twilight zone episodes for fallout fans
fallout is in many ways a love letter to mid-century science fiction, the twilight zone alone being a major inspiration. here are some episodes i recommend starting with if you're a fallout fan - some explore reoccurring themes frequently seen in the fallout series, while others are more directly referenced by fallout.
i've omitted twist endings because i recommend going into these knowing as little about them as possible.
please feel free to add any episodes that you think i may have missed.
time enough at last
one of the most famous twilight zone episodes, and definitely one that's had a huge impact on fallout. an avid reader survives nuclear devastation and is delighted that the end of the world has finally given him time to do nothing but read.
the shelter
a nuclear attack warning goes off, and a community of friendly neighbors violently turn on the one family with a bomb shelter.
the old man in the cave
a post apocalyptic town is unquestionably reliant on a mysterious figure in a cave to discern whether or not their food is safe to eat. if you've played honest hearts you may be familiar with story of randall clark, which shares some parallels to this episode.
it's a good life
tranquility lane was heavily inspired by this very famous episode, where a mysteriously omnipotent child has eradicated the entire planet and eternally tortures the family members he's left alive.
third from the sun
two government employees conspire to steal a spaceship and escape to another planet as society inches towards the brink of nuclear war.
one more pallbearer
an eccentric millionaire lures three people who he believes had wronged him in the past into his underground bunker to convince them the world is ending and manipulate them into apologizing to him.
two
the sole survivors of a futuristic war, having fought on opposite sides, meet for the first time in the ruins of a city.
the monsters are due on maple street
another iconic episode, this time a heavy allegory for red scare paranoia in the form of a street-wide blackout that escalates to extraterrestrial hysteria.
mr denton on doosmday
the personification of fate gives a down-on-his-luck man a magical six-shooter that turns him into the fastest gunslinger in the west - with troubling consequences. big iron fans will like this one.

Sorry, your game looks cool, but the promotional material used the words "wholesome" and "cozy" so I gotta stick by my principals.

i think we should remind musicians they can absolutely make up little stories for their songs btw. it doesn’t have to be about them at all. you can invent a guy and put him in situations to music. time honoured tradition in fact.
