AtLA ending is a fantastic ending... For the season.
As the ending of a series? There's just too much left unanswered even beyond Azula.
IIRC there was an interview where the a writer said they wanted another season and Azula was gonna get some focus and some sort of redemption.
I get that not every question needs to be answered but the BIG ones should be and Azula is a HUGE question.
i don't trust people who prefer atla ending to tlok ending...

Some fun thoughts about the ending of AtLA...
Zuko cheated by having Katara in the ring with him (which, tbf, if you ain't cheating you ain't trying)
If you want to say that it wasn't cheating, then Katara was fair game with the lightning.
Zuko lost as soon as he was burned, lightning burns ppl. It doesn't matter where Azula targeted, Zuko was burned first. Katara should have stepped out of the ring and got to safety but she was there to back Zuko up.
Zuko never defeated Azula, Katara did.
If we're going on the principle that Azula allowed the Agni Kai to start including Water Benders, she's Firelord after all, so that Zutara isn't cheating, that just means that Katara should be Fire Lord.
Basically, Firelord Katara or Firelord Azula is the only way this should have ended.
Katara: We can't lose. Because we have this. *points to her chest*
Zuko: We have heart?
Katara: Heart? No, me. I'm pointing at myself. I'm going to win this for us.

I just love shenanigans and these absolutely oozes shenanigans for so many similar and vastly different reasons.
Sokka x Azula or Katara x Azula
Azula just goes so well with "water tribe peasants" that It's poetic
Also, always like some Aang x Toph and Toph X Sokka (post war for both).
I actually don't like Aang and Toph being shipped.durring the war. The show did a terrible job at it with Aang for a multitude of reasons, but they did some great stuff with Toph having a crush on Sokka.
I wanna talk about all my fav ATLA ships cuz being a multishipper can suck sometimes
I wanna look at ship tags and not see hate for another ship in them
SPREAD THE LOVE
KatAang: Classic friends to lovers. Couples who commit ecoterrorism together stay together
TAang: She was a punk He did ballet what more can I say. But like actually they're so fun to analyze with what we have in canon, they legit give soulmate vibes.
ZuTara: SHOT THROUGH THE HEART another fun one to analyze, opposites attract/enemies to lovers it's a good time
KaToph: They're defined by overcoming their "weaknesses" Katara fought for her right to be a master despite her gender and became one of the most powerful benders because of her will to fight. Toph literally invented a whole new bending style BECAUSE of her blindness. Love them
MaiLee: Bad bitches deserve bad bitches, we love a sunshine and sunshine protector. They're fighting styles compliment each other as do their personalities
MaiKo: 'I love Zuko more than I fear you" will never not be the hardest line in the show. *doesn't care she got pickles* "HOW FUCKING DARE YOU SHE SAID NO PICKLES"
Ty Luki: I just want Suki to show TyLee the ropes of being a kyoshi warrior. The have so much they can teach each other also if you like the Airbender! TyLee headcanon there's something poetic about her unlocking her powers with kyoshi's fans
YueTara: MOON AND OCEAN NEED I SAY MORE
ZUe (I actually don't know their ship name) we in rare pair hell but SUN AND MOON NEED I SAY MORE also applies to Yue x Azula you guys come up with the coolest scenarios that put the either fire sibling in the north pole, this fandom is so creative
ZuKKi: Let Sokka pull lol but actually a King and His Guard and King and his Ambassador, it's like Sukka is great but make it better
Mai TyLee and Suki should be a bigger ship cuz I swear I'm the only one that sees it (help me name them)

on the topic of humans being the intergalactic “hold my beer” species: imagine an alien stepping onto a human starship and seeing a space roomba™ with a knife duct taped onto it, just wandering around the ship
it doesn’t have any special intelligence. it’s just a normal space roomba. there are other space roombas on the ship and they don’t have knives. it’s just this one. knife space roomba has full clearance to every room in the ship. occasionally crew members will be talking and then suddenly swear and clutch their ankle. knife space roomba putters off, leaving them to their mild stab wounds.
“what is the point?” asks the alien as another crew member casually steps over the knife-wielding robot. “is it to test your speed and agility?”
“no it doesn’t really go that fast,” replies the captain.
“does it teach you to stay ever-vigilant?”
“I mean I guess so but that’s more of a side effect.”
“does it weed out the weak? does it protect you from invaders? do repeated stabbings let your species heal more quickly in the future?”
“it doesn’t stab very hard, it gets us more than it gets our enemies, and no, but that sounds cool — someone write that down.”
“but then what is its purpose?”
“I don’t know,” the captain says, leaning down to give the space roomba an affectionate pat. “it just seemed cool”

It occurs to me that as much as “humans are the scary ones” fits sometimes, if you look at it another way, humans might seem like the absurdly friendly or curious ones.
I mean, who looked at an elephant, gigantic creature thoroughly capable of killing someone if it has to, and thought “I’m gonna ride on that thing!”?
And put a human near any canine predator and there’s a strong chance of said human yelling “PUPPY!” and initiating playful interaction with it.
And what about the people who look at whales, bigger than basically everything else, and decide “I’m gonna swim with our splashy danger friends!”
Heck, for all we know, humans might run into the scariest, toughest aliens out there and say “Heck with it. I’m gonna hug ‘em.”
“Why?!”
“I dunno. I gotta hug ‘em.”
And it’s like the first friendly interaction the species has had in forever so suddenly humanity has a bunch of big scary friends.

Fic Idea: Can Love Bloom on the Battlefield?
Ship: Azula x Katara
Setting: AtLA (w/ Metal Gear Solid influences)
Plot: Punished Venom Katara, the leader of Diamond Bear-Dogs meets Azula, an elite sniper from Cipher, on the battlefield.
(basically Venom Snake v Quiet boss fight but Katara can't just drop cargo on Azula's head)

To win an Agni Kai you have to burn your opponent, Zuko has scorch marks (lightning burning the skin) but Azula doesn't.
Also, if you want to say that the 1v2 was fair game, which it wasn't but good on Zuko and Katara for cheating (you should cheat in this situation!), then Zuko didn't win... Katara did.
Katara is the rightful Fire Lord (since that's what was up for grabs). She was in the ring and poised to attack after the fight started...
So, no matter what, people who think Zuko won the fight are wrong. His victory was handed to him after Katara was done with it.
So in summation:
Zuko cheated, pretty sure it's dishonorable bringing a water bender into the fight.
Zuko got burned first.
Zuko didn't beat Azula, Katara did, Fire Lord Katara
At the end of the day it was dumb of Zuko to Agni Kai Azula, they should have just jumped her ass from the shadows. But if you want to be honorable and win "fair" then actually fight fairly and don't have the water bender winning the Agni Kai.
Azula was the only one who lost in Agni Kai. And we all know that, but not everyone can handle it. She can only win in the minds of her fans. Coped with it.
