Hey folks, I know it's been a hot minute since I've posted a prop replica to Tumblr, but someone let me know that some of my images have been stolen and are being used on one of those scam sites that are taking over the internet. Please be aware that I do not sell any of the props I make (And if I ever did, I certainly would be charging a lot more than 50 bucks for it, considering my props take countless hours to make).
Tumblr media
I have no actual affiliation with this site, and would recommend everyone avoid it... I seriously doubt you'd get anything resembling the prop I made in return for your hard-earned money.

So, right after posting the previous drawing one of my Instagram followers (Thank you C_Robinns!) pointed out a line of Piggy's from the Muppet Show describing Kermit's eyes and I am immediately forced to acknowledge that THIS is the far superior version of this scene (Seriously how perfect is this line??).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
More Muppet Princess Bride fan art! I didn't feel a need to Muppetify this line at all, I feel like Piggy saying this and then cutting to Kermit's trademark eyes is funny enough. Hopefully ya'll agree!
I spent way too much time wondering if I should change "Farm boy" to "Farm frog" but farm boy just sounded better.
I intended to draw Kermit with the same expression Westley has in the film, but it's hard to resist giving Kermit at least a slight smile. So let's just say he's smiling because he genuinely appreciates Piggy's compliment.

I'm excited (And slightly terrified) to post the project that's been occupying most of my spare time for the last few months, filming a very in-depth tutorial on how to make one of my Firey Plush toys for Youtube! I have been wanting to make this video a reality for a few years now, so it's sorta surreal to finally see it finally complete. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous about the quality of this video, I'm very much an amateur at sewing after all. But if an amateur like me can make this cool plush, then surely the majority of folks out there can make it too!
Hopefully this'll be the first of a good few prop replica tutorials I film for Youtube, but I'm gonna reward myself with a bit of a break before I even think about recording something again.

My Muppet Princess Bride drawings found their way to Facebook and from that came a ton of good suggestions for scenes. Rizzo as a R.O.U.S. has been suggested by a lot of different folks for as long as I've been doing these drawings, but I was never quite sure how to handle the scene until a commenter suggested Rizzo's line. Maybe it resonated with me because I can kinda relate to Rizzo in this moment (especially so soon after Valentines Day!). Thanks to Paul Adams who provided Rizzo's line, and gave me permission to use it in this drawing.
And shout-out to movie-screencaps.com for providing the backgrounds, I like to edit shots from the movie for my backgrounds because it allows me to focus on the fun part of drawing Muppets. There's also just something fun about 'painting' the Muppets into the actual film.

I just wanted to let you know that I showed my parents your Muppet Princess Bride pictures (they're in their 60s, both are big Muppet fans and Princess Bride is one of their favourite movies) and they loved them, especially the Swedish Chef one, they thought that one was really funny. My dad also loves your art, he thought it was really pretty!
I'm honoured to have their seal of approval, please tell your parents thank you for me!
I've been a bit busy the last few weeks but I've been chipping away at a new MPB drawing, so hopefully I can share that with everyone sometime soon!

wondering for the muppets bride who the six figured man is? if he’s beaker because he’s the torture dude or if beaker is the albino guy?
anyway phenomenal idea gonzo and camilla as miracle max and his wife is the best thing ever
Happy to clarify! In my casting I have Uncle Deadly as Count Rugen, quite honestly the majority of my casting choices boil down to "Who would I personally like to see in that role", and I just thought Uncle Deadly would be really fun Rugen. In the film Rugen is pretty understated in the torture scene, but I think Deadly would really ham it up in a fun way. Beaker is the Albino in my version of the story solely because I'd rewrite the moment where the Albino clears his throat (Going from a scratchy voice to a normal one) to be Beaker talking like a regular person at first, then he clears his throat and is back to talking with his usual "Mimimimimi's". Not sure if that gag'll make a lotta sense when I draw it out, but that's how I picture it in my head anyways! And Bunsen is just there helping Deadly/Rugen and Beaker/the Albino with the torture machine, because how could you have Beaker and not have Bunsen? Especially when there's a fun science experiment going on, I think Bunsen would insist on being a part of the scene even if he has no specific role he's playing.

I just want to say a huge "Thank you!" to everyone who shared the Muppet Princess Bride drawings. Sorry that I haven't replied to many of the comments on the post, please know they are very much appreciated! In all my years on the internet I've never had that much of a response to anything I posted before, so I was quite honestly a little overwhelmed by the experience. A good kind of overwhelm mind you! But I definitely felt a bit like a deer in the headlights for a bit there ha ha! I'm very grateful that the silly drawings I did to make myself smile have made other people smile too. And I have the hope that I can keep making more Muppet Princess Bride drawings, whenever the inspiration strikes me. I don't know how to end this post, so here's a silly little bonus drawing I did a while ago with Kermit and Piggy as Jareth and Sarah from Labyrinth.

How does it feel for your art to be the reason the muppets and the princess bride are trending?
I'm blown away by the response, and very grateful that folks are enjoying my art! I'm sure a large part of that is just the fact that a Muppet Princess Bride retelling is a hugely appealing idea, with or without my drawings. Regardless, I'm very happy to contribute my art and make the adaptation a little more tangible for folks! I'd genuinely love for Disney to make Muppet Princess Bride a reality one day. This might be hopelessly optimistic, but maybe if there's enough chatter about it online they'll take pity on us Muppet fans and one day give us the remake we're all clamouring for.

Hey there, i am absolutely OBSESSED with your muppets princess bride AU, and i want to congratulate you on your absolutely inspired casting choices- especially the swedish chef as the bishop! I was wondering who else you'd cast for other characters, like miracle max and valerie, the albino torturer, the ROUS (i'm just picturing rizzo just dressing and behaving like he normally does), the ancient boo-er, and Yellin the gate guard? Thank you for permanently altering my brain chemistry with this AU its brilliant
Thank you very much for the kind words! I'm glad folks are liking the casting choices. For every role there's usually a good 2-3 Muppets who would also be amazing in the part, so I'm glad that people enjoy the picks I went with. As for the roles you mentioned, right now in my head I have this casting:
Gonzo and Camilla as Miracle Max and his wife
Beaker as the Torturer (With Bunsen also assisting with the torture machine)
Statler and Waldorf as the Ancient Booer(s)
Fozzie as Yellin
And yup, Rizzo just has to be the ROUS (Which in this case I guess would be the Rodent-Of-Usual-Size?)
I'm hoping that eventually I'll have at least one illustration of each major character/Muppet in the film!

I've slowly been chipping away at drawing scenes from that imaginary Muppet retelling of the Princess Bride, figured it was about time to share what I've drawn on Tumblr!

The older I get the more camera shy I've gotten, but I bought myself a rendition of Sarah's vest and blouse from Vixen by Micheline Pitt and I had to get at least one cool photo of me wearing it! Thankfully my recent helmet build is the cure for any photo anxiety. I like to think this is what Sarah would've done had she had a bit more time at the end of her journey, curiously investigating the weird world she's found herself in.
I'm really impressed by the quality of the vest and blouse from Vixen, technically they aren't 100% movie accurate but they sure look the part (And hey, they saved me the trouble of having to sew my own!). It's hard to see in the photo but the brooch I'm using came from the very talented graphitepusher on Instagram. In hindsight I wish I had photographed myself from the left side so their brooch would've been more visible because they did a fantastic job with it.
Fun fact, but I took this shot by tethering my computer to my camera so I could take photos by tapping my mouse with my foot while holding the pose.

Ages ago I got a resin helmet kit from LunaArmorWorks on Etsy, it sat in my to-do pile for the longest time but I finally got around to finishing and painting it up. It's been so long since I bought this helmet that LunaArmorWorks doesn't sell it anymore, so I'm grateful I picked it up when I did because I don't know if I could've made something this cool all on my own!
Once I started working on this one, it was pretty easy to put together. I added a few additional details with apoxie sculpt and bondo before priming and sanding the helmet. I used a few different spray paints and masking fluid to get the chipped paint effect, then dusted on chalk pastels to add to the worn look.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hardest part of this project was trying to figure out how to make a faux chainmail hood, which you don't even see in the glamour shots. I used a dollar store rug gripper, I dyed mine red with Rit Dyemore because I thought it might save me the effort of painting it (only for me to paint it anyways because I realised I should make it silver with red drybrushing).

I really love how the first photo turned out, can you believe I took that in my kitchen? I don't know if I'm just kidding myself, but I feel like it actually looks like it was shot outdoors. Fun fact, but I edited in the clouds and leaf litter from scenes in Labyrinth where Sarah is in the hedge maze area. I'm gonna have to do that for future photoshoots because I love knowing a bit of the film is in these photos.

A while back I made Jareth's crop out of a metal cane and existing crop and I had this nagging thought in my head telling me "I bet you could make this from scratch and make it even more movie accurate too...". So here's version 2, made completely from scratch with some wooden dowels, worbla, a contact juggling ball, and a few other bits and pieces.
Really thrilled with how this turned out, super satisfying to have created something so cool from scratch. Shout out to the amazingly talented Alyson Tabbitha for her Jareth costume tutorial on Youtube, which I used to make the Jareth shirt used in the first photo. The pic of me as Jareth holding the crop has become one of my favourite pictures that I've taken of my prop replicas, so glad that it turned out exactly like I pictured in my head. I'll put a few WIP shots below!
I used two dowels for this project, a a 7/8 inch large wooden dowel for the handle, and a 7/16 inch dowel for the rod part. I drilled into the larger rod so that I could slot the smaller rod inside of it, and both rods were drilled into so I could insert a wood pin to strengthen the join.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I added some wire to help form the "talons" of the crop, which was then covered by worbla. I also used a cut off bit of a wooden door knob to form a little trim piece for the end of the crop handle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The crystal is a 50 mm contact juggling ball, which had just enough wiggle room in the "Talons" where I can squeeze it in and out to make painting easier. Just as an FYI, the crystal in these WIP pictures was a smaller one that I swapped out later, so excuse that continuity error!
I used my heat gun to heat/form the worbla, but I made sure not to apply the heat to the contact juggling ball as it was made out of acrylic and could deform with heat. I would use the heat gun to warm the worbla, then while it was still hot I would put the ball in place and form the worbla around it. Any blemishes on the ball (From either the worbla or the paint in the later stages), came off with a q-tip dampened with rubbing alcohol.
For this project, painting was using a filler primer, followed by a black glossy spray paint, followed by a silver spray paint, a wash of black acrylic paint to bring out the details, and some silver rub n'buff on the highest points of the sculpt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then I just wound the rod with some leather binding tape, patterned out the slappy bit of the crop, sewed a little pocket onto the slappy bit so that it could slot onto the crop, and then tidied up the join area with some waxed thread.

Happy Halloween everyone! Here's a Muppet movie mash-up to help celebrate. I always appreciated how Nightmare Before Christmas ends with snow, because my part of Canada usually gets our first winter snowfall right around Halloween. Generally, planning out your Halloween costume involves either finding out a way to make your costume warmer, or resigning yourself to having to wear a winter parka over your pristine Pikachu costume. Fun fact, but my Muppet movie mash-ups are basically an excuse for me to draw Kermit and Piggy looking at each other lovingly.

Happy Halloween-Eve! I'm still in a bit of a Coraline mood so I decided to pull out the button key I made a few years ago, give it a fresh coat of glossy black paint, and take a glamour shot. This was a simple build to put together, but it's so effective... just a giant button, a styrene rod with a couple of beads for detail, and a bit of apoxie sculpt for the bit.
Tumblr media
The wallpaper pattern I got from the official Coraline Pinterest board (Yes, that is infact a thing, I was surprised but grateful as it adds a nice touch to the picture). That is my actual hand you see in the pic, though the nails are fake. I actually can't stand the feeling of long nails but short nails wouldn't do for the Other Mother, so fake nails it was! Now, I'll have to brainstorm other ways I can use fake red nails so I can justify the 9 bucks I spent on them.
Also fun fact, but I actually totally botched the paint job on this key and will have to redo it, but hey that's a good example of the magic of a precisely posed photo on the internet. If you ever get bummed out that you can't make something look as good as an artist you follow online, there's a good chance that their project has some big ol'flaws that are super obvious in person, but can't be seen on camera.

I'm usually not very timely with my craft builds, but this year I managed to get my act together to make something that suited the spooky month of October: The Other Mother's Button Box, as seen in Laika's adaptation of Coraline.
I made this box entirely from scratch with recycled paperboard from food packaging, covering it with fabric and using fabric spray paint for the stripes. I didn't get the shape of the box quite right compared to the one in the film, but I still really like how this one turned out. Weirdly I chalk it up entirely to the ribbon, something about the finished bow looks extra-amazing and I think it's thanks to double stacking some sheer ribbon over red satin ribbon. It gives it that extra bit of glittery shine that you can see on the ribbon on the box in the film. I think it adds to the sinister vibe of this box... How could something that looks so pretty contain something so frightening?
Shout-out to the very nice floorsperson at Michaels who helped cut the fabric for this box, and who was very excited to hear what I was using it for. Hopefully you see this so you know how the box turned out!
