"Night comes and you are still the same person, reflecting on all the mistakes and dwelling on things that you know hurt you, but cannot let them go. Hoping that tomorrow is another new day, a new beginning, and you will take a step forward, you will change everything... but another Dawn comes and you realize you are still the same person, still dwelling on pain, memories and struggles. It's a comfortable feeling, yet it fills you with suffocating emptiness. You are hoping that tomorrow is another new day, a new beginning..."

Comeback of my love to succulents and experimentation in art 馃挏 It's been a while since I felt so content working on something. After my last Inktober/mythology drawing I didn't do any art for 2 weeks. That's when I realised I'm doing something wrong, and that I need to come back to art and draw something different again. I want to practice more and just have fun painting, while I still need to include it into my very busy student life. I feel guilty for always changing themes and styles, but doing just one thing will never make me happy. This is probably one of the most colourful things I've done in years (besides that other big succulent painting) but I really like it and I think in contrast to cheerful colours it still has a tint of melancholy. The pink cut on the person's chin happened accidentally, but I left it there... it helped me to think deeper about the picture's meaning and my art process :)

~Faun~ The goat man, more commonly affiliated with the Satyrs of Greek mythology or Fauns of Roman, is a bipedal creature with the legs and tail of a goat and the head, arms and torso of a man and is often depicted with goat's horns and pointed ears. Romans believed fauns inspired fear in men traveling in lonely, remote or wild places. They were also capable of guiding humans in need. Fauns and satyrs were originally quite different creatures: whereas fauns are half-man and half-goat, satyrs originally were depicted as stocky, hairy, ugly dwarves with the ears and tails of horses. Satyrs also were more woman-loving than fauns, and fauns were rather foolish where satyrs had more knowledge.

Inktober Day 6: Gashadokuro
The Gashadokuro are Japanese spirits that take the form of giant skeletons and are fifteen times taller than an average person. They're said to be created from the amassed bones of people who died of starvation or in the war left with no proper funeral. These Yokai roam after midnight, grabbing lone travelers and biting off their heads to drink their spraying blood. There is a tell sign as the victim would hear the sound of loud ringing in the ear. The Gashadokuro are said to possess the powers of invisibility and indestructibility; though Shinto charms are said to ward them off. ... My congratulations to everyone who finished Inktober! I'll carry this theme of mythical creatures to November too, because how I said at the beginning I wanted to do at least 10-15 drawings. We'll see how it goes!

Inktober Day 5: Selkie
Selkie is a mythological creature found in Irish, Scottish, Faroese, and Icelandic folklore. They are said to live as seals in the sea but shed their skin to become human on land. The stories frequently revolve around female selkies being coerced into relationships with humans by someone stealing and hiding their sealskin, often not regaining the skin until years later upon which they commonly return to the sea, forsaking their human family.

Inktober Day 4: Otso Bears play an incredibly important role in Finnish mythology, and there were once cults dedicated to worshipping them. Generally, the spirit of the bear was referred to as friend, brother, uncle, or forestcousin. Some sub-traditions considered the bear to be a relative who had fled the community and been transmogrified by the power of the forest. The Otso, or Kings of the Forests, are bear spirits who are treated as highly intelligent and divine beings. If a bear was killed, a ceremony was held to leave its skull in a sacred clearing with sacrificial gifts. ...聽
This drawing is a lot more messier than the other ones as I struggled with drawing the forest. I think it turned out ok though, and I finally learned something about Finnish mythology :)

Inktober Day 3: Jin Chan
Small statues of Jin Chan, the Golden Toad, a legendary animal of the Han people can be seen in many places around China. It鈥檚 a funny-looking creature resembling a frog. It has only three legs and a flat broad body often covered in various colors that symbolize the stars. It sits on a pile of coins and stares with red eyes at you with a coin in its mouth. This mythical creature is said to appear during the full moon, near houses or businesses that will soon receive good news (most of the time, the nature of this good news is understood to be wealth-related). ... Another creature done although I'm very late... Guys I hope you have better luck than me with Inktober this year! Although I have so much fun making these, it's hard to keep up right now. Not gonna give up yet though! :)

Inktober Day 2: Alkonost
Alkonost is, according to Russian mythos and folklore, a woman-headed bird. It makes amazingly beautiful sounds, and those who hear these sounds forget everything they know and want nothing more ever again. She lives in the underworld with her counterpart Sirin. The alkonost lays her eggs on a beach and then rolls them into the sea. When the alkonost's eggs hatch, a thunderstorm sets in and the sea becomes so rough that it becomes impossible to traverse.聽
...
I want to dig into more of the slavic myths, and also the folk clothes and accesories are so beautiful, a joy to draw 馃槏聽

Inktober Day 1: Kelpie
The kelpie is a Scottish creature often associated with the realm of faerie. It also falls into the classification of water horse, although this one is decidedly malevolent. It most commonly appears as a beautiful horse near or in running water, and can be identified by the mane that seems to be constantly dripping wet. Females will sometimes appear as a beautiful woman dressed in green, bent on luring lustful men to their watery doom. ... Yes I'm back with my first Inktober drawing! Although this month will be busy I decided to participate in this inking challenge after all. However now I won't go by prompts from other people's lists but I simply chose a theme of mythological creatures that I'll be picking on my own. I don't know how many drawings I'll be able to complete, but I'm aiming for at least 10-15 pictures. Wish me luck and I'm also having my fingers crossed for everyone who's doing any challenge this challenging month! 馃槅
