About Donna Strother Deekens - AKA âSnow Queenâ
Donna Strother Deekens is owner and party director of a traveling tea party business, Teapots, Treats & Traditions. A graduate of Westhampton College of the University of Richmond, she has performed professionally as an actress, soloist, entertainer and public speaker. Â She enjoyed playing the role of a âSnow Queenâ for many years with âThe Real Santaâ at the Miller & Rhoads downtown Richmond, Virginia department store from 1971 â 1989, and also at Thalhimers, from 1990 â 1991.
In addition to her entertainment background, she has held positions in public relations, marketing and fundraising for governmental, corporate and nonprofit organizations. She is the author of four books, Christmas at Miller & Rhoads: Memoirs of a Snow Queen; Santaland: A Miller & Rhoads Christmas (Childrenâs Book); Virginiaâs Legendary Santa Trains (co-authored with Doug Riddell); and The Real Santa of Miller & Rhoads: The Extraordinary Life of Bill Strother. She is married to Bill Deekens and they have two grown sons, Brent and Greg, as well as their devoted dog, âMissy.â Â

Just imagine...115,000 people, over 3000 watermelons and you! With 80 musicians, over 100 exhibitors, one of the largest kids areas of any festival on the east coast and all of the great Carytown style, the Carytown Watermelon Festival presented by Publix has become the largest one day festival in the state of Virginia!Â
The festival will be just as lively this summer, with expectations of even more attendees than last year. there are nearly 50 performances scheduled and more than one hundred street vendors planning to transform Cary Street into the granddaddy of street festivals. Merchants are already decorating their windows with watermelon motifs, while the real watermelons are ripe for the picking and will soon be given a royal welcome in Carytown.
