Also, I finished the next chapter of my BuckTommy fic
It's 7800 words long and I still have to edit it, so new chapter will be up tomorrow. :-)

OMG this is SO FUCKING HILARIOUS. I was going over all my messages in discord BEFORE ep 04 where I was adamantly saying that BuckTommy was never gonna happen.
I've already admitted that I've been eating my words ever since (nom nom so delicious), but reading it all again... 😂
FIRMLY OF THE OPINION!
Well, there were riots, but it happened anyway, and the writers are so not stupid for it!
I WAS RIGHT FOR ONCE. Even if sarcastically so.
Long ass blah blah
And then, the conclusion of the whole saga, right after the ep:

I've had a similar thought. Yet I don't think it necessarily has to mean the conclusion you are drawing from it (though I'm also not saying that the relationship will last forever, but I'm not sure the name aspect is the pivotal one for it). Let me elaborate.
While you are right to point out that Evan is always linked to Buck's past, his childhood and a part of himself he's mostly left behind, being called Evan now and not fighting it (i.e. not correcting Tommy for it) could mean something else.
Evan is part of Buck, and probably a more vulnerable, hidden part of himself. As he currently explores aspects of himself he previously wasn't aware of, he also embraces parts of himself that he suppressed. He's both Buck and Evan, he's in the process of becoming "at ease and peace" with himself, as Bobby said last season.
There's no need hiding one side of himself anymore, or rather not acknowledging its existence. And while sexuality is just one aspect of all of that, I believe it's a very important one to help Buck become the truest version of himself that he's ever been.
So he can embrace and express the Buck aspect of himself more with some people, and the Evan aspect more with others. And maybe it doesn't matter all that much anymore, because it's just a name, and in a way a persona that he adopted.
He's just who he is, who he's always been, and the duality of things doesn't make him more torn and split up, it's what actually makes him whole.
(If that makes any sense, lol).
As much as I love Tommy calling Buck 'Evan', it also kind of feels like an omen.
(Bear with me a little, the buck/evan distinctions get a bit uhh).
Canon reasoning aside, as symbolism, it's clear-cut. Evan is the man Buck used to be, the kid he used to be, and with this piece of himself finally falling into place, there's some healing to be had for that past version of Buck as well. It's the start of a journey, and Buck can't make it if Evan doesn't as well.
And I've seen Buck referred to as a mask, a protection of Evan, but I think he's the man Evan evolved into. He got the nickname in the fire academy and never looked back, and there's something obvious about the way he stopped being Evan just as he became a firefighter and found his place with the 118. (Buck 1.0 was a mask, at least in part, but that's another story.)
For years, he has been Buck. Maddie is the only one who knew him when he was Evan, and she does call him by his name sometimes. There's also Eddie's infamous listen-to-me-goddamnit line. But that line during the will reveal works because 'Evan' is so jarring, not just to the viewers, but to Buck himself too. Even in s6, Chimney calls him Evan in front of the Buckley parents, and Buck is in the background looking confused as hell. It's not his name anymore, not really.
And I guess what I'm trying to say with all this is that Tommy calling him Evan (while cute) feels like it sets up the relationship to end. Because Evan doesn't really exist anymore; he's a part of Buck, certainly. All of us carry our past selves around, we're never really free of the people we used to be. But Buck grew beyond Evan, he grew up a bit and found his place in the world.
He's back to being Evan now that he's finding his footing with this new facet of himself. But in everything else he's still Buck. And I'm not sure it's insignificant.

Well, I'm currently working on this angsty Tommy Begins style fic (with my own head canon for his upbringing and past, that is different to what Lou described because I came up with it before he answered that Cameo).
Right now I'm putting him through more angst as he's in the army. Hope to publish the next chapter tomorrow. And then it'll be about 2 more and an epilog I guess.
can y’all write more Tommy angst so that tommy kinard needs a hug becomes an official tag
thank you
