Agreed. Very nicely put, Badcode. Seems like words are your thing too...yes, that’s a reference to Taylor telling Karlie that words are her thing. I appreciate that you look to her entire catalog for not only the secret love motif but also the idea that there is an inherent disconnect and internal conflict that comes with being painfully closeted. When Chely Wright spoke about the music industry as being a “big machine”, it’s hard not to think of the irony of her former label’s name. It’s poetic, as is her way of writing that rings “more true” when given the proper, or better yet, the more likely alternative non-het context.
Hi, do you have any gay takes on King of my heart that you would like to share? I can't stop seeing the references to *** ***** and I hate it. Thanks!
Honestly I don’t really see any references to him beyond the extremely surface-level “king” (lmao) and i guess maybe a sort of british use of “fancy” as in “to like someone” but… everything else about that song is pretty explicitly about karlie imo and just full of extremely literal and not at all subtle references to their relationship.
Like even in the very first verse, “I’m perfectly fine, I live on my own / I made up my mind, I’m better off bein’ alone” makes zero sense with the established hetero timeline, given it’s well known that she supposedly met j*e at the 2016 met gala that she attended while she was still with c*lvin h*rris but where she also met and danced with t*m h*ddleston… honestly that whole timeline is such a mess especially considering she’d spent all of the previous few years emphasizing the fact that she didn’t need to always be in a romantic relationship and she never wanted to be the girl who jumped from boyfriend to boyfriend. i mean i have no moral judgments about that, it just makes no sense for her in that moment, but anyways the point is that first line of the song makes zero sense if we’re meant to believe the official het narrative
And that’s not even mentioning the fact that she was in the studio recording the track the literal same day she and karlie had their romantic skype date in the middle of a field overlooking a sunset with a vase of flowers for karlie’s 24th birthday on august 3, 2016, and given the fact that she didn’t ‘break up’ with t*m until september 2016 like… when did she have time to fall in love with and write this song about j*e huh??? literally WHEN. even the earliest possible time she and j*e could have potentially started dating was in october of that year, and at what point before she supposedly got together with j*e did she have time to make up her mind that she’s better off being alone? (after her breakup with dianna and before she met karlie, that’s when)
Anyways moving on. “We met a few weeks ago / Now you try on callin’ me ‘baby’ like tryin’ on clothes” — karlie is a literal supermodel whose job is trying on clothes. They met at the vsfs in 2013 where karlie was at that very moment doing her job of trying on different outfits, and 3 months after they met they were going on their road trip to big sur, and during that time taylor wrote and recorded you are in love and added it to 1989 and played it for karlie as they drove and they captioned a photo of them together with a line from it like… they literally met and a few weeks later were falling in love so like. yeah.
“Salute to me, I’m your American queen” seems like a reference to j*e because he’s british (and that’s probably the intention) but the original line that we heard in the making of a song video was “salute to me, like the american dream” and when karlie was interviewed backstage at the vsfs where they first met, she said, “taylor is this all-american girl. she’s the american dream.” (tbh to me the fact that the line was changed is the most telling part of all of this).
“And you move to me like I’m a Motown beat” — taylor posted a photo of the two of them prepping for the 2014 met gala together with the caption “motown dance party.” “And we rule the kingdom inside my room” — i mean the only place they can really openly be together is in private, this line has strong closeted gay energy. The “all the boys” line is i think meant to contrast ~boys~ to A Real Man (like how she explained “boys only want love if it’s torture” in blank space) but lbr it’s about a woman.
“Late in the night, the city’s asleep / Your love is a secret I’m hoping, dreaming, dying to keep. / Change my priorities / The taste of your lips is my idea of luxury.” this is about being closeted and prioritization of career security vs coming out and being able to love openly full stop, that’s the facts. she crafted and presented her relationship with j*e the way she did in order for this line to make sense (but like… she’s literally been singing about love being secret and forbidden since the beginning of her career. it’s always been about being gay and closeted.)
“Up on the roof with a school girl crush / drinking beer out of plastic cups.” girl crush………… because they’re both girls. also karlie and taylor had a date courtside at a knicks game where they drank beer out of plastic cups and it was cute.
“Baby, all at once, this is enough” — I just made this gifset and imo the idea of this being enough reads as fundamentally gay. like if she’s writing about being in love with a man it just doesn’t make any sense to me for her to be talking about how it’s enough. “enough” implies that there is some kind of inherent conflict between this (i.e. love) and everything else in her life, and even if she truly is worried about public scrutiny ruining her relationship with a man, as we’re meant to believe wrt “your love is a secret i’m hoping, dreaming, dying to keep,” no amount of public scrutiny of her relationships with men could potentially cost her everything in her life. this is a very fundamentally gay fear — we see this in her response to k*ssgate and the continuing aftermath of that moment, i.e. in dwoht (which she has described as being about “a combination of love and fear”) and the archer. the idea of “this is enough” reads very much to me like evelyn hugo talking about “the daily peace of loving plainly” and contrasting the grandeur of her life of fame vs the smallest freedoms and everyday ordinary moments she desperately wants but cannot have with her lover. it’s very the lucky one dot mp3, very chely wright talking about how closeted gays often convince themselves that their careers will have to be enough because they can’t conceive of a world or a version of themselves where they could even have the option of wanting anything else, but there comes a point in your life where you can no longer stand to live like that, and you realize that what will really be enough is being free — coming out despite the potential repercussions just so you can live and love openly and honestly as who you truly are.
anyways tl;dr i really don’t see anything explicitly about j*e in this song aside from ‘king’ and ‘fancy’, and basically all of it is not only filled with explicit references to karlie but also driven by deeply gay emotions and fears and desires so. that’s that on that.

Supergirl Season 5
Will Supercorp happen?
Remember in DC Legends of Tomorrow? Snart is alive in an alternate earth with a boyfriend. It’s entirely plausible in a cross-over to have it already be a thing. I mean, they did a delightful hella gay musical, out of the blue, so anything is possible! Remember on Person of Interest, the simulations that Shaw underwent? What’s great about that show is that “labels” or “coming out” wasn’t included at all. It simply was. The love between these two women, Root and Shaw, who had a string of subtext throughout the series and some not so subtle moments; and yet, the viewers knew it, understood it, and loved it. Frankly, I think this is how it ought to be, but I also understand the delicate nature of representation on tv or film, because we are only liberated to a point in the US/Canada/UK, etc. as there is still much stigma and that is just not the case in 72 countries where it is a crime to love someone of the same sex, wherein 13 of those countries it is a crime punishable by death. Alex’s character has already gone through this process. Introducing love for one person only, where gender doesn’t come into question, is really key to integrate and normalize what is already there, as not being a big deal, simply because it shouldn’t be, as stressed so well in the telenovela, Amar a Muerte. Juliantina is a beautiful example of this and it has had an enormous effect on people worldwide. I think Supercorp could be like that, but perhaps with even greater reach, stripped of labels or a need to come out--I am not saying that this is not important because it is, esp. in our day and age, but moving forward, it would be monumental to have two people who are destined to be with one another. It’s a show about hope, love, and fighting for people to live peacefully and to be authentically themselves, afterall. It’s also plausible that Kara is Lena’s “safe place” just as Root was for Shaw in POI (Person of Interest), and maybe we get to see this in a mind palace episode. If there will be a season 6, I think this season could very well gradually set this up to be a possibility or even an awareness for them, while we have the omniscient POV thus far...building upon a broken friendship that struggles to mend, but the bond is so strong that perhaps they aren’t even aware, or have put it “in a little box and shoved it way down” then trust is slowly rebuilt, friendship repaired via heroic acts, of course, then perhaps the flirting returns and the relationship moves past best-friend-friendship into something more. It would be a treat for fans to witness, revisit those past scenes of their “moments” from either of their POVs. I think because the people/audience/fans want Supercorp, (simply because it has been hinted already), it would/could be honored. I was told long ago that at a certain point, a book writes itself, or a painting paints itself, or in this case, drama, where the actors deliver what’s written in the stars, ie. the script writes itself. At the very least, I think there will definitely be more subtext to which there will be no straight explanation. It’s also plausible to enter inside of Brainy’s calculations and scenarios...also, similar to the machine in POI, we get to see theoretical ideas played out for the best outcome. The subtext from previous seasons, whether the writers had intended to create a romantic involvement between the two or were even aware they had a hand in it or not, and whether the rest of the cast does or does not think/believe/see it is irrelevant; because, it certainly does exists. Lena (Katie) and Kara (Melissa) had these not so heteronormative moments along with micro-expressions that naturally existed. From a director’s standpoint, seeing this type of chemistry onscreen, especially within the LGBTQ+ community, is  e v e r y t h i n g-- exceptionally rare and valuable. It simply would be a crime to waste it, when it can embrace it and inspire the world.

Truth and agreed.
Why do you all think it's okay to discuss her sexuality?
lol ok so i’m gonna answer this question and this will be the last time i’ll ever answer it…,the gag is, u are 100% correct. in any other circumstance, i don’t agree that it’s right to publically speculate and discuss someone’s sexuality.
however, taylor is a v specific instance, and is an outlier to that statement. i say this bc, this era has been all about easter eggs. she has said this, and painfully emphasized that at every single chance she got (and still does). she has encouraged people to look back on her entire career for easter eggs. she has made this entire era about rainbows, coupled w this era almost exclusively being about the lgbt community, and has made it clear that those rainbows are symbolic of the lgbt community and not just some aesthetic choice. she has said that people are missing the biggest easter eggs. she’s literally encouraging people to discuss and speculate, she WANTS people to figure it out. if she didn’t ??? she would be shutting it down everywhere, not only w the posts she likes but also in the press. if she didn’t want this conversation happening and if she truly had an issue w it, we would not be having media outlets discussing her potential coming out or the kaylor community. that’s literally tree’s whole job as a publicist, to control what the media runs w and what it doesn’t thus controlling what information is being fed to the general public. we have her literally positioning herself in an exclusively lgbt trailer park in her latest video, while a straight ally supports from the outside. she not only put herself inside that community rather than w the straight ally, but she also put herself among the lgbt folks receiving homophobic hate. all while having her hair dyed as the literal bi flag. she is being so loud.,,she wants people to know. it is more disrespectful at this point to not talk about her as a member of the community when she is so clearly excited and ready for people to talk and finally figure it out. these are not the actions of someone shy and ashamed. these are not the actions of someone who wants to keep their sexuality hidden. she is driving this entire conversation.

Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit 🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊
Tumblr media
Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit is a lesbian coming of age novel by Jeanette Winterson.
As explained online: Throughout the entire book, Jeanette’s mother believes that oranges are the only fruit, but Jeanette can see that there are others. Heterosexuality is just one way of living life, but there are many others that should be equally valued.

I encourage you all to read up on Anita Bryant and the Orange Juice Boycott in the 70s. To sum it all up, she was a singer in the 60s who later became spokeswoman for the Florida Citrus Commission (and also became an anti LGBT activist). She was probably most notable for promoting Florida Orange Juice.
In 1977, Miami’s Dade County Commission approved a law that would outlaw discrimination against gays and lesbians in the workplace and housing markets. Anita Bryant’s headass seized the opportunity to be a nosy pain in the ass and include herself in other people’s business instead of minding her fucking own and slander the LGBT community. This lead to the orange juice boycott which in turn lead to the LGBT community to have a more powerful voice of activism. @taytaysbeard

ta da!
question: what does “its all part of the fucking story” reference ? i see it around the kaylor/gaylor swift side of the fandom a lot but never know what it means lmao
Taylor went out with friends including Suki W, and Cara on Sept 27, 2016 to a NYC restaurant and someone wrote the message “It’s all part of the fucking story” on the paper table cloth. Suki posted a picture of it (later deleted) and a bodyguard was seen walking out of the restaurant with the tablecloth later, so we thought it was an important memento. So, based on the timing (the day before the auspicious date “The 28th night of September,” in the middle of a bunch of stuff happening with Taylor’s PR game and relationships, and starting to record reputation,) it is considered important to those of us who think there’s a whole lot more to Taylor than the straight narrative she presents, and we take it as a clue that we can take things like social media posts as clues to the real fucking story.

wherever you may live in the world, have a phone number handy, or go to see someone next door...listen to good music, and especially, know that you are a child of this universe; you have a right to be here and you are loved. 💗
Please remember it’s ok to not be ok. It’s ok to have bad days. It doesn’t mean you’re a failure. It means you’re human and life gets really fucking hard and overwhelming sometimes.

Happy (soon to be) Pride, Peeps! And thank you singers/songwriters for all the gay music, and everybody who supports equal rights for all!  🌈🌈🌈 Much love!
Tumblr media
❝ June is Pride month, and I think a lot about how it is very brave to be vulnerable about your feelings in that sense and in that situation, but it is even more brave to be honest about your feelings about who you love when you know that might be met with adversity from society. And so this month, and every month, I want to send my love and respect to everybody who has been brave enough to be honest about how you feel, to live their lives as they are, as they feel they should be, as they identify, and this is a month where we need to celebrate how far we’ve come, but also we need to acknowledge how far we have left to go. And I want to send my love and respect out to everybody who in their journey or in their life hasn’t yet felt comfortable enough to come out. And may you do that in your own time, and may we all ultimately live in a world where we can be able to love people and no one has to be afraid to love people and say how they feel. Because when it comes to feelings and when it comes to love and searching for someone to spend your whole life with, it’s all just really, really delicate, you know? ❞ 6.02.2018
