Words of Shakespeare: Happy 20th Anniversary Supanova!
On the weekend of the 18th and 19th of June 2022, I went with six friends and two support workers (and of course my old friend Richard and other friends Sam and Hayden) went to the Supanova Comic and Gaming convention at The Dome at Sydney Olympic Park (my favourite entertainment fortress of solitude!).
Throughout the weekend, we saw a variety of cosplayers from Anime such as My Hero Academia and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, video games from my childhood such as Pokémon, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon and Games from the previous decade including Undertale and Deltarune, cartoons and animated movies such as Steven Universe, the popular Disney adventure cartoon The Owl House and classics such as Beauty and the Beast and Mulan, web cartoons such as Vivienne Medrano’s Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss and Rooster Teeth’s RWBY, childhood animations such as Pingu, Characters from cult shows such as Monkey from the British gag dub of the same name that aired on ABC in the early eighties and of course cosplay from sci-fi movies and tv shows such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who and Marvel and DC comic books and movies including classic heroes and villains such as Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Loki, Superman, Batman, The Joker, Harley Quinn and the rest.
A majority of the well designed displays of the cosplayers were also shown at the Cosplay Showcase at the Cosplay Theatre across from The Dome at Hall 5.
I was also amazed by how many male cosplayers can cosplay as female characters like for example, when I saw a male Tawna Bandicoot cosplayer and females cosplaying as Deku from My Hero.
At Supanova when I first entered The Dome, there was a wall of Supanova Posters from the past 20 years starting with 2002 up until this year, my much loved Convention has hosted a plethora of well known guests from movies, tv shows, anime and cartoons including Sean Schemmel (voice of Goku from the Dragon Ball anime), Dan Green (voice of Yugi Mutou/ Pharaoh from Yu-Gi-Oh! Classic and Knuckles the Echidna from Sonic X and the various Sonic games from 2003-2009), Barbara Eden (From I Dream of Jeannie), John Barrowman (From Doctor Who) David Hasselhoff (from Baywatch) The late Verne Troyer (Mini Me from the Austin Powers movie franchise) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia Organa of Star Wars) , Richard Horvitz (voice of Invader Zim and Alpha 5 from the earlier Power Rangers seasons Mighty Morphin to Turbo and currently the voice of Moxxie from Helluva Boss), Jeremy Shada, John DiMaggio, Olivia Olson and Jessica DiCicco, the Adventure Time cast of Finn, Jake, Marceline and Flame Princess/Phoebe respectively, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers cast members Jason David Frank (Tommy), Austin St John (Jason), Walter Emmanuel Jones (Zack), Johnny Yong Bosch (Adam), David Yost (Billy), Karan Ashley (Aisha) and of course the late legendary godfather of Marvel Comic Book superheroes Stan Lee who appeared in the 2014 edition of Supanova in Sydney. I have been attending Supanova Comic Cons since 2011 with the exception of 2015 when I was experiencing financial and physical burnout from my Melbourne trip and 2020 which was unable to be held due to well…horrid stuff and seeing those old posters of previous cons made me feel very nostalgic.
Supanova had a variety of stalls which you could buy various merchandise such as comics, pop vinyl figures, statues, trading cards, plush dolls of anime characters and video game characters and vintage merchandise such as action figures from tv show and cartoon franchises including Transformers, Power Rangers, He-Man, Batman the animated series, Star Wars, Star Trek and older comics from the eighties and nineties. Supanova also had a stall where you could buy autographs from previous years conventions.
For those who want some physical enjoyment, there was the archery target course and of course, my new favourite from last year, the Battlecry LARP sword fights. Richard and I had a great time taking down a burly ax wielding knight with rubber swords as you get a lot of exercise out of it as well!
There was also Star Wars Lightsaber demonstrations and testing your might as you try to lift Thor’s Hammer Mjölnir!
For those who love gaming, there were gaming areas where you could play Rocket League, Super Smash Bros and Ubisoft’s Just Dance whilst there was also gaming tournaments and demonstrations as well and of course board and dice games such as Dungeons and Dragons!
Looking through The Alley seeing all the prints of artwork and comic books by independent artists made me feel amazed inside, I bought a print of Spyro the Dragon and stickers of Stolas and Blitzø of Helluva Boss from Bunsanity and a commission of the character Wizarmon/Wizardmon from Bandai’s Digimon virtual pet, anime and video game franchise from art by Cyanide. I really loved how well designed Wizarmon looked even though if the artists never got into the Digimon franchise.
I even had my fortune told via Pokémon trading cards by a Mimikyu cosplayer!
There was also comic book artists from Australia such as Alex T. Trip who did illustrations for The Phantom, Jamie Johnson who did illustrations for IDW’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics and Dean Rankine who did illustrations for Simpsons Comics and Oggy and the Cockroaches (France’s answer to Tom and Jerry). One of the comic books I bought was by independent comic book artist Bad Harvie and his Ozploitation anthology comic book series modelled after Grindhouse low budget horror movies from the seventies and eighties. Definitely not for those with a weak stomach if I say so myself.
I was also happy that there wasn’t any offending stalls at the Alley unlike last year when Supanova was embroiled in controversy where there was a stall selling right wing extremist and Neo Nazi merchandise as conventions are a place of celebrating who we are and we do not condone any hate here.
For the con-goers who were looking for an appetite, Dominos Pizza was serving up pizzas, garlic bread and Pepsi drinks as usual and the cafés inside the Dome sold Pies, burgers and Bagels. Outside the dome had stalls such as Chips on a Stick, Wally’s Hot Dogs, Hot Dog on a Stick, Cheese on a Stick (who would usually be there at the Sydney Royal Easter Show) and Ian’s Ice Creams.
Now it was time for the main attraction and a mainstay for Supanova since the beginning, the guests! This year’s Sydney Supanova was the first edition with overseas stars in three years caused by well…again…bad stuff and the guests included Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum aka Clark Kent and Lex Luthor from Smallville, Michael Biehn from The Terminator and The Mandalorian, Mark Shepperd from Supernatural, Emile De Ravine from Once Upon a Time, James and Oliver Phelps aka the Weasley Twins from the Harry Potter films, the part of the Supanova furniture, John Jarratt who is a very friendly fellow despite playing one of the most infamous horror characters in Australian film history which is Mick Taylor from the Wolf Creek movies (which gave me uncontrollable bowel movement when I was younger and Jarratt never appeared on an episode of Play School in the eighties for those who are a victim of the “Mandela Effect!”), and of course, one of the first few guests from Supanova’s inaugural convention in 2002, Veronica Taylor, the original voice of Ash Ketchum from the 4Kids English dub of the Pokémon anime series and movies from 1998 to 2006.
Even though I was very determined to wait two and a half hours to obtain Taylor’s autograph and photo with her (and a much needed interval to use the restroom and chow down on a hot dog on a stick!), it was definitely worth the $60 to greet Taylor and to acknowledge her as one of the voices of my childhood growing up watching the Pokémon anime in the late nineties and early 2000’s on Cheez TV hosted by Jade and Ryan (who also appeared at the 2016 Edition of Supanova).
Taylor was also a very lovely person to talk to as well as I discussed all those precious memories!
I also attended a seminar at the Cosplay theatre where the Phelps Twins discussed their time playing as the Weasleys in the Harry Potter films with a number of funny stories to tell too!
This year’s Supanova was a roaring return to form and without any controversies or kerfuffles after what happened last year in the artist’s alley. Supanova is such a great way to dress up as your favourite character, meet new friends, join and explore new fandoms, be involved in activities, meeting your favourite celebrities and of course, reliving your childhood in the process (like I did when I met Veronica)!
My only negatives for this year’s convention was the long waiting time in groups to see big name celebrities and only a minuscule number of voice actors appearing. After all, we are still in a dwindling health crisis and we should get to see more well known voice actors from cartoons and anime next year (Still praying for Richard Horvitz!) and of course, more well known guests from movies and tv shows!
I give this year’s Supanova an 8 out of 10!
This has been another Supa review of Words of Shakespeare!
Stay Amazing and Happy Trails!

Words of Shakespeare Retro Edition: “You Ooze, You Lose!”
Today, I viewed one of my favourite martial arts movies of my childhood to celebrate the final day of 2021 which was “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie” released in 1995 by 20th Century Fox, Saban Entertainment and Toei Company, directed by Bryan Spicer and starring Amy Jo Johnson as Kimberly Hart (Pink Pterodactyl Ranger), David Yost as Billy Cranston (Blue Triceratops Ranger), Steven Cardenas as Rocky Desantos (Red Tyrannosaurus Ranger), Johnny Yong Bosch as Adam Park (Black Mastodon Ranger), Karan Ashley as Aisha Campbell (Yellow Sabretooth Tiger Ranger) and Jason David Frank as Tommy Oliver (White Tiger Ranger) , the main Power Rangers team from the second half of the second season of Mighty Morphin’ onwards.
The movie also contains appearances from Paul Schrier as Farcus Bulkmeier (aka Bulk), Jason Narvy as Eugene Skullovitch (aka Skull) the latter two cast regulars of the main show being the fan favourite civilian characters of the Power Rangers franchise as a whole and Paul Freeman as Ivan Ooze, An original villain exclusive to this movie as well as voice acting from Richard Steven Horvitz of Invader Zim, Grim Adventures and Helluva Boss fame as Alpha 5, Bob Manahan as Zordon, Barbara Goodson as Rita Repulsa, Robert Axelrod as Lord Zedd, Kerrigan Mahan as Goldar and Martin G Metcalf as Mordant, another original comic relief villain exclusive to the movie in place of Squatt and Baboo from the main show.
MINOR SPOILER ALERT
When the ominous entity known as “Ivan Ooze” (Freeman) awakes from his 2000 year slumber out of a mysterious purple egg found in a construction site at Downtown Angel Grove and destroys the Command Center and the Energy tube containing their mentor Zordon (Manahan) resulting in his life force being rapidly depleted, The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers must venture into a faraway planet known as Phaedos from the inhabitant Dulcea (Gabrielle Fitzpatrick) and obtain the new Ninjetti powers and Zords in order to stop Ooze from unleashing his “Ectomorphicon Titans” deep underground via brainwashing the parents of Angel Grove
and save their beloved guide Zordon before he expires.
“Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie “ that will warm the memories of millennials who grew up in the mid nineties watching the canon tv series as the film was released during the “RangerMania” fad of that period with the releases of action figures and various Power Rangers branded merchandise during the first three seasons of Mighty Morphin from 1993 to 1995 being the loose English adaptations of the Japanese superhero tv series Super Sentai with the core five Ranger suits being taken from “Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger,” Tommy the White Tiger Ranger’s suit being taken from the sixth ranger “Kibaranger” from “Gosei Sentai Dairanger” and the Ninjetti Powers, motifs and Zords being loosely taken from “Ninja Sentai Kakuranger,” however this movie is in its own canon, although the third season of the canonical Mighty Morphin would later adapt from the latter “Sentai” season with their ninja animal motifs, Giant mechs and monsters.
What I loved about this movie was going back to my childhood even though I didn’t grow up with the original three seasons of MMPR, although my older brother had the remote controlled Dino Megazord (Daizyujin) from the first season as I mostly grew up with the Later Saban and early Disney era Power Rangers seasons (In Space to Ninja Storm/SPD) via renting VHS and DVDs (I miss those times in the late nineties and early aughts), as well as the movie being filmed in Australia being filmed mostly in Sydney and New South Wales with a plethora of famous locations and landmarks such as Darling Harbour, George Street, The Queen Victoria Building, Centerpoint Tower, White Bay Power Station, Sydney Showgrounds, The Kiama Blowhole at Bombo Quarry and last but not least, the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge and the late Sydney Monorail service that gave Sydneysiders an easy way to explore the harbour city until it was sadly decommissioned In 2013 (still remains a memory for a young kid growing up in those days of the nineties). Additional scenes were filmed in Warner Bros Movie World on the Gold Coast, Queensland and the Northern Territory.
A few nitpicks of this movie were how clunky the ranger suits were (being based on the MMPR Action figures with the animal symbols on their chest as the suits in the real show were directly from the Sentai) as a few of the actors even complained from the back pain they sustained wearing them, the costumes of the four gatekeepers and puppetry of the dinosaur skeleton being laughable, the use of the cartoonish sound effects used during the Rangers’ fight with Ivan’s Oozemen and how extremely primitive the CGI was utilised in a pivotal scene, despite having a bit of a chuckle of the Ranger’s puns such as Tommy’s “I’ve got a bone to pick with you!” to the Dinosaur Skeleton creature and Billy’s “You Ooze, You Loose” after defeating one of Ivan’s Oozemen.
Despite how gratifyingly cheesy this movie was, it came out during the mid nineties and during the height of what seemed to be an unstoppable craze of the period for the young pre-teens at the time. The Power Rangers franchise is still going strong after nearly 30 years of seasons with the most recent season being Dino Fury and with Hasbro taking over the franchise from Saban Brands in 2018.
MMPR: The Movie also contains an impressive soundtrack from rock bands and pop groups such as Red Hot Chilli Peppers, SNAP, Devo, British pop duo Shampoo (for one of the cringeworthy one hit wonders of the nineties decade which is “Trouble” *shudders*) and of course Van Halen and their song “Dreams” coming from their 1986 album “5150” and the first album to feature vocalist Sammy Hagar. This was the first time I ever heard from Van Halen as a young whippersnapper and I’ve been a fan since of both the David Lee Roth and Hagar eras (except for the Gary Cherone period, God rest Eddie’s soul!) The movie also featured a souped up, rock orchestrated rendition of the main opening theme from MMPR To Power Rangers Zeo, “Go Go Power Rangers” originally composed by Ron Wasserman and composed of the “Power Rangers Orchestra” consisting of members from Mr Big, Guns N Roses, Pablo Cruise and sung by Kim Bullard. The latter opening theme would later be infamously rehashed from Power Rangers seasons Samurai to Dino Super Charge during the early years of the “Neo Saban” era when Saban brands bought the franchise back from Disney.
All in all, despite all the nineties cheesiness, “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie” is such a classic for all nineties kids and millennials, young at heart and one of the most notable movies filmed in Sydney, Australia and with an action figure/superhero franchise that’s still kicking today with a second big budget movie based on the first season being in development by eOne and Hasbro and set to be released on Netflix in 2023.
I was also very glad to meet MMPR actors Johnny Yong Bosch, David Yost and Karan Ashley aka Adam, Billy and Aisha at Supanova in 2017 and 2018 respectively, they were very kind and easy going people who are still acknowledging the popularity of the franchise’s early years.
All I can say about this movie is… “MORPHINOMINAL!”
I give this movie a 7 out of 10!
That’s my review of the movie!
Until then, stay safe, stay amazing and happy trails!!!

WORDS OF SHAKESPEARE: The Return of a very Supa Occasion! (Special guest: Richard)
On the 19th of June 2021, my old friend, Maiwel alumni and acting veteran Richard and I went to the Supanova Comic and Gaming Convention at Sydney Olympic Park in Homebush Bay. The 2021 edition of Supanova was the first time in two years that it was held in Sydney as last year’s edition was called off due to “You Know What” alongside Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth.
To implement with the health and safety protocols, the layout of the convention was more smaller and laid out to comply with physical distancing measures as well as entering via a QR Code.
When I first entered the Dome Exhibition centre seeing all of the convention goers and Cosplayers of superheroes, sci-fi and anime. I kneeled down and proclaimed “HALLELUJAH!” as many of the convention fans from NSW were starved of a taste of a full-on convention since the world went upside down early last year (Outside of the smaller edition of Oz Comic Con titled OCC POP UP which was held earlier in March of this year).
Supanova contained a teeming amount of Cosplayers from DC Comics and Marvel Superheroes, Rick and Morty, Steven Universe, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Doctor Who and Power Rangers, Cosplayers from anime such as My Hero Academia, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Naruto and Disney films including Mary Poppins, Mulan and The Little Mermaid, Cosplayers from Video games including Overwatch, Pokémon, Super Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat, Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy, Sonic the Hedgehog and Undertale, Cosplayers from Web animations for instance including RWBY, Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss as well as various furry Cosplayers and cosplays of my childhood such as Pingu. There was also a very innovative cosplay such as an attendee dressed up as a giant functional Nintendo Game Boy System! The costumes looked absolutely well designed and spot on as I asked kindly for photos!
A number of RWBY fans and Cosplayers noticed me wearing Jaune’s Pumpkin Pete Hoodie. I must admit, I’d make a pretty good Jaune cosplayer if I could get his armour, his “Crocea Mors” sword and shield and dye my hair blonde!
There was also the Cosplay stage across from The Dome where there was a competition for the very best and innovative costume, as well as seminars of the bigger name Australian celebrities.
Speaking of the celebrities, Due to the international borders being closed until either the middle of next year or when the majority of the population of Australia is vaccinated, Supanova relied heavily on home grown talent from our country for example (but not limited to) Manu Bennett, David Wenham, Josh Lawson, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Georgia Haigh, Nicholas Hamilton and frequent Supanova Attendee, John Jarratt who is famous for portraying the infamously ominous and frightening Mick Taylor from the horror movie franchise “Wolf Creek.” I still remember being scared straight to high heaven watching the movie when I was very young due to Jarratt’s portrayal of the heinous horror character next to Bill Skarsgard’s portrayal of Pennywise the clown in Stephen King’s IT Chapters one and two, but alas Jarratt was a very generous and friendly larrikin!
There was a lot of great activities to do including the “Black Widow Obstacle Course” where you had to complete a number of tasks within the time limit in order to win a prize, Star Wars Lightsaber demonstrations and tutorials and the “Battlecry” LARP (live action role playing) battle displays and demonstrations where you could fight your friend or one of the friendly Battlecry veterans such as Sammy Owen from the recent Medibank Commercial with a rubber sword or axe. This was a very great debut for my LARPING alter ego, “Boar-Head: The Sworded Brawler” and I am very interested in joining a Battlecry LARP group in the future!
There was a very colourful display of artwork, comics and prints at the Artists Alley, with various comic book artists from across Australia such as (but not limited to) Queenie Chan of Fabled Kingdom, Anthony Christou of Luminous Ages and Camillo Di Pietrantonio famous for illustrating the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IDW comics.
The Fabulous Wonder Mama also made a guest appearance as she is a superhero representing the LGBT Community.
The Artists Alley also had tables of independent artists selling comics, prints, bookmarks and badges available. Looking at the artwork made me feel like I was at an Art Museum for the fans of pop culture!
For those who want to spend some dough, there were also stalls selling new and vintage comics and trading cards, Pop Vinyl Figures, Animation cells from cartoons and movies of yesteryear, Action figures and gaming consoles from the eighties and nineties, LGBT pride flags, rock and metal band t shirts and apparel and Plushies from Japanese anime and video game franchises such as Pokémon and Digimon. There were also games to play such as Super Smash Bros Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch so fellow gamers can smash their friends out of the arena! For the con-loving geeks who were hungry, Dominos had a stall selling various flavours of pizzas and garlic bread and the canteens in the Sydney Olympic Park Dome sold fish and chips, bagels, sushi and coffee. Byron Beef Jerky also had a traditional stall selling all kinds of flavours such as Teriyaki, Chilli and the infamous “Devil’s Doo-Doo!” (Not for the faint hearted!)
Whilst Supanova Comic and Gaming Con in Sydney was a fun event for the inner nerds, parts of the con had to be completely modified and or removed in order to be healthy and safe for example, the discontinuation of handing out free goodie bags containing the guidebook and map of the layout of the con and other cool things making both the map and guide digital exclusive via the Supanova Website.
Another notable absence was the Australian Wrestling Federation wrestling ring where the pro wrestlers of the aforementioned promotion would host a series of three wrestling matches per day and the wrestlers would hand out free autographs, this really kind of hurt me as a fan of pro wrestling for sixteen years but it’s better to be safe than sick. At least the Battlecry LARP displays and demos filled in its place!
For the seminars, gone are the days of staff handing the microphone to the audience for the Q&A’s as they have to lineup behind the microphone in order to ask an interesting question to the guests.
I also didn’t like how some parts of the convention was a bit squashy when you first entered, in the artist’s alley and in some of the stalls. Like I said, we are in a receding health crisis and we need to wear masks, be physically distant, wash our hands and get the much needed vaccine shot against the you know what!
All in all, Supanova had a amazing return to full flight in Sydney despite the scare earlier in the week and the lack of International guests. I was starved of a full on convention throughout the year of misery last year and as a person on the autism spectrum, cons are such an amazing way to make new friends and to show out your inner geek, nerd, fanboy or whatever via cosplaying, gaming, greeting guests, purchasing artwork and so on and so forth all in a very safe measure!
I give this year’s Supanova in Sydney a 7 out of 10. This edition was absolutely different compared to last year’s and I have strong confidence that next year’s edition in Sydney and abroad will have well known and beloved international guests back to the much loved Comic and Gaming convention next year, just in time for Supanova’s 20th birthday!
Next time I am in Sydney, I will be going to the Vivid Festival which will be in August so stay tuned for that!
Happy trails!

WORDS OF SHAKESPEARE: ALBUMS OF SUCKAGE: Limp Bizkit-Results May Vary
The year was 2001, Nu Metal was riding high with bands such as Alien Ant Farm with their cover of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” Linkin Park had a dynamic debut with Hybrid Theory and of course Jacksonville’s Red capped dynamos Limp Bizkit were still breathing in the success of their third album suggestively titled “Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavoured Water” with tracks such as “My Generation,” “Boiler” and of course “Rollin (Air Raid Vehicle)” famously used as the entrance theme of legendary professional wrestler The Undertaker in the WWE (then known as WWF) during 2001 when he had the guise of the “American Badass” biker gimmick, but however with Limp Bizkit still embroiled with the controversy over the crushing and death of 15 year old Jessica Michalik during their infamous set at the 2001 Big Day Out Festival in Sydney and the Announcement of guitarist and heart and soul of the group, Wes Borland parting ways with the band to focus on side projects and his other band “Big Dumb Face,” left Fred Durst to pick up the pieces to record their fourth album.
As the band went through six guitarists during recording of the album (including Fred Durst and Bassist Sam Rivers) They went on a nationwide search for a new guitarist with the “Put Your Guitar Where Your Mouth Is” competition, Limp Bizkit then settled with former Snot guitarist Mike Smith and recorded a number of songs for the album which went through name changes with “Bipolar,” “Panty Sniffer,” “Less is More,” “The Search for Teddy Swoes,” before ultimately going with the generic and subtle “Results May Vary.”
Most of the songs recorded with Smith were cut due to executive meddling by Durst and it showed resulting in a depressing puerile mishmash of heavy and bleak tracks.
This album received a massive tonne of negative reception when it was released in September of 2003 after numerous delays, being ranked in at number 3 as the lowest scored album behind “Playing with Fire” by Kevin Federline. It was even being touted by some people as the album that “killed Nu Metal” which is a genre I loathe entirely as it was in a deep decline during that year.
Let’s go in the deep hole of RMV to hear why this album goes into the mantle of an “Album of SUCKAGE.”
RE-ENTRY
The intro track consists of a circus barker yelling to a kid (voiced by Fred Durst) for sixty seconds explaining about Limp Bizkit as “the most ferociously soothing ways of sonic communication to ever be created”
Okay, so I guess they were trying to copy the “Insane Clown Posse” here?
Then it bursts in a generic rock riff with Fred Durst telling people that all around the world knows him, slowing down and fading out with a drum beat... that’s it.
I mean, I was expecting the guitar riff to build up to something exciting instead of this. I know it’s only an intro, but I do know that it’ll go down hill from here on followed by the first single of this album known as...
EAT YOU ALIVE
This song running for four minutes is outright disturbing, the lyrics, the main chorus even the music video featuring Fred Durst kidnapping Thora Birch in a forest, spraying her with gasoline and screaming into a megaphone to her whilst the band plays! The lyrics consists of Durst singing about wanting a girl to look at him and having a strong desire to “sniff her panties?” *VOMITS!* If you ever said those lyrics to a girl that you love in real life, she would immediately break up with you and be warranted a restraining order. The drums and bass sound generic and the guitar work tries to build this up as some sort of a fight song which immediately fails to do so...this was also the first single of this album. THIS WAS THE FIRST SINGLE OF THIS ALBUM...I am not making this up, why on earth would Limp Bizkit release this as the first single of this album, not to mention getting a disturbing music video?
Ugh...
GIMME the Mic
This track is just another generic Nu Metal sounding track, the guitars sound very pungent in aggression but the rest of the instruments deliver nothing. The main hook is heavily sampled from Eric B and Rakin’s Microphone Fiend, later covered by Rage Against The Machine (which I kind of dislike due to their political beliefs) On their posthumous “Renegades” covers album as Limp Bizkit are downright infamous for sampling hooks such as the main chorus of Nine Inch Nails’
“Closer” for their expletive laden song titled “Hot Dog” on “Chocolate Starfish”. Add in Durst’s trademark whiny anger, pathetic song writing and rapping and you have a stinky sounding Nu Metal song that can be made on a “Nu Metal Band Maker” software. Aggressive generic riffs, whiny angry lyrics, fake b-grade angst: profit!
No wonder why that this album and the cover song that I’ll get to later on is one of the factors that killed mainstream Nu Metal in 2003! Next!
UNDERNEATH THE GUN
This song is the first in the number of songs that Fred shows his singing ability and it just sounds absolutely bland and Monotonous. The instruments such as Sam Rivers on the drums and the chords on the guitar have very good delivery and build up in the bridge, but it just sounds absolutely hindered with Fred trying to stay awake singing a song about “suicide and the struggle you have when ending your life becomes an option” with such a dull melody and it goes on for almost six minutes...I mean why did many red Yankees cap wearing Limp Bizkit fans fall for buying this album? The sad sad fact that it sold more copies than any Motörhead albums baffles me extremely. Our god Lemmy must be turning in his grave...
DOWN ANOTHER DAY
Jesus tap dancing Christ, we go from Fred’s whiny anger fuelled tirades to another mellow monotone delivery about our hero singing about missing his summer love (presumably Britney Spears during his somewhat extremely messy affair during the recording of “In the Zone”) and having to deal with the next winter. The lyrics in the main chorus and bridge are repetitive as hell and the instruments are just nearly nonexistent with little or no effort, not to mention that this song is also plagued with very pathetic songwriting...just garbage time indeed...
ALMOST OVER
Yet another extremely repetitive track, explaining Durst’s life from growing up learning how to rap, taking a lot of crap, and being treated as a clown as a little boy to learning how to lose and getting treated as a clown as an older man. Fred rhymes the end of the verses with the words “Little Boy,” and “Older Man” 16 times and the word “Baby” 19 times, totalling up to 51 times!
Another song wrecked by abysmal songwriting from the red capped turd himself, The instruments are getting worse with every track sounding more and more generic with little or no build up, which is sad because Sam Rivers, John Otto and Mike Smith are such good musicians but are being hindered heavily due to Durst’s whiny vocals...the next track should be good, can it?
BUILD A BRIDGE
Ehhh...okay, this song has a bog standard melody and instruments with such a strong build up in the bridge but it’s passable at least, this song features Brian “Head” Welch from KoRn who is a very talented guitarist and perhaps one of the only Nu Metal bands I can tolerate listening to, but his ability is kind of wasted here due to Durst’s sub par ability to sing, not to mention these are one of the songs rumoured to be impulsively directed to Britney Spears. Imagine being one of the guitarists of one of the bands that invented the “Nu Metal” genre only to record a song about being involved with one the most popular pop singers of the time of release?
“LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!” - Chris Croker, 2007
RED LIGHT GREEN LIGHT (Featuring Snoop Dogg)
Another Rap/Hip Hop duet with one of the biggest rap/ hip hop legends, and still it’s repetitive as hell despite the funky beat from DJ Lethal as well as Snoop Dogg calling Fred Durst his “nephew” with the lyric “Snoop dogg is in the place to see, do it with my nephew Freddy d.”
You have no relation with this pile of gutter trash whatsoever!!!
This song is attempting to repeat the success with “N 2 Gether Now” featuring Method Man four years earlier in “Significant Other” but it fails massively with Fred’s lyrics in the first and third verses ending with “Baby” 25 times with the same word repeated 10 times in the main chorus totalling up to 35 times. I would be ashamed to have been Snoop to record a duet with who used to be one of the biggest people in music during Limp Bizkit’s popularity from 1999-2001 not to mention rapping a duet to call him his “nephew!”
The bonus track “Take It Home” which heavily samples the song “Milk and Honey” by Bonnie Dobson is another sub par effort having Fred repeat the lyric “Crying Myself To Sleep” whilst DJ Lethal jams....NEXT!
THE ONLY ONE
Mike Smith is trying to do an acceptable riff or two which I praise for but the effort is just completely wasted, this song is just another whinge-fest with lyrics about using terms of having sex and making out such as “first base” (again presumably directed to Britney) but it just sounds absolutely whiny and generic with Fred singing with heavily instrumentation behind him as he repeatedly screaming the word “NOTHING!” Towards the end and it just ends after that.
Such a putrid mess...
Oh and the lyric “It’s No Big Deal?”
It is a big deal when you’re trying to record a follow up to your previous multi platinum when your most talented member leaves and you have to pick up the pieces with six guitarists, two being yourself and Sam Rivers.
LET ME DOWN
“Let Me Down” has a lot of effort but has simple and dull instrumentation and Durst sounds a lot better than the previous tracks, but however the lyrics are very iffy such as “Heartbreak is a Headache, like a toothquake or an earthquake” “Spontaneous Combustion leaves a taste that’s so disgustin’” and “Rumours are Tumours?” Whilst this song is somewhat passable it’s still coming from a 33 year old at the time whining about life and struggles.
LONELY WORLD
Another song about Fred Durst, whining about his past life such as hating high school with bullies trying to put him down as well as making out with his gothic girlfriend out in the creek whilst his mother was asleep along with gross lyrics such as “Just a little skater boy they could pick on
I learned to forgive 'em
Now I got the balls they can lick on”
Jesus Christ Fred! You were 33 years old at the time of release! Just do us a favour and grow up at least. The main chorus and bridge is still very tedious repeating the main title of the song in a total of 37 times. Un-fucken-believable!
PHENOMENON
After what would’ve been an extremely energetic guitar intro from Mike Smith, The band just slams on the breaks with our hero Fred introducing himself as “the incredible, subliminal, the INFREDIBLE D.”
Here we go again with copy, pasting and editing lyrics of other music groups songs and claiming them your own (the song being Bring the Noize with Anthrax featuring Public Enemy).
The main chorus has a lot of effort but the verses, consisting of Fred Durst’s cruisy rapping,
Not to mention the section after the bridge references “Pollution” from their debut album from 1997 “Three Dollar Bill Y’all” which contains the lyric “Gonna Bring that beat back” which is perhaps the only good album from the band themselves (apart from that Faith cover).
“Phenomenon” is just a ratty mishmash of heavy instrumentation in the main chorus and laidback rapping from Fred in the verses.
CREAMER (RADIO IS DEAD)
Another song with Fred Durst taking an aim against the haters proclaiming “Take a look at me now I’m Mr Worldwide and you’re nothing!” But it contains such sucky lyrics and rhymes such as “Mr Halitosis-of the Breath” and verses and the main chorus such as “Hateraid”, and “rolling dice and getting laid” respectively. Fred also believes that “Radio is Dead. Why’s that? Because many radio stations worldwide won’t play your shoddy music anymore? (Unlike Triple M that continues the play that song in two tracks time) plus what’s with the title “Creamer?” A Frank reference to ejaculation? A quick fact, A massive portion of the song was recycled from Limp Bizkit’s unfinished cover of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s “Relax” which was intended to be in the Ben Stiller movie “Zoolander” hence the title being in the second verse” and Fred Durst’s “blink and you’ll miss it” cameo in the aforementioned movie. Ben Stiller is his “favourite motherfucker” after all.
HEAD FOR THE BARRICADE
An energetic, aggressive fight song against bullying which blatantly references the 1999 Columbine High School shooting in the intro, not paying respect to the victims? How fucking low is that? This song also heavily borrows the refrain “Stick Em, Ha Ha Ha Stick Em!” From The Fat Boys song titled “Human Beatbox” for the main chorus which most of the album and previous albums before it samples lyrics from other songs. Another lyric that catches my ear is “The World can make you sick to your stomach so I put on my headphones and listen to the “Deftones.”
Yeah, I’d rather listen to a huge dose of Deftones after listening to this pile of puke.
I praise the guitar work and build up from Mike Smith which shows his full potential in this song as his talent was heavily wasted in this album, but I still criticise this song for deliberately referencing the shooting tragedy at Columbine High School with no respect to the victims families. You’ve just damaged your reputation with this song in this album Fred, oh wait...it’ll be damaged even further with the next track....
Now we’re getting to the “shitty gritty” of this album...one of the...most disrespectful covers...that still gets played on Triple M seventeen years after it’s original release...and what cemented its place as the cover song that signalled the death of mainstream Nu Metal...
*WARNING: EXPLICIT LANGUAGE USED HEAVILY*
BEHIND BLUE EYES (THE WHO COVER)
*VIOLENTLY VOMITS INTENSELY*
WHERE DO I FUCKING BEGIN WITH THIS PILE OF MONKEY SHIT?
This cover of a classic rock ballad from The Who, one of my favourite rock bands of all time from my favourite albums “Who’s Next” is just indescribably DISRESPECTFUL, PUTRID AND WEAK AS PISS!!! Complete from the non existent sampled guitar work, Fred Durst’s inability to sing with his monotonous delivery of vocals and the dreary sound effects in the main chorus sounding like when you turn on a Sony PlayStation 2.
There is absolutely NO EMOTION in this cover at all! In the original version from The Who, Roger Daltrey sings this song with heavy emotion plus he sounds very angry in the bridge section. And where is the bridge section in this cover exactly? Oh...it’s replaced with a Speak N Spell, A FUCKING SPEAK N SPELL saying “Discover” and spelling “L.I.M.P” part of their terrible band name that’s named after a disgusting sex game in Britain, not to mention, Fred’s statement that he’s not telling lies is another stealthy direction to Britney Spears FOR FUCKS SAKE! I thought that I was hearing a demo version of song containing the section with the Speak N Spell during the instrumental break and Fred whining about “being sorry and not telling lies” would be a placeholder recorded before Mike Smith joined hoping that they would record a much more aggressive, rap heavy version of the bridge from the original but nope! They apparently released this absolute joke of a cover as it is! Was it really such an absolutely bright idea to bastardise such a classic “The Who” song from one of my favourite albums of all time? At least Faith No More knew what they were doing when they recorded their cover of Lionel Richie and The Commodores’ “Easy” on the rerelease of “Angel Dust.” Surely a verse was absent in that cover, but at least it was slightly faithful to the original version. (Still makes me sick that Limp Bizkit opened up for FNM during their American leg of the “Album of the Year” tour in September and October of 1997.) Did you know that song also got an awful music video to promote the 2003 movie Gothika (which this song appeared in) where Fred Durst tongue wrestles Halle Berry in a Psychiatric Ward?
The fact that this was the second single from this neanderthalic mess of an album, charting in at number 4 on the Aria Charts in 2003/04 not to mention being overplayed on mainstream radio stations such as Triple M to prove that Limp Bizkit had a soft side makes me undesirably sad to this very day...
Truely such a horrible cover song in rock, and don’t get me started on that cover of George Michael’s “Faith” that is the same level of absurdity of this song.
The song features another bonus track titled “All That Easy” featuring another monotonous delivery of lyrics with a simple beat from DJ Lethal...it just sounds like a song from a dollar shop Massive Attack...
DROWN
The final track on this album is yet another sad, mellow, monotonous melody from Fred complete with the repetitive chords from his guitar (one of the few songs to feature Fred playing guitar prior to Mike Smith joining the band). There’s nothing to describe about the half asleep sounding lyrics but it’s just absolutely sluggish at best and just another garbage time track to end this massive garbage fire of an album.
FINAL VERDICT ON WHY THIS TAKES THE TITLE OF THE ALBUM OF SUCKAGE
“Results May Vary” is nothing but an album filled with monotonous, lyrically repetitive songs, mostly directed to Britney Spears for being left out of writing for “In the Zone” as well as stated by on and off again guitarist Wes Borland as “Fred Durst’s solo project.” A massive chunk of songs were cut from this album such as “Crack Addict” which was performed live at WWE Wrestlemania 19 in Seattle earlier that year in 2003, “Just Drop Dead,” another bloody song directed to Britney Spears which appeared as a B-Side of “Behind Blue Eyes, “Why”, Lean on Me,” and their double cover of “Home Sweet Home and Bittersweet Symphony” originally performed by Motley Crüe and The Verve respectively, the latter three songs being put on the “Greatest Hitz” compilation two years later. Other songs that were cut from RMV, were titled “Press Your Luck,” “Poison Ivy,” “Cowgirls from Hell,” “Shot,” “Armpit,” “When it Rains,” “Let it Go,” the subtlety titled “Masterbation,” “Lean On Me” and others. However these songs wouldn’t have saved this album from being such a colossal disaster and a huge reliance of being a schadenfreude to various haters of the Nu Metal genre like me!
“Results May Vary” is Limp Bizkit’s equivalent to Metallica’s St Anger which was released the same year three months earlier. St Anger got a massive tonne of negativity when it was originally released but later got a huge amount of love and respect over the years. RMV will never have that type of respect as it simply nuked the careers of Limp Bizkit following its release. Limp Bizkit later released its EP titled “The Unquestionable Truth” with Wes Borland returning two years later and it’s comeback album “Gold Cobra,” with “The Stampede of the Disco Elephants” forever burning in Development Hell but the unsalvageable damage had already been done by then, and that’s why I give it the mantle as
THE ALBUM OF SUCKAGE!
Happy Trails...

We’re Animany, Totally Insany, “Words of Shaky,” Animaniacs! (Those are the Facts!)
Tumblr media
This past weekend, I watched the long awaited, much anticipated reboot of my all time favourite cartoons of the nineties, “Animaniacs” produced by Academy Award winning director Steven Spielberg, Wellesley Wild and created by Tom Ruegger, who also made other Warner Bros animated productions in the nineties such as Tiny Toons Adventures and “Freakazoid!”
When I first heard about Animaniacs was possibly getting a reboot via Jess Harnell at Sydney Supanova back in 2017, I thought that it was going to be one of those impulsive, somewhat immature reboots that have been infamously rampant in the 2010’s (I’m looking at you Teen Titans Go! And Thundercats Roar!), But when I first watched the sneak preview with the Jurassic Park spoof, I was in for a HUGE SURPRISE!
22 years after their last outing, the Warner brothers, Yakko and Wakko (voiced by Rob Paulsen and Jess Harnell respectively) and the Warner sister Dot (voiced by Tress Macneille) return to their fortress of solitude, the Warner Bros Water Tower at WB Studios at Burbank California, only to find that things have changed since the golden year of 1998 with technology changing, going through four presidents and shows that were highly popular back in those days are constantly rebooted such as Gilmore Girls, Full House and Ducktales. So it was about time our beloved Siblings got themselves a reboot of their own in these modern times.
The Animaniacs episodes consist of three segments, two of which consist of the Warner Siblings in confrontation with a situation in the modern world such as finding out who ate Wakko’s fancy doughnuts, dealing with a bunny rabbit infestation in the Warner Movie Lot with an anime styled fight to boot, The Warner’s dealing with “manspreading” at the local cinema and Dot Warner’s pledge for cartoons to vote on the anniversary on the 19th amendment and one containing fan favourites “Pinky and the Brain,” who are two Laboratory mice, The Brain (voiced by Maurice Lamarche) who masterminds a plot for conquering the world whilst his dim witted companion Pinky (Voiced by Rob Paulsen) mucks up his plans every time.
Whilst The Animaniacs reboot contains various references to recent tv shows and movies such as “Stephen King’s IT Chapter One and Two” and poking fun at right wing media such as Fox News, Internet trolls and critics and outgoing US President Donald Trump, it did remove a few characters from the original series such as “Hello Nurse” due to being considered as a bad role model to children particularly young girls in these modern days due to her voluptuous appearance. Despite the reboot showing the zany adventures of The Warner Siblings and Pinky and the Brain, the other characters that made the show famous in the nineties such as Mindy and Buttons, Aunt Slappy and her nephew Skippy, The Goodfeathers, the beautiful Minerva Mink, Mr Skullhead, and Rita and Runt (the former having her voice provided by famous Broadway singer, Bernadette Peters) do not return, although watch episode 5 and you’ll get a surprise!
I was also disappointed that there was no post-credits joke from the Warners to round out the episodes like in the original series. Despite its flaws, it is still a very solid reboot with a bellyful of laughs!
Animaniacs was a cartoon I fondly remember watching in my teen years after high school on 9GO! in the early 2010’s and bringing this show back to appeal modern audiences young and old was what we needed after a diabolical disastrous year that is 2020 with only five and a half weeks of this year to go. I give props to Rob, Jess and Tress for reprising one of my favourite teen-hood characters I loved the best and I cannot wait for season 2.
As Yakko would say, “GOODNIGHT EVERYBODY!” #animaniacs #reboot #wordsofshakespeare

WORDS OF SHAKESPEARE: Modern Edition
Today whilst I was still in Quarantine at The Hill where I work at, I watched the Rocko’s Modern Life special known as Static Cling, It’s first new episode in over 20 years.
Taking place twenty years after the Season 4 finale: Future Schlock when Rocko, Heffer and Filbert (Voiced by Carlos Alazraqui, Tom Kenny and Mr Lawrence respectively) were accidentally launched into space, Our Heroes finally return back to earth in the zany city of O-Town. Only to find out things are a little different, or should i say a LOT different! O-Town has been modernised with new O-Phones, Taco Trucks, 3D Movies, Coffee stores and energy drinks. Rocko settles down at home to watch his favourite cartoon “The Fatheads,” only to find out that it’s been yanked off the air for many years, not even with reruns airing!
With Mr Bighead (Charlie Adler) being out of a job due to Conglomo in extreme bankruptcy and with the economy going down the drain due to a teeny-tiny mistake. Rocko and Mr Bighead convinces his boss Mr Dupette, to revive “The Fatheads,” However, Ralph Bighead (voiced by creator Joe Murray) has been in hiding in seclusion after The Fatheads was cancelled. This is where our heroes quest begins, to revive Rocko’s much beloved cartoon and to save O-Town and the economy in the process.
“Static Cling” features an abundance of modern day pop culture, such as reality shows, new technology, internet culture and food trends such as Drones, Ghost Hunting shows, endless informercials, live streaming, new phones, selfies, organic food and impulse online shopping, which will probably be very outdated years after “Static Cling’s” release.
Static Cling also pokes fun at 90’s and modern day first world problems such as the economy going into a mass recession, Rocko’s only vhs tape of The Fatheads on a classic orange Nickelodeon vhs tape (awww, remember them?) wearing out after many years of being played and shoddily made reboots without the original creators involvement (Chuck and Leon Chameleon’s half-hearted attempt of a Fatheads reboot made in CGI).
Despite the humour and the modernised malarkey, Static Cling’s main theme is accepting and embracing change, no matter how big or small you look at it, kind of like in the situation that we’re in that will end soon.
Creator Joe Murray, did such a tremendous job revisiting one of the much beloved whimsical cartoon characters of Nickelodeon’s Renaissance Years of the nineties writing a love letter to the people who grew up watching Nickelodeon’s programming in that decade even for us Aussies who couldn’t afford Pay/Cable/Satellite TV back in those years (and it’s still a Luxury to this day, even with the much more cheaper current streaming services we have now such in Australia as Netflix, Stan, Disney+ and Foxtel Now).
Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling is one of the new specials from Nickelodeon screening on Netflix that will be vying for a revival of older cartoons that aired on the once mighty children’s channel that was a powerhouse in the nineties and early 2000’s and I absolutely hope to see more specials based on Nick’s properties such as Rugrats and Angry Beavers.
As Heffer would say: “That was a hoot!”

Words of Shakespeare
On the 14th of April 2020, I reviewed Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart one of the hottest new cartoons to premiere on Cartoon Network, created by Parker Simmons, a member of the cartoon production company Titmouse Productions, Famous for making other animated comedies such as Big Mouth on Netflix.
The series begins with an explosive loner named Mao Mao and his dim witted but loveable oaf companion Badgerclops undertaking a mission roaming the country to become a hero and a legend in folklore.
After taking down the villainous Sky Pirates, who are lead by the vicious Orangusnake and his menacing henchmen containing, Ramaraffe, Boss Hostridge and Ratarang, Mao Mao and Badgerclops accidentally collide into the Ruby Pure Heart which renders the little sleepy village of Pure Heart inhabited by the sweety-pies invisible. As a result, Pure Heart Valley is now prone to numerous monster attacks and invasions from the Sky Pirates.
The pompous King Snugglemagne declares Mao Mao a sheriff and along with Badgerclops and the cute, boisterous hero in training Adorabat, they become the protectors of Pure Heart Valley, defending it from various types of evil and wrongdoing.
Mao Mao Heroes of Pure Heart is a colourful animated comedy filled with action and slapstick which I closely compare this to other fantasy comedy series such as the first two seasons of Adventure Time and Saiyuki (Journey to the West) also known as the British gag dub “Monkey, which aired on ABC in the early eighties. The cartoon also has a tremendous amount of slice of life anime elements such as when Mao Mao shouts or laughs, his head gets abnormally larger.
The inhabitants of Pure Heart Valley, the sweety pies have various personalities including the mischievous Pinky the Pint Sized Rhinoceros who snatches things he wants without asking permission and often runs into sticky situations requiring help from Mao Mao, Badgerclops and Adorabat.
Throughout the series, we get to see the backstories of Mao Mao and Badgerclops with the former being a young hero in training wanting to be like his successful sisters to his family including a past relationship with Bao Bao, a former ally who betrayed him on an ill-fated quest, resulting in the loss of his tail and Badgerclops’ backstory where he once was a member of a dangerous criminal gang known as the “Thicket Thieves.”
The main antagonist OranguSnake also has a very fascinating backstory with how he and a Orangutan named Tanner forming an alliance becoming an dangerous entity and starting the malevolent group known as The Sky Pirates, who attempt (and always fail) to steal the Ruby Pure Heart to this very day.
The series also has a number of memorable and interesting one shot characters for example Tanya Keys (voiced by Ming Na-Wen aka Mulan and Chun-Li), a sneaky Tanuki who is a bounty hunter and another former ally of Mao Mao who kidnaps Badgerclops in the episode “Meet Tanya Keys.” I really hope to see her in a future episode as I’d love to see her backstory too.
Parker Simmons the creator of Mao Mao does a tremendous task of voicing Mao Mao, King Snugglemagne and the Sweetypies of Pure Heart Valley as he has a versatile vocal range voicing the characters including Mao Mao whose voice reminds me of a parody of Christopher Nolan Batman and the flamboyant King Snugglemagne whose voice reminded me of a combination of a deeper voiced version of Pops from Regular Show, (a classic Cartoon Network Cartoon from the past decade.) and the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz.
Mao Mao Heroes of Pure Heart is a kind hearted adventure series that has the full potential to be Cartoon Network’s flagship show, (a space that was once filled by the popular Adventure Time and Steven Universe, which ended in 2018 and 2020 respectively) with its memorable characters, open and shut stories with continuity nods and touching backstories.
Mao Mao should be very entertaining for the young and young at heart like me who have been watching Cartoon Network during its renaissance years of last decade. ABSOLUTELY TOPS!

When You miss a friend who’s a support worker
Over the past four days i have been a little bit exhausted and highly saddened since my friend Jane Roberts, a support worker for Mai-Wel Enterprises is on Maternity Leave and will not be able to resume work until the end of November or the middle of January.... This made me saddened as she is like an older sister to me, unlike my other younger sister who’s brain is highly developed, I feel extremely agitated and saddened when planned or unexpected changes are made and that is normal for people who has autism like me. So Far i have obtained two courses for OTEN such as working in the retail industry. Unfortunately with Mai-Wel finding a new support worker, This will make me a bit more sad inside because he/she might not have the same lovely, kind hearted characteristics as Jane. Furthermore, in a positive note. At least that i will get to look at the photos of Jane’s Baby when i see her at Maitland in two weeks for Coffee in the morning before i go swimming... Anyway, that’s all i got to say... This is Kane Shakespeare...Signing Off!
