the never-ending quest for more trivia about words
almost entirely work safe except for a swear now and then.most things are tagged. lot of podcasts, batman villains, and indie games atm. sometimes it is music? puzzles and riddles are always appreciated
I made that post that "OIAR's Category 1 is: Entities that tumblr will be attracted to and/or will twinkify," and I was joking...
...but listen, listen.
We've had incidents that were in emails and blog posts, and there's "Another fine day of writing nightmarish monsters that no-one could possibly be attracted to...Now to take a BIG sip of water and check Tumblr."
There is a nonzero chance that we are mere episodes away from CAT1BC - Desire -/- Disappearance for the stories of "The Blogger who loved monsters too much" given in a series of posts from the famous site, t-...uh, lumblr.
Greg: I'm prepared to look kindly on this if you could just do a sort of sound-alike, just to give me the vibe.
Nick: 🤔
Nick: aaaAaaaa mmm aaaaa🎵🎵❔
Greg: Come closer.
Nick: Do you really want me to?
Nick, into Greg's ear: ....
Nick: mm🎵
Greg: Keep going.
Nick: Can't remember ; ;
Dracula, May 9th:
"When we are married I shall be able to be useful to Jonathan, and if I can stenograph well enough I can take down what he wants to say in this way and write it out for him on the typewriter, at which also I am practising very hard."
I like to think that Jonathan and Mina proposed during a transcription exercise.
While dictating something, Jonathan got overwhelmed with love, and noted something like, 'The details of this case are being transcribed by the wonderful Miss Mina Murray, who I very much hope one day, if she would like, and if she feels the same, that is to say, could...do me the honor of becoming Miss Mina Harker?"
and/or
Mina, in taking notes for Jonathan, asks if he could check the accuracy of what she wrote down, and shows him that at the end of what she dictated, she wrote, "Will you marry me?"
While I was going through my old school papers today, I found one of those trick quizzes that high school teachers who think they're terribly clever like to hand out – you know, the ones with a long, complicated series of instructions where the first instruction is "read all instructions in full before following any instruction other than this one", and the final instruction is "disregard all instructions other than first instruction and this one", and you lose a point for each preceding instruction you actually carried out – and now I desperately need to come up with an in-universe rationale for an SCP Foundation containment procedure article to be structured that way.
May 8th: (and Dracula spoilers)
It was by this time close on morning, and we went to bed. (Mem., this diary seems horribly like the beginning of the "Arabian Nights," for everything has to break off at cockcrow—or like the ghost of Hamlet's father.)
Really struck that Jonathan brings up "Arabian Nights."
On one hand, this cements the comfort he felt in the library - it's always so lovely when a character in books - loves books!
But the idea of the One Thousand and One Nights, the storyteller Scheherazade who keeps extending her life by one night, and then another, and then another by the captivating stories she tells....feels very appropriate for Jonathan.
People have mentioned this before in the Big Book Club - Dracula might have changed his mind about when he was going to kill Jonathan to let him live a bit longer, and I like that reading. Jonathan seems like he outlives his original purpose that Dracula planned for him, and that's because Dracula finds Jonathan very entertaining! He spent the night talking to him, and the previous night asking him all sorts of questions. As long as Jonathan can continue to be entertaining until dawn, he'll get to live another day to tell more stories the next night.
