Dialect in Korean is “Satoori” -> 사투리
Seoul dialect is considered the standard dialect for both North and South Korea. For South Korea the Modern variation of the Seoul dialect is the standard. In North Korea the Munhwaŏ dialect of Seoul is the standard.
There are 9 regional dialects: Seoul, Gyeongsang, Jeolla, Chungcheong, Gangwon, Hwanghae, Pyongan, Hamgyong, and Jeju.
Gyeongsang dialect is very tonal and depending on where you are, the dialect sounds different. Even between Busan and Daegu there is a difference and the cities are only 100 kilometers away.
Jeolla dialect is best known for it’s different verb endings. Taking common endings and changing them. As well as only pronouncing the second vowel in a diphthong.
Chungcheong dialect is a combination of Seoul and Jeolla. The southern part of Chungcheong is closer to Jeolla and northern is closer to Seoul.  Known for slow enunciation and unique jargon.
Gangwon dialect is Yeongseo and Yeongdong dialects. Both are spoken in the region. Yeongseo spoken on the east side while Yeongdong is spoken on the west side of the Taebaek mountains.
Hwanghae dialect is typically included with the central dialects, however does not fit in comfortably.
Pyongan dialect is thought to be North Korea’s standard, however it is not. Many vowel sounds are dropped out and replaced with the 8 that are used. As well as certain consonants  being used more than others.
Hamgyong dialect is the most divergent dialect. Containing intonation, vocabulary, and grammatical differences that distinguish it from the standard Korean of the north or south. A specific difference is in kinship. Words such as father, mother, etc. are different from the standards.
Jeju dialect is so different, it is considered it’s own language. However, it has become a critically endangered language.
If you watch High Kick 3 episode 73 (yes the whole thing) a great example of the Gyeongsang and Seoul satoori difference are shown. Seung Yoon speaks with a heavy Busan dialect and is forced to start speaking with the Seoul dialect. “Reply 1997” is also a great drama that takes place in Busan.
"Reply 1994" has the most dialects used. In this short clip the 5 main South Korean mainland dialects are used.
For more information, you can do a google search or go to different wiki pages. Trust me, they are chock full of information.

Christmas part 6
Tumblr media
At this point, the only thing on the floor table was plate of pajeon and a large bowl of makgeoli. Silla took the ladle and poured some more of the alcohol into her little bowl. "아이고...다들 잔다..." Sighing she slid the door to the outdoor center open. The snow fell softly. Staying under the roof, she looked back inside. Seoul left about an hour ago. "Where could he have gone..." She already knew the answer. It wasn't hard.
"혼자이서?" It was incredibly late. Goguryeo was glad the only light was from the moon and a small fire lamp.
"어..." Silla sighed and took a sip. As her twin approached her, she handed him the little bowl of makgeoli. "Seoul left a while ago and the rest are sleeping."
Tumblr media
Goguryeo tilted his head back and took in the rest of the makgeoli. Nodding at what Silla said.
"How about you? 애들는?" An honest question. Silla could see bits of gauze from his hands.
"Tch... Do I get a reward for being the worst oppa?"
Silla's expression was a mixture of feelings. "아니... You're doing your best..."
A heavy sigh left Goguryeo's mouth. "Forget it. Let's talk about something else." Annoyance would take over his mind if he didn't change the subject.
It wasn't hard to change the subject. A few bowls of makgeoli and a plat of pajeon later the two laughed at older stories.

~
Pajeon and makgeoli are paired together and traditionally eaten together.
아이고...다들 잔다... - Aigoo...Everyone's sleeping.
혼자이서 - You're alone
어- In this context it means "yeah"
애들는- In this context, "How are your girls?"
아니- No

"One two three four and one and two and three and four." Even with Sinuiju’s counting Rason missed a beat. The club was thrown out of her range and landed at a few feet away. "Unnie, you’re thinking too much."

Christmas part 3
Tumblr media
"Who's going to help noona?" It didn't take much to get the boys moving. "I'm making ddoek!"
"Oh! Noona! I'll help!" Daegu bolted up. Anything requiring physical activity got him motivated.
"Noona! Me too!" Ulsan followed. The two always showed off. Who was the strongest male in the household? A constant contest.
Silla looked over to the older males, especially Seoul. "Who else wants to help? Seoul, you always helped me when you were younger."
"Ah, 싫어." He layed down on the floor and took out his phone. "Let the younger ones do it."
"Hmph!" She scowled at Seoul and made a fist. Pretending to hit him. "Aigoo..." Leaving with the two energetic males.
At the moment, his phone was more interesting. Punching in a few words and hitting send.
"Tch, noona's little boy doesn't want to help out?" Incheon moved closer to his hyung and tried to sneak a peak at who he was texting. "How could he let her down?"
Seoul pushed Incheon away. "너나잘해. I don't see you offering a hand. Plus, I can't cook even if my life depended on it."
"That's because you're not from Jeolla-do." Gwangju smirked at the older male. "Too bad our family's cooking abilities weren't passed down to you."
"Ha! Our little Gwangju is right~ Too bad the ability to talk to girls wasn't passed down to you. You couldn;t face a girl without turning into a beat." Seoul returned the smirk. Everyone laughed and lightly pushed Gwangju. Who was now red from embarrassment and a little bit of anger.
Silla opened the porch door and called into the living room. "Who else is going to help noona?" At first no one moved. "Fine. Daegu and Ulsan get all the 떡, and 식혜, and 수정과, and..."
That's all she had to say. The boys all got up. "Noona! We'll help too!"
~
싫어- means "hate" but in this context he is saying "I don't want to."
너나잘해- "You do better" is a rough translation.
떡- Korean rice cake, there are many different variations.
식혜-  Traditional sweet Korean rice beverage.
수정과- A Korean traditional fruit punch

What is Dokdo?
Dokdo (Korean)/Takeshima (Japanese) is a small island in the East Sea. It is literally a small rock and nobody can live on it. The seas around it are rough and make it difficult for boats to get there at times. It is also a fishing ground.
What dispute? I have never heard of it.
Korea and Japan have FIERCE battles over whether Dokdo is theirs. Korea says it’s theirs and Japan fights back.
Currently the island is administered to South Korea.
Why does this matter? It’s just a rock!
