Igor leaned reading the letter against a wall nearby his post at the elevator. He let out a deep sigh, he could tell that when she arrived in the morning she would have many questions about his letter -
"How have you been? why were you so curious as to where I was? does this mean we're friends? how did you get my address?"
although, he could suppose that he brought all that on himself.
He folded her letter, and tucked it gently into his pocket. There was no use writing a response if she would so soon return the hotel and unleash her curiosity onto him in person, and besides, he had assumed the reason for her sudden disappearance from the hotels ecosystem before he had even sent his letter - so there was no point in writing to her feigning a shock he did not feel.
However...The fact that he had known the answer before he even began writing raised a question of his own, why did he write to her?
Was he uncomfortable with the silence brought by her absence? perhaps did he miss her incessant yapping into his ear during working hours? Was he bored and simply had nothing better to do?
Igor may have contemplated his reasoning further if M. Gustave had not approached him,
"Four, Igor." He instructed, entering the elevator. Igor followed quickly at his heels, and did not think about it any further.
Dear Jemma,
I am unsure how to start this, and I must say it feels a bit awkward - considering our limited interactions. But as an employee of the grand budapest, I feel obligated to inquire your whereabouts.
I have not seen you here for quite some time, and as a valued visitor I felt it my duty to mention your absence from the hotel.
Do not feel inclined to respond. I just can’t help but wonder where you have been.
I hope this letter finds you well. May your routinely visits resume (or not.)
Signed,
Igor
Sitting in her quiet office, immersed in eternal – as she often justifies it – "creative" chaos, Jemma re-reads every line and every word over and over again, tapping her foot on the lacquered floor, an uncontrollable nervous tic that she barely noticed. Most recently, she received a reply from her dear friend Eloise, her letter stated some advice and support, which, quite likely, would be useful to her now.
Finally, putting the letter aside, she pulled out the cabinet of an old chest of drawers made of an expensive kind of wood and pulled out one of the letter sheets from it.
The answer started as follows:
Darling Dea Highly respected
I was VERY surprised to receive a message from you!! SurprisEd IN A good way Of cOurse!! ◕••..
Nerves got the better of her writing abilities: her quite even handwriting now resembled those letters that she had to write on the go, where the handwriting on them looked just awful; a greasy ink blob at the end of the sentence put a bold cross on the current letter definitively. She has to start writing a new one.
Igor,
I did not expect to receive at least a single message from you, I will not lie!! And I'm also quite surprised that you know my personal mail address (I can only wonder how you found out about it)!!
I can assume that the reason for my surprise may be the fact that we hardly talked due to the fact that you are quite busy during the day, as well as myself!! But I'm pretty happy to answer you if you're very curious!!
Recently, my work has carried me quite a bit into its difficult course. My difficult occupation implies that I have to travel quite long distances in order to deliver letters and parcels to people!! I barely have time to rest!!
Just recently, I received an anonymous (I'm not divulging the names) package again, which should be delivered to your hotel by me soon!!
Tomorrow, a couple of my old friends and I are going to catch the evening train, which is due to arrive at 8:25 on a magnificent morning!! I hope this answer is quite useful and dispels your curiosity!!
Sending much love With all my respect,
Jemma.
Now that the current letter has been completed and will soon be sent to the right address, Jemma can deliver the little box given to her to a new person whom she has recently wanted to get to know better. She remembered that his name began with the letter J.

Note
To Igor,
I have been told you know many things about Henckels from your elevator chats. I would be willing to pay a large sum of money based on your needs. If you’d like to take this offer, write me back on any other details you may want to know.
From, fwbqsbnc
To my anonymous messenger,
I must say this is quite an intriguing offer to a man such as myself - my name is not often recognised and proposals like this are rare to be sent my way. I am eager to discuss the subject of payment as you see fit - however I must preface that I'm unsure how much my information is worth. Henckels has not come to the grand budapest in quite some time, and my chats with him have been few and far between - mere fleeting small talk to fill an awkward silence.
despite these facts, I am willing to discuss with some of my colleagues on this topic upon your request.
I hope to hear back from you soon, as you have truly peaked my interest.
Signed, Igor.
