Asami woke up groggily, feeling something wasn't right, she sat up on the edge of her bed and slipped her feet into her awaiting slippers.
She glanced around her spacious bedroom, the full moon was shining brightly into the space, her balcony doors were open and the silk white curtains were flowing gently in the wind.
The roar of the sea was loud in the quiet night, her alarm clock on her bedside table read 1:15 am. She scanned the room looking for any obvious signs of why she had been dragged out of her heavy sleep so easily.
Her television was turned off, her phone, laptop and tablet were all charging on the far opposite side of the room so she wouldn't be tempted to glance at them when she should be sleeping.
Her desk lamp was off, her sketches for her father were scattered haphazardly ontop of it, the top pages ripperling slightly in the fresh sea breeze.
All in all everything was in it's correct place.
Totally stumped the young heiress decided to grab herself a glass of water before trying for sleep again. So she slipped on her RCH cheerleading hoodie and crepted downstairs without turning on any lights, she didn't want to wake up her friends that were sleeping in the other rooms around her.
Once in the kitchen, Asami collected a clean glass from the draining board next to the sink and poured herself a glass. She lent on the kitchen counter top as she took small sips of her water, watching the sea crash against the shore line through the window not 100 yards away.
As she watched, her eyes landed on a figure standing knee deep in the surf, they were scimming stones across the waves of the ocean. A boisterous dog was lolaping around the person diving nose first into the water excitedly in search of the stones.
As the person turned and stretched extravagantly, Asami reckonised her girlfriend Korra in the moon light. Wondering if her leaving through the back door had woken her in the first place, Asami opened the kitchen door. Welcoming the warm sea breeze that engulfed her as she stepped onto the wooden decking outside the back door.
She crossed the garden until she reached the back gate that backed out onto the soft sandy beach beyond, she took off her slippers and left them on the grass next to the gate where she wouldn't get sand in them and crossed the dunes until she reached her girlfriend.
"You're up late" Asami commented as she came to a stop next to her girlfriend.
Korra glanced sideways at her and smiled slightly, "Alot on my mind is all", Asami nodded. That was the thing about Korra, she wore her heart on her sleeve, but words weren't exactly her foretay. If she actually wanted to know what was going on in the younger girl's head she knew she would have to probe a little deeper.
"Penny for your thoughts then"? Asami asked, leaning down and stroking Naga's head as she trotted over panting excitedly.
Out of the corner of her eye Asami saw Korra shrug before she pulled her arm back and threw a stone as far as she could, it sploused loudly about 200 yards away.
Asami sighed, "Babe, if you don't want to talk to me about it that's cool, but please don't stand there and sulk all night, I don't mean to sound harsh but either spit it out or come back inside, but don't just stand here all night trapped in your own head".
Korra nodded, she gave a massive, defeated sigh and mumbled something the older girl couldn't hear.
"Sorry babe I need you to repeat that, you kinda mumbled".
Huffing through her nose Korra said, "I'm just thinking about next year".
Asami's heart sank, of course, it was obvious now, Asami was heading off to university in Zaofu in September whilst Korra was starting her senior year of high-school. For the first time since Korra was born they wouldn't see eachother every day, and just the thought of it hurt like hell.
"Baby" Asami said sympatheticly, "why didn't you tell me sooner, what's going on in your head, talk to me".
Korra scoffed, "yeah right, here I am worried you'll realise how immature I am as soon as you reach your halls of residence at Zaofu and you want me to whine like a little kid about my problems".
Asami sighed and rested her hand on Korra's shoulder, "I don't think your immature Korra, well", she paused, then continued, "not in the way you're thinking about anyway. I don't care that we haven't slept together yet babe, you know that, and you don't drink because of your parents accident, I think that's very responsible of you".
Korra scoffed and muttered "damaged goods".
"Korra, stop" Asami said forcefully, "stop with the self hate, you've gone through so much in your life, don't be so hard on yourself".
"I just. I can't loose you as well" Korra said in a quiet voice.
"Your not going to baby, I promise".
"How can you possibly promise me that"? Korra asked.
"Because I believe in us, that's all I need" Asami said softly before pulling her girlfriend into a caring hug.
"I love you" Korra mumbled into her girlfriend's hoodie.
"I love you too baby, come on inside, I'll make us some hot chocolate" Asami smiled as she pulled back from the hug.
"Oh, oh, can I have those mini marshmallows in mine"? Korra asked, with the most adorable smile Asami had ever seen on her girlfriend's face.
"Of course baby, anything for you".
Together, the two girls and Naga went back up to the spacious beach house for hot chocolate, alot of cuddling and finally some sleep.
Just before she fell asleep with her younger girlfriend in her arms, Asami made a silent promise to herself, and the girl she loves, to never give up on what they have, right here in this bed.
- - - - - -
Five years later, as she was kneeling infront of her speechless girlfriend, asking her the most important question she's ever asked anyone. Asami Sato was so very grateful she was always a women of her word.

Okay, so you know how airbenders get their tattoos when they become a master?
Well going by that logic shouldn't all Avatars receive bending tattoos as they've mastered that element to become a fully fledged Avatar?
You only ever see the air nomad Avatars earn their tattoos and I just don't get why.
Okay ...... discuss 🫣

Poster :- Dungeons and dragons club. Every Friday night at Avatar's dinner.
Asami glanced up at the home made poster with interest.
Bolin :- (shrugging) could be fun ?
Asami :- it's an excuse to spend time with Korra I suppose.
..... 3 months later ....
Korra :- (exhausted after a long post football match rush) Come on guys. It's past midnight, and I want to go home.
Asami :- (dressed as a level 9 magic user) Be gone simple peasant, (not looking up as she rolled the dice).
Korra :- (throwing her apron over her shoulder) Whatever. You guys just make sure you lock up when you're done.
Asami :- (distracted) Thank you. Love you.
Korra :- (walking towards the back of the dinner) love you too, you massive nerd.

Head cannon :-
Every year on Korra's birthday, (and the death day of Aang), Katara will withdraw herself from the village wide celebrations and go and sit in the Avatar temple in the southern water tribe and just sit with Aang's statue.
Upset that her best friend never wants to celebrate her birthday with her, Korra asks her mother what she's done wrong.
Sympathetically Senna explains how the day is bitter sweet for the 12 year old's elderly water bending master.
So, the following year, Korra skips her own party to follow Katara to the temple.
The newly turned teenager doesn't say anything as she lays out a traditional air nomad picnic on the blanket infront of her.
She then lights the candles on the base of Aang's statue with her fire bending and sits back, softly saying an ancient Avatar prayer, asking for Aang to come forth.
- By the grace of Raava, her prayer is answered. -
Until the sun sets, Katara laughs, eats and drinks with the love of her life. She never thought she would get another chance to say "I love you sweetie" or for Aang to reply with, "I love you more".
As the time comes for the couple to say goodbye, Aang whispers, "it's true what they say you know. Some loves really do last longer than one lifetime".
Before he fades, to be replaced with a relaxed looking Korra. And for a brief moment, when she opens her eyes, Katara sees a flash of Aang's eyes twinkling back at her.
The two never discussed what happened that day, but from then on Katara makes sure to be present in everyday of Korra's life, because everytime the girl laughs, or looks at her with twinkly mischievous eyes, she is reminded that an Avatar's love really does last longer than one lifetime.

Asami huffed out her frustration. For some reason, she just couldn't get to sleep.
With a tired groan, she flipped over onto her back and muttered "Babe. What time is it"?
"I Don't know, but you've been tossing and turning for hours" Korra grumbled.
"Sorry" Asami said sheepishly.
"It's fine" Korra reassured, as she sat up in bed. "Hey, do me a favour? Pass me my Trumpet real quick".
Confused, Asami passed it over.
Korra licked her lips and started to play.
Only a few seconds passed before they got a response.
"Who on earth is playing the Trumpet at 2 in the morning ! Some of us are trying to sleep here"! Yelled Tenzin from down the hall.
"Asami"? Korra chuckled.
"Yes Korra" ? Asami tried, fighting to keep a straight face.
"It's 2 am by the Tenzin clock".
Asami giggled. "Good night Korra".
"Good night Sami".

Korra entered the operating room, pulling of her latex gloves with her assistant Bolin following close behind.
As masks were placed over both surgeons faces, they glanced over their patient's chart.
"Are you ready"? Korra asked Bolin.
"Ready doctor Korra".
"Then let's get started".
- some time later -
"Forehead wipe" Korra ordered as Bolin wiped the sweat off her brow.
"Forceps. Scalpel. Quickly nurse, we're loosing him" Korra said urgently.
"Right away doctor" Bolin said.
After several tense moments Korra was close. "Nearly there" she muttered to herself.
BEEEEEEEEEEEP
"Damn it" Korra huffed, throwing down the tweezers as the board games red nose lit up.
She then turned to Bolin with a somber expression on her face as she pulled down her face mask. "I'm afraid we've lost him nurse. I'm calling it. Please inform the poor man's family".
"Of course doctor".
"..... you guys take game night really seriously huh"? Asked Opal from the sofa opposite them.
"Tell me about it" Mako grumbled as he twisted the game of operation towards him, and replacing the little plastic objects Korra had already removed.
"Just never play Cluedo with them" Kuvira warned her.
"Why not"? Opal asked.
"Korra wrote my obituary in the local paper. My parents thought it was real and planned my funeral" Asami deadpanned.
"I said I was sorry" Korra mumbled guilty.
"You did what"!? Opal questioned in shock.
"Yeah" Kuvira chuckled, "has old man Sato forgiven you yet by the way"?
"I still sleep in a tent in the garden Kuv. What do you think"? Korra grumbled.
"The joys of living with the in-laws hey Kor" Kuvira chuckled.
"Shut up Kuvira".
"Play nice" Asami said playfully.
"Only if you're on my team for capture the flag next week" Korra grinned.
"I'll inform the police of rogue uni students then" Opal giggled.
"Now you're getting it" Bolin smiled, kissing his girlfriend's cheek.
"What have I sign on for"? Opal questioned teasingly.
"Hell" Mako supplied.
"Get out while you can" Kuvira added.
"Send for help" Asami tagged on.
"We're not that bad"! Korra and Bolin whined.

Flight attendant :- Ladies and gentlemen, we are preparing for our descent, please make sure that all small items are secured and that your trays are in their upright position.
Kuvira put her tray upright and fixed it into position, before glancing at Korra.
Korra :- What. Why are you looking at me ?
Kuvira :- Are you secure ?
Korra :- (deadpan) I WILL hurt you.

Asami entered the kitchen and frowned at the sight infront of her.
Korra had the ingredients for a cake spaced out on the work surface infront of her, but instead of adding the weighed out ingredients to a mixing bowl, she was pack them up in a large cardboard box.
"Um, Korra"? Asami questioned.
"Hhmm"? Korra asked as she added the recipe and started sealing the box.
"What are you doing"?
"The manager of IKEA is retiring and I wanted to get her a cake".
Asami just face palmed. "Forget I asked".

Kya :- (enthusiastically points) yeah it's one of Korra's. See it says you're paw-some. Get it?
Lin :- (scoffing for appearance sake) why would I find that funny, I'm not five.
Kya :- (shrugging) okay fine. Give it back.
Lin :- (protectively cradling the sticker to her chest) no way I earned this, back off.

It was early morning and Aang and Sokka were hungry.
"I don't know Sokka. She seems pretty tired still" Aang whispered anxiously as they gathered around the girl.
"It'll be fine. Annoying eachother is how we show love" Sokka said dismissively. Before he knelt in a comfortable position next to his sister and started to poke her cheek with his finger. "Katara. Katara. Katara. Katara. Kat- AAAAAGGGGHHHHHH".
The next thing the Avatar knew, Sokka was pinned to the wall of the cave they had overnighted in, encased in a wave of thick ice.
"Okay. New rule. No early morning wake up calls unless the fire nation is trying to kill us again" Katara said as she simply rolled over and berried her face into her pillow.
"But. We're hungry" Aang mumbled sadly.
"You're the Avatar Aang. I'm pretty sure you can figure out how to make porridge".
"But .... ".
"One hundred ice crunches. Right now" Katara said in her 'sifu' voice.
"What! Katara".
"Now Avatar- in- training Aang".
"Yes Sifu Katara" He sighed as he lowered himself into his stance and started to form a thin layer of ice at his feet before turning it to water as he raised, to re-freeze it was he squatted again.
- needless to say. Neither boy attempted to wake the water bending master up unnecessarily again -.
