Today, we are doing a Stickerkid labels review as well as hosting another mini Giveaway courtesy of Stickerkid, Switzerland. Though using plain old marker to mark our kid’s belonging may never entirely go away, it’s nice to use proper labels for the more precious belongings, don’t you think?
Labels are essential part and parcels of the school going children nowadays. From kindergarten to primary schools and daycare centres, proper labeling ensures that our kids don’t lose their stuffs.
Besides stationery and books, have you ever notice that the most common item in the lost and found corner of any school or student centre are water bottles or food containers? I am guessing that’s because the good old marker or conventional sticker labels can’t withstand the daily washing and scrubbing?
STICKERKID LABELS REVIEW
Quality
Enter Stickerkid, the Swiss-made kids labels that promise to deliver quality water proof labels that are even dishwasher, microwave and freezer safe.
The people at Stickerkid are passionate about ensuring the quality of their stickers so that they are long lasting. Read more about their manufacturing process here…. Hi there people, we are back with another collaboration with HP Malaysia ♥♥♥ This time, we worked on the Shadow Puppets x HP Little Makers Challenge. Scroll right down and we have got the cutest shadow puppets templates based on the story “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” for you and your little budding puppeteers at home…
SHADOW PUPPETS X HP LITTLE MAKERS CHALLENGE
Does the above title sounds a little confusing to you? Well, don’t be. In simpler terms, we at Malaysian Mom (a.k.a me and the kids) started on this cool shadow puppets project based on our favourite children’s folks tale “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”.
This shadow puppet project was created in conjunction with the HP Little Makers Challenge which is taking place from January 16th, 2019 to May 7th, 2019.
Here’s a sneak peek of all the challenges lined up for the kids:
How exciting, right?  As the name implies, the project is all about encouraging kids to be junior inventors… And you get rewarded for all the fun too, all you need to do is upload your completed project according to the topic of the challenge and you stand a chance to win up to MYR500 worth of HP Products (However, this contest is open to Malaysian residents only). Read more about the challenges here or get the latest challenge over here.
There will be 5 Winners for each round and school with the highest number of creative entry stands a chance to win a HP Idea Lab worth RM20,000 too. Good luck, guys!
The shadow puppets that I have done was for Challenge No. 2 which is well over at the point of writing. Still, the kids and I had lots of fun. I have always love to play around with vibrant colours as evidenced via my previous works: The Farm Printable Pack, Finding Nemo Printable Pack and the Dinosaur Printable Pack.
#gallery-0-5 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-5 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-5 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-5 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Farm Printable Pack
Finding Nemo Printable
Dinosaur Printable Pack
Therefore, imagine my surprise that these monotone shadow puppets can actually spark so much joy as well, lol. There’s just something magical about playing with shadows especially after the puppets came to life behind illuminated screen.
SHADOW PUPPETS: THE SETTING UP
In the following section, I will walk you through the setting up of simple shadow puppets with movable parts based on the characters from “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”, i.e. the shepherd boy, a kind farmer, a wolf and two sheep.
Inspired by the Malaysian Shadow Puppets or Wayang Kulit as well as the modern version by the crew at Fusion Wayang Kulit, I have added some joints and movements to our puppets for added fun 🙂
Materials for shadow puppets
Materials required are as listed below:
Black coloured cardstocks (minimum 160gm)
“Mini brads” for puppets’ joints (available at stationary or scrap booking supply shops)
Thin but sturdy skewers for holding up the puppets e.g. straws, popsicle sticks etc (I used disposable chopsticks)
Glue gun or quality sticky tapes to fasten sticks to puppets
Scissors and cutter
Printer to print out the free template below
White coloured pencil (optional)
To set up the shadow puppet theater, you would need:
A medium size cardboard box (approximately 17″ width x 12″ height)
Large white paper (I used baking paper)
Torchlight (I used the torchlight function from my mobile phone)
A stand to rest the torchlight (could be anything around the house, I used a stationary holder)
Assembly of shadow puppets
Download these templates and print them on A4/Letter sized plain paper. Just right click on the illustrations to save.
Page 1 of 2: The kind farmer and the shepherd boy
Page 2 of 2: The wolf and the sheep
Overlay white printed paper over black cardstock and staple them together.
Cut along the thick lines as indicated on templates.
Make incisions and insert mini brads at all joints. Fold the legs of the brads up as shown in photo below.
Attach skewers to the back of the puppets. I used tape here but I think glue gun will do a better job.
Optional, draw in details with white colour pencil or marker. It makes the puppets look pretty but will not affect the aesthetics when placed behind illuminated screen.
There you go, the puppets are completed. Next, we move on to the screen.
Setting up of shadow puppet theater
It’s pretty simple to set up a shadow puppet theater. The steps are:
Cut out a rectangle opening about 15″ width x 10″ height (Try not to go smaller than this as the shadows becomes bigger under light).
Cover opening with white paper or baking paper.
Place a torch behind the screen on a stand, dim the lights and you are ready to play!
Watch the puppets come to life and make the kids go all wow! Hope you enjoy it as much as we do. A perfect activity for before bedtime or during rainy days.
All the talk about SHEEP will hopefully lull your kids to SLEEP… you are welcome!
Don’t forget to share this with your friends or pin it for later!
Author’s disclosure: This is a sponsored post whereby I received monetary and/or material compensation/s in exchange for reviews. All opinions are truly my own and unbiased. These compensations help to offset the costs of running this website so that we can continue to create more great contents for you!

HP MALAYSIA x DISNEY’S A-Z HOMEWORK RESCUE | PART 3
Finally, the last part of the HP Malaysia x Disney’s A-Z Homework Rescue is here! After quite a long wait, I am afraid. Had been very busy with my eldest’ exams and everything else. Last week, we had a 1 week semester break. Since it was too hot and hazy to venture out anyways, had to think of some indoor activities for the kids. I am sure fellow mommies can relate, lol.
My youngest is now five…

Hello there! Today I am going to share with you our latest collaboration with HP Malaysia x Disney Homework Rescue. Next week, schools will reopen soon across Malaysia and some other countries. Are you guys prepared for the 2nd half of the  school year yet? Yet, some of you in the Northern Hemisphere get to enjoy your summer holidays a little bit longer (I am envious btw…)
Nevertheless, we have something fun for everybody today. So, read on, you guys…
Through this campaign, I am tasked with creating three homework rescue challenges using the HP Homework Rescue Kit and the HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 3700 Printer that I had received earlier.
HP Malaysia x Disney Homework Rescue | Part 1
Part 1 of the Homework Challenge is based on the all time favourite Finding Nemo story. Well, since combining study with play is our expertise here in malaysianmom.com, lol… I would like to share with you here the rescue mission that I had prepared for the Kids at Malaysian Mom HQ (a.k.a. my children), in order for them to help Marlin and Dory find Nemo.
Before we start
Before we proceed to the  challenge, you will first need the following:
1. Download and print the cute Rescue Nemo playset from Disney’s website here and assemble as per instruction (The link is also included in our printable).
2. Then, scroll down to download and print our Rescue Nemo Activity Pack.
Doesn’t have a printer yet? Check out our brief review of the HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 3700 below.
It’s currently taunted to be the world’s smallest wireless inkjet printer!
Look ma, no cables! Print directly from your mobile phone via wi-fi.
Review of the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3700 Printer
As mentioned earlier, this article is brought to you in collaboration with HP Malaysia and Disney.
Believe it or not, the folks behind the design of this printer was actually inspired by Disney’s stories such as Finding Nemo, Frozen, Tangled and The Lion King where parents gets to rescue their kids from the last-minute homework dilemma.
Pros and Cons
The major pros of the printer are:
It is super easy to print from mobile phone and tablet without the need for cables. Just download the HP Smartapp, set up and connect via wi-fi to the printer and you are good to go.
Cost wise it is affordable at approximately MYR358. Both the ink cartridges in black and coloured are about MYR37 each. This makes it a good entry-level printer for students. It is also designed to be power saving.
We currently own a laser printer from a different brand and the cost of printing i.e. the cost of cartridges are killing us. So, it may actually be a good idea to have a separate printer for the kids’ projects and assignments where laser sharp printing are often not required.
I also like that its super compact (measuring approximately about 400 x 170 x 120mm) and space-saving. When not in use, it can be packed up like this below so that dust won’t get into the printer.
The HP Smart app also functions as a scanner where you can scan and then print, email or share your documents/ photos.
As for the cons, to be honest I don’t see much downside with it save that it is not a replacement for laser printer. Personally, I am rather amazed with how far the inkjet printer has come compared to my first inkjet bought during my undergrad days 15 years ago 😛
The Rescue Nemo Mission
Back to the Homework Rescue Challenge, though. There are seven activities that the kids would have to complete in order to “rescue” Nemo.
The first challenge is to match the characters from Nemo to the right colours and re-write the colours. The print-outs in ochre and blue papers are actually for Activity #3 and #4 below.
My children completing the task. As you can see, my eldest is a left-hander…
For the second challenge, use a mirror to decipher the secret code from the diver’s mask to find out Nemo’s location.
And then for the third and fourth challenge, cut out the tabs from our Rescue Nemo Printable, then place the Nemo Playsets as per the tabs. I have printed it out on coloured paper for added interest. Try it!
The empty fish tank waiting to be decorated!
Rescue Nemo Activity #3
Rescue Nemo Activity #4
Finally, Activity #5 and #6 are filling in the missing letters in uppercase and lowercase forms while the last activity is a crossword puzzle.
Activity #5
Activity #7
If you are thinking that some of these activities look kinda difficult for the typical 4 to 7-year-old child, that’s because it’s meant for children to complete these tasks under their parents’ guidance.
If you have a problem completing the crossword puzzle, you may very well hunt for the answers here 🙂
So, there you have it…. Here’s the free Finding Nemo Activity Pack for you to create your own rescue mission! Just click on the picture below to download.
That’s all for now. Do stay tuned to Part 2 and 3 of our HP Malaysia x Disney Homework Rescue Challenge. Until then, take care!
