When you first met your boyfriend, intimidating was the first thought that came to mind. The way he laces authority and command into his voice and his presence during practices has his teammates doing what he asks without a second thought. He isn’t only tall, he’s burly and strong, making your first impression of him the more menacing.

Despite all that being true, you had to admit, he was handsome, and the way he seemed to always be in control of everything already had you drawn in. But, after getting to know him, you realized he was surprisingly caring and soft. With you, his words are always sweet.

A/N: Thank you so much!! I hope this isn’t too melodramatic.

“Reach out to me.”

Meian’s voice is calm and steady, and compared to the flames that threaten to lap at his face as he reaches his arm out for you, it’s as soothing as ice on a burned tongue.

But your hands still shake by your sides and you’re afraid to raise your arms towards him. It’s hot, it’s terribly hot, and you’ve already seen your life flash before your eyes multiple times in the past ten minutes. You don’t know if you’ll make it out or if the flames will consume you in front of your crush.

What cruel joke is it that he’s the one answering your call?

“Please.”

You know if he was able to, he would have bypassed your hesitation and pulled you out of the window yourself, but as it is, he has to depend on you to try your hardest as much as you depend on him.

“Trust me,” he pleads again, and you can almost see tears in his eyes behind his heavy mask because you don’t know he has wanted you for so long, and it’s only been weeks since you’ve just started to know him, to be with him, so to see you in danger like this breaks his heart more.

The fact that he can’t just cross the distance between you and jump into that unstable building to hold you close is too much for him to bear.

“Keep trying.”

You sob as you reach out through the flames towards him with your whole body, the fact that you’re on your knees, perched on this windowsill while the fire continues to rage, making every second more and more precarious.

“Keep going,” he instructs. You cough out the fumes and you nod, and you close your eyes as your whole body yearns for him, until you feel the contact of rough gloves holding your hand.

Your heart jumps in your chest, especially because he pulls you into his arms. He doesn’t stop to kiss you, because he’ll kiss you more times than you can imagine once you reach the safety of concrete and soil.

In all his years so far as a firefighter, he never thought he’d have to rescue his object of affection out of a burning building.

He never wants to do this again, ever, but if you’re ever in danger, no matter where or how, all he wants to always be there to save the day.

Meian settled into a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon that he rented from some fancy schmancy place. His date would be waiting for him not too far from that point. From her profile photos, she was cute.
