Hey, I’m the person having my teeth pulled (I didn’t actually mean to hit the anon button, hand tremors got me again lol) and I just want to thank everyone that’s sent in so many suggestions so quickly. It’s more than a little daunting, having to go months without even dentures, and all the ideas have been super reassuring. You’re all very lovely person!

I have to have all my teeth pulled next month, and then will have to wait at minimum three months before I can get dentures. I already have trouble feeding myself due to mobility issues and chronic pain in my limbs. Does anyone have any ideas of low effort foods one can eat with no teeth? I know premade mashed potatoes, yogurt, broth, apple sauce, and of course meal replacement shakes, but any other ideas would be welcome

I’m the anon whose post was last, the one who lost access to a lot of kitchen stuff.
I just wanted to thank everyone who commented with ideas so much. It’s been a rough time and I didn’t expect the outpouring of love and support and so many good options people came up with.
Things have been getting better. I’ve been able to use some of the appliances and stuff in my work’s break room while I’m there, which helps. Instant oats with dried fruit has been a suggestion that’s really helped too - thank you to the person who recommended it!
So yeah, big hugs to you and to everyone who responded to the post. Thank you all so much. ❤️

Hey um so my living situation suddenly changed and I no longer have consistent access to many utensils, a stove, oven, freezer or microwave. I have limited access to a fridge and some pantry space as well a kettle for boiling water.
I realise this isn’t necessarily specific to spoons, but I am also low spoons due to chronic illness and I thought this situation might be helped by some low spoons meal ideas.
Does anyone have any food ideas that require limited storage and prep? Preferably with some nutrition to sustain me. I’m currently living off cans of tuna, cereal and pretzels.
Hi anon, I'm scheduling this to publish tomorrow early so we can hopefully get you some answers quickly. I will add my thoughts later

have just discovered egg ramen and it is so good and filling for something so cheap! i usually cook it in the microwave in one minute intervals:
break the ramen packet up (so it fits better in the bowl and so the noodles aren't too long) and microwave for 1 minute
stir in flavor packet and crack in raw egg (DO NOT STIR), microwave for 1 minute
if you want, add frozen vegetables (like chopped carrots, peas, or corn) and microwave for 1 more minute
you can microwave more until the egg is fully cooked/until the noodles are to your preferred softness, but TAKE BOWL OUT every additional 30-60 seconds so it doesn't boil over
takes about 6-7 minutes altogether and takes more spoons than like. a pb&j, but less spoons than a "real" meal
🥚🍜
Edit: some people have had bad experiences microwaving eggs, so please look in the notes and use caution!

hey, so I’m in chemo, am gluten free and low egg and need ideas for high protein kind of ‘nibble’ meals (also low iron). I have little appetite and everything tastes funky. help?
followers, ideas? esp if you've been through chemo or know someone who has
Tumblr media
please ignore the "kick the craving" and "guilt-free" designation on these. they recently rebranded as a "diet food", but it used to say on the back that they were developed by a woman going through chemo who was craving a sweet treat with some protein. these are a really delicious little snack with some substantial nutrition to them.

a good meal i make a lot is avocado rice, just pop some minute rice in the microwave (or make fresh rice whatever floats your boat) and add like half an avocado and mix it up, you can add whatever spices you want! its pretty good and full of nutrients!
this is awesome! i would suggest as add-ins - furikake - a fried egg (or hardboiled egg - you can have these saved in your fridge!) - kimchi - nori sheets - butter or sesame oil for nourishing fats/taste - rice vinegar, a sprinkle of sugar and/or soy sauce - or the other half of the avocado too! :)

Low Budget, High Taste Milkshakes
Requires no ice cream! You’ll need:
some kind of blender
1 cup any milk
1 frozen banana
(opt) 2-3 tbsp of peanut/nut butter of choice
(opt) 2-3 tbsp of cocoa powder
(opt) a few ice cubes for that extra cold and frosty texture. try also frozen berries if you’re feeling fruity!
1. Slice up frozen banana. Keep the peel on if you want- it’ll get blended up either way and I promise you won’t even notice. If it’s a little too frozen hard, let it thaw for a few minutes. I usually use a full banana since the ones I buy are on the small side, so go with your heart on how much nanner you want.
2. Gently slam dunk the banana slices into the blender. Pour in milk. Add other stuff.
3. Close up the blender container tight and blend til smooth for about a minute. (I use a nutribullet, and I like to pulse the contents a few times first before going all the way through.) Do taste tests if needed, and adjust ingredients to your personal perfection.
4. Pour the milkshake into a cup. Give your blender container a good strong water rinse and it’ll be clean in seconds. If your blender bottle is designed to be handheld, feel free to skip the cup.
5. Sit down and enjoy your drink!

egg & tortilla
beat an egg and pour it into a hot pan (i use cooking spray first)
place a tortilla on top immediately
once the egg is a bit solid and starts sticking to the tortilla, flip the tortilla so the egg is on top
add some cheese - either grated or kraft singles are good. optional, also add some spinach
cover pan until the cheese melts and the egg is cooked through
i like to top mine with hot sauce, avocado, and cilantro. you can also fold it or roll it up and eat it that way.

Shakshouka
Middle Eastern/ North African eggs in spicy tomato sauce. Very much a ‘dump whatever you have in a pan and wait 10 minutes’ kind of thing.
Eggs
Tomato product (Fresh, diced, paste, crushed, whatever)
Cumin, paprika and/or chili powder
Salt and sugar
(Optional) Onion and garlic
(Optional) Choice of vegetable(s), diced
(Optional) Choice of carb
The actual recipe is somewhat vague because it all depends on what you end up using, but 95% of the time it’s gonna turn out pretty good.
Add vegetables (I like frozen peas, spinach and bell pepper) and tomato product to a small saucepan or skillet. For an extra boost, throw in some beans or lentils.
Add water or cook down as needed to get a saucy, stew-like consistency.
Season with salt, cumin, paprika and/or chili powder, and a pinch of sugar.
Make a little well using the back of a spoon and crack in an egg or two.
Cover and wait until egg is cooked to your liking.
Eat plain or with your favorite carb. I like pita best, but any bread/rice/pasta/etc is gonna get you there.
TLDR; Throw whatever you have in the fridge into tomato sauce with cumin and paprika, crack an egg on top.

Taco Soup
I’m probably gonna put this around a 2 out of 5 for spoons because you have to brown meat and drain cans for this recipe, but otherwise, it’s very easy! Maybe needs another spoon for putting up leftovers (because this makes a decent amount of leftovers)
Equipment:
Dutch oven (but a large pot works just fine - that’s what I use)
Something that stirs well
Optional colander for draining meat
Ingredients:
2 lbs ground meat (whatever lean/fat ratio you want)
1 pack of taco seasoning
1 pack of ranch seasoning
1 15.25oz can of corn, drained
1 15oz can mild chili beans
1 15oz can pinto beans, drained
1 14.5oz can stewed tomatoes
1 10oz can diced tomatoes with green chilis
1 4oz can chopped green chilis (optional, if you want more spice)
Directions:
In a dutch oven/large pot over medium heat, cook the ground meat until no longer pink, breaking into crumbles as it cooks; drain.
Add taco seasoning packet and mix.
Add everything else.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer. Cook uncovered for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Additional notes:
This is a customizable recipe. For example, I leave out the beans because I don’t like their texture. Still very tasty! I imagine you could probably add extra things into the soup and have it turn out well.
Good for leftover chips that you don’t want to go stale, but it’s also perfectly good on its own.
It’s fine to reheat this in the microwave instead of putting it back on the stove - heat to your liking. Usually anywhere from 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes works well for me.

Garlic cheese bread from whatever you've got on hand. This is less of a recipe and more of a guide. Anyways, you'll need:
Some kind of plain bread - not dense or super thin; needs to be able to soak up some butter
Butter or margarine
Garlic - any form except garlic salt
Optional whatever other seasonings you have on hand that go with bastardized vaguely italian food
Shredded mozzarella and/or parmesan(grated or shredded)
Instructions
Pre-heat your oven somewhere between 350F and 400F (thicker bread = lower temp + longer baking time, thinner bread = higher temp + shorter baking time)
Cut your bread either in slices or long-ways, and place on a baking sheet
Spread on a generous amount of butter/margarine (if it's in stick form and not softened, you can just cut some pads or little chunks and scatter 'em around on the bread)
Add your garlic of choice (I usually use the jarred minced stuff or a garlic & herb seasoning mix I can't remember the name of) and whatever other optional seasonings
Cover with the mozzarella/parmesan
Bake until the bread is crispy and your cheese is melted and just starting to brown. I think the longest it's ever taken for me is like 20 minutes
If you've got pizza sauce or pasta sauce, you can use it as a dip or just put it on the bread instead of the butter/margarine and make pizza. If you do decide to make pizza, you can also ignore the restrictions on dense/thin bread.
Bone apple teeth!
