London book haul ✨
Tumblr media
I had a list of books I wanted to buy and only 3 of those were on it, haha. It was Before the Coffee Gets Cold, The Jasmine Throne and I Wish You All the Best. I had spotted quite a few other books that sounded really good, but Where the Dark Stands Still, The Briar Book of the Dead and How to Solve Your Own Murder just stood out above the others
I've read I Wish You All the Best in the past (several times actually) and have a post about it, but I really wanted to own a physical copy because I love it so much. And I've also read The Briar Book of the Dead since I came back and loved it! I'm currently on How to Solve Your Own Murder, which is pretty intriguing so far

I got the chance to road trip out to the path of totality! My phone camera didn’t do it justice, so I painted what I saw instead 🌞🌚

Here’s the photo I took and the sketch I made with my finger in the notes app while watching it happen 😆

I have 44 books I haven't read on my shelves, I really need to calm down and read them. No more buying novels for a WHILE, I need to get this TBR under control
Once again reorganizing my bookshelves, getting rid of books I'll never read, books I'll never finish and the ones I just didn't like. Also making it so it's easier for me to see my TBR because every time I pull out a book, I see the one behind and I'm suddenly reminded of its existence like "ah shit, I forgot that was here"
I'm also putting my Asian fantasy books together because they're pretty and I like them all in one place

The Briar Book of the Dead, by A. G. Slatter
I have come out of my reading slump and all it took was a trip to London and 6 new books! (aka, having a break from work and treating myself)
Check below for a surprise

Visited this lovely bookstore (it had 3 floors!) with a friend today 🌻
I had a free period after calculus, so it was nice to catch up and spend time browsing.
Tomorrow I’ll have the AD project discussion and on Friday I have a calculus mini-test, hope they go well 🤞🏻

If this fucking website was a person, I'd punch it in the face
I don't know if it's the pictures or just tumblr but this post is broken. It's in my drafts and editing it does nothing. I'll try making another post this weekend with different pictures but I have very low hopes
I tried posting something but tumblr appears to be working against me so I guess I'll get lost. It just put all my pics in random order and deleted the cut. I tried editing it several times, I deleted the original post and tried making a new one: same problem. I'll try again tomorrow, I guess 🫠

I'm gonna be in London soon and I will buy books. Many of them, probably, although I'll try to hold back at least a little bit

Akata appreciation post and manga haul 📚
Tumblr media
I didn't buy all of them at once but I did buy them pretty recently
Love Mix-Up is almost over in France, only 2 volumes left! And I started buying Boys Run the Riot because I realised I could spend my money now, especially on stuff I really loved reading digitally
Once again, Akata is THE manga publisher to me, they're always coming out with amazing titles, a lot of them with queer themes and storylines. They're even going to publish She Loves to Cook, She Loves to Eat (my review here) in France, which is amazing. Even when their titles aren't queer, they're amazing: Night view on the Factory was just zjfjzuej (look up the TW though). They're a small but passionate team and it really shows that they love what they're doing
Anyways, if you're curious what these are about:
My post about Boys Run the Riot
My post about Love Mix-Up
Entre Nos Mains
English title: Run Away With Me, Girl
Original title: Kakeochi Girl / かけおちガール
Genres: Drama, Romance, Slice of Life
Themes: Adultery, Homosexuality
Japanese volumes: 16 (Finished)
Maki’s first love was her high school classmate, a girl named Midori. But Midori broke up with Maki at graduation, saying they were now “too old to be fooling around dating girls.” Ten years later, Maki still can’t get Midori off her mind, and when the two women reconnect after a chance encounter, Maki realizes that, while her feelings haven’t changed, Midori has long moved on—in fact, she’s engaged. Yet the more Maki hears Midori talk about her soon-to-be-husband, the more red flags she notices...
Absolutely fell in love with the art and then the story punched me in the guts in the best way. The characters are complex and while they may not be entirely lovable, they are wholly human. And I really loved that
Some trigger warnings apply though, so I'll list the ones that come to mind*: cheating, domestic violence, gaslighting, misogyny, internalised homophobia
*Note that those are the ones I remember from what little I've read of this story and other TW may apply. Please try to look up a more complete list if you have any doubts. Take care of yourself ✨
