I love how they (potentially accidentally) set up the perfect "Leon is a friend of Dorothy" joke in Damnation. All of the code names were Wizard of Oz themed, something Leon took great delight in, especially in the novel. As such, his code name was Tin Man. Now, there's a lot to read into there, especially with the Tin Man in the WoO trying to find his heart and Leon feeling like he's lost his humanity during this mission, but the Tin Man is also literally a friend of Dorothy in the film.
For those unaware, "friend of Dorothy" was more or less a "secret code" queer people would use to find each other, especially when they weren't able to directly say they were queer. If someone was a friend of Dorothy, they were queer in some capacity. It was most popular during the 70s and 80s and even led to a snafu in the Navy where investigators became aware of the "friend of Dorothy" term but thought it referred to an actual person named Dorothy who was aiding queer men in the military (which was forbidden).

Luis Serra and his use of false bravado
I'm writing a fic right now that requires a pretty in-depth character analysis of Luis, and I wanted to talk about one of my favorite things about him, which is his use of false bravado to get out of sticky situations, and the expressiveness he displays in the moments in between.
We talk a lot about Leon's micro-expressions when he's trying to hide his feelings, which don't get me wrong, I LOVE to analyze, but Luis has such telling expressions as well, and we should talk about it! (I also saw some gifs of Luis's expressions being modded onto Leon and THAT got attention but... neither here nor there).
To me, it always looks like he's using an almost silly amount of swagger when he interacts with others to portray his confidence, and he barely ever lets that wall down. Unlike Leon and Ada, he's a civilian, but he jokes around and flirts every time he's in front of them, despite being in situations where he really should be behaving more like Ashley, like when he narrowly avoided being tortured to death and he's just like "nice, cigs"
We as the audience are only privy to his mask slips in 3 different types of situations, as far as I can tell:
When he feels like his luck is about to run out: he goes from acting confident to suddenly displaying a lot of fear on his face, while he wildly casts around for something to say to help him out. In both of these instances, he completely regains his bravado once he thinks he's safe again, i.e. when Ada saves him from the torturers, or when he realizes Ada knows who Leon is. This is also just kind of adorable. Watch the way his face falls when he realizes Ada is mad, and then the way he flounders when she points her gun at him.
2. When no one else is looking: This one stood out to me from the very beginning because he's actually still speaking with confidence as he explains that the plaga can be removed, but Leon and Ashley can't see his face, where he's clearly showing his trepidation, his guilt about them being infected, etc. and then notice how he goes right back to smiling and confident when he turns around to face them again.
3. When he feels concern for others: Luis is an extremely caring person, and one of the most common moments where he lets his mask slip is when someone else is in danger. Obviously the first thing that comes to mind is his reaction to the medicine being destroyed, but I also want to draw attention to the look on his face when Ada is in danger and she tells him to leave her. And I know I included him looking away from Leon and Mendez in a previous post but here's a higher quality gif so you can really get your heart broken by how scared he looks:
Anyways, I just love the little things that make up characters in this game. I also have analyses about Ada and Ashley that you'll probably get whether you want it or not because I love them, and their characterizations are so interesting.

I honestly think it’s stupid that Capcom won’t let women age, and I’m thinking about this more lately and I watched some re8 gameplay and I noticed how Lady D actually looked her age???
Google says she’s around 44, and it’s obvious she’s older and I think it’s also obvious that Capcom noticed how many people are attracted to her. She HAS wrinkles, under her eyes, around her mouth etc. and people (including men because all of a sudden canon isn’t important when it comes to the little queer characters we have) are still talking about her, making edits and content of her even a few years after the game originally came out. So I don’t understand how they don’t at least give Ada, Ashley or Claire a bit more skin texture or even let them get dirt on their face throughout the game the way Leon does.
The way the media as a whole treats women is disgusting but Capcom has like their own personal brand of misogyny. They feature women characters in the games, they're usually as powerful and capable of the men, sure. But then they're running through the apocalypse in 5 inch heels, the alternate outfits are hypersexualized, they're never allowed to age, never allowed to be fully explored, their stories are still usually tied to men in some way, they get demoted to "side character," and they're always stuck in the same fucking outfits.
In all fairness, Ashley and Claire do get some dirt and stuff on them throughout the games, but I have the file for Ashley's in-game model, I've seen it up close and she's got no peach fuzz or "imperfections" in the way Leon does, for example. And while it's great that they do that for Leon because I'm tired of video game characters across the board always being perfect and I think the skin texture details are also really cool and realistic.... why do the women not get that? (We know why.)
And I think the fandom is partially to blame for this as well. I've seen far to many people make excuses for Capcom or say it "isn't that bad," because they don't seem to understand that women (and everyone else besides cishet white men) shouldn't have to grovel and write essay after essay trying to convince people that they should be represented. We shouldn't have to carry the burden of that representation. And I think part of this was definitely due to the dudebro's reaction to Claire in REV2 since so. many. people. complained she looked "too old" in that game which is absurd.
But this also very much feeds into the beauty standards as well. Women are only valued when they're "young and beautiful" (because then they're more "useful" to men) which is why young women are so over-represented in media. They can't let the women visibly age because then they'd be representing a demographic that isn't the most "appealing to men," and surely the world would end if a woman looks like she's over the age of 30. (And that's not a joke or a hyperbole like that's actually what happens in media and how things are structured within the industry.)

More RE4 Character Model Details
I made a whole separate post for Leon specifically since there's a couple very interesting details hidden in there that I wanted to compare to his 2R mode, like scars, but for this post I wanted to focus on other details. These are the actual models Capcom used that were ripped from 4R by some very talented people-- I imported the files into Blender so I could mess around with them.
Looking at the texture of Leon's eyes, they're actually look a bit more gray than blue to me. He's also doesn't have limbal rings.
He's also got very long eyelashes. His dark circles are also very dark to the point where he almost looks sickly.
Like Leon, Krauser's got scruff! More scruff than Leon actually... by a lot. Leon's is more "fucked up while trying to shave and missed some patches" while Krauser's is just that he hasn't shaved in a day or two.
And for all the artists or just people curious out there, he's a close up of the patch on his sleeve and the emblem on his beret.
Ashley's eyes are definitely more of a green-blue than just straight up blue too. It looks like she's got some eyeshadow remaining too. Also, her necklace is an eagle pendent!
Forgive me for the cursed image, but she's got her ears from OG4!!! They're just hidden by her hair.
