Lights out, I still hear the rain. These images that fill my head now keep my fingers from making mistakes. Tell my voice what it takes to speak up, speak up, and keep my conscience clean when I wake.
She turned off the lights and laid in bed, staring up at the ceiling. Her hand reached out to the side of her, but she only slept alone now. Feeling the cold of the bed next to her made her sigh. She placed her hands on her stomach. She felt conflicted. Part of her was calm and at peace as she listened to the rain hitting the roof of her home. The other part fell into memories with him.Â
âAre you ready?â He asked her with a big smile. She couldnât help but laugh at his excitement. She had finally agreed to travel with him.Â
âLetâs get outta here!â She said excitedly and hugged him. Now it would just be them and the world to travel. Together they grabbed their bags and set off for the airport. First stop was the UK.Â
Her hands subconsciously roamed her body just as his would on her. She zoned in and out of the memories and pretended he was there, running his hands along her torso. It wasnât the same, but for just one moment she made herself believe he was there.Â
Now thereâs an aching in my back, a stabbing pain that says I lack the common sense and confidence to bring an end to promises that I make in times of desperate conversation. Hoping my night could be better than theirs in the end, just say when.Â
A stabbing pain took her focus, making her gasp loudly. She grit her teeth and took slow deep breaths. She groaned and waited for the pain to subside to go back to her memories.Â
Nights filled with passion, days filled with adventures. She couldnât get enough of it. They went back home every now and then to see their families for a bit. For the most part, they were inseparable. She loved that though. She loved being around him. She loved him.Â
Then the days changed and she hadnât been feeling well. She assumed it was the flu because she had been vomiting a lot. It was then she started distancing herself from him, not wanting to be a downer with their plans. âDear, wake up. Itâs time to go out and explore. Youâve been cooped up here the past 2 days.â He explained. She hadnât told him exactly how sick she had been feeling.Â
âYou go.â She whispered, keeping her eyes closed and turning her back on him.Â
âAre you sure?â He asked, concerned.Â
âCan you just go and leave me alone for the damn day?!â She snapped at him. She had grown irritable lately. She turned and glared at him. Through the glare she could see how hurt he looked.Â
âAre you sure you donât want me to stay? Are you okay, dear?â He asked softly.Â
âI just need to be alone fo fucking once! Jesus fucking Christ! I need some time to myself, donât you fucking get that?â She snapped once more. He looked down then stood up and turned his back on her.Â
âOkay, Iâll be back tonight.â He whispered then started getting ready to leave. She waited for 20 minutes after he left then got out of bed and started getting ready for her lone mission. He couldnât know what she was going to be doing today.
Donât make this easy, I want you to mean it. Jasey, say youâll mean it. Youâre dressed to kill, Iâm calling you out. Donât waste your time on me.
She couldnât make this easy on him. She needed him to feel like them not being together anymore was a good thing. She started as many arguments as she could. One night he stumbled into the hotel room drunk. âHave you been drinking?â She asked as if it wasnât obvious. She tried to hide her hurt because it hurt knowing she was the cause of his excessive drinking.Â
âWhat do you think?â He scoffed.Â
âAre you fucking kidding me?â She asked, raising her voice at him.Â
âNope.â He said, making the âpâ sound pop.Â
âGod, itâs like I donât even know you anymore.â She scoffed and walked to the bathroom. She quickly closed the bathroom door and locked it.Â
âYou donât know me anymore? Iâm not the one thatâs fucking changed!â He yelled through the door.Â
âYou trying to say Iâve changed?â She asked.
âYouâre not wrong.âÂ
âHow have I changed?âÂ
âYou were never this big of a bitch until a few months ago.âÂ
âFine, then donât waste your precious time on me! Just tell me to leave and stop wasting your time!âÂ
âMaybe I will!âÂ
âSo, thatâs how you really feel, huh?â She asked, hitting the door before sliding to the floor and starting to silently cry.Â
Iâve never told a lie and that makes me a liar. Iâve never made a bet, but we gamble with desire. Iâve never lit a match with intent to start a fire, but recently the flames are getting out of control. Call me a name. Kill me with words. Forget about me, it's what I deserve.
She knew she did it to herself and she knew she was lying to herself when she told herself that she deserved the hate she got from him. She pushed him to his limit every single day. Pushed him to say rude things he later apologized for. Finally she made her mind up on what to do.Â
They were getting ready to go to Sweden next. They left the next morning, but she had other plans for herself. Plans he wasn't privy to. When he went out to get a few things, she sat down and wrote a note that he wouldnât see for a little bit which she was fine with. He would read it when she was ready for him to.Â
She stopped the constant arguments and turned the nights back into love filled nights. She wished she hadnât done that as it made her decision harder to follow through with, but it was too late now. Her plan was already made and things were already falling into place for it. So quickly she wrote. When she was done, she folded the paper and placed it in his bag under an article of clothing.Â
I was your chance to get out of this town, but I ditched the car and left you to wait outside. I hope the air will serve to remind you that my heart is as cold as the clouds of your breath and my words are as timed as the beating in my chest.Â
The next day was cold as they got ready to leave for Sweden. It was getting ready to be winter. She was still following through with her plan. âFuck.â She whispered loud enough for him to hear as they walked through the lobby of the hotel.Â
âWhat is it?â He asked softly.Â
âI just realized I left my charger in the hotel room. Can you go get it for me?â She asked. âIâll wait right here for you.âÂ
âYeah, Iâll be right back.â He said with a nod and turned around to go back on the elevator. As soon as he was in it and going up, she walked outside as fast as she could and got the taxi she called while in the bathroom pretending to shower.Â
âTo the airport please.â She said quickly. She was going home. She had to. He walked into their room and looked around. He checked everywhere, but couldnât find her charger. Finally he gave up and went back down to the lobby.Â
âI think you packed it-â He cut himself off when he realized she wasnât waiting for him. He sighed and looked down. He knew this day would come, he just always wished it wouldnât. She let fears fuel her life. It was inevitable that she would leave him at some point. Why had he fallen for that trick? He shook his head and went to the front desk to check out. Then he started on his trip to Sweden.Â
He didnât think he should find her right now. Not after all their arguments lately. Not when she made it clear in the moment that she had made up her mind. You couldnât change that womanâs mind once it was made up. On the way to Sweden, he wanted to charge his phone and started to search his bag for his charger. He felt a piece of paper and pulled it out and read it.Â
âI canât do this anymore. I just have to leave. Itâs nothing you said or did. Itâs really just all me. I will always love youâŚbut I can never see you again. Donât come after me. Donât message me. Please just block me on everything and forget about me. You donât need me fucking up your life anymore. Have a good life. Enjoy traveling. Donât worry about me. Iâll be fine.â The letter said.Â
She still remembered those days so clearly. She avoided every person in the airport that looked even remotely like him. Her best friend picked her up from the airport and brought her home. Once she was home, she got on her phone and blocked him on every social media. She knew he wouldnât do it. He didnât need her in his life and didnât have to see what she was up to in life. With a sigh, she turned on her side and forced herself to sleep. She needed to stop thinking about that. That was all 6 months ago. She shouldnât keep holding onto it, but she did.Â
*6 Years Later*
âSweetheart, why donât you go get a piece of candy. Youâve been doing really good in school.â She said to her little boy. With a nod he skipped off through the store. She chuckled and kept walking, continuing to shop. That is until she had zoned out and ran into someone elseâs cart. âI am so sorry about that, I mustâve zoned out.â She said then looked at the person. Almost instantly she recognized him and took in a sharp breath. âOh my god, itâs you.âÂ
âThe one and only. What? Did you think I died? Thatâs impossible.â He said that usual arrogant attitude was still there.Â
âNo, I just didnât think youâd come back here. I thought youâd stay out of the country. You always liked that better.â She whispered.Â
âWell, if it makes you feel any better, Iâm only here temporarily.â He explained.Â
âOh, okay.â She said as her son came running back.Â
âMommy! Mommy! Look what I got!â He said excitedly. She looked down at him with a big smile as he waved a KitKat bar in the air.Â
âOooo, our favorite! Why donât you put it in the cart, baby?â She asked, he nodded excitedly and put it in the cart then stood on the end, holding onto the basket happily.Â
âYou have a kid?â Her old friend asked, reminding her who she ran into.Â
âI do.â She said softly.Â
âHow old is he?â Her ex asked curiously looking at the young boy.Â
âHeâs 5.â She promised herself she would NEVER tell him he has a kid. He never wanted any, so why should she put that on him now? Itâs too late now.Â
âWait, what?â He asked, confused. He was already piecing together whether it was his son or not.Â
âDonât even try to think that. I had a one night stand as soon as I got home to get over you. Donât worry about it. I have to go. I have to get to his Parent Teacher Conference.â She said curtly. With that she went to finish her shopping. She felt bad for lying to him, but he never wanted to have any kids. She could NEVER tell him the truth. He would have dropped everything to be there with her through it, but he didnât want kids and she wasnât going to make him drop everything for something he never really wanted.Â

Could you fall in love with me? Ohoh. Love is such a mind blowing mystery. I know youâre very busy, and the timingâs not quite right, but I would take a bus on a late Sunday night to see you. To see you.Â
As she walked around checking on everyone, she finally walked up to him. The cute pilot. He was sitting alone and looked deep in thought. âHey, (JN).â She said with a smile. He looked at her and gave a small smile.Â
âPrincess.â He said with a small nod.Â
âHow are you holding up?â She sat down next to him. Everyone was a little out of it since they had lost Diego.Â
âIâm good. Donât worry about me, Princess.â He tried to act like everything was fine, but she could see the sadness behind his eyes.Â
âJakeâŚIâm scared too.â She whispered looking into his eyes.Â
âProbably not scared about the same thing as me.â He mumbled quietly and looked away.Â
âWhat?â She tried to get him to look at her once more, but he wouldnât.Â
âNothing to worry about, Princess.â He said with his signature smirk. She could hear the lie in his voice though and didnât trust it one bit. She placed a hand on him and squeezed.Â
âJake, please talk to me.â She begged. He pulled away from her touch.Â
âAlready told ya, Princess, Iâm fine.â With that he got up and walked away. For a moment she thought of leaving him alone, but then she noticed him try to sneakily look back at her. Slowly she got up and followed him. He took the stairs all the way up to the roof. She found him near the edge of the building, staring off into the distance. He mustâve known she was following him as he didnât even turn to her when he spoke once more.Â
âThe only thing wrong is that I stupidly fell in love with someone I canât have especially if we never get out of here, and they likely donât feel the same for me. Weâve had a couple moments, but that doesnât mean they feel the same for me. Besides, the timing really isnât right.â He said honestly.Â
âIf it helps at all, I completely understand that. I feel the same way.â She admitted quietly. She had fallen in love with the snarky pilot. Something about him always pulled her in. She didnât know what it was about him. Then again, she always loved being around mysterious people and if he was anything he was definitely mysterious sometimes. Sometimes he could be an open book and sometimes he would put walls up.Â
âYou do?â He was skeptical and raised an eyebrow at her.Â
âYes, I do.â She admitted softly.Â
âWith Captain America, right? Or is it Pippi Longstocking? Or Sarah Conner? I see how you are around them.â He had his signature smirk, but there was hurt in his eyes. He WANTS it to be him, he just doesnât think it would be. How could it be? He wasnât the most optimistic or best person she could choose of the group on this island.Â
âIf you see how I am with them then you shouldâve realized how I am with you too.â Her words shocked him. He tried to hide his shock and forced the smirk to be all that was shown.Â
âI do, but that doesnât necessarily mean anything.â He needed her to explicitly say it was him for him to believe it. He just couldnât believe that it could be him.Â
Could you be my boyfriend? Ohoh. Boys are such a big book that Iâve barely read. I know that youâre much older and youâve had many lovers, but thereâs no place Iâd rather be than underneath the covers next to you, next to you.Â
She didnât say a word. Instead, she leaned in and softly pressed her lips to his. âDoes that mean anything to you?â She whispered the question when she pulled away. She couldnât read his expression.
âAs if I havenât seen you kiss the girls I named. Maybe you just wanted to kiss me.â He whispered, hurt clear in his voice. She took a deep breath before speaking again.Â
âCould you fall in love with me?â She whispered. When he didnât say anything back, she took another deep breath and spoke a little louder. âCould you be my boyfriend?âÂ
âWait, what?â He did a double take, unable to believe his ears.Â
âI know youâre older than me by a few years and youâve probably had many lovers where Iâve had very few, but I just wanna be with you. I want to sleep together every night and-â He cut her words off with a passionate kiss, he couldnât hold back any longer.Â
âI want that too.â
And Iâm telling myself to be patient, and Iâm telling myself to wait. âCause when it comes to your love, I over anticipate. And I know that Iâve done this before, and I know that I canât predict fate, but when it comes to your love I over anticipate. Â
âIâve been imagining you saying that, but I never thought you would. Iâve been trying to be so patient with waiting for a sign that you felt the same. We canât predict fate or if weâll ever get off this island. If we do, I know you canât set foot in the US, but Iâll do anything to make it work. I donât even know if weâll live through all this to even have the chance of making it off this island. All I know is I want to be with you so goddamn bad.âÂ
âMC, I want that too.â He whispered as he tucked a loose hair behind her ear and stared into her eyes.Â
âDo you wanna come with me to my room?â She asked softly. He carefully pressed her body to his.Â
âYeahâŚyeah, I do.â He said, standing up and taking her hand in his. Their fingers laced together. They used the stairs and walked hand-in-hand to her room. Once in there they locked the door so no one would be able to walk in and interrupt them. Jake instantly started covering her in a frenzy of kisses. Some were soft, sweet, and passionate while others were rough, hot, and passionate.Â
âOh god, Jake, yes!â She moaned out as he bit down hard on her neck. She pushed his jacket down off his arms and onto the floor. She pushed him away to take her shirt off and he did the same. She took the break to lean forward to him. She bit and nibbled on his neck, nipping his neck, collarbone, and chest. His hands moved down and worked on unbuttoning and unzipping her shorts then pulling them down. He then took his own pants off as well as her bra.Â
He slipped his hand into her panties and started rubbing her. âMmmm, Jake, right there.â She gasped. His touch made her melt. She held on to him tightly so she wouldnât fall as her legs were starting to feel like jello. Suddenly he just stopped and stared into her eyes.Â
âGod, I want you so bad.â He practically growled, lust and love in his eyes. She leaned forward until her lips were right next to his ear.Â
âWhy donât you take what you want, then?â She whispered seductively. With that, he picked her up and threw her down on the bed. Just as quickly as he threw her down, he was on top of her. His mouth traveled all over her body, licking, kissing, and nipping everywhere he could. His calloused hands ran along every inch of her body. âOh, fuck!â She gasped as his hand stopped between her thighs and stripped her of her underwear. His hand moved back between her thighs and he slipped a finger inside her then quickly added a second while his tongue went to work on the most sensitive part of her.Â
She gasped and put a hand in his hair, grabbing a fistfull. Her back arched in pleasure and she let out a moan. âOh, fuck, Iâm close!â She hissed at him. He loved what he was doing to her, but stopped suddenly. She whimpered at him stopping. He stood up and stripped himself of his boxers then positioned himself in between her legs. Slowly, he pushed his member into her until all of it was in her. She gasped as each inch went in. He smiled down at her and kissed her as he started to thrust in and out of her.Â
He started off slow, but with encouragement from her he started going faster. He brought his hand down once more to rub her while he fucked her. âOh, fuck, Jake, Iâm gonnaâŚâ She whispered and he nodded.Â
âMe too, Princess.â He whispered back between thrusts. In seconds they both simultaneously reached their climaxes. Jake rode out his high then rolled off her and laid down next to her. He looked at her with a big smile. âThat was something else, Princess. But so was last night.â He whispered and winked. Last night was their first time before the Watchers showed up and stole Diego. She slowly turned to him as her thoughts raced.Â
So Iâm making big plans to see you, âcause I think that we could be great. Yes, when it comes to your love, I over anticipate. Could you fall in love with me? Ohoh. Will I solve this mystery? Iâm bracing for a letdown, âcause I know you like your space, but my head is full of love songs that I just canât erase about you, about you, about you.Â
â(JN)âŚâ She whispered, fear barely noticeable in her voice.Â
âWhatâs wrong?â He asked her instantly.Â
âWhen we get off this island, Iâd really like to come see you in Costa Rica.â She said softly, closing her eyes so she wouldnât have to look at him. He placed a soft kiss on her forehead before placing another kiss on her lips.Â
âIâd love that (MC).â He answered sincerely. She let out a breath she didnât know she was holding in and opened her eyes to look at him. She thought it was all talk and heâd turn her down.Â
âCould you fall in love with me?âÂ
âOh, Princess, I already have.âÂ

________________________________________________________________
Iâm a ghost in your eyes. A shadow you canât seem to recognize. I have a thought of you for every star in the sky, but Iâm scared Iâll never cross your mind. Yeah, Iâm scared.
Drake had known from the minute he saw her as their waitress that he wanted her. He also knew he couldnât have her. She lived in New York and he lived in Cordonia. That changed when she was flying with them to Cordonia because Maxwell wanted her to be his houseâs girl and in the running to marry (P/N).Â
He couldnât stand Maxwell at that point. Not only had he wanted to know this girl and maybe date her in the future, now he had to sit back and watch her compete for the love of his best friend. The same best friend could give her everything and was already head over heels for her. Instead of doing what he wanted by being close with her and getting to know her, he pushed her away all the time and practically everything he would say to her was a snide comment.Â
He had to make her think he hated her. Maybe then it would hurt less when she became queen. He pushed the thoughts away, taking a swig of his whiskey. He had hoped he was just a ghost to her, a shadow, anything that just wasnât him and wouldnât be recognized as anything but someone who âhatedâ her. That was the problem though, he didnât hate her. He loved her.Â
Every time he stared at the stars he wished she was there and imagined seeing constellations that looked like her. So beautiful and out there. He probably never even crossed her mind. Or at least he thought until that night, he had just saved her from Tariqâs unwanted advances. She was lucky enough he walked by and heard some of the commotion that night.Â
And I canât count the times. I stayed awake pretending you were mine. Now Iâm left with this emptiness inside. Oh, why canât I make mine?
He relaxes back into his chair, fiddling with the glass of whiskey on the desk in front of him. His mind raced. He couldnât help but remember the times he stayed awake at night letting his imagination run wild. After imaging so many different things consisting of him and her together. Knowing it was always just something that happened in his mind he felt empty inside.Â
He knew he needed to stop thinking about these things. This was the woman his best friend is in love with. He canât have these thoughts about her. He remembered nights that he felt like screaming into the night wondering why they couldnât have just met under different circumstances and she could be hers.Â
Downing the rest of the whiskey, he stood up and walked to the stables and found her horse. (H/N) was a beautiful horse, her owner being beautiful too was just a perfect match anytime (MC) had the chance to ride her. He smiled and grabbed a brush and started brushing her. After brushing her, he walked back to the castle. He found his way to the bar again, but it was closed so he searched behind the bar. (P/N) wouldnât mind. He grabbed a bottle of whiskey and placed some money in its place before walking back to the stables.Â
He climbed up into the hay loft and sat down before opening the bottle and started drinking. If he was going to get drunk while thinking about her, it wasnât going to be somewhere anyone could easily find him. He couldnât keep her off his mind tonight.Â
Will our stars ever align? Will two hearts beat in time? These words you should always remember, to you, my heart I surrender. Chasing love that could never be mine. Maybe one day youâll realize. These words you should always remember, to you, my heart I surrender.Â
He remembered how she looked at him after he saved her from the potential r@pe. The confessions that night. It was all too much. He kept taking swigs from the bottle and felt as if it was really starting to affect him. He zoned out into a memory of that night.Â
He went to leave, but she stopped him. She moved in front of the door and glared at him. âDrake, you got hurt for me. Iâm not letting you leave this room until you let me take a look at you.â With a sigh he stopped. There was no nice way around it. âYou can start by taking your shirt off. I think he hit your ribs pretty hard. They could be broken.â She said, concern being the only thing showing in her eyes.Â
âWow, youâve got a real bossy side to you, you know that?â He asked, but he kinda liked how bossy she was being. It was kind of hot to him.Â
âYou think Iâm being bossy?â She asked and he nodded in response. She glared once more. âPLEASE take your shirt off, Sir Drake.â She said sarcastically.Â
âWell, all you had to do was ask nicely.â He tried his best to hide a smile. She really was adorable. He slowly sat in a chair and took his shirts off and watched as she started looking at his chest. âSo, doctor, see anything alarming?â He felt her hands roam his torso. Fleeting over his ribs and back, he tried his damndest to hide how much he loved feeling her touch. She can never know he likes her.Â
âYouâre going to have a few spectacular bruisesâŚâ He could have sworn he could hear hurt in her voice. He wouldnât look at her face.Â
âYeah, Tariq hits harder than youâd think. He almost impressed me.â He said nonchalantly. It was true. He had never expected someone like Tariq to hit as hard as he did. She stayed quiet and had a sad look. He took a deep breath before speaking once more. âWhat is it?âÂ
âI canât believe you got hurt because of me. Itâs all my fault.â She whispered. He couldnât believe she thought it was her fault. How could it be her fault? He couldnât help it when his bout of anger came out.Â
âNo, I got hurt because of Tariq. Nothing that happened tonight was your fault. Donât ever let yourself think like that, okay, (MC/LN).â He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair to try and calm himself down. He stared at her. Opening his mouth once more. âYou can be soâŚnever mind.â He stopped himself from saying more. He didnât want her to get the wrong idea. âHey, werenât you supposed to be tending to my wounds?âÂ
âOh! Right. I think one of the servants fills this bucket of ice every night. You know, just in case I need to chill some champagne.â She said getting back on the subject of what she was supposed to be doing. God sheâs beautiful and adorable.Â
âOr ice down a friendâs bruises?â He suggested with clear amusement in his voice but not showing in his facial expression.Â
âExactly.â She said as he glanced around the room. He was doing his damndest to not look at her for long periods of time.Â
âAnd it looks like someoneâs left a fully stocked liquor cabinet in the corner here, soâŚâ He got up for a second and grabbed a bottle of whiskey as she wrapped ice in a cloth. Drake poured himself a glass of the whiskey then turned to her to ask if she wanted some too as he sat back down.Â
âI wouldnât make you drink alone.â She said with a very small smile. He chuckled quietly as he poured her a glass too.Â
âThanks.â He said through his chuckle. He downed his glass of whiskey rather quickly as she pressed the cloth to the bruises forming on his ribs. He glared at her and almost hissed in pain. âHey! That hurts!â He practically growled. He didnât want to yell at her or anything, but it hurt and he couldnât hold it back.Â
âIs that better?â She asked as she pressed the cloth more gently. He could tell how bad she felt for making him hurt more.Â
âActually, yeah.â He said gratefully and honestly. He didnât want her to feel bad. So he added on a joke with a big smile. âDidnât realize you could be so gentle (MC/LN).â
âIâve got a gentle sideâŚyou just donât get to see it very often.â She didnât notice his smile because she was checking his back.Â
âI could stand to see more of it.â He admitted. He liked this soft side of her. He turned to catch her eye and just stared into her eyes for a moment. When he looked away, he looked down at his empty glass the whiskey was in. âThank you.â He said quietly. Slowly he poured himself another glass of whiskey. âI know I donât act very grateful for anything most of the time, but I doâŚcare about you.âÂ
If anyone found out and was upset over him saying that, he would just blame it on the whiskey. He could say he had drank too much that day and didnât remember it. Everyone knew he drank, some days more than others. He struggled with it in the past but hadnât actually been drinking a lot since meeting (MC).Â
âDrakeâŚI care about you too.â She admitted softly. He was surprised and looked at her once more.Â
âYouâŚyou do?â He was really surprised.Â
âYes. Of course I do. I definitely donât care about you as Iâm sitting here icing your bruises.â She said sarcastically.Â
âYou shouldnât say things like that (MC/LN).âÂ
âWhy not?â
âYouâre here for Prince (PN), all of the suitors are. And, well, so is the entire court. All of the nobles, all the royals, all the servants, even. Everything and everyone in this place exists to orbit around (PN). You could almost hate him for it, if he werenât so damn likable. Itâs dangerous for people like you and me to forget that.â With the last thing he said he tried to hide the hurt in his voice.Â
âWhat are you getting at, Drake?âÂ
âHell, (MC/LN). Donât make me say it.â He looked down at the whiskey left in his glass. With a gulp he finished it off and spoke once more. âIf we met somewhere elseâŚanywhere else. At a club in New York, or in an airport, or at a partyâŚif you hadnât been our waitress that night, and I hadn't been sitting next to (PN)...do you think all of thisâŚdo you think it couldâve been differentâŚbetween us?â He couldnât stop himself from asking that. He just had to know. It would drive him crazy if he never knew.Â
âDrakeâŚit wouldâve been different. Sure you wouldâve still been druff and I wouldnât have let you get away with anythingâŚbut all the rest? Yeah, it wouldâve been different. Maybe everything wouldâve been different.âÂ
âMCâŚâ He whispered in disbelief. Could she really have feelings for him too? He reached out and brushed his fingers against her hand before realizing what he was doing. He stopped himself. Why would he do this to (PN)? Anger at himself spiked inside him. âWhat am I doing?â He growled at himself. âI need to go.â He didnât want to leave, but he knew he had to. He stood up and headed straight for the door. Suddenly he felt her arms around him, making him stop. â(MC/LN)...you shouldnâtâŚâ He whispered, finally thinking straight. He canât do this with the woman his best friend loves. Heâll never have her and letting this happen would just make everything worse. He quickly put his shirts on, on his way to the door.Â
âDonât you get tired of being so careful all the time? I know I doâŚand now I have to be careful every damn day with what I do and say here. Everything.â She whispered into his back.Â
âIâm always tired of being careful.â He admitted. His heartbeat sped up. Without thinking, he turned around and pulled her close. His fingers tangled in her hair. Then he took a deep breath clearing his mind once more. He canât be doing this. He pushed her away and turned to the door once more. âIâve got to get out of here. Now. Before I do something we might both regret.âÂ
âOkay.â She whispered.Â
He pushed the thought out of his mind. He had wanted to go back into her room afterwards, but instead he just daydreamed about what he wished happened instead. Most nights since then heâs been unable to stop imagining her in her underwear again and being close with her. Heâd imagine pulling her close and kissing her without a care in the world. He thought about that and so much more. He knew he could never have it though. She would be queen soon enough. There was no way (P/N) wouldnât choose her by the end of the social season, sheâs wowed the press and everyone here.Â
She may like him, but she probably didnât love him like he loved her. No, instead everything had to stay as a daydream. They would stay secret thoughts in his mind. Nobody could ever know that he too was in love with the waitress from New York. Though he wished desperately they could be together, he knew it would never happen and he had to be okay with that.Â

P/N=Prince/Kingâs name
________________________________________________________________
*Drakeâs POV*
I couldnât help but smile when looking at her. She was so beautiful. I noticed it the night we met, but I knew as soon as she saw (P/N) that she would favor him over me. Thatâs how it always goes. Always.
She tried explaining to me that things would have been different if we had met in a different way. I still couldnât believe that. How could anyone want me more than him?
âWhat are you thinking about?â She asked softly, walking up to him. I was outside at the stables and it was the middle of the night. Why is she out here?
âWhat are you doing here, (MC/LN)?â I asked with more force than I meant to.Â
âWhy am I here in this spot with you right now? Or why am I here in general?â She asked with a raised eyebrow.Â
âDonât do that, (MC/LN). We both know why youâre here in general.â I said. I wanted to know why she was out of bed at this time of night.Â
âFollow me.â She said with a smile then turned around. Curious, I followed her as she climbed up the barn and on top of the roof. I donât actually know how we got there, but it was a perfect spot to watch the stars, like that one night before the storm. âWhy do you think Iâm here? Tell me why Iâm here.â She whispered, looking up at the stars.
âYouâre here to clear your name and marry King (P/N). Thatâs why youâre here.â I said. There was no thought about it. She continued staring at the stars for a moment before looking back at me.Â
âYouâre wrong, ya know.â She whispered, staring into my eyes. âItâs you.âÂ
âWhat?â I asked. She couldnât be here telling me that she came all this way just for me..Â
âItâs you. I came here for you. Not for (P/N). You. Itâs always been you.â With that she turned and looked at the stars once more. âI know youâll probably dismiss it and say itâs not true, but I swear to you that I came for you.âÂ
âHow has it always been me?â I asked. I needed to know what was going on in her mind.
âWhen I saw you that night in New York, before I saw (P/N), I knew I wanted to get to know you. Sure I hung out with him that night, but you had Maxwell and Tariq. So I showed him the statue of liberty like he had wanted. But when Maxwell asked me to come here to be in the competition to marry (P/N), I really said yes hoping to get closer to you.â
âNo, thereâs no way.âÂ
âDrake, listen to me. Iâm not lying when I say that I came here for you. Notice how Iâve failed miserably at impressing the nobles. I donât care about that or royalty or any of this. I want to clear my name and be with you. And if we canât clear my name, so be it. Either way, I want to be with you.âÂ
âYouâre serious, arenât you?â
She turned to me once more, a very serious expression on her face.Â
âWhy would I lie? What reason is there?â
âHow could you choose me over him?â
âOh, DrakeâŚâ
Slowly, she brought her hand up and caressed my cheek. I couldnât help it when I leaned into it. She leaned in and softly pressed her lips to mine.Â
âDrake, you need to stop lying to yourself. I know thatâs hard to do after believing the lies for so long and being insecure, but Iâm telling the truth. Drake Walker, I am in love with you and I want to be with you.â
âMC, why would you come all this way for me? Why would you put up with all this bullshit?â
âListen, Drake, when I clear my name, I am going to tell (P/N) that I donât want to marry him. If you donât want me, Iâll understand and Iâll just go back to New York or something. Either way, Iâll be leaving. Thatâs only if you donât want me, though.âÂ
She looked away once more and I could see her eyes starting to gloss as if she was holding back tears. When she spoke again, her voice shook.Â
âBut if you donât want me, you should probably tell me soon, so I donât get my hopes up even more to watch them get torn down. It would just be easier for the both of us if you let me know now.â
âWhy wouldnât I want to be with you?â
âBecause Iâm never good enough.âÂ
I looked at her shocked. Did she really feel that way about herself? I hadnât noticed her looking at me or the tear that slid down her cheek until she chuckled darkly.Â
âYou thought you were the only one who had self esteem issues?â
There was a dark look in her eyes. The worst part was that I knew that look. Iâve had that look many times myself.Â
âAt least hide that youâre pitying me.â She got upset and started to move to leave me. I quickly grabbed her hand.Â
âIâm not pitying you.â I said sincerely. âI just didnât expect someone as perfect as you to think so lowly of yourself.â
âEven the most confident people have self esteem issues.â She whispered, pulling her hand from my grasp and finding the quickest way down off the roof. I got up as quickly as I could and followed her.Â
âMC, wait!â I called after her. She stopped abruptly and looked at me. I could see a flash of anger in her eyes. Without really thinking, I pulled her close and wrapped my arms around her waist. âYouâre the most beautiful girl I have ever met. I just didnât think my feelings would ever be reciprocated. Especially with (P/N) around.â With that, I kissed her passionately, trying to fill her with love to fight back against the self-hate.Â
I didnât want her feeling how I always felt. Maybe she didnât want me to feel that either. It felt like forever before we pulled away.Â
âMC, I want to be with you.â I admitted. âI want to get to know you better and have you get to know me better, but this is all so different in my life. Iâve never been so close with anyone but (P/N) and Savannah. And I donât want this to ruin my friendship with (P/N).â
âThen let me talk to him.â She said softly. âIâll let him down softly. I just want to be with you...Plus, me even attempting to be with him now is such bullshit. Heâs engaged to Madeleine. Am I supposed to just ignore that? Me and you both are single. Itâs not a new scandal, but what Madeleine and (P/N) want would be one waiting to happen. She made a deal with him that I could be his mistress as long as she gets to be queen. Thatâs a scandal waiting to be exposed...but you and me? Thatâs not a scandal.â
âMaybe not, but the press can just as easily say Iâm a bad friend for ending up with one of the popular suitors. Do you really want that?â I asked. If she was okay with it, I would do it.Â
âWhy donât we just talk to (P/N) about it and take it from there. He could help us in the event of that happening. Even if he doesnât, if he knows about us before the press can say anything, maybe dealing with the press wonât be so bad. I donât care what it takes to be with you, I will do whatever I have to.â She said, determination in her eyes. Then a thought occurred to me.Â
âWhat kind of friend does this actually make me? Heâs done so much for me and how do I repay him? Be stealing the woman heâs in love with. By hating everything his life has consisted of because I donât belong as a commoner. I can handle the second one because he understands it and knows Iâm not hating on him, just the other nobles and their lives. But stealing the woman he loves? That could ruin him.â I whispered softly, starting to rethink things.Â
âDrake, look at me.â She demanded and waited until I was looking right in her eyes. âThat doesnât make you a bad friend. If youâre so worried then just let me talk to him and let him down as easily as possible. Would you rather me talk to him and tell him asap, or wait until my name is cleared and I choose you anyway for him to find out I donât want to be with him?â She asked. She had a good point.Â
âWhy not just warn him? What if you really donât want me? What if you decide you want to be with him instead. He can give you every single thing you want no matter what it is.â I said. IT could be possible she could change her mind.Â
âDrake, if youâre worried about being a bad friend because of this, youâre not. This doesnât make you a bad friend.â She said sincerely.Â
âThen what the hell does it make me, (MC/LN)?!â I asked with more force than I meant to. She didnât even flinch. She just looked at me with a stoic look and a glint of something I couldnât name in her eyes. When she spoke it was in a matter-of-fact tone of voice.
âHuman. It makes you a human who will finally get what he deserves and wants for once in his goddamn life. Donât think otherwise. You need to do things for you. You donât always have to walk on eggshells. And I donât give a fuck if he is the one who helped your family stay sheltered and fed while growing up. I donât fucking care what heâs done for you or what he could give me! Itâs time for you to step up and do shit for you and stop walking on eggshells! If you really want me, you can have me! Nothing will change how I feel about you!â
Her forcefulness awoke something inside me. Without thinking, I grabbed her and pinned her forcefully against the barn. A splash of fear found its way into her eyes, but it quickly dissipated as she looked into my eyes once more.Â
âTake what I want, huh?â I asked with a raised eyebrow, surprised by my own actions but trying not to show it. She stared at my lips and licked her own before looking into my eyes again.Â
âThatâs exactly what Iâm telling you.â She whispered. âTake what you want.â Slowly, her hands trailed down and found the button of my jeans. Almost instantly, I grabbed her wrists and held them above her head. It was definitely time for me to do something for myself, so thatâs exactly what I did. I wasnât holding back at all and she seemed to enjoy it.Â
After a little while we both dressed once more and started our walk back to the palace. She smiled over at me as we walked hand-in-hand. âIâm lucky Maxwell had me be his workout partner today so I have a good reason to be sore tomorrow.â She joked.Â
âYouâre the one who told me to take what I want. I just so happened to want you.â I said and could feel my cheeks warm up. Even after having sex with her, I still had trouble easily admitting feelings without my body heating up in embarrassment.Â
âBut did you have to be so rough?â She asked softly, I stopped walking and looked at her.Â
âYou could have stopped me.â I said, quickly feeling guilty. She turned and softly kissed my lips. It was a very soft yet passionate kiss.Â
âDrake, that was the best moment of my life thus far. Not to mention that it was the best sex Iâve had thus far. Please, donât overthink it. Please.â She spoke with a big smile that made me start to feel better about what we just did.Â
âThe suns coming up. What are you going to tell Maxwell?â I asked curiously. Maxwell was always there to wake her up bright and early in the morning.Â
âIâll tell him I couldnât sleep last night and went for a walk. Itâs not that much of a lie. I really couldnât sleep and I first checked your room, but you werenât there so I went on a search for you of course. Iâll also tell him that if he can do it, I need some time alone with (P/N).â She explained. I nodded my head in understanding.Â
âSo youâre really going to do it? This really wasnât a dream or a one time thing?â I asked as a mischievous smile crept onto his lips.Â
âSo youâre now admitting youâve had dirty dreams about me.â She smirked with a raised eyebrow and my cheeks heated up once more. âDrake, that was definitely NOT a one time thing. At least I really hope you wonât make it a one time thing. Again, thatâs the best sex Iâve EVER had! Itâd be a shame if we didnât repeat it.â She winked after speaking. âI meant what I said about wanting to be with you.âÂ
âDoes this mean I could maybe call you my girlfriend now?â I asked softly. She stopped walking and wrapped her arms around me in a tight hug while she laughed.Â
âAnd here I thought youâd be the one to want to wait! I would really like that, but maybe hold off on saying it around anyone until I talk to (P/N).â She said and I nodded. She was right, I have been the one especially taking (P/N)âs emotions into account. I of course would wait until things were okay to say it out loud. It even sounded odd in my mind. (MC) (MC/LN) is my girlfriend and I really couldnât be happier.

Familiar Taste of Poison
The Royal Romance One-Shot
Familiar Taste of Poison
Story based off of The Royal Romance Book 1. DrakeXMC. To the lyrics of Familiar Taste of Poison by Halestorm. I wrote this before the first book ended and just havent had the time to type it up until now.Â
Word Count: 2330
MC/LN=My Characters Last Name
PN=Princeâs Name
*Drakeâs POV*
Drink the wine, my darling, you said, take your time, consume all of it, but the roses were only to drain my inspiration. The promises were spoiled before they left your lips and....
He loved MC, but his best friend loves her too. She was here for his best friend. All the suitors were. Why did he have to fall for her of all people? The answer was simple. They were both commoners, not royalty. She had a beautiful personality and was all around beautiful in general. He couldnât see why she would compete for royalty. He would never do that, but he also grew up around it and knew exactly how it was.Â
The taste of whiskey was constantly on his tongue. He called his little moments with MC roses. That was only because he always thought roses were one of the most beautiful flowers heâs seen. So his beautiful little moments he loved with MC were called roses.Â
With her he had so much more inspiration to somewhat try and be happy. He felt like he should actually go out and do things. Of course now he had to try and brush it off that he was just bored and there was nothing better to do. He really just wanted to be around MC. Part of him wished he could tell her just how he felt, but that wasnât fair to PN. She was here for him and he was likely going to choose her. There was no use in telling her he had feelings for her.
She always promised to keep him involved in things because he and the Prince were best friends and she considered him a good friend. He knew that could never be true. It was hard enough to find time to hangout with the Prince himself while he was a prince. Drake knew it would eventually be almost impossible when the Prince and MC were King and Queen.Â
I tell myself that youâre no good for me. I wish you well, but desire never leaves. I could fight this till the end, but maybe I donât want to win.
He downed his glass of whiskey as he watched MC and the Prince dancing the night away at some formal party or whatever was going on right now. He didnât care. All he cared about was seeing MC and his best friend happy. Also that he had whiskey to drink. âSheâs not good for me. What am I thinking? Actually, Iâm not good for her.â He said to himself. It was a daily fight with himself. He wanted her, but he couldnât have her; so he had to convince himself that they werenât good for each other. It never worked. Not even reminding himself that his best friend could give her anything she wanted, but he himself couldnât do that as a commoner and thatâs all heâd ever be.Â
He would always desire being with her. He would always desire holding her in his arms. He would always desire every little thing he could about her. He could fight against the feelings he had for her. He knew he could. However, there was something about her that made him not want to fight it.
I donât want to be saved. I donât want to be sober. I want you in my mind, in my dreams behind these eyes, and I wonât wake up, no not this time.Â
He knew he was in too deep now. He was too far gone in love with her to turn around and leave it. Nothing could save him from the crippling pain of loving someone he couldnât have; of loving the same girl as his best friend; of loving the girl who loved his best friend.Â
Part of him never wanted to be sober again. He hardly ever was before, but now he wanted to just permanently be drunk until he died or recovered from this all. Only then could he be carefree and feel comfortably numb. He couldnât keep her off his mind at any point in time. He never wanted to wake up when all his dreams featured her beautiful face.Â
He snapped himself out of those thoughts. He couldnât be thinking about this. He needed to get away. He couldnât stay here with how he felt for MC. He had to go. Whether it would be the hardest thing he does or not, he needed to leave. Stay away for a bit at the very least.Â
âHey, Drake.â A familiar voice said, pulling him from his thoughts completely. Only this voice sounded sad or drained now. He turned and saw her in all her beauty.Â
âMC/LN.â He said simply. Then he could see how not okay she was. She literally looked emotionally and possibly mentally drained. âAre you okay?â he asked softly. With a sigh, she sat down next to him.Â
âDo you ever dream of just running away without telling anyone?â She asked softly. He could barely hear her over the music playing in the room.Â
âHonestly? Yeah.â He admitted kind of quietly. He wouldnât say he was dreaming of that just now. Nobody could know. If he were to tell anyone it would be PN.
âWould you ever run away with me?â She asked, looking right into his eyes. His heartbeat sped up. Was she really asking this?
âAre you serious?â He asked cautiously.Â
âYes.â She nodded.Â
âWhat about PN?âÂ
âEven though he wants to choose me, I doubt Iâll end up with him. Madeline and Olivia have a better chance as the courtâs choice.âÂ
âWhy do you think that?â
âTheyâre royals and actually know what theyâre doing. Iâm just some waitress from New York.â
âYouâre not just some waitress.â
âWhat are you saying, Drake.âÂ
âPN is head over heels in love with you.âÂ
âWhich is why I need to leave, Drake. He needs to choose someone who knows what to do. He canât choose me and make them accept me. He needs to choose Olivia or Madeline. Olivia is probably the better choice of those two. She loves him even if he has no feelings for her.â
âSo you just want to leave? The choice is being revealed tomorrow then the wedding will follow soon after. Are you sure you want to leave?â
âYes...I want to leave tomorrow morning.âÂ
âTomorrow morning?â Drake asked, shocked. He had to make sure this was real and not just another dream.Â
âYes. Will you please come with me?â She asked softly. She was practically begging him. He knew he should say no, but he couldnât help himself.Â
âIf you wish.â He said nonchalantly.Â
I breathe you in again just to feel you, underneath my skin, holding on to the sweet escape is always laced with a familiar taste of poison.
She pulled him close into a hug. He breathed in her sweet scent and smiled a barely visible smile. With that they separated once more. âWe should pack tonight.â She said, life coming back into her voice.Â
âOkay.â He said. He couldnât express the happiness and relief that he felt knowing she wanted to leave. Not only did she want to leave, but she wanted to leave with him. He left the party and began to pack what he really needed. When he was done, he went to sleep. They will be leaving tomorrow morning.Â
The next morning he woke up and went to find MC. Before he could leave his room, she came hopping in. She hugged him excitedly. âI have the best news!âÂ
âWhat is it?â He asked, fearing their little trip was no longer happening.Â
ââPN told me that he is going to choose me! I guess everyone likes me and wants me to be queen! Iâm getting married soon!â She exclaimed. With those words he felt all of his hope crash down. Why would he have even thought this would actually happen?Â
âThatâs nice.â He said. âI guess we did all that packing for nothing. You should probably get out of here before people start talking.â Drake said, practically pushing the girl out of his room. He waited a few moments before walking out of his room and going straight to the stables.Â
He checked and made sure no one was around before letting out his anger and frustration. He punched the barn doors various times until blood dripped from his knuckles. Only then did he stop and sit against a wall. He didnât know how long he was sitting there. He also hadnât noticed when PN came up to him.Â
âDrake, what happened?â The Prince asked, concerned.Â
âI canât stay here anymore, PN. I need to get out.â The commoner said.Â
âAre you okay?â The Prince asked, showing concern once more.Â
âDoes it look like Iâm fucking okay?!â Drake asked, raising his voice. It only took a second for him to realize what he had said and the way he had said it. âIâm sorry...I just canât do this anymore. I canât be here anymore. I need to get out. My mom and Savannah were right to get out.â
âLet me help you.â PN suggested softly.Â
âWhy?â
âBecause youâre my friend and youâve always been there for me. What can I do?â
âYou can get me a plane ticket. Anywhere but here. I need to get out and not come back. I donât want anyone knowing where Iâm going.â
The Prince looked at his friend astonished. Drake was serious this time. With the dried blood on his hands and a determined look on his face, the Prince knew he was serious.Â
Of course. Iâll get you anywhere you want to go.â The Prince said. âGet your hands looked at. Iâll get you the money soon. Then you can go. I would appreciate it if you could just wait until after my wedding. I want you to be my best man.â
âI donât know if I should stay.â Drake admitted softly.Â
âIâll get you the money by tonight to go anywhere and start a life, but please try and stay until my wedding.â Drake nodded before PN kept going. âGo get your hands cleaned and looked at.â The Prince said, a worried look on his face.Â
âDonât worry about me. You have enough to deal with.â Drake said gruffly. With that he watched his friend walk away before walking back to his room and washed his hands free of blood. Only then did he walk to the live-in doctorâs room.Â
That night he heard a knock on his door. Not only a knock, but his and the Princeâs secret one. They had made it when they were younger so they would know who was knocking. He got up and carefully opened the door with his wrapped up hands.Â
âHow bad is it?â The Prince asked, looking at Drakeâs hands.Â
âBroke all my knuckles.â Drake said with a shrug as if it wasnât a big thing.Â
âWhat the hell, man?â
âI was mad and frustrated.âÂ
âI guess so, but that much damage?â
âHeh. It could have been much worse.âÂ
âYou really arenât okay right now, are you?âÂ
âLike I said, I need to get out.â
âIâm sorry I havenât been able to be much of an actual friend to you lately.âÂ
âYouâre busy.âÂ
âThat doesnât mean anything. How am I supposed to be here in a country where I canât even be there for my best friend?âÂ
âThe country needs you more.âÂ
The Prince stared at his friend in shock.Â
âAre you saying you donât need me?âÂ
âIâm saying I donât need you to baby me. Iâm fine.â
âYeah, clearly.â
âIf youâre gonna be a dick about it, donât help me. Iâll find a way to get out on my own.â Drake said, crossing his arms over his chest.Â
âYou know thatâs not how Iâm meaning to be.â PN said with a sigh. âLook, hereâs the money I promised. Iâm not babying you, I just want to make sure youâre okay.â He handed Drake the money and walked out.Â
3 months had passed. MC and PN were now the King and Queen of Cordonia, but now was the time for the wedding. Drake had stayed for it even though he didnât want to. He stayed to give PN his one wish of having Drake as his best man. That didnât stop the commoner from staying hidden most of that 3 months. He didnât want to be around MC unless he had to.Â
The only time he spent with her was at the wedding where everyone was. Even then he kept the conversation short. After the wedding, PN walked up to drake.Â
âI just wanted to say thanks for waiting until my wedding. Are you still planning on leaving?â He asked. He had hoped Drake changed his mind. Drake hadnât.Â
âYeah, Iâm leaving now. Thanks for the help you and your family gave, but itâs time I be my own person for once.â Drake said.Â
âIs this because of MC?â His friend asked. His hands balled into fists as best they could.Â
âWhy would it be because of MC/LN?â He practically growled.Â
âI know you liked her, Drake.â PN whispered with a sigh. Drake let out a breath.Â
âThatâs putting it lightly.â Drake mumbled, looking down. âItâs more than just because of her, but itâs mostly that. Itâs why I donât want anyone knowing where Iâm going. And I really need to go now. I have a plane to catch.â Drake said, slinging a bag over his shoulder.Â
âOkay...I hope to see you again in the future. Youâre a good friend, Drake.â PN said, pulling the commoner into a hug.Â
âTake care.â Drake said with a nod before walking off. He could hear MC calling for him to stop, but he forced himself to walk faster. By the time he was far from his friendâs home, tears filled his eyes. âI hope theyâll be okay.â

GINASFS
GINASFS
The Royal Romance
Drake X MC
Summary: A oneshot based off the Fall Out Boy song GINASFS. This is based off of choosing the blonde and blue eyed Liam as the Prince in the first book and my MC that I kept named Riley but last name being Dixon, takes place during the second book. Itâs also very personal for me.
Pairing: Drake X MC
Word Count: 3842
TW: Suicidal thoughts/actions, depression, ED, self harm
________________________________________________________________
Iâve loved everything about you that hurts, so let me see your moves, let me see your moves lips pressed close to mine. True blue, but the Prince of any failing empire knows that everybody wants, everybody wants, to drive on through the night if itâs the drive back home.
For a while, she thought she loved him. She thought she wanted to be with him. Those were her only thoughts. She loved him and THAT'S why she was here. It didnât matter that someone dragged her name through the mud and framed her so she now had to clear her name. It didnât matter that she didnât get to see him or be around him alone much anymore. Hell, it didnât even matter she could forever be âthe other womanâ.Â
Nothing matteredâŚuntil it did. Until it hit her that thatâs not how she should live her life. Until it hit her that she should never have gone to Cordonia. She shouldâve stayed home in New York where she could easily visit her family or have them visit her. She had gotten some bad news from back home recently, but hadnât told anyone. She just wished she had the ability to get in a car and just drive home, but thatâs not easy especially when you arenât even on the same continent.Â
She used to love his blue eyes. They could stop her in her tracks so quickly. One look and sheâd freeze or melt depending on the situation. The first time she saw them they froze her. More often theyâve melted her. They made her feel happy, but tonight they just couldnât. She felt like they werenât any closer to finding out who set her and Tariq up that night when Drake had to come save her. No matter how hard she tried, everything just seemed to fail. She had to pretend to be fine so much the past few months. Especially here on the Engagement Tour.Â
She loved his kisses. They gave her purpose. They helped her feel wanted. They reminded her why she was here. However tonight that didnât happen. Every kiss after sneaking away to make sure she was okay didnât help. Instead she just felt empty. That's all she ever felt lately. Empty.Â
â
He had noticed the change in her as soon as it started when it seemed no one else did. Not Hanna, not Liam, not Maxwell, only him. He noticed how out of it and withdrawn she had become. How she stopped spending any possible moment given with Liam, instead sheâd ditch the royals and spend time with him, the commoner. He noticed how all of her smiles seemed forced or fake now. He could tell she was breaking. As soon as he tried to ask what was wrong, sheâd put her walls up just like him and tell him sheâs fine then either change the subject or walk away.Â
He watched once more as she slipped away unnoticed by the royals from the party. Slowly he snuck off and followed after her. âDixon, what are you doing out here?â She turned to him and forced a smile.Â
âI just need to get some fresh air. No worries.â With that she turned and walked back towards the doors. She had started to look a little more pale recently. He could faintly hear what sounded like her stomach growling.Â
âDo you wanna go get some real food with me? I saw a restaurant on the way here.â He explained and took a few more steps towards her.Â
âIâm not hungry.â She whispered and kept walking away.Â
âGod dammit, Riley!â He growled frustrated and ran a hand through his hair. She stopped and turned on him with a glare.Â
âWhat?â She asked angrily. He could see the fire in her eyes. That was at least a step up from faking happiness all the time.Â
âJust talk to me! Whatâs wrong?â He asked again for the hundredth time it felt like. The anger quickly faded and the fake smile came back.Â
âOh, Drake, nothingâs wrong. Iâm okay. I promise.â The lie slipped easily through her lips, but he knew better than to believe it especially after the anger she just showed.Â
âYou really think Iâm gonna buy that? Youâre not okay, you havenât BEEN okay, so stop putting up these walls and just talk to me about it.â He pleaded. She laughed dryly with little to no emotion.Â
âOh youâre one to talk, arenât you Mr. I-Will-Shut-Down-And-Push-You-Away-As-Soon-As-You-Ask-About-SomethingI-Donât-Want-To-Talk-About? Save it Drake. You donât care. Iâm âjust like themâ or have you forgotten? Iâm not âlike myselfâ anymore, remember? I donât âact like a commonerâ anymore, right? Get the fuck out of here with that âtalk about itâ shit because YOU never do so why should I? Plus Iâm now a part of the group of people you hate, a royal. I donât matter or have feelings anymore, right? Do me a favor Drake and just leave me the FUCK alone.âÂ
Her words sliced into him, but he knew he deserved it. She didnât deserve this. She didnât deserve anything he or the others had put her through. She didnât deserve to feel so alone, so worthless. She turned away from me and started walking away again, but he ran after her this time and grabbed her hand and stopped her. She always had a way with making him feel things whether he wanted to or not.Â
âRiley, you have feelings and you arenât like them. Your feelings matter. IâŚcareâŚsoâŚdeeply for you. Just please talk to me.â He whispered sincerely, struggling to admit his feelings. He wanted so badly to just pull her to him and kiss her and make all these feelings go away, but she was here for Liam. Her cold, hardened expression faltered for a second, but only a second.Â
âNo, youâre lying! I canât believe any of that! It canât be true.â She seethed and ripped her hand from his grasp.Â
âI promise you that Iâm not lying and itâs the truth.â He pleaded with her, his heart sinking as she still looked unconvinced.Â
âWhy would it be true? All I know is what Iâve seen and that's that you hate me.â She said as she turned and walked away. He didnât know what to do so he finally decided to just give in and admit exactly how he felt. So without repressing it he just let his mouth speak what he wouldnât even admit in his brain.Â
âBecause Iâm falling for you! I could never hate you! Iâve tried so goddamn hard and I just canât hate you, but I also canât believe youâd want me over Liam. Heâs the reason youâre here.â He called out to her, making her stop for a second. She stood there and he thought about catching up to her, but then she sprinted off. Her high heeled shoes clicked on the ground with each step. He forced a hand into his hair. âFuck.â He whispered to himself and walked the opposite way.Â
â
Iâve already given up on myself twice, but the third time is the charm, third time is the charm. Threw caution to the wind, but Iâve got a lousy arm, and Iâve traced your shadows on the wall, now I kiss them whenever Iâm down, whenever Iâm down, just kind of figured on not figuring myself out.
She ran to her room and knew exactly what she planned to do. She couldnât handle it anymore. She had to do something. As soon as she was in her room, she sat down and started writing a note to Maxwell who would undoubtedly be the first one to come to her room. She hadnât opened up to them about all the mistakes and bad decisions sheâs made in her life. She didnât want them to know about those things.Â
Throughout her life she managed to figure out how to get through this. She would love to sit down and figure out how she would get through what she was going through now, but that just didnât seem like it was gonna happen at all. As she wrote the note to her friends but specifically addressed to Maxwell.Â
â
He was on his way to the bar to get a drink, but something kept stopping him and telling him to go back and follow her. She wasnât okay and she shouldnât be alone. Finally, he just gave in to the feeling and ran towards her room. Thatâs where he thought she wouldâve gone since she never went back to whatever event was going on tonight. When he approached her door he could hear her talking but no other voice. He didnât know who to, but he assumed it was on the phone since he didnât hear another voice. He decided to listen in on her conversation, but could only make out bits and pieces of what she was saying. Her voice would waver between whispers and talking louder, so it was a little hard to hear through the door.Â
âI donâtâŚIâm sorryâŚIâve made up my mind. Iâm coming to be with youâŚSee you soon.â Was all He could make out before he heard her footsteps. He quickly moved his head away from the door then pretended he walked up and knocked. After a few moments, she opened the door. âWhat do you want, Drake?â She spoke monotone now, he wasnât used to not hearing any emotion in her voice.Â
âIâm worried about you, I donât want you alone. Maxwell said heâs hardly seen you eat this past week. Why donât we go get some food.â He begged her. Suddenly the fake smile was back as was a fake happiness in her voice when she spoke.Â
âDrake, Iâm okay. Iâm just really tired, but Iâm going back to the ball. Iâm not supposed to miss it. Maybe if Iâm lucky they still haven't noticed Iâm missing.â With that she pushed past him and walked away. He knew he had to follow her, but she couldn't see him. He followed from a distance. Unfortunately for him, she was short and he kept losing her despite himself being tall.Â
He watched her look around and finally duck into a hotel. He waited until she got into the elevator to walk up to it and see what floor she got off on, the top floor. His heart started to race and he sprinted up the stairs to the top floor just in time to see her go around a corner. He followed and saw it was another set of stairs.Â
I was born under a bad sign, but you saved my life that night on the roof of your hotel. âCross my heart and hope to die, splinter from the headboard in my eyeâ. Photo Booth kisses I remember so well.Â
The sign for that next set of stairs said they went up to the roof. His heartbeat sped up more as panic set in while he realized what she was doing there. She couldnât. He sprinted up the last stairs, his lungs burning but he pushed through he had to. He needed to be there in time. He stepped out into the night air and found her standing on the edge of the roof, looking down. She hadnât heard him coming. He ran up and wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her away from the edge. He lost his balance and fell onto his back with her on top of him.
âRiley, Iâm so sorryâŚI wish I had seen it sooner or acted sooner.â he whispered into her hair, fighting back tears. He felt terrible. She turned in his arms and buried her face into his chest as she started to sob. After a while, they both calmed down and started crying, just laying there with her in his arms. Finally they sat up, but she stayed in his arms. Slowly she looked into his eyes and spoke softly. She told him everything that happened. She explained why she wanted to take her life. She thanked him for saving her life. She kissed him on the lips and only then did it click for both of them just how deeply they fell for each other over the past few months of the Engagement Tour especially.Â
âLetâs get back and pack your things.â He whispered, standing to his feet and held his hand out to her.Â
âWhat do you mean?â She asked confused, but took his hand and stood to her feet anyway.Â
âWeâre packing you up and getting you home. Iâll even take you back myself if youâd like. Iâll get your name cleared and then we can see each other again.â He said with a determined look on his face. He had already made up his mind.Â
âBut Maxwell and BertrandâŚâ She whispered and looked down. He lifted her chin and looked into her eyes.Â
âThey can deal with it, your mental health and seeing your loved ones is what's needed right now and all that matters. You really need to be with your family and friends right now. Iâll get your name cleared and Iâll deal with the Beaumonts. Donât worry.â He whispered. She stared at him silently before pulling him into a kiss once more.Â
âThank you, Drake. For everything. Really.â She whispered back. Together they walked all the way back to her room on the train in silence. He helped her pack her things, but only stopped when Bertrand and Maxwell came into the room.Â
âWhat are you doing?â Maxwell asked sadly.Â
âKeep packing. Iâll handle this.â Drake said to her. She nodded and kept packing while Drake pushed the other two men out of the room. âSheâs going back home.âÂ
âImpossible! Itâs not happening! She must remain here to clear her name and marry Liam like she wants!â Bertrand said with a scowl. Drakeâs hand clenched into a fist and he took a deep breath.Â
âThatâs not what she wants anymore. She really needs to be back home right now.â Drake was trying his best not to be angry at all, but Bertrand being Bertrand meant it was hard to avoid it.Â
âWhat do you mean she doesnât want to marry him anymore?â Bertrand asked, shock clear on his face.Â
âAnd why does she need to be home?â Maxwell asked, earning a scowl from his brother.Â
âYou guys wouldnât care the reason why for any of it. I know you guys, especially Bertrand. You arenât stopping her. Sheâs going home. Iâm taking her there then coming back to finish clearing her name myself.â Drake said sternly.Â
âOf course we care! Why wouldnât we?â Maxwell asked, suddenly very upset at what Drake said.Â
âSheâs never said anything to anyone about how she feels because she knew that nobody here would care enough. Donât start pretending like you do.â Drake practically growled. She was not staying here. Not right now. She could always come back if she wanted.Â
âI was going to kill myself tonight. Would you have understood that?â Her soft voice from behind Drake. Everyone turned to look at her. âCome into my room and Iâll explain.â She whispered. The guys complied and walked into her room. All of her things were packed now.Â
âWhy would you do that, Riley?â Maxwell asked, his voice filled with sadness. A deep rage built inside Drake and he wasnât totally sure why.Â
âYOU noticed she was barely eating and you did NOTHING about it! That shouldâve been your first CLEAR sign that something wasnât okay for her! You just brought her all the way here to marry someone she just met because your house is broke! Then you think she shouldnât go home when her mom killed herself 2 weeks ago! NOBODY thought to make sure she was fine! NOBODY cared! Itâs all about her marrying an engaged man! Well, that's over! Sheâs going home and Iâm taking her there!â Drake yelled at the brothers, standing protectively by Rileyâs side.Â
Take our jet.â Maxwell said right away with no hesitation.Â
âMaxwell!â Bertrand glared at his younger brother and Maxwell glared back.Â
âThat jet got her here and it can take her home.â Maxwell said defiantly. His features softened as he looked down. âBesides itâs my fault sheâs here. We need to help her one last time. Bertrand, she lost her mom. We needed each other when we lost mom and dad, she needs her family too.âÂ
âVery well, take the jet. Maxwell, go with Drake. Iâll handle things here till you get back.â Bertrand then left the room.Â
âIâm so sorry, Riley. I shouldâve done better about checking in on you. Iâll just grab some extra clothes and Iâll meet you out to get a cab to the airport. Iâll call for the jet now.â Maxwell then walked out of the room leaving Drake and Riley alone.Â
âIâm sorry for my outburst. I donât know what came over me.â He said to her softly. She turned and placed another soft kiss on his lips.Â
âYou really care for me, that's what came over you.â She whispered. Â
Things arenât the same anymore, some nights it gets so bad that I almost pick up the phone. Trade Baby Blues for Wide-Eyed Browns, I sleep with your old shirts and walk through this house in your shoes. I know itâs strange. Itâs a strange way of saying that I know Iâm supposed to love you, Iâm supposed to love you.Â
It wasnât long before they were on the plane and headed to America, but not New York this time. This time they were going for Colorado. Riley had grown up in Colorado Springs. Drake and Maxwell had learned about that before leaving for America. She wanted Drake to stay for a couple days to meet some of her family and go on some hikes with amazing views. He agreed and told Maxwell heâd just buy a plane ticket back to wherever the Engagement Tour was when heâd be heading back.Â
âI just remembered something.â She said with a small smile.Â
âWhat?â Both guys asked in unison. Drake glared at Maxwell. She still had a shadow of sadness on her features, but for now she was doing better than she was hours earlier.Â
âBack in high school, my senior year, I took an auto shop class.â She was going to continue but already saw the shock on their faces. Neither of them had expected she would have been the type to really get dirty.Â
âWait, you took an auto shop class. So like, you worked on cars?â Drake asked, making her giggle.Â
âYes, I did! I didnât actually do much in that class, I mostly just watched.â She laughed.Â
âBut what did you remember?â Drake asked, putting her back on track with where her mind was.Â
âOh, right! Well, one time that teacher told us a story on how he convinced this bank in town to give Native kids college scholarships every year!â With that she went on with this crazy story. Drake almost couldnât believe it and Maxwell thought that was awesome. After some time they all fell asleep. Drake woke up first and couldn't help but smile at Riley sleeping. She looked so at peace for the first time in a while. Suddenly, the peaceful look disappeared as tears started coating her cheeks. Drake quickly got up and pulled her into his lap.Â
âHey, wake up, itâs just a dream.â He said softly, rubbing her arm until she fully woke up. She wrapped her arms around his neck and cried into his chest. Slowly she calmed down and just sat in his lap emotionless.Â
âWhat if Iâm meant to be just like her making all the same choices.â She whispered so quietly Drake almost didnât hear her.Â
âDonât say that.â He said quickly. âWe do not have to follow in our parents footsteps and be like them. You arenât doomed to end your life like she did. Choose for yourself. Make your own decisions.â
âI almost did about a month before I met you all. I was planning on doing it when I knew no one would be able to save me.â She admitted in a whisper.Â
âWhy?âÂ
âI was in a really bad situation. Iâve struggled with anxiety and depression for years, since Middle School at least. I struggled with a self harm addiction that Iâm still struggling with. My roommate treated me like absolute shit. I was belittled every day for no reason. That made me feel worthless, you know.âÂ
âYeahâŚI do know.âÂ
âWell it started to become an everyday thing. I was used to suicidal thoughts and shit, but the thought of actually putting action to it scared me. I thought about going âdown the roadâ while my roommate was at work so no one would be around to save me for hours and I would be able to just slip away into that darkness.â
âWhat changed? Youâre still here so something changed.âÂ
âI moved to New York. I got myself out of the situation when I realized it wasnât gonna change.âÂ
We sat and talked aimlessly until the jet landed in Colorado Springs. They said goodbye to Maxwell and got in a car for the short drive to her dad's house. He stayed with her for 3 days. They grew closer. She took him on many hikes showing him scenic sites around. She admitted she loved him and wanted him. He didnât want to leave her, but he had promised her as soon as her name was cleared he would be back.Â
â
The minute he was gone, she missed him. Days passed. Weeks. Even a few months before she got the official call. Her name was finally cleared. Drake was coming back to see her and spend more time in her hometown before returning to Cordonia as Liam had a surprise for her. She was so happy. She couldnât wait to see him again. Their relationship had grown while they could only text, call, and video chat. They did more things than she had ever or thought to do with anyone else. He made her feel comfortable.Â
Some days she was super lovey dovey with him. Other days she was emotionless. She always felt bad during the lows. Sheâd get jealous over little things. Little things would set her off. However, they both knew she would always apologize because she never meant it. He had assured her many times that he knew she was still getting through losing her mom. Slowly but surely, she was becoming happy again. She drove to the airport to pick him up. Her excitement had her over anticipating how much time she needed. She waited anxiously for him to come find her. When he did, she ran and jumped into his arms. She didnât waste any time before kissing him.Â
âI missed you too.â He said through a laugh. She giggled and stepped away from him.Â
âSorry, Iâm just excited to see you.âÂ

Listen, do you hear my heartbeat thump over the monitors? You pretend to close your eyes, donât breathe in. Pieces of candy and leaks of light paint the floor âround me, then without hesitatingâŚ
We ran through the building, dodging bullets. Lundgrenâs crew was after us, paid off by Rourke. I looked over towards Jake who was running beside me. Everyone else in our group had disappeared while we all were running from these hired guns, splitting up hoping to have more of a chance for survival. I could feel my lungs closing up, losing breath from sprinting for so long.Â
Jake was scared. I could see it on his face. I didnât need to see his eyes to tell just how scared he was. Neither of us wanted to lose the other let alone anyone in our group. Involuntarily I started to slow down. It was then that my legs gave out and I smacked down to the floor on my face.Â
âMC! Câmon Princess, we gotta keep going!âÂ
âIâŚI canât get up, Jake!â I exclaimed to him in fear. His eyes clouded with something I couldnât read as more gunshots went off towards us. He ducked out of the way. I could feel myself slowly slipping away, still unable to take in much breath. âJust get out of here, Jake! Save yourself! Please!â I pleaded before everything went black.Â
I awoke to the faint sound of a heart monitor, but didnât dare show I was awake. I listened for any sign of anyone. I would be damned if I woke up and saw Rourke or Lundgrenâs faces. When I was sure I heard no one, I slowly blinked open my eyes to bright white lights. My eyes slowly adjusted to the light and landed on a figure sleeping sitting up in a chair with their arms crossed over their chest. Jake!
âJake?â I asked, my voice cracking as if I hadnât used it in a long time. He shifted in his sleep and opened his eyes. His beautiful blue eyes met mine and he gasped. Quickly he stood up and took my hand in his.Â
âPrincess, youâre awake.â He said, relief clear in his voice. I looked around again, fully recognizing it as a hospital. A real hospital.
âJake, where are we?â I was confused. Did Jake make a deal with Lundgren or Rourke for me to be safe and us to get off that island? âDonât tell me you made a deal with those fuckers.â Now he looked really confused.Â
âPrincess, what are you talking about?â He looked genuinely confused. âMaybe I should get the doctor. You donât recognize this place?â I looked around once more and shook my head.Â
âNo, I donât. Where are we, Joker.âÂ
âWeâre in Shreveport.â
âWaitâŚweâre back in the states? I thought you had a huge bounty and arenât allowed here.âÂ
âPrincess, that was a LONG time ago. Iâm gonna go get the doctor, something is wrong with your memory.âÂ
Without waiting for a response he walked out of the room. I could faintly hear his voice as well as another.Â
âShe only seems to remember around the time we met. I donât know what is going on with her memory, but she just woke up.â I could hear the concern from where I laid.Â
âShe likely was in a deep coma dream she believed to be a reality. She has been in this coma for 4 months. It should go away after some time and sheâll remember the reality of her life after that. Why donât you introduce her to Mike?â Was suggested to him by who I figured was my doctor. I had been in a coma for 4 months?
âWhat if she doesnât remember him? That would crush him. He loves her.â Jake explained softly.Â
âThen explain to her exactly who he is. Thatâs all you can do for her right now.â The doctor explained.Â
âI just really donât want him to be hurt if she doesnât remember him. Imagine your mom forgetting who you are.â Jake said sadly. That's when it hit me what they were talking about. Jake and I have a son? A son we named Mike? Mike after Jakeâs best friend who died which is the reason he wasnât allowed on US soil.Â
âWhat the fuck is going on?â I whispered to myself. My heartbeat sped up. I ripped everything off of me and any needles out of me then stood up. The machines started going crazy. My legs were weak.Â
âMrs. McKenzie, you need to calm down and get back in bed.â The doctor urged calmly, walking into the room and looking at me.Â
âNo! Not until someone explains to me whatâs going on!â I yelled.Â
âPrincess, please.â Jake begged with tears in his eyes.Â
âNoâŚI canât.â I whispered then felt a pinch in the back of my neck. They had enough time to get me back to the hospital bed before everything went black once more.Â
Creeping through these labyrinths I find another dead end to the weekend, but is this real life? Paper hearts turned ash begin to fly over our heads I begin screaming while the exit signs read âHeavenâs Waitingâ.Â
âCâmon Princess, come back to me. MC please. I canât fuckinâ lose you too. Not you.â Was the pleading voice I awoke to. I was back on La Huerta. The jungle surrounding us. I noticed blood on his hands. His pleas stopped as he stared into my eyes. âPrincess?â he asked. Now I noticed the tears hidden in his eyes.Â
âJakeâŚIâŚwhatâs going on?â I asked softly, so confused with everything.Â
âYou passed out while we were being chased. I had to get you out of there.â He whispered. âAre you feeling okay right now?âÂ
âNot really.â I whispered. I couldnât stop thinking about how real it felt to be in that hospital bed. What is my reality? This or the hospital?Â
âDo you think you can walk? I think weâre safe for now. I haven't heard any gunshots or seen anyone in a while.â He said looking around once more.Â
âYeah, I can walk.â I said softly and stood up. My legs shook, but I held steady. He watched me cautiously. He carefully took my hand in his and led me away from where we were. Every step was careful and light. My mind raced with these two realities I was faced with. âJake.â I whispered and stopped mosing which made him stop too. He looked at me concerned and confused.Â
âWhatâs wrong Princess?â He asked. I looked down, not wanting to keep looking into his eyes. I saw his hand move as he went to cup my face. One of his fingers snaked under my chin and lifted my head so we were looking into each other's eyes. His face was ridden with concern. âMC, please talk to me.âÂ
âIf you had a son and you got to name him yourself, what would you name him?â I asked carefully.Â
âIs now really the time?â He asked, running a frustrated hand through her hair.Â
âJust answer the questionâŚplease.â I begged, tears forming in my eyes. If he says Mike I donât know what Iâll do. He seemed to think for a moment before answering.Â
âIâd like to name a son after Mike. Before you he was one of the only people I ever really got close with. Before he died, we had joked that heâd name his first so Jacob and Iâd name mine Mike. We had plans for girls, but I canât remember those now.â He chuckled then paused as a dark expression fell on his face.Â
âWhatâs wrong Joker?â I asked, concerned. He shook it off and forced a smile.Â
âNothing, Princess. Letâs keep going.â He said and started walking again. This time he didnât take my hand. He was distancing himself. After walking for some time, we found the rest of our group once more in the Vaanti Village. There Vaaryn was getting patched up and Diego looked scared. I waited until no one would notice before slipping away from everyone. I went outside the village and sat on a cliff face, looking out at the ocean. It wasnât long before someone came and sat down next to me. I didnât have to look to know who it was.Â
And I said âHey, what's on your mind?â I think about my life without you and I start to cry. And I said âHey, itâs alright. Weâll make it, I love you, and Iâll never leave your side. Whoa oh
âHey, what's on your mind?â His smooth voice, his southern accent making me feel giddy inside.Â
âWhat if we met some other way? Like what if you had fought to prove your innocence and we met somewhere in the states instead of here? Do you think we still wouldâve gotten together?â I asked as I felt tears sliding down my cheeks. I couldnât handle the thought of not having him in my life.Â
âWhatâs bringing all these questions about?â He asked softly, caressing my cheek.Â
âWhile I was out, I had this dream that we had a son named Mike and we lived in your hometown back in the US. We were never on this island or maybe we were and had actually made it back home. I donât know! I donât know what was going on! I just know I was in a hospital and apparently had been in a coma for at least 4 months.â The tears kept coming and I couldnât stop them no matter how hard I tried. Jake leaned forward and softly kissed my lips.Â
âHey, itâs alright. Weâll make it home one day, MC.â He whispered sincerely.Â
âI love you Jacob McKenzie.â I whispered through my tears. âIâll never leave your side as long as Iâm alive.â His normal smirk started to paint his lips.Â
âYou literally just left my side, Princess. I had to come find you.â He said with a light chuckle behind his words. I gave him a soft playful shove and let out a laugh.Â
âGeeze Jake and here I thought you wouldâve been smart enough to know what I meant.â I teased him. He tried to pretend to be hurt, but couldnât stop the smile from taking over his lips.Â
You took my hand and then we both started running, both started running, thereâs no place to go. Another bullet and we both started running, both started running too. Whoa oh whoa oh. Save yourself, donât ever look back. Whoa oh. Nowhere to go and so we both spin around in circles. Oh, letâs go!
âAre you coming to bed, Princess?â Jake asked as I continued to sit outside.Â
âYeah, Iâm coming.â With that I stood up and followed Jake to our room. It didnât take long for me to fall asleep which wasnât surprising after all the running we did today. It didnât feel like long before I opened my eyes once more. However, when I opened my eyes I was back in the hospital. âFuck, I have to get out of here. This canât be real!â I whispered to myself and looked around. I didnât see anyone so I carefully pulled the IV out of my arm and took the EKG stickers off of me. I got up and snuck around. I almost made it to the stairs door in the hallway when a voice stopped me.Â
âI told them you wouldnât do this again. I guess I was wrong about that. Iâm the only reason you werenât confined to the bed, strapped down. You shouldnât be up.â Came Jakeâs voice. I stopped and turned to him.Â
âTrust me, Jake, we need to get out of here. This doesnât feel real.â I said quickly but quietly and grabbed his hand, pulling towards the stairs but he wouldnât move.Â
âNo. Not until you tell me why we have to goâŚwhy youâre so stuck on leaving.â He whispered, a sadness in his eyes.Â
âFine, but not here and not back in that room. Somewhere they wonât see us easily.â I whispered then led him to a nearby janitor's closet. âWhat do you remember about La Huerta?âÂ
âWhatâs that got to do with this?â Jake asked, confused.Â
âPlease just answer the question for me.â I begged. I needed to know what had happened in this reality or dream, whatever it was.Â
âI used to fly entitled people there before Rourke died and his son took over, destroying all of the business places his dad had built. That was all over the news a couple years ago. Right around the time we met.â Jake explained.Â
âAleister took over?â I asked, making him look at me confused.Â
âYeah, I guessâŚyou know him? His name was never mentioned, I figured he paid off the press to not say his first name. I didnât even think Rourke would have a kid.â Jake explained. The room around us was distorted a bit. Something was wrong.Â
âJake, you know him too. You took me and a bunch of kids I went to school with there. We got stuck there thanks to Rourke. Joker, wake up. This life isnt real yet. We donât have a son yet.â I said in a pleading tone. The room was distorted more. He needed to see this wasnât real life.Â
âWhat the hell are you talking about, Princess?â He asked and ran a confused hand through his hair.Â
âListen to me, Jake. This isnât real. Somethingâs wrong and you need to wake up and see what I see!â As I spoke the room began to distort again. What was once a janitor's closet in a hospital now looked like a weapon storage. I wondered if Jake could see it too. âJake, please just believe me. Look around you, this isnât a janitorâs closet! Please wake up!â
âAleister. Aleister. Aleister. Aleister. Isnât heâŚâ Jake trailed off, rubbing his hand on his forehead as if he now had a headache.Â
âYes! Isnât he what? Keep pushing!â I urged him as he rubbed his eyes.Â
âIsnât heâŚwith thatâŚone girlâŚBrain TrustâŚuhâŚâ Jake was struggling to find the right words. After a moment he looked around before really meeting my eyes. As soon as our eyes met, he pulled me into a tight hug. âOh, Princess. I thought I lost you.â He whispered. âThey shot your leg with some kind of tranq, I tried to carry you off but I just couldnât make it. Vaaryn and Diego found us and he pulled me away from you. I was so mad.âÂ
âSo you remember now?â I asked softly. Slowly he pulled away and nodded.Â
âYes, weâre still on La Huerta Island. We gotta go. We have to get out of here.â He whispered urgently. Then he looked around once more as a small smirk played on his lips. âYou chose the right room. Grab something, a pistol might be best, and letâs go. We have to find everyone else. I was the only one who they were able to capture. You know I canât leave you behind. They tried to reason with me that weâd save you, but you know me.âÂ
âJake, what is this place?â I asked, I had to know what happened.Â
âA small medical facility made by Rourke. Lundgrenâs men brought us here when they captured us. I promised not to kill everyone as long as you stayed safe.â He said, his voice filled with regret. âThey trapped me in some hallucination where we were in Shreveport and had a son.âÂ
âThey probably knew I would figure it out. I had two different hallucinations. I couldnât tell which was real. I guess neither really was.â I whispered and grabbed a couple pistols from the room while Jake grabbed some pistols and what looked to be an AR. âLetâs get out of here.â We started sneaking around the building quietly. It wasnât until we got out of the building that we were spotted.Â
âShit, go, go, go! Iâm right behind you!â Jake commanded. I grabbed his hand before taking off running. He held a pistol in his free hand firing back at the people chasing us. We ran as fast as we could. Jake eventually took the lead. Bullets flew near us and we both shot back when we could.Â
Suddenly I didnât see a tree root sticking out so far and tripped over it, letting Jakeâs hand go. When he realized I wasnât behind him he took cover behind a tree and looked back at me. He looked like he was gonna come back, but Lundgrenâs people were gaining on me. âGo! Donât look back and just go! Iâll find you!â I yelled to him as I forced myself to my feet. He hesitated before nodding and running off. As quick as I could, I forced my feet to move as fast as I could in the opposite direction. We will survive this. I will find him. We will have a life together. We will get that fake reality we were shown. We will.

To be fair, I didn't know that medical marijuana was good for or treated ADD either haha. I didn't know for sure what you could have to get a medical card and use marijuana. That's why I made sure and looked it up. The minute I saw ADD and Anxiety, I knew I wanted to make this with one of the two, I just decided with ADD. And I can definitely see Will as someone who smokes too. Not like an all the time thing, but like an every now and then thing.
Did They Know?
Part of âTazâs Crack Fic Challengeâ by @ilikepipecleanerswitheyes. I got the prompt âSmoking a joint with Willâ. I chose it mainly because I have smoked weed (never a joint though, not yet at least haha) and I also have ADD. To write this, I personally looked up what you could treat with medicinal marijuana and saw ADD was one of the things on that list. Then, because I wanted the main character to be in the BAU and on the team, so I looked up if someone could work for the FBI and use medical marijuana. Research worked out. Hope you enjoy J
Prompt: Smoking a joint with Will
Word Count: 803 Words
____________________________________
Not many people could say that they work for the FBI while using Medical Marijuana. She had been smoking it for years illegally, but when she found out she could get a medical card for her ADD, she did it right away. She had fought with the Bureau for months before she finally convinced them to let her join the BAU.
She was the top of her class. She had the highest scores. There was no reason besides her medical card that would make them not allow her in the BAU. After seeing her work case after case after case flawlessly, they saw how much someone with a medical card could do for them. It was because of her and realizing that a lot of skilled hackers are âstonersâ, they decided to allow people to apply and consider them even though they smoked marijuana.
The only people on her team who knew that she smoked for medicinal purposes were Rossi, Hotch, Garcia, and Reid. Reid only knew because he caught her one time on a case in Colorado walking into a medicinal dispensary, so she had to explain herself. Garcia knew because she had worriedly looked into the new young girl joining the team. Of course the first thing she had to do was explain it was for medicinal purposes so she could slow down and really focus on things. She also reassured Garcia that she wouldnât use it if she didnât need to. Hotch knew because he was the team leader. Rossi just somehow knew and asked her about it, she had known better than to lie.
Tonight they were celebrating at Rossiâs for Reidâs birthday. It was coming up around the time that she would usually smoke to be able to focus again. She snuck off and went to one of Rossiâs back balconyâs where no one would see her. She didnât want any of her colleagues thinking different of her because one little thing that helps her slow down and concentrate.
She pulled out her little bottle with the weed in it and pulled out her pipe. She packed a bowl and took two hits from it. After that, the door to the balcony opened. She turned to fin Will.
âI thought I smelled that.â He said slowly with a light chuckle. âMind if I join you?â He asked, pulling out rolling papers.
âSure, I can always get more anyway.â She said chuckling. âBut please donât tell anyone else that I do this. Itâs medicinally, but it might still make the others think differently of me. I donât want that.â As the last word left her mouth she began to slow down once more. This was the feeling she loved. Things felt more normal when they were slower and not going so fast due to her ADD.
She handed Will the little bottle with what was left of weed. He took some out and rolled it into a perfect joint. âThanks for this.â He said lighting it up and inhaling deeply. âYou didnât want to just roll a joint so you didnât have to bring a pipe?â He asked curiously.
âIâve never really liked joints. Iâve always really just enjoyed small pipes like this one. I donât really like using anything else.â She explained before taking another hit. With that her bowl was all smoked. As she was putting it away, Will looked at her quizzically.
âHow long have you been smoking?â
âLetâs see, Iâm 30 this year, so about 15 years.â She explained easily.
âDamn, you started young.â He said with a chuckle. âDid the FBI know when you started working for them?â
âYes. They didnât really want to hire me, but I proved to them not all people who smoke are lazy and donât do anything like the stereotype says. Iâm part of the reason theyâre allowing people who do smoke to apply and really be considered.â She explained.
âOh, damn. Do you mind if I ask why you smoke?â Will asked, his curiosity getting the best of him.
âWell, I have ADD and it helps me slow down and focus. I found out that I could get a medical card, so I did for my ADD.â
âGotcha.â
âI think Iâm gonna head back to the party before someone questions why Iâve been gone so long. At least the people who donât know.â She said with a light laugh and stood up.
âIf JJ doesnât know already, just know that sheâll know by morning. Sheâs gonna wanna know where I got the weed from.â Will explained.
âNo worries, youâre married. I get it.â She laughed. âPlease ask her to keep it between us thoughâŚI really donât want anyone else knowing unless they have to know.â
âNo problem.â He said. She walked inside and back out to the party.

It took me so damn long to write that part 3. The sad thing is it actually didn't take me long. What took so long was finding the motivation to type it up and I have like 3 more oneshots to type up and I told myself last Friday that I can't play any new Choices chapters till I have everything typed up and put on here. Clearly I'm failing. Maybe I'll have the motivation tomorrow on my day off.

Dear God
Part 3 to my 2 other One-shots Apocalyptic and Iâm Low on Gas and You Need a Jacket. This will be the final part. I will not do anymore for this because I feel this could be a good ending for it. I hope you enjoy. Itâs the lyrics of the song Dear God by Avenged Sevenfold.

âA lonely road crossed another cold state line. Miles away from those I love purpose hard to find. While I recall all the words you spoke to me canât help but wish that I was there back where Iâd love to be, oh yeah.â
He sat on the edge of the roof, his legs dangling over the edge, a bottle in his hand. His mind wandered to past places. He tried his hardest to forget her over the past 6 days that sheâd been gone. He was certain he would never see her again.
He thought back to his time in war. However, his mind seemed to distort the memories a bit. She was there. She couldnât have been there. The person who looked like her was her opposite, quiet and reserved. They didnât speak much to anyone unless they needed to. They just watched everything.
He tried to clear his head. He nursed the bottle a bit then laid down on the edge of the roof. He wouldnât fall off, he knew that for sure. He just wanted to be alone. If anyone saw him laying on the edge, they likely wouldnât talk to him in fear of him falling off the roof.
He was surprised there was still alcohol left after how much he drank as well as the college kids, His mind wandered to his family. He missed them so much. His mom was probably disappointed in him with whatever bullshit Lundgren told everybody about Mike and him. He would give anything to be back home and tell him mom what really happened.
His cheeks felt wet and thatâs when he noticed he was crying. His chest ached. He had lost too much. With a sigh, he sat up and put the bottle down.
Thereâs nothing here for me on this barren road. Thereâs no one here while the city sleeps, and all the shops are closed. Canât help but think of the times I had with you, pictures and some memories will have to help me through, oh yeah.
His mind wandered to summer nights when he was a teen. There was this girl who would be visiting Shreveport. At first they had just run into each other and he was his usual self that made people stay away from him. However, this girl just wouldnât leave him alone.
They were bad influences on each other. She taught him how to steal. He taught her how to hide and be stealthy. She had already âknownâ, but she didnât really know. He knew how to hide and not be found; he knew how to be stealthy. It was all those skills combined that helped him during war.
Something began to dawn on him. That girl had always gone by Wolf and she had similar features to MC. He remembered her so clearly. She was so beautiful. He didnât get to say goodbye to her before shipping off to boot camp.
Some search, never finding a way. Before long, they waste away. I found you, something told me to stay. I gave in, to selfish ways, and how I miss someone to hold when hope begins to fade.
After that young girl and Mike he never searched for anyone or anything again. There was no reason to. That was until he met MC. She was all he didnât know he was searching for. He heard the roof door open and close.
âGo away.â He grumbled, taking a swig of the bottle in his hand. He heard soft footsteps walking towards him still. Slowly he turned and stood up. He didnât look up to really look at the person until he was fully on his feet. He thought his eyes were playing tricks on him. Standing in front of him, in all her beauty, was MC. His mouth fell open slightly. âMCâŚâ He took a small step forward. His hand reached out towards her. âIs it really you?â
Carefully his hand caressed her cheek. The touch of her flesh made him gasp. She leaned into his caress. She reached out and pulled him into a hug. Relief filled him.
âItâs really you.â He whispered more to himself.
âItâs me.â She whispered, pulling away from the hug to look into his eyes. They were filled with relief, but also hurt. Hurt that she left. Hurt that he may never know what happened to her. She guessed the relief took over as he pulled her close once more, crashing their lips together.
âYouâre alive. Itâs really you. Youâre here and alive.â He whispered, his voice just filled with relief and happiness.
âDid you think I would never come back, J/N?â She asked softly, running her fingers through his hair.
âNo. I thought you were gone forever. I justâŚ.gave upâŚ.on everything.â He whispered, the hurt taking over now. âWhy did you leave me? We could have just gone together. I could protect you.â
âI can protect myself.â She whispered softly, not trying to make him feel bad.
âYeah youâve proven that enough times.â He grumbled. âLet me save you sometimes. We should be a-â He cut himself off, remembering they never actually agreed to being together. He didnât want to call them a team when they werenât even together. With a sigh, he pulled away from her, turning his back to her.
âWhat were you gonna say?â She asked, trying to reach out for him.
âNothing, it doesnât matter.â He grumbled, stepping further away from the woman he loved.
âYou were gonna say we make a good team, werenât you?â She asked.
âNo, MC.â She exclaimed trying to get him to talk to her. He turned on her with a cold glare and did what he didnât want to.
âYou know what, MC? Why donât you just leave me the hell alone? You seem to be real good at doing that!â he spat and walked to the roof door.
Dear god, the only thing I ask of you, is to hold her when Iâm not around, when Iâm much too far away. We all need the person who can be true to you. I left her when I found her, and now I wish Iâd stayed. âCause Iâm lonely and Iâm tired, Iâm missing you again, oh noâŚonce again.
He walked down to the beach, like he had done many nights while MC was gone. He went in to autopilot and did what had become a habit while MC was gone. He climbed to the highest point and just sat, staring out.
âGod, I know Iâve fucked up in my life and I probably shouldnât even cuss when praying, but donât punish these kids for shit that Iâve done. My mom would tell me to ask for forgiveness for everything and it would all work out eventually, but Iâve been asking for forgiveness since we got stuck on this island and nothing has changed. Please, let them go. Â Let MC have a long and happy life.â
He paused for a second.
âLet her be okay. Even if sheâs here now, I miss her so muchâŚâ He whispered, finishing his prayer off with an âamenâ. He sat there for a while until he finished his bottle and the sun was rising. He slowly stood up and went to his hotel room. When he woke up, he felt a body in his arms. He opened his eyes to find MC. Part of him was yelling at him to push her away and not let this happen because she would just leave again. He decided to go with his heart instead, pulling her as humanly close as possible.
âI love you, Jake. Iâm not ever leaving you again.â She whispered softly. He felt almost as if his heart stopped after hearing her say she loves him.
âI love you, too, MC.â He whispered, breathing in her sweet scent before falling asleep once more.

Iâm Low on Gas and You Need a Jacket
Pairing: Jake X Female MC
Fandom: Endless Summer
Summary: Continuation of my one shot Apocalyptic, takes place just after Jake reads MCâs note about her leaving. Goes with the lyrics for Iâm Low on Gas and You Need a Jacket by Pierce The Veil.
Word Count: 1, 944
ââââââââ-
Jakeâs hands curled into fists, crumbling up the note. He threw it across the room. Rage built up inside him. He grabbed a chair and threw it into the wall with such force that a few pieces splintered and broke off. He picked up various items in the room, throwing them and breaking them. Letting out a triumphant yell, he hurdled another chair into the big window, shattering it.
He kicked and punched holes into walls. The rage only continued to build inside him. He walked out of the room, slamming the door shut. She was NOT staying with those fuckers. Not if he could help it. He ran down the stairs into the lobby. Nobody had seen him yet. He walked out of the hotel only to hear a voice yelling behind him.
âFlyboy, we made a promise to her and we intend to keep it.â
âDonât fucking touch me, Steve Rodgers. Iâm going after her and bringing her back before she makes it to them.â Jake growled.
âDonât make us do this, man.â Sean said softly.
âGo boss someone else around.â Jake said, about to go through the fence to search for his girl. Before he could arms wrapped around his waist, pulling him back. He fought back, eventually getting out of the personâs grip only to find it was Craig. Craig, Estela, and Sean blocked his path now. âGet the fuck out of my way.â He growled.
âNo, Jake.â Estela said. Jake reacted quickly. He kicked Sean back, only making him stumble a bit. He went to punch Craig, but Estela swept his legs out from under him and he fell to the ground on his ass.
âYouâre all just gonna fucking let her do this? Go on that suicide mission?â He asked the three. He understood Sean wanting that; hell, he was probably the one who told her to go.
âCâmon, Jake, like I said yesterday: youâre the one that said she calls her own plays.â Sean said softly.
âBut was this really her own call? Or did you convince her itâs what she should do?â Jake growled. He stepped up so he was nose to nose with the quarterback.
âJake, it was her call, man.â Craig said.
âThatâs bullshit!â Jake yelled. He couldnât believe that. He wouldnât believe that. She would never do this.
âJake, I need you to listen to me.â A voice spoke behind the pilot. He turned to find Diego. Diego looked worse than how Jake felt. He looked so broken and devastated.
âDonât you join in on this.â Jake growled, holding back tears. If Diego said it was her choice, then it was her choice. Diego was her best friend. Out of anyone, he would be the one to know why or what she chose.
âCome with me, Jake. Letâs talk.â Diego whispered his voice breaking. Without making sure the pilot was following, he walked off. Jakeâs legs carried him after the younger man. He was lead to the bar by the pool. âHave a drink. Itâll probably help.â Diego said dryly, pouring himself a shot of Crown Royale. He forced a smile to the pilot as Jake poured himself a glass of whiskey. Jake quickly downed three drinks of the whiskey before turning to Diego.
âDonât tell me she chose it.â Jake pleaded.
âIâm not gonna lie to you, Jake. She talked to me about it first. I tried my hardest to talk her out of itâŚbut she wanted to do what was best for the group. This is what she thought was the best. Diego said softly, yet there was a numbness to his voice.
âWhy arenât you mad?â Jake asked.
ââCause thereâs no controlling that girl. Thereâs no changing her mind. She wanted to do this. There was nothing you or I could say or do to stop it.â Diego whispered as a single tear slid down his cheek.
âSo she just said she was leaving us and you didnât do this?â Jake asked, standing up. He wasnât mad at Diego. He was mad that she didnât at least talk to him personally about it, but she talked to everyone else. He walked away, the anger spiking in him once more. He took the elevator and went to his room, smashing everything he could.
âChoke, tried to wash you down with something strong. Dry but the taste of blood remains. Cold, empty mattresses and falling stars. My, how they start to look the same.â
He searched and found the strongest liquor he could find. Nursing most of the bottle, he went down to the pool and lay in the hammock, the bottle by his side. He tried to forget her; forget how she smelled, how she looked, how she was, how she tasted. He just wanted to forget everything about her; drift off and wake up back in Costa Rica. He wanted everything that happened to be some realistic, fucked up nightmare he could wake up from.
It was late now and he saw a few falling stars. He wished he could see her again. He felt tears prickling at his eyes, but he didnât want to cry. He bit back the tears and went back to his room, locking himself inside. He wanted so bad to fall into bed and pull her into his arms, but he doesnât get to do that anymore. Instead, he got in bed and shivered at the cold of it. After tossing and turning for a few hours, he went back to the hammock. Once there he fell to sleep almost instantly.
âNo, no more eyes to see the sun, you slide into bed while I get drunk. Slow conversations with a gun mean more than Iâve ever said to anyone.â
A few weeks had passed and they still hadnât heard anything from MC. Jake felt like he was losing his mind once again. This is what happens when you get close to someone, he remembered. His mind went back to war days with Mike. Days before they found out about Lundgrenâs traitorous ways.
He remembered the times that Lundgren would bully others. When he would capture what he said was the enemy and just torture them, holding a gun to their head. Jake could remember how easily the, supposed, enemies would share what they knew when their life was on the line. No actual soldier would give in. He remembered all his time spent behind enemy lines after losing Mike, trying to get back and confront Lundgren.
Suddenly his memories switched to nights that MC would specifically go to bed early. He could always picture her going to bed alone while he continued to drink. That was before their first night together. He always felt bad imagining her going to sleep alone.
He pulled out o the memories and realized it was night and he was on the roof. For some time he had been sleeping all day and staying up drinking all night. He didnât want to be around her classmates. All those college kids looked at him with pity. He didnât need their pity.
âSo keep in happiness and torture me while I tell you âletâs go in style.â A million hooks around a million ways to die. Darling, letâs go inside. Itâll be alright.â
He thought back to conversations with MC. They used to talk about what they wanted in life. They talked about everything it seemed. He told her how he imagined having a normal life again, maybe get married, have a kid or two, but he knew that couldnât happen. He told her about all the times he almost died during war.
He remembered her saying her saying that there were so many ways they could die in life. He knew she loved him the minute she told him that she was glad he hadnât died all the times he could have. Most of those conversations would be while they were cuddling in the hammock at night. After talking for so long and finally feeling tired, he would always suggest they go inside. She would always smile and say she liked it outside, but would follow him inside.
âBut last night you said you ended up in Palm Springs dancing on tables, almost fought some bitch at the club, got kicked out of your hotel and lost your shoes. Well, fuck, what am I supposed to be, impressed? Youâre just another set of bones to lay to rest, I guess itâs time Iâll say goodnight. Hope you had a really good time, good time.â
The thoughts turned into a memory of one of their last nights together. He tried to fight the memory back. That didnât work out too well.
âWhatâs the craziest thing youâve ever done?â She asked him with a small smile. He chuckled and looked over at her.
âYou mean crazier than being on the run? And crazier that my war stories Iâve told you?â He asked with a raised eyebrow. âPrincess, my whole life is filled with crazy experiences.â
âRight. Sorry.â She giggled, softly placing her head on his bare chest. His hand slowly moved to her hair, running his fingers through it slowly.
âWhatâs your craziest story? Anything to match up to mine?â He asked, genuinely curious.
âWellâŚthere was this one time I was really drunk.â She whispered.
âOh, this I gotta hear.â He chuckled.
âWell, um, this one time Diego and I decided to take a quick and random trip to Palm Springs duringâŚI think it was summer break.â She said, thinking hard for what to say. âI honestly donât remember anything that happened. I just know what Diego told me the next day. We were illegally drinking and I guess I drank more than anyone thought I did because I was legitimately hammered. It was bad.â
She giggled before continuing with her story.
âI guess I decided it would be a great idea to dance on some tables. Then I almost fought some bitch for saying something rude to Diego. Diego and I ended up having to go home because I got us kicked out of our hotel. I also lost my shoes somewhere that night. Those were my favorite shoes too. I guess I was being super loud and rambunctious and thatâs why we were kicked out of the hotel.â
âDamn, Princess.â He said with a chuckle. As he chuckled, her head bounced a bit as it laid on his chest.
âApparently we ran into the bitch again from the club or whatever. She was sayin that I was throwing my life away. She thought I was an alcoholic, when in reality I just didnât have a high tolerance to alcohol, she also said that I was just another set of bones to bury if I didnât stop drinking. I tried to fight her again, but Diego said goodnight and forced me into the car.â MC explained.
âSo youâre feisty, eh?â He asked with a laugh.
âI guess you could say that.â She said with a smile. She turned and softly kissed his lips.
He shook away the memory. That was a good night, but now it just made his heart ache. She was gone and there was nothing he could do to change that.
âAnd I will soon forget the color of your eyes and youâll forget mine.â
He nursed a bottle and stared out into the forest. He hoped a day would come when he forgot about her. When he forgot how they bonded, how the ocean made her eyes shine brighter. He wanted to forget her mannerisms. Maybe then he would be able to sleep peacefully at night again.

Beautiful With You
Something that isnât for any particular fandom, just something I wrote while thinking about the man I love and fell for who just happens to be a Marine.
Word Count: 1,448
Summary: Based off not only the lyrics to Beautiful With You by Halestorm, but also a text post I found that said âI wanted him in the bluntest way. I wanted his lips, his hands, his arms. I wanted him the way the ocean wants the shore, constantly reaching and running back. I wanted him the way rain wants to fall, the way the sun wants to shine, the way words want to be read. I wanted him to infinity, to the millionth degree; no amount of rain could douse the fire I had in me for him.â I also decided I wanted it to be somewhat sad, so thereâs that. Enjoy?
---------------
Everyone was gathered for a Celebration of Life. She sat alone, listening intently as others shared their stories of him. Her heart ached at the loss of him, but no one actually knew the relationship between her and him.
She fumbled with a folded up paper in her hands. She had written a little speech to read about him. She wasnât actually sure if she would read it or not. One of their mutual friends walked up to her.
âHow are you doing? I know you two were close.â
âIâve been better.â She said and forced a smile. Her friend noticed the note in her hand.
âWhatâs that?â The friend asked.
âJust something I was thinking of saying about him.â She whispered, unsure if she was heard. She stared down at her hands.
âI think you should read it.â Her friend said reassuringly. Her only response was to nod and wait for her turn.
âI stare at the girl in the mirror. T-shirt, torn up jeans, no beauty queen, but the way that you see me, you get underneath me, and all my defenses just fall away. Fall away.â
She slowly stood to her feet and unfolded the paper. Her eyes scanned the words. She took one last deep breath before reading.
âI remember the first met him. I didnât think I would ever feel how I do about him. At that point, I was a very insecure young girl. But around him, I could be myself. I felt beautiful when around him.â
She wiped away a stray tear that slid down her cheek. With a breath, she tried to compose herself.
âWhen I was around him, my walls just came down. I was so open and honest when we were alone. We were so close. I was never defensive or closed off with him. It was, honestly, the best feeling.â
She subconsciously licked her lips, dampening them.
âI stand naked before you now no walls to hide behind, so here I am, you see all my scars still here you are. I bare my soul and Iâm not afraid. Not afraid.â
The memories she wrote about slowly started to play in her mind. Every laugh, every smile, every tear, and every serious moment he was there. Another few tears escaped, escalating down her cheeks slowly. A cold breeze dried her cheeks free of tears.
âNot many people know this, but I was a virgin until I was 20. It was 20 when I finally gave into the thoughts and urges. I gave him the most private part of myself. I still remember the first time. I was so nervous.â
She chuckled, remembering how scared she felt with his eyes on her naked body. Only for him to softly press a kiss to her lips and tell her how beautiful she looked.
âI had scars everywhere, I still do. He had called me beautiful and I told him I wasnât. I had just never seen how I could be beautiful with all my scars. I can still remember so clearly the look of love he had as he stared into my eyes. He told me he didnât care about the scars and that they made me more beautiful to him.â
She sniffled, not looking up from her paper. She missed him so bad.
âAfter he said that, all my fear just dissipated. All that mattered was me and him. I never wanted to claim we were friends with benefits because that was usually just having sex. There was so much more between us. Hell, the sex for us didnât even come around until like 4 years later.â
She wouldnât look at the reactions of the people around her. She knew it would be a shock. They had hid their relationship. Both insisted that that was their business and no one elseâs.
âIâve been the strong one for so long. But, I was wrong. Doesnât make you weak âcause you needed someone. Iâm not holding back and I know what I want.â
Finally she looked up at the group of people.
âI felt like I had to be strong for so many years. I didnât think I needed anyone. Then he came into my life and flipped that thought upside down. Everything was just so different then.â
A real smile found her lips as she remembered his smile.
âEverything was always different with him for me. He really changed my life.â She took a quick sip of her drink to coat her drying throat.
âYou want me for myself look at me at no one else.â
She shifted on her feet, putting her weight more on her foot now with how she was standing.
âI remember noticing that he never looked at other women; even when I asked him. His eyes, somehow, never strayed from me. I had always thought he was messing with me when he would say he didnât need to look at them when he had me to look at.â
The sadness started hitting her again. Tears building up in her eyes, she did her best to choke them back.
âI wish I had believed him before the fateful day we all lost him.â She whispered. Her voice was starting to break with each word.
âI am beautiful with you, even in the darkest part of me, I am beautiful with you. Make it feel the way itâs supposed to be, youâre here with me, just show me this and Iâll believe, I am beautiful with you.â
She took a few moments to compose herself once more.
âHe was the best thing to happen to me. He made me feel good for the first time in years. It was the most magical feeling for me. I fell so hard for him and so fast.â
More tears welled up in her eyes. Her mind wouldnât stray from their last day together. He had saved her. It was because of her that he was dead. If she hadnât asked to go shopping and was watching where she was going, he would still be alive.
âWe struggled with our relationship type thing all while he was gone in another country. It was hard. It wasnât even a relationship really. We were two friends who wanted to be together, but didnât want to deal with long distance. It was hard but we got through it. We moved in together when he came back.â
She paused to make sure she was still as pulled together as possible.
âWe told everyone we were just roommates, but we were more than that. I feel like weâve always been a little more than what weâve said we are. We were so close and I just wanted him to myself. I wanted him to be mine. I wanted him to be with him. I just didnât know how to ask for it. Somehow, I think he knew what I wanted.â
She stopped. Tears were now streaming down her cheeks. She started to take deep breaths. She knew she needed to calm down and finish what she was saying. God, she wished he was here to hold her and tell her everything would be alright.
âI wanted him in the bluntest way. I wanted his lips, his hands, his arms. I wanted him the way the ocean wants the shore, constantly reaching and running back. I wanted him the way that rain wants to fall, the way the sun wants to shine, the way words want to be read. I wanted him to infinity, to the millionth degree; no amount of rain could have doused the fire I had in me for him.â
She lost her composure once more. Breaking down completely this time, silent sobs moved her body as the tears fell from her eyes. She almost dropped to her knees like when she was told he didnât make it.
âWe were together on his last day. I was being stupid, but that was the usual for us. We always had acted immature until our serious moments. If I had just been watching and paying attention, he wouldnât be dead right now. He pushed me out of the way and got hit by the car because I wasnât watching.â
Now she dropped to her knees.
âI lost the love of my life because I was being stupid.â She whispered. A few people came to console her, but she couldnât concentrate on them. Instead, she could only concentrate on his last words. He had told her how much he loved her. It was the first and last time he had said it.
Little did anyone know, a piece of him would carry on in their lives.
