Amazon Unveils a [Horrifying] Fanfic Publishing Platform
Today, Amazon announced the imminent launch of its newest endeavor, Kindle Worlds, a publishing platform for fanfiction. When I read the announcement, I was horrified, then angry, then sad. I want to take a moment to explain why this is such a tragedy.
I’ve lived in three houses (two in the same city) and an apartment and all in the same state and none of the washing machines and dryers were in the same place.
In the house I grew up in they were in the master bathroom, in the house I lived in in high school they were in the garage, in the house I’m in now they’re in the mud/laundry room, and in my apartment they were in the bathroom.
Could be based off of when the houses were built too. The first house was early 1900s so I assume it didn’t originally have the washer and dryer so they were likely added at a later date, likely when having them in the bathroom was a trend or likely it was easier to add in bathrooms in older homes because of the water lines already being there.
The second house was built in the 1950s, the apartment in the 1970s, and my current house in 2001.
I’ve been thinking a lot about accountability this morning and here’s what I’d like to see:
A lineup of every visible face inside the capitol building along with every visible face in a restricted area and the face of every cop who took selfies with the insurrectionists, opened a barrier for them or otherwise aided and abetted the attempted overthrow of the US Government.
An ID for every face.
In a country where the man who filmed a cop pepper spraying a child was arrested by a mob of cops at gunpoint and jailed on trumped-up charges (later dropped) and a woman who published COVID-19 statistics had her house raided using an illegally-obtained warrant, her computer equipment seized and her children held at gunpoint, let’s see what the real-world consequences are for the attempted overthrow of the US government.
if you support donald trump unfollow me. full stop. hopefully no trump supporters are dumb enough to think they’re welcome here, but seriously. gtfo my page. block me while you’re at it.
So I used to be a supernatural fan and I was a fan from season one when it first aired all the way back when to season nine when I stopped watching because I was burned out by the show and just tired of it.
Even though I no longer cared about Supernatural, I really feel for everyone who is upset because I have been there.
I do not even acknowledge that OUAT season 7 even exist and I know there are people who will disagree with me on that. I was a fan of How I Met Your Mother and we all remember that trash fire finale. I know people who were devoted to Game of Thrones and were furious over it.
So even though the only feelings I have for Supernatural are the nostalgia from when I watched it throughout my teenage years and it really meant a lot to me, I am really sorry you guys still invested in the show got this shit. You all deserved better. The actors deserved better.
Fuck canon and fuck the writers. Keep the fix-it fics going.
I want mental health to be so normalised that little children can tell their parents if they’re feeling mentally ill just like they would if they had a stomach ache or a fever.
I want mental health to be so normalised that school lets you go home after a panic attack episode like they do if you sustain an injury.
I want mental health to be so normalised that when someone’s in recovery the people around them ask for progress reports and send get well soon cards just like they would for any other sort of recovery.
I want mental health to be normalised because every mental health disorder is just as frightening, just as damaging as a life threatening injury and we pass people by every day who are so unwell in this sense but who don’t receive a fraction of the care they deserve just because mental health is unseen.
