide how relieved they were. My parents have never really liked Steve. They were always worried that his bad habits would rub off on me.
So, for the last three years, I've gone through high school alone - not that I minded. I was fine by myself. I've always been fine with it. Steve was the first person who tried to enter my life and I let him.
Six months into our senior year, my insomnia got really bad. AP exams were only a few weeks away and the stress made my insomnia worse. I slipped on a light jacket and headed downstairs. I walked out to our backyard and started walking along the path that went behind our house to a nearby park.
"You shouldn't be out here by yourself, Y/N," came a familiar voice. "It's dangerous."
"Steve?" I said, my eyes adjusting to the flashlight he had shining on me. "What are you doing here? It's 2 am."
"I knew you'd be up," he tried to say lightheartedly.
"And you walked all the way over here?"
"No," he said with a small laugh. "I drove to your house but saw you sneak out the back. Insomnia keeping you up?"
"Yeah," I said slowly. "It always does. That's nothing new."
"I know," he said. "Is there nothing you can do to help with it?"
"Steve, what are you doing here?" I asked instead of answering him.
"I used to come over like this all the time," he shrugged.
"True," I said, "but that was almost four years ago. We haven't talked since then. Be honest, Steve. What is going on?"
"Come with me."
"What? Steve, you can't be serious. It's two in the morning and. . ."
"Please," he cut me off. His tone made me freeze. "Y/N, I really need. . . I just. . . I need to get out of here and I want you to come with me. Just for a little while. Please, Y/N. Please come with me. I promise to get you home before your parents wake up."
"What's wrong?" I asked, my voice softening as I took a step closer to Steve.
I hadn't noticed that I was rubbing my arms until Steve took off his jacket and draped it over me. I held my breath as he started to pull his hands back. He hesitated for a second, like he was going to grab my hand, but decided against it at the last minute.
"Please, Y/N," he whispered. "I need you to come with me. I just. . . I need you."
One look at his eyes and I knew this was serious.
"Where to, Harrington?"
* * * * *
As we drove to only Steve knew where, he didn't say anything. The radio softly played as we drove through town. I kept glancing at him, wishing he'd say something.
After four years of silence, Steve randomly showing up outside my house at 2 in the morning was weird. Not to mention the fact that he was taking me somewhere and hadn't said anything since we got in the car.
"Steve," I whispered, "can you please tell me where we're going? I'm. . . I'm starting to get a little nervous."
"I'm sorry," he sighed. "I know this is strange but. . . I can't really explain it. I've been struggling lately and I was trying to figure out what to do. The only thing I could think of was you. I needed to see you, Y/N. I know you don't owe me anything but. . ."
"It's okay," I gently cut him off. "I just want to know where we're going."
Steve looked over at me and sent me the Harrington Smile that has all the girls in our school falling head over heels for him.
"Somewhere we haven't been in a long time."
It wasn't for another ten minutes that I realized where we were. When I figured it out, I glanced over at Steve. The butterflies in my stomach went crazy when I saw his smirk.
"I haven't been here since. . ." I couldn't remember the last time I was here.
There is a spot in this mountain called Makeout Point that all the teenagers know about. Steve and I found this spot on the other side of the mountain and it's always been our spot. Steve parked the car and we instantly walked over to the nearby picnic bench. We sat on the bench with our backs to the table.
I glanced over at him and, as he leaned forward with his elbows on his knees, I saw the weight pushing him down.
"Steve?" I whispered. "Please tell me what's going on."
He opened and closed his mouth, unable to admit it. When nothing came out, he ran his fingers through his hair.
"Y/N," he tried to start. "The thing is. . . I'm not sure why. . . It's hard to explain. . ."
I looked down to see Steve move his hands so they were now on the bench. Before I could talk myself out of it, I reached over and gently put my hand over his.
"Please, try," I said under my breath.
"I miss you," he rushed out. He looked up at me, surprise in his eyes.
"You. . ."
"I miss you, Y/N," he said, sounding more confident. "And I am so sorry. I'm sorry I left you and acted like I didn't know you once we started high school. I shouldn't have made you go through it alone. I should've been with you. I should've walked you to class on your first day and every day after. I should've sat with you in the library every lunch and free period. I should've been a better friend to you, Y/N, and I'm really sorry."
"Steve," I stuttered.
"I hate that I walked away from you," he continued. "I hate that I turned my back on you and never turned back. I wish, more than anything in the world, that I could do something to make it right. Can I? Can I fix what I did, Y/N? Can I fix this? Can I do something to make things go back to what they were before? Tell me how I can make it up to you. I'll do anything, Y/N."
"I don't know," I stuttered, my voice soft. "I mean. . . Senior year is almost over. And then who knows what we're going to do after but. . ."
Steve leaned over and pressed his lips to mine. Neither one of us deepened the kiss, but neither one of us broke it either. When we finally broke the kiss, my head was swimming. Steve was smiling softly at me.
"The past couple of years without you," he whispered, his face inches away from mine, "have been the worst years of my life. Every day, I wake up wishing I hadn't suggested we stop hanging out. Every day, I sit in class and try to figure out what I could say or do to fix what I screwed up. I can't live without you, Y/N. The truth is, I don't want to live without you. Not another day."
As he was talking, Steve scooted closer to me. When he finished, he reached up and gently cupped my cheek in his hand and pulled me closer.
"Not another day," he repeated as he pressed his lips to mine. This kiss was deeper than our first. When we broke this one, Steve leaned his forehead against mine.
"Y/N. . ."
"Steve," I cut him off. "This isn't. . . I just. . . This isn't as easy as you're making it sound."
"I know," he said instantly. "I know it's not going to be easy. But I'm willing to do the work. I mean it, Y/N. I will do anything and everything to make it up to you. Anything you want, anything you ask, I'll do it. I haven't been the same without you, Y/N. I need you in my life. Please don't let me go another day without you."
"I don't want to go another day without you," I whispered.
Steve, overcome with happiness, grabbed my hips and pulled me onto his lap. I gasped as he put his hand on the back of my neck and pressed my lips to his. I moaned as our lips moved messily in sync.
"Say it again," he moaned as he broke the kiss. I leaned back and gently held Steve's face in my hands.
"I don't want to go another day without you, Steve Harrington," I said, watching the lust build in his eyes. "So, please, don't let me go another day without you."
"You never have to go another day without me."
He was about to kiss me again, but I put my hands on his chest, stopping him.
"Steve," I whispered.
"What's wrong, baby?" He said softly.
"You promised to get me back before my parents woke up."
"Right," he chuckled as he reached up and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear, his hand lingering. "Let's get you home."
I got off his lap and he instantly grabbed my hand, walking me back to his car. The entire drive back into town, my thoughts on the events of tonight.
We pulled up to my house and instantly looked at each other. Steve leaned over and pressed his lips to mine. I smiled as I moved our lips against his. He broke the kiss and leaned his forehead against mine.
"Not another day," he whispered.
"Nope," I giggled. "Not another day."
Steve kissed me again before finally letting me get out of his car. I quietly slipped back into my room without my parents noticing. As I lay in bed and tried to calm the butterflies in my stomach, I had one more thought.
My parents weren't going to be too thrilled about this.

This is The Way
Summary: right after the ending season two, din having just removed his helmet. The reader comforts din as he struggles with not knowing how to go on without the child or his creed.
A/N: I just rewatched the show and I just really want to know what happened the second the screen went dark. Did anyone say something. Did he immediately put the helmet back on. Was it an awkward car ride home as they all just set silently like can’t believe we fought to save the kid and now he doesn’t even get to keep it. It’s just wrong man.
Tumblr media
I stood watching as Luke disappeared into the elevator carrying the child away with him, leaving nothing, but an awkward silence as the door shut.
Dins shoulders tensed, his back straightened. I didn’t know how to approach him with his helmet removed.
We both knew our goal was to find a Jedi to reunite Grogu with, but we spent so much time just fighting to get him back, neither of us thought we’d have to give him away so quickly. Din continued to just stare off at the door like he wasn’t quite sure this was real.
I looked around at our assembled friends and allies, realizing no one really knew what to say. Everyone seemed to be waiting for some sort of command as to what to do next.
“Can you guys give us a minute?”
Bo Katan nodded. “We’ll make our way back to prepare the ship, you guys can meet us when you're ready. We’ll secure the prisoner while we’re at it.”
I nodded and watched them all leave down the same hall as Luke and Grogu just a moment ago. They were probably already back to his ship at this point and ready to start a new life off somewhere far away. It broke my heart to even think about it presently.
“Din?” I almost whispered, breaking the silence. He twitched, uncomfortable and unsure without his helmet on.
I walked closer and carefully placed my hand on his shoulder. He relaxed into the touch, but he still stayed facing away. “Din, it’s okay, you can look at me.”
“I’ve broken my creed.”
“I know.” I said lightly. It was against the creed to remove his helmet. He had already done it once before, but that was under dire circumstances and was done in hopes of saving a foundling, which Mandalorian deemed more important than almost anything. But this, this he did willingly for the child.
“I just… I wanted him to see me before he left. To really see me before he was gone.”
“I understand Din, it’s okay. I think it was very noble of you. It was a beautiful parting gift.”
“But now I have nothing.”
I felt a slight sting at those words. I had been traveling with the Mandalorian since he stopped on Tatooine with the child for the first time. Back then he was still running from Greef Karga. We weren’t together, but I traveled with him, fought with him. I had saved his life, and he had saved mine in more ways than one. I was his friend, and deep down I’ve always wanted something more.
“I miss him too, but you still have me. I might not be much, but I’m not leaving you, creed or no creed.”
He finally turned around, a slight embarrassment or even shyness in his demeanor. I had never seen Din’s face before. He had kind, warm brown eyes and was handsomer than I’d even imagined.
I couldn't help myself as I reached out and carefully placed my hand on his cheek, something I had done in moments of comfort even when he wore the helmet. “I always wondered what color those eyes were.” I smiled.
He placed his hand over mine. “You’re more than enough.” He paused, sighing before pulling away. “But I still believe in the Mandalorian way, I still believe it to be true.”
“Then put the helmet back on.”
“What?” He sighed, trying to walk away, “I can’t just put the helmet back on, it doesn't work like that.”
I picked it up from where it set off to the side and held it back out to him. “Then we will find the rest of the Mandalorians. You can put the helmet back on until we find them. We will ask for their forgiveness to see if they will redeem you. Whatever it is they want, we can do it. If not, you can take the helmet off and start sulking then.”
His brow furrowed as he looked at me. It was strange to be able to read his expressions. Even with the helmet, Din was always expressive, but seeing his face up close. It was like I was reading his mind, it almost felt too personal.
“We? You would do that for me? Search the galaxy for a dying race, just to help me restore my honor in a culture you don’t even take part in?”
“I mean, isn’t that what I’ve been doing all this time, helping you honor your creed by helping you protect the child?” I laughed slightly at the mention of the kid, the wound of losing him still fresh. Even if he was getting to be with his people again.
“Okay.”
“Okay?”
“Yes, we will seek the Mandalorians again. Together.”
I smiled, offering him the helmet back, but I could see in his eyes he was thinking about it before he took it from me.
“First there’s something I need to do.”
He crossed the distance to me, taking his helmet and pushing it off to the side. I opened my mouth to ask what was so important he needed to do it before he put the helmet back on. His gloved hands came up to cup my face as his lips met mine.
Shock set in first, followed by confusion in the first split second before I felt myself completely dissolve into him. My arms coming up around his neck, his hands traveling down to my hips locking me in tightly.
All those months on the razor, pining filled with awkward tense moments interrupted by the child. All those times when the heat in the room was intense, but neither of us saying or doing anything to act on it. Now the Mandalorian was kissing me like I was his dying wish.
When the kiss ended, both of us only pulled away enough to lean our foreheads together.
“I’ve been dying to do that.” He said almost jokingly.
“Oh yeah, what got in the way?” I quipped, getting him to laugh.
I left the warm embrace of his arms and reached over to grab the helmet from where Din had pushed it off to the side. He caught my arm as I did so, pulling me back to face him.
“Before you hand that to me, you need to know I’ve always loved you. Since the first day you stepped foot on my ship and I saw the way you cared for Grogu and me. Since the first time I saw you with a blaster, I have been fighting these feelings, knowing I can’t give you everything you want. If you agree to come with me to find the Mandalorians and I have my honor restored, I can’t remove my helmet again. I can’t offer you everything you deserve.”
I smiled, almost feeling tears coming to my eyes. “I love you, Din Djarin and I love you with or without that helmet. I’ll be happy to take any piece of you as long I get to be with you. No matter where we are or what we’re doing, as long as I know you love me, that will be enough. I know how much that creed means to you, how much your people mean to you, and I will never ask you to give it up when there’s still hope you can have your honor restored.” I picked the helmet back up and extended back to him. “This is the way.”
He nodded, taking the helmet and finally placing it back on his head, completing his armor once more. “This is the way.”

Jump, Then Fall
Summary: Having been friends with Jonathan for so long it’s getting harder to deny your growing feelings for each other without the fear of ruining your friendship. Jonathan x best friend reader, Friends to lovers, cute and fluffy
A/N: love the fictional trope but personally in real life I’m against dating your friends or at least your best friend. Like bro that is truly awkward if y’all break up cause you got to find a new best friend. Anyway this is my first Jonathan Byers fic and I’m just trying to get back in the habit of writing over Christmas break so hope y’all enjoy and expect more from me soon.
Tumblr media
Panic rushed in as you saw the clock beside your bed, you overslept. Not by much, but enough that you could only pray to get out to the bus in time. You ran around your room getting ready, forgoing breakfast and plenty of other things as you checked the time again. Grabbing your bag, you bolted out into the yard as you could just make out the bus at the bus stop a couple of houses down. You didn’t even make it halfway down your driveway as you watched it pull away, leaving you in the dust.
That was it, you were fucked. There was one last viable option, but you would have to catch him first. You grabbed your old rusted up bike and took off down the road to the Byers residence.
It wasn’t but a 10-minute bike ride, a ride you were quite familiar with. You spent half your time over at their house, ever since you were young, your parents could find you there on any given afternoon.
You felt so thankful to see your best friend's car still parked in his driveway, and you ditched your bike on the lawn. You knocked on the door winded from your bike ride and were happy to be greeted by Mrs. Byers.
“(Y/n), sweetie, what are you doing here?” She said, ushering you into the house.
“I missed the bus again, and I was hoping to catch Jonathan and get a ride to school.”
“He’s brushing his teeth. Here come in the kitchen, have you eaten yet?”
“No, I skipped breakfast in hope of saving time.” You sighed as the panic you felt since that morning began to disappear.
“Well, you got time now, so eat.” She commanded as she set you down at the table that still had eggs toast and bacon set out. Will was also sitting at the table eating his breakfast.
“Hey Will.”
“Hey (y/n), late again?”
“Yep,” you sighed as you fixed yourself a plate. “Whatcha working on?”
“It’s a scene from our latest campaign. We came across a salamander creature that almost got us, but luckily, I had a spell that saved us at the last minute.”
“Sounds like quite the quest,” you smiled, continuing to eat and listen as he filled you in on his latest campaign.
“Alright kid, you can finish your story later. You have to go brush your teeth.” Joyce said as she took Will's plate away, shooing him off down the hall.
Jonathan finally emerged into the kitchen ready for school. His hair was still a bit damp, and you tried not to notice. He wasn’t even shocked by your presence in his house. “Overslept?”
“Yep.” You nodded, taking note of how his voice was a bit deeper this early in the morning.
“What about that alarm clock I got you for Christmas?”
“Still slept through it, just by ten minutes, though.”
“I told you I can just give you a ride every day. You don’t have to ride the bus.”
“My parents are too proud to let me accept that offer and too stubborn to get me a car of my own.”
“How did you get here?”
“I rode my bike.”
“The old rusty one that can’t even stand up right?”
“The very same.”
He laughed, just a small little laugh. The same old usual small laugh you got from him, but it still hit you all the same.
“Will, hurry, we gotta go.” Jonathan called down the hall. You snapped yourself back to reality and stood up, thanking Mrs. Byers for the breakfast.
Jonathan dropped Will off at the middle school, and you couldn’t help, but admire how sweet he was with his brother.
He was telling you something now, speaking to you, telling you a story or something, but you were lost. Just staring at him, you do that a lot these days. You two have been friends for years, but you’ve always wanted more, always liked Jonathan. As you’ve gotten older, it's harder to deny how much you wanted to be with him. Even now, as he talked to you, all your brain could hear was “we should be together.”
“So you want a ride home in the afternoon or are you taking the bus back? I mean, I can give you a ride, and you just come back to the house for dinner tonight.”
How he hadn’t noticed yet how dazed you were around him, you had no idea. “Yeah, totally, sounds fun.”
The afternoon passed, and soon you found yourself laying on Jonathan's bed, ignoring your homework and choosing to instead stare at the ceiling.
“Have you figured out problem number 4?” Jonathan asked from where he sat on the floor beside the bed.
“No,” you laughed.
“Are you even trying?”
“Nope, I gave up when we started.”
He sighed, laughing as he tossed the books aside and plopped down on the mattress with you. “This math class is going to kill me. Who needs math anyway?”
“We do, apparently.”
You smiled, turning on your side to face him. He was smiling at you just the same, with his hair lightly falling into his face. You could feel your heart speed up as you reached out and brushed his hair out of his eyes. You loved moments like this, just you and him together where you’ve always been.
Things have been different for a while now. You both could feel it. The little brushes of hands had become a bit more frequent, comfortable silence in the extra bits of closeness like this. This couldn’t be one-sided, you thought.
Oh what a dumb thought because it was the last straw to push you forward as you lightly kissed Jonathan before you could change your mind.
You pulled away in shock, both of you staring at each with identical expressions. Both of you set up and slightly away from each other as you process.
“Did I just?”
“Yeah, I think so.”
“And we just?”
“Mmmhm.”
“I have been thinking about that all day.” You sighed, almost relieved.
“Really?” He seemed surprised.
“I mean, yeah.” You sat for a moment before you got the courage to look over at him. “Well say something.”
“I don’t know what to say. I… I mean, you’re my best friend (y/n).” Jonathan stood up and started pacing. “I mean, I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t been thinking about you that way, but I don’t know if that’s a good idea. I mean, you’re my best friend!”
“Well, maybe I want to be more than just your best friend. I’m sorry I shouldn’t have just kissed you randomly, but I think you want more too.” He didn’t respond and continued to pace.
You stood up and grabbed his hands. “Jonathan, will you just look at me.” You could see the worry in his eyes, you’d known him long enough to know he feared what this might mean. “Don’t forget, I can read your thoughts.” You joked. “Better you just say them out loud and save us both some time.”
“You know I like you too, but I would rather not ruin our friendship. Other than my mom and will you’re all I got. I mean, we’ve been best friends since we were kids, since as early as I can remember.”
“So? I have loved you since as early as I can remember. I would rather not mess this up either, but no one’s ever been there for me like you have. You mean a lot to me and I need you in my life, so I’m not going to let this get ruined. No one has ever cared for me the way you do.” You still held his hands in yours, tracing circles as you smiled reassuringly.
“And I liked to think I’ve been there for you, too. So I know it’s a bit risky, but I’m asking you to take a leap of faith with me. Jump, then fall into me.” Doing your best to smile, but a small bit of doubt creeped in. What if this was all in your head, and you pushed him too far this time and this wasn’t what he wanted.
Before those thoughts could carry you away in a downhill spiral, you felt his hands cup your face as he pulled you in for another kiss. Not a light brush like before, but a real deep kiss.
He pulled you in close, your hands resting on his chest as he kissed you. Only pulling away just enough to get air as you both rested your foreheads together.
“Just jump, then fall.” He repeated quietly. “Means you’ll catch me right.” He laughed, that same laugh that had you dazed just this morning. “Because if you're just going to drop me, I should just go.” He said, smiling as he attempted to pull away.
“Oh no you don’t” you laughed as you tugged him back into another kiss.
