you call comics 'picture books' because you don't respect the medium in general and think they're just for kids. i call comics 'picture books' because the majority of the modern writing feels like it was designed in a lab to either piss me off or bore me to death meanwhile the artists are still putting their whole pussy into what they do. we are not the same

Reading comics is constantly like "Here is one of the most fascinating concepts you've ever seen in a piece of media. No we will not elaborate on it and you will never see it reach its full potential. Here is an interesting, new character. Oh now they're dead/rewritten to be less interesting/trapped in a different version of earth to be only mentioned off hand and never seen again. Here is your favorite legacy character: they're currently being written by a misogynist." And then once in a blue moon there's a comic that blows your tits clean off it's executed so well. But it's a limited run.

there’s a pattern of behaviour in emergency services wrt police — meaning if emts or firefighters report police misdemeanours or unlawful actions against civilians then police might retaliate by not answering emergency calls from said teams that reported them. this is an established thing, at least among people i know.
reworking nightwing 96’s cop plotline (beloathed) to be dick grayson taking on the role as an emt to investigate a number of suspiciously timed murders and the police who are trying to cover up is a lot more interesting to me than just…. him being a cop. he’s still doing tangible good in bludhaven. he’s able to directly witness how the system has failed the people it’s supposed to protect. it adds an actual, proper investigative element as dick is forced to tactically gather evidence and build alliances. his ability to lead and think rationally during a crisis is a lot more valuable when performing life saving medical care vs kicking down a door with an assault rifle. let him drive an ambulance!!!!

Far worse, in my opinion, than the famous “he wouldn’t fucking say that” is “he WOULD fucking say that, as part of his facade, but you seem to think he would mean it genuinely”

Thinking about how Donna caused at least two major turning points in Cassie’s character by
1) Giving her the Wonder Girl uniform
Makes Cassie, who was living the dream as Wonder Woman’s sidekick, take a step back and realize oh shit, this isn’t a game
Still reckless and excitable, but more prone to self reflection and insecurity
Realizes she’s part of legacy bigger than herself and her wants
2) Dying
Grief drives Cassie to be more serious and moody
Really hammered in the vulnerability of heroes
Makes her doubt her ability to be a hero and leader, and leaves her open to Ares’ manipulation

I love how beautifully impossible-to-label Donna and Dick's relationship is
I also love how it confuses everyone who tries to force a label onto them. It's so special and complicated and unique!
Words can't describe how much these two mean to each other (or what exactly they mean to each other either).
This is mostly so I have all these panels in one place.
