5 things you may not have known about mitski's second album, retired from sad, new career in business
1. retired from sad, new career in business has two formerly privated music videos, square and strawberry blond. they were made unlisted in 2023 and are now accessible through the rfsncib playlist on mitski's youtube channel.
2. the streaming tracklist used to have two songs, square (solo piano version) and shame (jammin' out solo version) which were deleted for unexplained reasons.
3. shame was originally written for a dance film by big evil collective, titled "dalliance"
4. the photographer for the album cover (jade greene) says he took the photos at theater x, a spot between the suny purchase performing arts center and bookstore
5. as with lush, retired from sad, new career in business does not have a physical release as mitski self-released it rather than through a label

1. lush is mitski's only album to be produced by scot moriarty, who also graduated from suny purchase after studying studio production there
2. lush is mitski's second-shortest album in length (26 minutes, 1 second), before retired from sad, new career in business (23 minutes, 54 seconds)
3. for unexplained reasons, the order of songs was different on streaming services and bandcamp. in 2022, the streaming tracklist was fixed to match the bandcamp version
4. mitski recorded the album with a full live orchestra, comprised of people also studying at purchase SUNY at the time
5. mitski wrote bag of bones when she was 18 years old and living in turkey

mitski has released tickets for preview screenings of the land is inhospitable and so are we:
7 september: chicago, dallas, london, los angeles, melbourne, nashville, new york city and sydney
14 september: tokyo
tickets are on sale at mitski.com for all dates except tokyo. the ticket sales for tokyo open at 9am japan standard time, wednesday 30th august 2023.
i apologise for the late update. if you are interested, please purchase tickets asap as they have already sold out in los angeles, chicago and new york.
now that the urgent stuff is out of the way here is more information:
- the album will be played from start to finish in a dark theatre
- 1 film of mitski's choice will play at the end of each screening, except in tokyo. the film that will be screened at each venue have already been determined, check mitski.com to see which film plays where. (the 4 films mitski has chosen are days of heaven (1978), desert hearts (1986), drugstore cowboy (1989) and la strada (1954))
- limited edition posters to commemorate the listening party will be given out at all screenings
- this is not a concert and mitski will not be present at any of the screenings
