In case everyone is wondering where I am, my glasses are still missing, and about two days ago I got into a car crash, so I'm having a rough time of it and can't focus on this blog. But that doesn't mean I've abandoned it at all. I suppose I'm just on a hiatus. It may last only a week, or it may last until October, because my eye doctor won't see me until October. Hopefully I find my glasses a lot sooner than that.

A childhood headcanon, hm?

Ardyn is no more than five, hiding in his mother's skirts. He watches his father laugh at his shyness, but the laughter doesn't quite meet the priest's amber eyes. He's standing with a strange man with hair black as night and eyes a liquid, piercing blue. This guest seems otherworldly, and Ardyn doesn't like the idea of this man taking his mother on a trip, however brief it is supposed to be.

Peeking out from his mother's skirts to look at his father, he can tell he isn't happy about this either. Not really.

"Ardyn, darling, there's no need to be afraid of our guest!" His mother says as she gently places a hand on his head. "His presence is a blessed one."

The strange man regards the young boy with a very draconian gaze. Both in the sense of being scary and cold, and actually reminding Ardyn of a dragon. "Rejoice, child, for this is a sacred day. There ought not be a reason for thy to be afraid this day."

But Ardyn is afraid, and remains afraid until the next day when his mother returns without the man, and a hand on her stomach. His father weeps, and claims it to be of joy, but as Ardyn watches at the edge of the doorway he can tell he's sad, too.

But Ardyn forgets about that man, even when nine months later, he gets a little brother that looks more like that man than he does their father.

Okay, so from what I’ve gathered of Dawn of the Future, it seems that Bahamut looks very much like Somnus and Noctis under that faceplate. Ardyn’s family would no doubt be religious, and it’s not unheard of in some religious stories for priestly sovereigns to give up their wife for the child of a god. In more popular cases in media, it’s usually unwillingly.

But imagine, for a moment, that Somnus was a demigod, a son of Bahamut.
