Time for some #marchmeetthemaker day 1 #favouritetomake but I'm way behind 🙈 I'm Laurie, I'm an Irish 26-year-old DIY gal/painter/tryer/upcycler/writer 😊 I have a lot of favourites! Its hard to pick just one, though my favourite pursuit at the moment is the entomology frames 😍 I have always had a connection to butterflies, my whole life I've just been drawn to them? End of 2018 I decided to finally try my hand at framing some ethically sourced specimens for myself, and I fell even more in love with them and this process of reanimating something that has died, bringing it back to life in a weird way. From the butterflies I moved on to framing beetles, which before practicing entomology, I had no idea how stunning an insect they are 😍 it has opened me up to new creations in such an educational and beautiful way, with great respect for the fact that you are taking something that is no longer living and magically creating something that lets the specimen live on in a new way. Ethically sourcing specimens is something very important to me, I was nervous to join the community and meet rage or mean comments from those that think taxidermy is wrong, but instead I've found this artform that is so intricate and detailed that I am so interested in.
