hey, museum folks. on April 16, the ceiling in the library at Boscobel House collapsed unexpectedly
Tumblr media
Before the collapse.
This New York mansion from 1806 was saved AFTER demolition in the 1950s, when the architectural elements were recovered and reassembled in another location near its original site. It's of great artistic and historical significance, not the least because the staff has been working on a project to document the lives of the family's Black servants- the ones who were free when hired, and the ones who had been enslaved by said family and freed before the house was finished -since 2020
if anyone can donate even a little bit to help with the recovery efforts, here is the link

I think a very important unwritten piece of locked tomb canon is that corona and ianthe are absolutely both writing home regularly to mummy throughout the entire series - not with any helpful plot points or anything, they just want pocket money. Their mother, hatefully running a planet that she also hates, has the knack of silently wiring pocket money in an incredibly nasty and hurtful way - despite not accompanying it with a note or anything - just a sort of careful psychic warfare involving timing, amounts of money, the transfer service, etc.
(Although at at one point she asks if one of them has Babs, or if he’s dead or what. Corona ghosts her and ianthe texts back “who”)
Anyway, breaking off your meeting with god or the rebels or whatever because mummy has just sent you $465.73 in THEE bitchiest possible way

This is, as they say, gay sex. It's the closest I've ever come to understanding this otherwise very unappealing (to me) "eroticism of the machine" thing people on this website talk about these days.

My cats!
I filed a consumer complaint about an exploitative utility company today and I have to say that writing it felt REALLY good.
I'm listening right now to a piece of music that I like a lot.
I probably am going to finish up a years-long attempt to get something done at work soon.
I have some really exciting family and friend stuff coming up in May and June.
Thanks, Clara!

tag / dash game!
A person's favorite color, favorite animal, and favorite flavor of ice cream can say a lot about them when considering the answers as a whole. Tag some friends and get a sense of who they are! :)
Favorite color: Deep green, slightly closer to "warm" than "cool"--basically the exact color of my blog background on desktop.
Favorite animal: Either cats, cows, or badgers, I think.
Favorite ice cream: Black raspberry! I'm also a big fan of most variants on the chocolate chip/cookie dough concept.

The impression I get of Lottie is that she says that, especially as an adult, but all the hearts she happens to have been attracted to have been in girls' chests. Simone Kessell agrees with you, though.
🧡💛and--choosing violence--🏳️‍🌈
🧡: What is a popular (serious) theory you disagree with?
ohhhhhh hm for yj i do not really pay a lot of attention to theories, so i'm not sure? sorry that's boring
💛: What is a popular ship you just can't get behind, and why?
as longtime followers of this blog can no doubt attest, it's m*stynat. (asterisk so my dislike does not show up in the search, because i'm nice.) there's nothing WRONG with it exactly i'm just not enamored of misty fans in general and i think it's only fun when it's extremely one-sided, because i really don't think nat cares that much for misty, even begrudgingly.
🏳️‍🌈: Which character who is commonly headcanoned as queer doesn't seem queer to you?
i'm going through a list of major characters in my head and i've got nothing tbh those girls r gay. in place of that i will offer my most controversial yj sexuality opinion which is that lottie is a really annoying "hearts not parts" pansexual.
choose violence asks!

gideon the ninth video game adaptation where you play as cytherea. it alternates between a subtle game of psychological manipulation where you have to be very careful not to reveal information you’re not supposed to know, a horror corridor-exploration game, and a fighting game. there’s a side panel where you control protesilaus. and obviously, since you’re a lyctor, you’re completely op and you can see all of the npcs’ stats at all times.
and im also imagining that it could deviate from the book and bring in information/plot from the rest of the series. you have the option while you play to explore canaan house and the labs at your leisure, and there’s enough information planted there that you learn at least some of the backstory john tells harrow in nona, as well as more information about boe and the war. maybe you’re even able to communicate with the other lyctors and john himself if you wish. you also have the opportunity at any point to reveal yourself to any of the other characters and/or ask them questions, collaborate with them, etc. so there would be multiple endings, with different subsections of characters dying and ascending for each, and for different reasons.

this has been discussed before but reducing female characters to the girlboss braincell holder in the name of combating misogyny in fandom is ironically also a form of misogyny

"bUt i tHiNk mAKeUp is fUn" that's nice. i would like to be allowed to exist without it without being socioeconomically punished for that choice but what's important to focus on here is that you're just having the funnest time ever

So you know how at the end of Nona the Ninth, Harrow doubts that John is god and goes off into the River to find god, who is maybe Alecto?
It turns out we had a clue right at the beginning that John is not the metaphysical engine of the universe of The Locked Tomb...
When Teacher gives the assembled scions at Canaan House a highly selective history of the OG Lyctors, he says:
Those eight necromancers were first after the Lord of Resurrection; they have spread his assumption across the blackness of space.
Remember that John is, in the theology of the Nine Houses, the "God who became man and man who became God." It's never entirely explained what this means to them, but it's clearly intended to riff on Jesus, the 'Word made flesh' (John 1:14), "born in the likeness of men" (Philippians 2:7).
But here's the thing if you're going to be a Catholic-flavoured god: Catholicism has some quite specific terminology for leveling up in terms of heavenly power.
Tumblr media
Jesus, who is God, goes up to heaven after the resurrection. This is described as his "ascension" - it's an active process. He is ascending, going to his heavenly throne. He can do that, because he's God. He *is* the rules of the universe and metaphysics. If he wants to fly up into the sky and transcend into another dimension, he can do that, because he's God.
Tumblr media
But there are three other people who are understood to have gone up to heaven bodily: Jesus' mum Mary, and the prophets Elijah and Enoch - for all three of them, this is described as their "assumption": it's a passive process, which they aren't doing under their own steam, it's being done by God. In art, this has historically been depicted by showing them being propelled skywards by a writhing mass of cherubs.
Tumblr media
So let's get back to Jod.
You know, the man who became god, etc etc etc? The one who resurrected his Lyctors who then "spread his assumption across the blackness of space"?
Either John wasn't paying quite enough attention when going through Catholicism for Dummies or Teacher is being a bit sly here.
So this is a nod, right at the beginning, to the fact that John isn't actually the metaphysical power of the universe that he claims to be.
