Last day for @starbucks Cups of Kindness. This is actually my first time trying the “pink drink” and “violet drink” and they were both delicious (and pretty!) 💜💗

Wow. I’m really proud of this. A delicious and healthy summer meal. I used an amazing recipe for pineapple coconut quinoa and whipped up some baked tofu (1 block of firm tofu, cut into slices and soaked in 2 T soy sauce, 1 T honey, 1 t rice vinegar, and 1 t sesame oil. Baked at 425 for 10 min on each side). 😊 . . . Pineapple Coconut Quinoa http://www.theharvestkitchen.com/pineapple-coconut-quinoa/

By analogy with racism and sexism, the term “speciesism” is a prejudice or attitude of bias in favor of the interests of members of one’s own species and against those of members of other species.
If a being suffers there can be no moral justification for refusing to take that suffering into consideration. No matter what the nature of the being, the principle of equality requires that one’s suffering can be counted equally with the like suffering of any other being.
Racists violate the principle of equality by giving greater weight to the interests of members of their own race when there is a clash between their interests and the interests of those of another race. Sexists violate the principle of equality by favoring the interests of their own sex. Similarly, speciesists allow  the interests of their own species to override the greater interests of members of other species. In each case, the pattern is identical.

I do think we can a start somewhere and do our part (being conscious of what you buy, etc.) but corporations with no regulations are 100% the main culprit.
there’s a big difference between “food waste” as in “farmers destroy tons of food to avoid exceeding quotas” or “supermarkets throw away this much edible food because it doesn’t sell”
and “food waste” as in “it is not actually within the capacity of humans to perfectly predict and track household food consumption, so a certain amount of food per household inevitably goes bad and has to be thrown out every year”

Only male ducks are used in the foie gras industry because they gain weight faster than females. The duckling in the photo is one of 40 million unwanted females thrown alive into an industrial grinder every year.
Foie gras is made by force-feeding male ducks large quantities of food several times a day to fatten their livers, often whilst being kept in tiny cages. The birds are intentionally given liver disease.
After roughly two weeks of this process, the ducks are sent to the abattoir. At slaughter they are typically hung upside down, have their throats cut and are left to bleed to death. The livers are then used to make the rich pate, a popular delicacy in France, and in luxury restaurants around the world.
The insertion and removal of the feeding tube scratches the throat and esophagus of the ducks, causing irritations and wounds, and in some cases leading to potentially fatal infections. Around a million birds die in the force-feeding process every year.
“This is like cramming 20 kg of pasta into a human being, twice a day for two weeks,” said Brigitte Bardot, actress and animal rights campaigner. “Imagine the food being forced down a tube into your stomach while you are in a cage in which you cannot move.”

And for lunch- lightly fried green tomatoes from the farmers market on a multigrain bagel with a slice of vegan mozzarella. I love the Follow Your Heart vegan cheeses because they're super tasty and melt well. 😊
