To Mao Mao - from what I’ve heard, your relationship with your dad ... isn’t the greatest. But what about your sisters? Do you get along with them?
I don’t think Mao Mao will really ever fully admit that his family is neglectful or cold-shouldered. Throughout the series, he always holds all of his family in high regard, especially in the “Geraldine sword story”, The first episode, “I love you Mao Mao”, and in the final moments of the episode, “Not impressed”.
He tries to gain their respect, and that is crucial! For someone to want respect from someone else, there is usually a idolization towards that someone. It’s a perception that they can do no wrong and that a person believes in what their idol does, something that straightly correlates with the concept of heroes in this series. Further straightened with the idealization of parents, that they too can do no wrong.
However there are signs of obvious neglect in the episodes, with Shin Mao un-acknowledging Mao Mao’s stunts, forgetting his son’s name and presence, giving a child a dangerous weapon, and just the fact that Mao Mao thinks he should earn his father’s love and respect.
His sisters, although very quiet up to this point, seem to have no qualms with letting their brother put himself in danger and don’t seem to acknowledge him either in the few scenes they are in. Shin mao favors his daughters more as shown by the weapons ceremony, but Mao Mao seems to remain oblivious.
After all, when you have rose-tinted glasses on, all the red-flags, just look like flags.

"Oh finally!" Snugglemagne huffed as he rushed toward the sherriff. "You take quite a long time arriving once you're called. I could have been in serious danger!"
"Anyhow," the king spoke as he led Mao towards his chambers. "Which of these capes go better with mine eyes? This cerulean beauty or this velvety rose pink?" Snugglemagne held the two capes up side by side and proceeded to bring one up into the air and down within the next second. This was much more imperative than what that silly sherriff was doing. After all, this was life or death!
“ you requested me, your highness ? ” the cat speaks through clenched teeth, jaw twitching in quiet annoyance.

Yes. Yes they were. Shakespeare had written plenty of plays about nobles. So, maybe they weren't musicals, but why couldn't a tragic play be made into a musical?
"Oh, I must have the townspeople write a musical about moi!~"
